Many years ago, when all of our families were younger and we lived much closer to one another, we had wonderful picnics and parties.  We would rotate who hosted, who brought the meats, who was in charge of games for the kids and so on.  No one family was stuck doing it all, all the time.

There were traditions, of course, my mom made the potato salad and I was always in charge of games. My mother-in-law always made either the beans or occasionally mac & cheese.  Her beans, though, were the STANDARD for baked beans!  They were homemade, soaked overnight, honest to goodness baked beans! And the flavor? Perfection!  So much so that my sister-in-law and I repeatedly asked for her recipe.

She always promised to give us the recipe, but event after event would pass, and still we were recipe-less. One day, while we were planning the next picnic, my sister-in-law and I decided we would tag team her to get the recipe.  (After all, she never said it was her own secret, never-to-be-revealed recipe.  That we would have respected.)  When we invited her and my father-in-law (it was at my sister-in-law’s house this time), I told her I would come over the morning of the picnic and help with the beans.  That way, I told her, I could write the recipe down as we made the beans and she wouldn’t have to worry about it. 

Imagine my surprise when she told me she already had it written down for us!  And true to her word, she brought us each a recipe card!  I tucked the card into my purse, and didn’t give it another thought.  A few weeks later, I was planning hamburgers for supper and pulled out the recipe to make a pot of beans.  Hmmmmm…there was no need to soak beans overnight?  Her recipe was just throwing ingredients into a casserole, baking for half an hour, stirring and repeating that process 2 more times.  Puzzled, I called her and asked.  Sure enough, she said she no longer soaked the beans, just used northern beans and assured me this was her recipe.

At dinner that night, the beans were good, but not my mother-in-law good, so the next day I called my sister-in-law.  I wondered if she made the beans and how they turned out.  She said she tried the recipe—and while they were good—they weren’t quite like our mother-in-law’s.  We puzzled over it for a bit, and then she asked, do you think it’s the Worcestershire Sauce?  I asked what Worcestershire Sauce?  Hmmmmmmm…as we compared the recipes, each of our recipes contained ingredients the other did not.  Sigh…

When we confronted my mother-in-law about the discrepancies, she denied knowing that she did that.  She explained that she was always “tweaking” the recipe and we both got possible versions.  Neither of us bought the excuse, but filed it under “keeping the family peace” and moved on.

Several years later, my mother-in-law passed away suddenly and since my sister-in-law was no longer a part of the family, my daughter and I were tasked with cleaning out her kitchen. We came upon the recipe box and sat down to thumb through the recipes.  My daughter was anxious to “inherit” the mac & cheese and nut tassie recipes and I was curious about the beans.  None of those was in the box.  We were stumped. Perhaps she had her recipes memorized and never wrote them down?

We moved on to other cabinets and eventually found the casserole dish she always brought the mac and cheese in.  My daughter gleefully claimed the dish.  If she couldn’t have the recipe, she could at least have the dish!  Then she opened the freezer. There on the shelf were a half dozen Stouffer Mac & Cheese dinners…the size that would fit perfectly into the casserole dish she was holding. 

Our eyes locked over the casserole dish and we burst out laughing.  To this day, I will always believe I am making the best baked beans there is.  Here is my adopted recipe:

    cloudy morning again here, but hubby says we aren’t supposed to get rain all week…sigh
    our little creek is drying up…and more animals will be comign to the pond for water.

  2. ground report from our banana run yesterday: some aisles at walmart were depleted–which i see normally after july 4th weekend–the chip aisle, the soda aisle–those were down…but the meats were stocked up plenty. I just defrosted my freezer so i stocked up on meats. the one weird thing was there was NO stick margarine–not any brand at all…butter was fine, but margarine was wiped out. (corn on the cob maybe?)
    but as we were leaving the parking lot, there were 2 walmart 18 wheelers pulling in…so maybe just a matter of timing.

    Under a new Biden administration policy, illegal aliens who are deported from the United States no longer are forced to wait outside the country for up to 10 years before applying for legal status.

    The law was meant to deter people from trying to live in the country illegally, the Washington Times reported.

    Previously, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services would have denied any application for legal status under the so-called three-year/10-year rule. That meant that anyone without legal status for at least six months but less than a year had to depart and wait three years before applying to come back legally. Anyone in the country illegally for more than a year had to wait 10 years.

