Halloween is right around the corner and I found an easy project to kick off the decorating!  A DIY yarn spiderweb.  The instructions are adaptable to any size—big or small—and are very easy to follow!

How to Make a Spiderweb

In about 30 minutes, you’ll have a spooky decoration ready to go. Follow these simple steps to create your own braided yarn spiderweb.

What You’ll Need

Thick white yarn

Scissors

Hot glue

Yardstick or measuring tape

Step 1: Braid the Yarn

Before you begin braiding, decide how wide you want the web to be and where you’ll hang it. Once you have a measurement, cut nine pieces of yarn. Each piece should be a foot longer than your intended width. For instance, for a 5-foot-wide web, cut nine 6-foot pieces.

Next, tape three strands together at one end and braid them to make one long braid. Repeat this with the remaining threads so you’ll have three braids in total. Arrange these braids so that they intersect at the center with equal spacing and secure them with hot glue in the middle.

Step 2: Arrange the Web

With the center of your web established, you’ll add cross sections to begin constructing the web. Select a braid and mark it 6 inches from the center; repeat this process with each braid. Continue marking every 6 inches until you reach the end of each braid. To match these marks, cut single yarn strands, connecting them to create concentric circles. Or, you can use one long yarn strand in a spiral pattern to achieve a similar effect.

Step 3: Glue Together

After positioning the first layer of strands, secure each one with hot glue. Remember, the side you’re attaching strands to will be the back, so try to place the yarn edges in the center of each braid to make sure they’re hidden. Keep cutting and gluing strands at 6-inch intervals until you finish. If you’re using one continuous strand, continue gluing every 6 inches, and cut it when you reach the end, securing with glue.

Step 4: Prep and Display

When the web form is complete, use hooks, nails, or outdoor tape to hang this fun outdoor Halloween decoration.  Once the web is secured, add some spiders for some extra flair. Pair your oversize webs with spiders for the ultimate scare, or apply clip-on spiders or small spider toys for an easy decor item.

      Yep, no sign of a sunrise here. I wonder if we’ll be setting the clocks back this year 🤔

      Very cute spider web project. I used to enjoy decorating for “Halloween” when my son was little. Now I don’t even like Halloween! I do change my décor to an “Autumn” theme though. (pillow covers, dish towels, shower curtain, knick-knacks, etc). Gives me a change of scenery. 😁

      Time to put in a load of laundry.

        i loved Halloween when the kids were young! Hubby would take them trick or treating and I would pretend (at least the first year) to be sick and just wanted to stay home. when they got back, I had a “stuffed” dummy on the couch wearing my clothes while I hid in the closet. Scared them good that first year…lol. Every year after that it was a Halloween tradition to scare them somehow and they delighted in trying to figure to my plans…LOL

        When they were older, they wanted a Halloween party and we had a ball–both sets of grandparents came dressed in black robes to help. We had a haunted scavenger hunt, and slippery eyeball races…creepy food and a costume contest. It was a hoot!

        The House of Representatives voted in July to approve the Sunshine Protection Act, legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent nationwide, ending the biannual clock changes observed in most states.

        The measure passed through a bipartisan 308-117 vote and was sent to the Senate. However, the Senate has yet to vote on the bill, so no change has been enacted into law. As a result, clocks are still scheduled to be turned back on Nov. 1.”

    Several Developments Are Converging Across the Middle East Tonight

    A series of unusual developments over the past several hours is drawing attention as regional tensions rise:

    • President Trump unexpectedly returned to the White House tonight, cutting short his weekend at Camp David by roughly a day. The White House has given no reason for the schedule change. 

    • The State Department issued a broad security warning across the Middle East, telling Americans to exercise heightened vigilance and warning of possible airspace closures, flight cancellations and rapid escalation. Americans outside the region were told to seriously reconsider travel through it. 

    • Saudi Arabia confirmed a Houthi ballistic missile was fired toward Riyadh today, following overnight air-raid warnings and explosions across the capital. The Houthis also claimed attacks on Saudi oil facilities. 

    • Trump said earlier this week that he is weighing a “big decision” on further military action against Iran, but no new U.S. operation has been announced. 

    There is heavy speculation tonight that additional U.S. military action could be approaching. At this point, however, there is no official confirmation of an imminent U.S. strike against Iran or the Houthis.

    For now, these are significant developments occurring within the same few hours. Whether they’re connected remains unknown.

    The clause states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.”

    That phrase has been interpreted over the last 150 years to guarantee citizenship to any child born in the United States – with a few exceptions – regardless of whether the mother is residing in the country legally.

    The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that interpretation in June in Trump v. Barbara, with Chief Justice John Roberts stating that the phrase “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” refers to the United States’ power to govern anyone living in its territory.

    Critics of the court’s ruling disagree, arguing that the clause does not mean territorial jurisdiction, but national jurisdiction, which requires allegiance to the U.S. government

    They further argue that the 14th amendment was meant to apply only to American citizens and recently freed slaves, not illegal immigrants or tourists who come to the U.S. explicitly to have children.

    “[I]t’s weird to me — to put it bluntly — to consider someone being subject to the jurisdiction thereof as implying simply that their mere presence in the United States…means that [they] are a member of the body politic, and [their] children should be citizens, and that there is nothing that could ever change that,” Hamilton added…..”

    Just The News: “Hundreds of protestors gathered on Friday outside the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts against President Trump’s threats to defund and close the center. Many of the protestors said they fear Trump is going to tear down the Kennedy Center.

    US District Judge Christopher Cooper has ordered the Kennedy Center leadership to give 30 days’ notice prior to any major changes to the building.

    People gathered to walk the route known as “Hands Around the Kennedy Center.” Participants lined up and held hands to form a human chain to block the center.”
