Georgia State Motto

The southern state of Georgia, nicknamed “The Peach State,” has more than one motto, though one is much more accepted than the other. Many believe the state motto of Georgia is “Wisdom, Justice, Moderation,” since that straightforward message appears on the side of the state’s two-sided state seal, which has remained unchanged since 1799. The other side of the seal, though, has the inscription “Agriculture and Commerce,” offering a choice of mottoes.

When early state legislators approved Georgia’s two-sided seal on 8 February 1799, succinct instructions were laid out regarding its appearance. The front of the seal depicts a three-columned structure holding up the state’s “Constitution.” Each pillar is decorated with a banner: “Wisdom,” “Justice” and “Moderation.” The three pillars also represent the three established branches of state and federal government — the legislative, judicial and executive branches, respectively.

Historians point to Plato as the source of the chief state motto of Georgia. The Greek philosopher wrote in Republic that these pillars, along with “Courage,” form the basic construction of civilized government. Though courage is not represented by a pillar or by name, a single armed soldier, standing at attention between “Justice” and “Moderation” is said to represent this other quality.

The other side of the seal, however, boldly proclaims “Agriculture and Commerce” around the perimeter. For this reason, many believe this is another of Georgia’s mottoes, even though Tennessee has chosen this for its official motto. At the center of this proclamation on the back of the seal is a picture depicting a tall ship bearing a U.S. flag and two smaller expedition boats, with a farmer and distant lumberyard beside them.

No official state motto of Georgia was actually selected, however. In fact, just a few dozen states have an official motto. The only change that has occurred to Georgia’s state seal since 1799 was in 1914, when legislators changed the date on both sides of the seal to read “1776” — the year of American independence. Until then, the seal read “1799,” for when the state joined the union.

    1. Good Morning!

High pressure area here and sunny. Pollen is very high, mulberry trees.

Canceled S and GS visit yesterday. Just too tired, and of course, then I feel guilty.

Take care, God bless, have a fantastic Friday. 😊

I know what you mean about the pollen! living in the woods, we still get a lot of pollen! As soon as I come in from putting out all the feeders, I can feel it in my nose.

I hope you have a relaxing day!

May God bless all you do!

        any sign of Wheezer?

the orioles and grosbeaks have somewhat slowed down their assaults on the jelly feeder in the last 2 days. I took out a pitcher of warm water to clean off the railing and there was no one scolding me from the trees…lol

I wonder if our cooler temps are affecting all the birds–didn’t make it out of the mid 50’s yesterday.

        1. Nope, no sign of him. As for the birds, it could be that they are focused on nesting right now. IDK if the cooler weather would affect them that much, tbh. I guess it’s possible. BTW, did you eventually get to speak to your Mom yesterday?

i made sure she had paper and pencil to write notes, but she forgets to do that too unless I specifically tell her to and wait.
sigh. it’s okay though. we talk about the same things over and over in our phone calls…but it’s not about that…it’s about hearing her voice and listening to her laugh.

  1. hahahahahaha…I LOVE IT! socialist running for mayor of LA gets treated to a mock encampment outside her OWN HOUSE…and she wasn’t happy about it, despite championing them earlier.
    FTA
Nithya Raman is a member of the Los Angeles city council who is running for mayor on the far left. She wants to be the Zohran Mamdani of LA.

That’s not even an exaggeration, by the way. She has the same political philosophy as Mamdani, is supported by all the same types of people, and like Mamdani, she was born outside of the United States but feels completely entitled to run one of our biggest cities.

Recently, some activists set up a homeless encampment outside of her house. They were trying to make a point about her support for occupy-style tent encampments. She had the nerve to be offended by this.

    The New York Post reports:

Brutal karma for Nithya Raman as she goes ballistic over staged homeless encampment outside her home

Socialist LA mayoral candidate Nithya Raman is getting hammered online after appearing visibly rattled by a staged homeless encampment protest outside her own home.

“I’m glad my kids didn’t have to see that,” Raman told comedian Adam Conover on his podcast released Wednesday before adding, “I thought this campaign was going to be about bike lanes and transportation.”

Raman was referring to a staged Memorial Day protest outside Raman’s Silver Lake-area home.

Footage from the stunt shows homeless people climbing out of tents, staging an open-air barbecue and one individual walking around carrying a bucket as neighbors recorded the scene.