    Emilio Gonzalez, who headed the USCIS during the George W. Bush administration, said the new Biden protocol is like the Clinton administration policy “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Under the 1990s policy, military applicants were not to be asked about their sexual orientation.

    “We won’t ask you where you’ve been during your inadmissible period, and you don’t tell us. It’s sheer craziness,” Gonzalez said.

    The new DHS policy states “noncitizen’s location during the statutory 3-year or 10-year period and the noncitizen’s manner of return to the United States during the statutory 3-year or 10-year period are irrelevant for purposes of determining inadmissibility.”

    Robert Law, who led the USCIS policy office for the Trump administration, told the Washington Times the policy is “basically an invitation for any deported alien to pay the cartels to smuggle them back into the U.S. while they let the clock run out.”

    The Times said the policy will apply retroactively. That means migrants previously denied can file motions to reopen their case.

    But our elected officials are embarrassingly quiet on answering the basic question of who exactly is benefiting from the constant rounds of shots being foisted on or recommended to the American public?

    Maybe the silence comes from the fact that the pharmaceutical industry spends more on lobbying than any other industry group. In 2020 big pharma spent over $300 million lobbying officeholders and government officials. It clearly pays off. The research to develop the COVID-19 vaccines was nearly all funded by taxpayers. The distribution of the vaccines, once developed, was further funded nearly entirely by taxpayers. The record-keeping and reporting on the vaccines is also at the expense of taxpayers, and the new repurposed Pfizer drug Paxlovid, used to treat COVID, has been paid for by taxpayers.

    If the vaccinations are proving to be ineffective in stopping the march of the disease, are they really worth what the federal government is paying the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture, distribute, and administer them? Is the public being played for suckers by a cabal of industry giants and their friends in the medical bureaucracies?

    Just consider a few facts. The pharmaceutical industry is said to spend $5.2 billion annually on television advertising aimed primarily at the consumer. It poured another $9.53 billion into digital advertising aimed at consumers and industry in 2020.

    This total of nearly $15 billion spent by Big Pharma on advertising is more than twice what is spent on new cancer drug research. In fact, nine out of 10 of the largest pharmaceutical companies in America spend more on advertising than on research and development.

  15. Sliding on down before I read…..I always use Great Northern Beans for my bean soup – my a-Mom’s recipe! LOL – growing up, we rarely had mac ‘n cheese and we always used Campbells Pork ‘n Beans – since I am a HUGE fan of brown sugar, I now eat Bush Beans. Small world indeed!!!! Now I use the Velveeta cheese sauce for mac ‘n cheese but I just buy a big box of elbow mac (since I also use it for tuna casserole) and buy the foil packets of the cheese sauce. As for games, it was always me with 8 boys, altho the 2 older ones didn’t pay much attention to the rest of us. We would go tramping in the fields, take the 22 out squirrel hunting, go play with the baby chicks, or play board games. And, of course, the obligatory religious songs using the little song books (I still have one of those, btw).

              1. Since I don’t eat that much, I cut just a corner of the foil bag, squeeze out what I want, then fold over the top, paper clip it, and put it in the fridge. Then I use the rest the next time. It’s super handy and who DOESN’T have elbow mac on hand at all times??!!?? I always used to use the Kraft box mac-n-cheese but I like the Velveeta sauce better – I think you can get the Kraft sauce like that, too.

    And if Obama isn’t supporting Biden, then nobody’s supporting Biden. It’s over.

    There’s rich irony in Obama’s chief advisor calling the Biden regime — which is really Obama’s illegitimate third term in office — a complete failure. Do you really think it was Joe Biden who picked Montel Williams’ Indian girlfriend as his running mate? Or Susan Rice as his White House Number #2 after Ron Klain? How many decisions do you think Joe Biden — a guy who needs cue cards to tell him to sit down at meetings — is making about anything?

    My old pal Steven Nelson was responsible for getting his colleagues to muster some composure at the 11th hour — and at least pretend to be journalists in the midst of the Biden regime’s collapse. Of course, for most of us, this kind of thing is a day late and a dollar short — to say the very least. The vast majority of these pansies were perfectly fine with Biden hiding from them at the White House for the last 18 months.

    A similar letter was passed around in April, and it garnered only ten signatures. Why did almost 70 reporters sign up for press freedom now? Why would unpaid Obama/Biden staffers like April Ryan and Peter Baker sign the letter at all?

