The state tree of Kentucky, also known as the tulip poplar or yellow poplar, however, is actually more closely related to the magnolia family than the poplar family. It is easily identified by its large, simple tulip shaped leaves held alternately on long leaf stems. The leaves, which feature three lobes, including the top lobe which is widely notched in the middle, turn from glossy green to a golden yellow in the fall.

The bark on young trees is smooth and gray with streaks of white between the ridges, while the bark of older trees is gray-brown and features deep, long running ridges. The trunk is very straight and column-like as it grows toward the sunlight and the tree self-prunes lower branches.

In the spring, the tulip tree produces colorful green and yellow, tulip like flowers with an orange band at the base of each petal, which bloom in May or June, but are often found high up on the tree.

The cone-shaped fruit is a collection of winged seeds that resembles a small, dry pineapple, approximately two-inches in length, which sits upright on the branches.

Tulip trees, which grow 70 to 90 feet tall, are often among the tallest trees in Indiana woodland areas as they are shade intolerant and prefer to grow toward the light. They can often be found in woodlands as large as three to four feet in width on the trunk. Tulip trees prefer acidic, moist, well-drained soil, but can tolerate alkaline soil.

The natural range of the tulip tree is the eastern United States. Its western reach extends from spots in central Louisiana across the eastern edge of Missouri and Illinois up through Indiana and the southern part of Michigan, and reaches eastward across the gulf states and the panhandle of Florida. It can be found throughout much of the Atlantic coast, reaching northward to Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut.

The Morton Arboretum warns that tulip trees are highly susceptible to ice damage and are marginally hard with weak wood and branch structure.

    2. Good morning, Pat! Nipply outside here this morning – only 56! A/C is off for the season and I’ve switched it to heat. We may have a few hot days here and there but I can deal with that with fans. Gage won’t be moving things until this afternoon since the guy who is helping him has to work this morning. So I’ll be heading out around 2:30 or so.

              2. We’ll see – she is besties with my granddaughter, Ashley, who is NOT fond of me – she sided with Seth. And they are both badly brainwashed. Climate Change don’tcha know??!!?? And Ashley was especially angry at me and wouldn’t answer my e-mails when her Dad was in the hospital, I pushed them NOT to give him Remdesivir – well, they cut me off and refused to listen (Ashley and her mom) and they did, indeed, give it to him and they killed him. So……

    Today, Elpidio Reyna was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for hurling rocks at a federal vehicle during last year’s anti-immigration enforcement riot in Paramount, shattering a window and injuring an officer.

    The NY Post reports that Ayanle Mohamed Siad, son of dictator Siad Barre and described by a historian as his father’s “right-hand man,” has been living in Columbus, Ohio.

    Barre’s regime is accused of atrocities that left as many as 200,000 people dead. The family was also linked to an Ohio home-health company that received more than $1.8 million in Medicare funding; the Post notes the company appeared legitimate and filed proper paperwork. One survivor called for accountability:

    Just The News: “The contractor that recently renovated the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial said in court documents that its faulty effort – nor vandalism – caused the peeling and leaking of the pool’s new liner, The New York Times reported Friday.

    The contractor, Atlantic Industrial Coatings, told the Trump administration that errors in its own work and flaws in the repair plan resulted in the pool’s new blue liner peeling and breaking loose, according to court documents reviewed by the news outlet.

    The Trump administration blamed vandals for the issues and charged multiple people with vandalism of the pool, on the National Mall, in Washington, D.C., before moving to dismiss the cases in July.

    The contractor said there were two main issues with the job. The first was that workers in some areas did not spray enough of the primer that made the layers of the liner stick together. The second, bigger issue, was that the repair plan outlined in the contract called for the layers of liner to include two chemicals that ended up being incompatible.

    The top layer reached a temperature hotter than what the compound underneath could withstand, which caused the bottom layer to blister and come loose, the documents read.

    Atlantic Industrial Coatings said it will still repair the pool, which is under warranty and the company is under a $14 million contract with the Trump administration, despite its mistakes.”

  10. Just The News: “The Justice Department announced Friday that an Afghan woman whose sons were connected to the 2024 Election Day terror plot has been deported from the United States through the never-before-used Alien Terrorist Removal Court.

    Nazira Haji Zada, 47 years old and living in Fort Worth, Texas, was deported last month through the unusual court, and she agreed to accept the “terrorist” label that bars her from ever returning to the United States, the department said.