The podcast was quickly shared on online with comment exploding because Raman has spent years defending homeless encampments near schools, parks and neighborhoods across Los Angeles while opposing tougher enforcement restrictions.

Critics immediately accused the Democratic Socialist councilmember of showing a stunning lack of self-awareness as families across Los Angeles continue dealing with encampments outside homes, playgrounds and schools.

DHS JUST PUBLISHED THE EXACT LIST OF AIRPORTS THEY WILL SHUT DOWN IF SANCTUARY CITIES REFUSE TO COOPERATE

Not vague threats. Not “we’ll look into it.” NAMED FACILITIES. SPECIFIC AIRPORTS. City by city.
JFK — New York City’s primary international gateway → customs processing ENDED
LaGuardia — New York → international arrivals rerouted
Newark — New Jersey → 5th busiest cargo hub in the US → SHUT for customs
LAX — Los Angeles → 2nd busiest international airport in America → OFFLINE
O’Hare — Chicago → one of the largest cargo airports on Earth → GONE
San Francisco → Silicon Valley’s global gateway → customs ENDED
SEA — Seattle → Pacific Rim trade hub → SHUT
Logan — Boston → New England’s only major international port → OFFLINE
    PHL — Philadelphia → GONE
    PDX — Portland → GONE
DEN — Denver → the hub connecting the entire Mountain West to international routes → SHUT

    10+ named airports
    10 sanctuary jurisdictions
ZERO of these cities have agreed to cooperate with ICE detainers
100% of the consequence falls on international travelers, cargo operators, and connecting passengers — not on the politicians who made the policy

Every airport on this list processes the international arrivals that feed the entire domestic flight network. Not just international travelers. Every connecting passenger. Every cargo shipment. Every tourist dollar.

Mullin’s exact words: “They don’t want us to enforce immigration, but they want us to process immigration at their facilities.”

That is not a political slogan. That is the operational rationale already being briefed to airline executives.

Mullin’s plans are still being drawn up. These are the airports at the center of it right now.

I’ll keep you updated. Turn on notifications.

  3. “Heartbeat Of America”

    Newsletter | May 28, 2026

“No one thing can fully capture the heartbeat of America. But it is stronger than ever.

What drives America isn’t really our huge economy, the world’s largest by far — rather, it’s the people who make that economy hum. Americans make America work — and succeed beyond compare to all other countries – our industrious and inventive men and women creating and building things that amaze and improve the world over. From rocket scientists and technology entrepreneurs to small business owners, farmers, nurses, and police officers, all determined to do their part to keep America buzzing with life.

It’s the same with all our great institutions, where American ingenuity and patriotism is forged like the hardest steel. Take the Department of War: what makes it strong isn’t just its sheer size, but rather the energy and vitality of the millions of American men and women in our armed forces who devote their lives to protecting our freedoms.

Turn down the noise and block out the media and social media. Ignore the doom prophets, foreign and domestic, plug your ears against the siren call of moral and societal corruption. Now you can hear it, that steady sound, it’s unmistakable — that’s the heartbeat of America — relentless and unmistakably alive.

    Can you hear it yet?

Pull back some to see the bigger picture and how we became so strong. It starts in the home, where mothers and fathers first teach their children right from wrong, how to honor God and their country, and how to protect what they love most, their families and their communities. We’ve seen problems in our education system over the last few years, but the core remains solid, thanks to good kids with good parents, honest teachers, and dedicated coaches – all working to help students succeed.

Look at the playing fields from the east coast to the west — boys and girls from 5-18 learning how to win with grace, lose with honor, and share in victory and defeat with their teammates. Any summer weekend, you can hear it in the roar of the players, the happy instruction of coaches, and the proud applause of parents — that’s the heartbeat of America.

That sound started with the birth of America 250 years ago and continues today as strong as ever. There will indeed be challenges and setbacks, even defeats, but the sound that calls patriots to the field where we fight to preserve our liberties and protect our families, communities, and country is that steady rhythm…the heartbeat of America.”

  5. Just The News: “The Justice Department’s U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois’s office denied reports Thursday that it had opened a perjury investigation into E. Jean Carroll, who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault.

Multiple outlets reported Wednesday the department opened an investigation into whether Carroll committed perjury in civil lawsuits against the president.

The alleged investigation focused on her 2022 deposition, in which she reportedly claimed that she received no outside funding for her lawsuit, but it was later revealed that billionaire Reid Hoffman paid some legal fees and expenses.