    MAHA, Neb.—Smithfield Foods will pay restaurants and caterers $42 million to settle a lawsuit that accused the giant meat producer of conspiring to inflate pork prices, which will likely only add to concerns about how the lack of competition in the industry affects meat prices.

    Lawyers began notifying companies affected by this latest settlement Tuesday. Previously, Smithfield settled with a different group of pork buyers for $83 million, and JBS agreed to pay the restaurants and caterers $12.75 million in the pork lawsuit. Earlier this year, JBS also said it would pay $52.5 million to settle a similar beef price-fixing lawsuit. Neither Smithfield nor JBS admitted any wrongdoing as part of those settlements, and officials at Smithfield’s headquarters in Virginia declined to comment on the details of the deal.

    Additional price-fixing lawsuits have also been filed against chicken producers. Nearly $200 million of settlements have been approved in those chicken cases.

    The restaurant companies that sued accused the meat processors that control more than 70 percent of pork production of coordinating efforts to limit the supply of hogs and inflate prices between 2009 and this year.

    The lawsuit remains pending against other major pork producers, including Hormel, Tyson Foods, Seaboard Foods, and Triumph Foods, and the Agri Stats database company they allegedly used to share confidential information about price, capacity, and demand.

    The lawsuit says that the private information in those reports allowed competitors to compare their profits and helped them control the supply and price of pork.

    The meat industry argues that supply and demand factors drive prices, not anticompetitive behavior, but the industry’s practices have been questioned by the White House, several prominent members of Congress, and trade groups.

      1. seems they are going after the “big 5” as my son in law the farmer calls them. they are huge processing plant companies–the farmers are forced to bring their animals there to be processed and get a low amount per head–but then the processing plant raises the prices to sell to stores–the prcoessing plants are reaping the $$ not the farmers–the MIDDLE MAN
        and those companies squeeze out little processors or outright buy them creating the 5 country wide processors…it’s disgusting

The powers that be say that it is warmer than usual in some parts of the country, which they are already blaming for future blackouts.

    “Federal agencies responsible for power reliability, like the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), have warned that grids in the western half of the country could face reliability issues this summer as consumers crank up air conditioners to escape the heat,” claims a report from Refinitiv data. As energy equipment breaks down over the summer, power companies say they probably will not have the spare parts or other resources necessary to fix it fast enough to keep the power on – supposedly because of the heat.

    The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which mismanaged the infamous Texas blackouts of early 2021, says it is already asking customers to cut back on their energy use and turn up their air conditioning units after six power plants shut down back in May during an alleged heatwave.

    How do they know for sure that nationwide blackouts are coming?

    Another event in Ohio that was blamed on a “storm” left some 200,000 homes and businesses without power. The grid operator there said it had to intentionally shut down power in some areas to prevent remaining lines from becoming overloaded. There sure are a lot of this mysterious incidents happening at once, almost as if someone is testing the grid to see how easy it is to knock out at a later date, which they already appear to be planning for in advance.

    They already introduced us to the “Great Reset” followed by “Reset the Table.” Is this the part where they reset the energy supply and force everyone into darkness as part of some bizarre initiation into the New World Order? Or, it could just be that America’s energy system is now so overloaded and mismanaged, coupled with a forced transition into “green” energy, that the systems currently in existence are simply unable to handle the load whenever it gets a little bit hot or rains.

    According to Ralph Izzo, head of the New Jersey-based Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), energy utilities are having to be frugal with their replacement parts inventories in order to avoid running out in the event of a weather emergency – or even just a few consecutive days of heavy heat.

    “You don’t want to deplete your inventory because you don’t know when that storm is coming, but you know it’s coming … If we have successive days of 100-degree-heat, those pole top transformers, they start popping like Rice Krispies, and we would not have the supply stack to replace them,” he is quoted as saying.

    Nick Akins, head of the Ohio-based grid operator AEP, added that many utility operators are changing their maintenance habits as well. “We’re doing a lot more splicing, putting cables together, instead of laying new cable because we’re trying to maintain our new cable for inventory when we need it,” Akins says. In the comment section at RT, one person was quick to point out that perhaps the United States should stop sending billions of dollars to Ukraine and instead “fix the country.”

    “But no profit is as good as war,” this person added.

      1. Our panhandle gets their water from the CO River……there has been an agreement in place about that for close to 100 years but some states have been wanting to renege on that deal.

