My grandma taught me to use the treadle machine when I was 4-5 yrs old. Also taught me to darn socks! lol I have a Singer and Husqvarna upstairs in the attic. Only sewing I do now is mending.

I have made everything from a man’s 3 piece suit to seat covers for my cousin’s first car. I made my wedding gown too and I make useful things as well–pot holders, oven mitts, bowl cozies, goat coats…and tons of crafty things. I love to sew.

Morning, Pat! A definite chill in the air here – only 64 this morning, cloudy, with faint thunder. Another Robin was trying to hover next to the jelly feeder so I put the open feeder back out for them, now that I have my air pistol to keep the squirrels away from it.
My grandma had a treadle machine that she gave to my a-Mom. I took a Singer sewing class and HomeEc and made a few dresses for myself, as well as baby clothes for my son & daughter. And, of course, my birth Mom still sews some, altho not nearly as much as she used to. She made a LOT of Western shirts for men on the racetrack. She could whip up 2 or 3 a day!

President Donald Trump’s administration has thwarted a planned meeting between two prominent democratic socialists.
According to the WaPo, U.S. diplomats in the Colombian capital of Bogotá told Colombian officials that a planned meeting between Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City and leftist Colombian President Gustavo Petro in New York this week would violate U.S.-imposed visa restrictions against Petro.
Colombian officials took that to mean that the U.S. might arrest Petro if he went ahead with the Mamdani meeting.
Petro’s visa restrictions stem from comments he made outside United Nations headquarters in September 2025.

Just The News: “The Pentagon released the third batch of its declassified UFO files Friday, which showed the federal government investigated UFO sightings that were reported around the world. The 72 latest unearthed files consist of 29 reports from the FBI, 18 from the CIA, 12 from the Department of Defense, 11 from NASA, one from the intelligence community and one document from an unspecified U.S. government agency.
The batch included a July 2008 sighting of a suspected UFO at Harare International Airport in Zimbabwe, where spectators debated whether the object was from a foreign government, according to NBC News. It did not include the verdict.
“Individuals debated if the sighting was an advanced reconnaissance device of a foreign government or of extraterrestrial origins,” the file on the incident reads. “At one point during observation, ‘beams’ were observed emanating from object.”
A Defense Department file from 1946 detailed an “Evaluation Study of the Phenomenon (Flying Saucers).”
“Of some 210 incidents, 20 percent have been explained,” it says. “No tangible evidence which would support a theory that any incidents are attributable to activity of a foreign nation.”
Some of the reported sightings in the files were speculated to be military or scientific experiments, including in a 1949 file about an explosion in the Cascade Mountains, which officials said could be from the Atomic Energy Commission.

Records were slow-walked. Definitions shifted. Agencies repeatedly appeared more interested in protecting programs and reputations than in providing transparency.
That is not evidence of a system characterized by openness and accountability. It is evidence of a system resistant to oversight.
Which brings us to Congress.
What has Congress actually done with the information it has uncovered?
There have been hearings. There have been reports. There have been sharply worded letters, subpoenas, referrals, and public confrontations. Yet the fundamental architecture remains largely intact. The same agencies continue to fund research (with the notable exception of USAID, some of whose “dual function” research activities have been moved to other agencies). The same biodefense bureaucracy continues to operate. The same grant-making mechanisms continue to function. The same oversight failures that generated concern in the first place remain virtually unchanged. Anyone who challenges the system isn’t just shut down; they are ostracized by the government. Their services no longer needed. Their opinions should not be considered.
Congress has demonstrated its ability to investigate. It has not demonstrated its ability to govern. That failure matters because the debate over biological AI assumes the existence of competent and accountable oversight. Yet the recent history of gain-of-function research suggests precisely the opposite. If Congress has struggled to exercise meaningful oversight over traditional biological research programs, why should anyone assume it will be more successful overseeing AI systems capable of dramatically accelerating biological research?

Trump says the deal is “scheduled to get signed tomorrow”, meaning by Iran, then he will head to Europe to finalize the deal.
Most importantly, Iran will have no nuclear weapon, and the “nuclear dust” will be taken and destroyed by the US, and Trump leaves the door open to taking the uranium back to the US first to “downblend and destroy it”. Whether it is destroyed in Iran or the US, I can assure you that the DoE and IAEA will be testing all of it to see where it originated from.
It appears Trump’s plan is for Iran to have the deal signed tomorrow, then Trump will be on the UFC broadcast later that night, to officially announce the war is over, and then he will depart from the White House lawn on Marine One, on his way to Europe to finalize the deal.