    The Justice Department accused Zada of working to “indoctrinate her children with ISIS ideology and have them pledge loyalty to ISIS,” which resulted in her son-in-law and son helping plot an election day terror attack in 2024 in Oklahoma.

    “This landmark case, resulting in the prompt removal of this alien terrorist to her country of origin, is a win for national security and the rule of law,” Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement. 

    “Those who support and condone terrorism should not be living in the United States, and this first-ever case before the ATRC shows how the Department will use every tool at its disposal to protect our country,” he also said.

    The case is unusual because Zada has not been accused of directly helping to orchestrate the attack, and the case is the first to appear in front of the ATRC, which was created in 1996. The department typically seeks to imprison those accused of plotting terror attacks on the country.

    Zada’s son is Abdullah Haji Zada, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the plot, Her son-in-law, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, pleaded guilty in federal court to two charges related to the plot in support of the Islamic State.

    Tawhedi pleaded guilty last year to conspiring and attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS and receiving, attempting to receive, and conspiring to receive firearms and ammunition in furtherance of a federal crime of terrorism.”

    The University of Delaware wants its professional and administrative staff back in campus offices “at least four days a week,” but is facing “backlash” for the decision formally announced at the beginning of the month.

    The requirement doesn’t even take effect until the end of next June.

    According to the Spotlight Delaware, affected UD employees claim the move “was made without their involvement and would significantly impact them professionally, personally and financially.”

    A petition started early last month calling for “transparency, collaboration, and evidence-based workplace decisions” regarding UD’s decision has the support of 529 people, which includes 383 “staff” and 54 faculty. Over half are anonymous.

    Concerns and complaints in the petition include “unpaid commute time,” the impact of inflation, and that employees have “built long-term childcare, elder care, school logistics, and family routines” around the current work-from-home model.

    The Spotlight report notes an employee even invoked climate change: “All of that adds up to more carbon emissions, more strain on local infrastructure, and less time that thousands of people can spend with their actual communities.”

    The petition concludes by saying “The University of Delaware asks its employees to make decisions grounded in evidence, thoughtful analysis, and a commitment to continuous improvement. We respectfully ask that the University apply those same principles to decisions affecting its own workforce.

    “We deserve a transparent, evidence-based, and equitable process, and we ask for the opportunity to be heard before decisions that materially affect our work, our finances, our health, and our well-being become permanent.”

      One employee estimated that the combination of daily travel, increased childcare costs and the required university parking pass would cost an additional $15,000 to $20,000 per year. They said if the university moves forward with the policy, they would be forced to leave their job. 

      “If it’s four days a week, I just can’t afford it,” they said. “I’m not moving. I love my home, my husband has his job, my kids are established at their schools. I’m not going to uproot my family for a job. Especially if they are just randomly changing policies out of thin air.” …

      Many who spoke with Spotlight Delaware noted that the staff impacted by the policy change largely do not have student-facing roles. They also asserted that working from home has improved their productivity, and that the school is trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. 

    The UD situation is similar to that at Texas A&M Victoria where several faculty have quit due to the requirement of being on campus for eight hours per day, five days per week, Inside Higher Ed reports.

    A state law passed last year “restricts telework for public higher education faculty members,” but allegedly doesn’t “specifically require” what Texas A&M Victoria is mandating.

    State American Association of University Professors President Teresa Klein said the requirement has led to “chaos” with “multiple classes” being canceled and “some departments [being] nearly empty.”

    Klein also said “multiple outstanding faculty” have resigned as they could “not possibly or reasonably comply with this spur-of-the-moment edict.”

  12. Just The News: “The CIA on Friday publicly released a tranche of never-before-seen memos from the agency to former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush regarding potential terror plots by the terrorist group al-Qaeda prior to the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

    Clinton was president at the time of the attack. He was preceded by Clinton. 

    The release comes on the 25th anniversary of the attacks, in which terrorists flew two planes into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into the Pentagon and a fourth plane that was hijacked was headed to an unknown destination before passengers crashed it in Pennsylvania.

    “25 years ago, the 9/11 attacks struck a blow to our Nation, but they did not break us,” CIA Director John Ratcliffe said in a statement. “Generations of CIA officers have since dedicated their careers to securing justice for our fallen Americans and ensuring al-Qaeda would never again harm our country.

    “In the years that followed, numerous CIA officers made the ultimate sacrifice in the Global War on Terror,” he continued. “We honor their memory and service through our commitment to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat those who wish to cause us harm.”