Therefore, we will reach out at a later date to reschedule.”

    Droppers did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The email was sent from Droppers’ state government email address, and drew sharp rebukes from many who received it. One such community member replied that “as a person of color, I am calling BS!” Another recipient, a health equity manager at a medical group, said she was “thrown” by the claim.

    “Please, educate me on what the state means by urgency is a white supremacy value,” she wrote. “Also, I would like to know how this gets in the way of the RHEC/CAC work. I have struggled all morning with how to communicate the reason for the postponement to our CAC.”

    Droppers did not follow up on her initial email with an explanation. A county health official, however, responded that “I too was taken by surprise on the statement and decided to investigate it for further comprehension and wanted to share a link that I found.”

    The link redirects to a website that purportedly identifies aspects of white supremacy culture. The website was “conceived and designed” by Tema Okun, a white antiracist educator who has popularized the idea that several benign and widespread traits are actually characteristic of white supremacy. Among these are preferring quantity over quality, wanting things to be written down, perfectionism, becoming defensive, and yes, possessing a sense of urgency.”

    The 1776 Project, the first national PAC specifically launched to boost school board candidates opposed to CRT, plans to pour around $300,000 into races in Florida, the PAC’s founder Ryan Girdusky told Axios. By comparison, the group has spent about two-thirds of that in Texas, New York and Georgia combined. It’s considering engaging in some contests in California.

    Politico recently reported that dozens of committees with Florida GOP ties were putting money toward candidates who share DeSantis’ views. What they’re saying: “Parents across Florida should ask school board candidates and their current school board members how they scored on the DeSantis Education Agenda,” Dave Abrams, DeSantis re-election campaign senior adviser, told Axios in a statement.

    Abrams added the agenda “serves as a model for the nation as Florida’s school board candidates run and win.”
    Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice, a former school board member, told Axios that teachers’ unions have long controlled school boards — but that could change because “they actually have people who are fighting against them now.”

    One national education leader told Axios that governors endorsing school board candidates was “out of the ordinary.” The leader said the pandemic led to a surge in interest in school boards, although they’ve seen some of the political turmoil “settle down a little bit.”

    How it works: Candidates endorsed by DeSantis and described as “pro-parent” include:

    – Carney, who decided to run for the Duval County school board after her kids struggled with school COVID policies. She has raised more than $74,000 already while incumbent Elizabeth Anderson has also raised over $75,000 — hefty sums for school board races.

    – Fred Lowry in Volusia County, who promoted QAnon conspiracy theories and questioned the reality of the pandemic.

    – Monica Colucci in Miami-Dade County, whose platform includes opposition to CRT and protecting “female athletes and the integrity of female sports.”

    School board candidates in Florida can also visit a DeSantis website and take a survey to see how aligned they are with the governor’s education agenda. Priorities includes rejecting lockdowns, CRT and keeping “Woke Gender Ideology Out of Schools,” according to the site.

    Respondents are asked questions such as “Do you agree that students should be educated and not indoctrinated?” and “Do you support the Governor’s efforts to require students to learn about the horrors of communism?”
    They can claim a non-endorsement certificate that reads, “I stand with Governor Ron DeSantis and pledge to…” followed by a list of education priorities.”

    Yesterday I asked Will Johnson Finally Fall?. Today he did fall.

    In total 51 officials had resigned up to that point.

    Boris Johnson then tried to make a deal. He offered to resign as head of the Conservative Party but wanted to stay as prime minister until the conservative party meeting in October.

    He was told that this was not possible.

    The Economist made that statement by putting him on its front page:

  40. Can someone please explain to me WHY the GA Guidestones were associated with Satanists? I get the NWO connection but, tbh, I don’t object to all of the statements, personally. In fact, most I agree with…..not so much “guiding reproduction” in totality but at least restrict some aspects. As an example, women who just keep having baby after baby after baby after baby because it brings them more taxpayer $$$’s. Nah! Cut them off after 2 and require that they use birth control. I don’t have the first problem with that. Handling exterior matters with other countries should be done amongst those countries, IMO, but The People must always have a say on HOW that is done. For the most part, a lot of it just makes sense. We already subjugate our personal desires in the interests of the social construct to a certain degree – we do it automatically, if we’ve been raised properly.

    I just don’t get the Satanic aspect unless it’s the direct or indirect connection to the whole Kazzarian kind of thing…..