“In light of widespread reporting and intense media and public interest in the E. Jean Carroll matter in New York, the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s Office can confirm that it has not opened—and has never opened—a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll,” U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Andrew Boutros said. “Any claim to the contrary is categorically false.”

The New York Times, which cited anonymous sources in its initial report on the alleged probe, acknowledged Boutros’ denial and said sources have since told it that Hoffman’s nonprofit, American Future Republic — and not Carroll — is currently the subject of the criminal inquiry. CNN has also reported on the alleged investigation.

Carroll accused Trump in a civil case of sexually assaulting her in a Manhattan department store dressing room in 1996 and later defaming her by dismissing her claims as a “hoax.” A jury sided with Carroll in 2023, awarding her $5 million. Carroll was also awarded an $83 million judgment in another defamation case related to the sexual assault allegation.”

  6. Just The News: “Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters at the White House Thursday that he will not be granting any sanctions relief for Iran until it turns over its enriched uranium, which is used in nuclear programs.

The comment comes the same day sources said the U.S. and Iran have reached a tentative agreement to extend their ceasefire by 60-days and begin talks on the regime’s nuclear program, though President Trump has not signed off on it.

Bessent, who filled in for White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt while she’s on maternity leave, declined to confirm the extended ceasefire but said the U.S. will not lift the sanctions on Iran until the country hands over the uranium and commits to not working toward obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“Nothing is going to be on the table until we see the Strait of Hormuz open, and the Iranians agree that they have to turn over the highly enriched uranium, and that they can’t have a nuclear program,” Bessent said.

The secretary said the decision on the extended ceasefire is up to President Donald Trump and assured the public that the president would not make a deal that is bad for America.

“It’s always a mistake to get out ahead of the president, so it is all going to be the president’s decision,” he said. “We can see that the president very clearly stated his three [pre-requisites]: Open the Strait, highly enriched uranium, no nuclear program.”

we saw a doe being very cagey around the thick grass/weeded area along the driveway. As soon as i see her I watch to see if there’s any movement in the grass. I’m fairly certain she already gave birth and I’m hoping to see the baby soon! (Hubby specifically does not mow that one area because the doe like it so much…lol) She also has her gorgeous coat.

We saw several smaller doe yesterday–mangy looking coats on parts of them yet and you can tell they are not pregnant and probably last year’s babies.

Yes, in fact, the above is true. Under Senate Republican Conference Rule III, five Republican senators can force a meeting of the Republican Conference by submitting a written request. The Conference Chair (currently Tom Cotton) is then required to call the meeting.

Once the conference is meeting, a motion could be made to hold a leadership election or vote of confidence. Republican Conference rules then require a secret ballot. It would take 27 Senators out of 53 to vote to remove Thune as Senate Majority Leader. The people need to demand action!

  11. Somewhere along the way, between No Child Left Behind, Common Core, and the Obama years, math apparently stopped being about getting the right answer and started being about explaining your feelings to the number seven.

A generation of Millennials was told there are twelve different ways to solve 2 + 2, provided they can draw a colorful diagram, write a reflective essay, and form a small discussion group about the emotional journey of addition.

Back in the day, if you got the answer wrong, your teacher handed the paper back with a red mark.

Under New Math, getting the answer wrong just means you haven’t fully explored your mathematical truth yet. The result is a generation that can create a 47-slide PowerPoint explaining why 2 + 2 equals 5, but still needs a smart phone with a calculator app to figure out the tip at a diner.

Which reminds me of a certain song…

    A little farm update:

A few days ago, we had a single pea-baby hatch. Normally, the solution is to go get some chicks to keep him company, but more chickens is not what we need. Our coop is at full capacity, we have juvenile turkeys in our smaller run, and eggs are overflowing on the kitchen counter.

We hopefully have more eggs to hatch in a few days, so the little guy will get avian company soon enough.

So, for now – I am playing peahen. We have a little peababy under foot, on the sofa when we watch TV, and on our bed as we drink coffee in the morning… You get the idea. He has become quite tame and seems to be thriving.

“We’ve gotten 20 countries now around the world who have signed agreements that allow us to deport people to those places.” “What often happens when you go to the person who’s here unlawfully and say, ‘we’re going to send you to this third country’ is all of a sudden they decide they’d rather go back to their home country instead.”