    The new release includes the agency’s largest tranche of documents on the 9/11 terror attacks and intelligence analyses that were sent directly to the president and senior policymakers are among the agency’s most closely guarded documents.”

    On September 9, 2,977 drones rose above New York Harbor and recreated the Twin Towers in the night sky.

    One light for every person killed on September 11, 2001.

    The display was positioned over the harbor rather than directly above the original World Trade Center site because flying nearly 3,000 drones over densely populated Manhattan would create an obvious safety problem.

    The result was hauntingly beautiful.

    A plume of smoke extends from lower Manhattan and out across the region, visible hundreds of kilometers above Earth. Twenty-five years later, somehow there are still photographs and videos from that day that many of us have never seen.

He slaughtered a couple and their 5 year old little girl for nothing but $$$$!!!!! He appealed, which was of course denied, but also petitioned SCOTUS to release him. All those expensive hours and hours and hours totally wasted on top of it all, not to mention keeping the POS alive feeding him!!!! 😠😠😠👿😡👿

  23. i was just out in the garden with hubby…we found a tomato plant growing from last year and wanted to stake it up. well there are FIVE plants growing from fallen (cherry) tomatoes! one plant has ten cherry tomatoes on it and the other 4 have flowers galore…lol

    oh the smell of the tomato plant is all over my hands and smells sooo good!

(Family Social) in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.  She also owned a home health care fiscal intermediary called Responsible Care Staffing Inc. and an entity she used to receive and disguise fraud proceeds called Tanwee Services Inc.

    From approximately October 2017 through July 2024, in exchange for kickbacks and bribes, a web of marketers referred Medicaid recipients to Khan’s social adult daycare centers.  As depicted in the pictures below, Khan and the marketers paid kickbacks and bribes to the Medicaid recipients to induce them to sign up for services that Khan then billed to Medicaid.  These services were never actually provided as represented to Medicaid. 

    Between 2017 and 2024, Happy Family and Family Social fraudulently billed Medicaid approximately $64 million.  Medicaid paid approximately $56 million based on these false and fraudulent claims.  Khan and her co-conspirators used multiple business entities to launder the fraud proceeds and generate the cash used to pay kickbacks and bribes to the marketers and the Medicaid recipients.

    A Customs and Border Protection supervisor on the Maine-Canada line spent midnight shifts popping open Homeland Security computers, ripping out the good processors, stuffing in junk chips, and plugging the wrecks back into the government network. Hidden cameras caught him doing it. Then he traded the stolen Intel parts for store credit.

    That is not a parable. That is the federal case against Terry “Jiajia” Liu, 39, of Calais, Maine.

    Liu described himself as a native of Guangzhou, China. He supervised the Calais Port of Entry and had duties at the Ferry Point and Milltown crossings. CBP officers are required to be U.S. citizens. A court filing says he is not a foreign national. Those two facts can sit in the same paragraph and still leave the country with a hole in the wall. Who hired him? Who cleared him for after-hours access to the machines that process the northern border?
    Forty-Six Machines, Cheap Parts, Same Network

    The Maine Wire’s Steve Robinson obtained the affidavit from FBI Special Agent Christopher J. White. CBP IT staff first noticed unauthorized work in late 2025. The inventory grew to 46 computers. Thirty-eight sat in Calais. Six were at Ferry Point. Two were at Milltown.

    Thirty-nine had their CPUs swapped. Six had RAM changed. Eight had hard drives replaced. Some boxes took more than one hit.

    The originals carried 14th-generation Intel Core i7 processors, including the i7-14700 parts that PCMag says Newegg’s trade-in program would buy for about $200 apiece. What went back in were older, weaker chips, including Pentium-class processors that did not meet CBP specs. Less memory. Less storage. Then the machines went back on the agency network.

    Read that last sentence again. They did not leave the junk on a cart. They logged it into Homeland Security.

    The government says it would cost more than $20,000 just to put the right parts back and more than $105,000 to replace the 46 computers before anyone even configures them for official use.

    He Was Told to Stop. He Did Not Stop.

    Liu’s job included limited IT duties. He was not authorized to tear the boxes apart. Port Director Theodore Cummings put it in writing on March 18, 2025, after speaking with him.

      Please do not move any computers or computer parts.

    Cummings added that contractor gear and CBP computers were not Liu’s playground. Stay in your lane. File a ticket.

      I do appreciate the intent but we should stay in our lane and report deficiencies through the work ticket process.

    Liu allegedly kept going. Investigators installed cameras. On a January overnight shift they recorded him carrying computers into a training room, popping the side panels, pulling processors, scraping thermal paste, seating replacements, and hooking the machines back to monitors, keyboards, and network cables. At one point he appeared to log in with his government ID. Another camera later caught him pulling a memory module and dropping it in his desk drawer.

    Midnight coverage at Calais often left one supervisor on the passenger side while traffic ran through cargo. Plenty of quiet. Plenty of time.

EXCERPT: “A Biden-appointed federal judge in San Jose has paused construction of a planned ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations facility outside Gilroy, California, the self-described “garlic capital of the world,” after the State of California and Santa Clara County argued the Trump administration skipped a full environmental review on land that once housed agricultural research labs.

    U.S. District Judge Eumi K. Lee, nominated by Joe Biden and confirmed 50-49 in 2024, granted a preliminary injunction Friday.

    Construction, demolition, and development at the 24.5-acre Holsclaw Road property stay frozen except for immediate safety work. The parties have until September 30 to try to agree on the exact scope of the order.

    The order is the latest chapter in California’s campaign to use environmental statutes, zoning, and “intergovernmental cooperation” rules to slow interior immigration enforcement. Attorney General Rob Bonta and Santa Clara County Counsel Tony LoPresti sued in June.

    They claimed the General Services Administration and ICE treated a lease-and-rebuild project as a routine office relocation and rubber-stamped it with a one-page “categorical exclusion” form.

    “President Trump’s mass detention and deportation campaign has led to cruel, inhumane, and unacceptable conditions at immigration holding and detention facilities across California. But instead of working to improve conditions at these facilities — instead of enforcing ICE’s own detention standards — the Trump Administration is trying to jam through a new facility on a community that doesn’t want it,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta back in June.

    “Under this Administration, we’ve seen ICE offices have become mini-detention centers, despite being unequipped for long-term holding. That’s unacceptable. So is the secrecy surrounding the details of this project. But one thing is clear: ICE’s plans to construct a facility near Gilroy violates multiple federal laws. We’re suing to stop this project and protect the interests of California communities.”

    A Democrat-appointed California judge sat on the Fresno County Superior Court for more than two decades.

    Federal prosecutors now say that while he still wore the robe, he led a judicial assistant into a courthouse stairwell and sexually assaulted her, then lied to the FBI and tried to doctor records to cover a second incident involving another court employee found passed out in his chambers.

    Adolfo M. Corona was put on the Fresno County Superior Court in 2003 by Democratic Gov. Gray Davis. A judicial profile listed his political affiliation as Democrat. He stayed on the bench until May 1, 2024.

    According to ABC30 Fresno, no plea deal has been offered. A trial confirmation hearing is expected in July 2027, with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for August.

    A Bill Clinton-appointed federal judge in San Francisco ruled late Friday that the Trump administration broke the law when the Department of Homeland Security directed FEMA to slash its workforce roughly in half, a decision that hands another victory to federal unions and another setback to President Trump’s campaign to shrink a disaster agency he has long called wasteful, politicized, and overdue for reform.

    U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, sitting in the Northern District of California, granted partial summary judgment to the American Federation of Government Employees and allied plaintiffs.

    She found that DHS “usurped” FEMA’s personnel authority and unlawfully steered the agency toward cutting thousands of disaster-response jobs, including by moving last year to stop routinely renewing temporary Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery (CORE) contracts.

    Illston leaned on a post-Hurricane Katrina statute that says DHS “may not substantially or significantly reduce” FEMA’s authorities, responsibilities, or functions.

    In her telling, a parent department telling a subordinate agency to get leaner is not management, it is an illegal takeover.

    She wrote there was “no evidence in the record reflecting reasoned decision-making” for the staffing target and said FEMA’s projection of 11,383 employees for the coming fiscal year, about half of prior levels near 23,000, looked as if it had been “pulled from thin air.”

    Unions argue the plan would gut disaster response, was never blessed by Congress, and was driven by then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem rather than invented inside FEMA.

    The administration has said FEMA has flexibility to set staffing and that the president’s job is to run the executive branch, not preserve every contract a bureaucracy wants renewed forever.

    President Trump has been blunt for more than a year: FEMA should be overhauled or phased down, and states, not a distant Washington apparatus, should own disaster response.

    As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Trump said in January 2025 he would sign an order to “fundamentally reform and overhaul FEMA or maybe get rid of FEMA,” arguing governors know their own ground better than federal cadres who “don’t know the area” and arrive with a rulebook.
