DIY: Dollar Store Uncle Sam

This craft is SUPER EASY and won’t wreck your budget either!

Materials to make an Uncle Sam Gnome

Craft Sticks, Jumbo – Dollar Tree

Cotton Mop Head – Dollar Tree

Americana Acrylics by DecoArt – Santa Red, Titanium White, Victorian Blue

DecoArt Galaxy Glitter – Clear Ice Comet

DecoArt Designer’s Brush Set

Wooden Ball – 1” in diameter

Wooden Stars – Dollar Tree

Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Dollar Tree

Scissors

Pencil

Ruler

To begin the Dollar Tree Craft Stick Uncle Sam Gnome, gather all supplies. To create Uncle Sam’s hat, base coat three jumbo wooden sticks with Santa Red Americana acrylic craft paint, two jumbo wooden sticks with Titanium White acrylic craft paint, and two jumbo sticks with Victorian Blue Americana acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. Using scissors, trim one blue and one unpainted jumbo craft stick to the width of the hat and assemble with a glue gun and glue sticks. NOTE: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

Basecoat three wooden stars with Titanium White acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. TIP: Attach small wooden shapes to your work surface with a circle of scotch tape on the back so they stay put while painting.

Cut approximately 24 individual strings from the cotton mop head with scissors. This mop has enough strings that you can make at least 3-4 gnomes.

Flip the Uncle Sam hat over and attach 12 cotton mop head strings along the base of the bottom wooden stick with a glue gun and glue sticks. Glue 12 additional cotton mop head strings on a second layer.

To finish the Dollar Tree Craft Stick Uncle Sam Gnome, flip the hat back over and attach the wooden ball to Uncle Sam’s beard with a glue gun and glue sticks to create the gnome part of this project. Glue the three wooden stars onto the hat band.

Using a paintbrush and a dabbing motion, add the DecoArt Galaxy Glitter Clear Ice Comet to the three wooden stars to add some additional sparkle to those stars and stripes. Dabbing this heavily-loaded glitter acrylic medium onto the wooden stars allows for maximum coverage. Set aside to allow the glitter to dry.

Pat’s note: The instructions do not include a hanger for the back, which I would want. Also, there are no measurements given, but using a 1 inch wooden ball makes me think this is not large enough for a door hanger. When I make this, I will make it large enough to hang on my door and report back as to dimensions.

  1. Good Morning All!

it’s partly cloudy, partly sunny here and 50*. One of the female orioles, a small one, prefers the hummer feeder to the jelly. lol she goes to the jelly but turns her nose up and flies to the hummer feeder every time.

    1. Good Morning, Pat!

I love the craftsy stuff, though I don’t do it any more.

Just about 70* and AC has been kicking on during the night. Looks like our cooler, drier weather is dissolving into the normal, yucky hot, humid weather.

Son and GS stopped by last night to visit. We sat in the front yard; it only took GS a few seconds before he figured out how to open the gate! lol And second grandchild will be a girl 👍

      Take care. God Bless. 🙏

      1. Good Morning Gina!
how wonderful!!! a boy and a girl grandchildren! We were blessed with only 1 grandchild and we spoil her rotten. But she doesn’t act spoiled–she’s a farm kid. She works hard at school, works hard on the farm, has a part time job and wants to be a veterinarian. she’s in sports, business clubs, ski club–she’s always active.
she and I did crafts when she was young–and she’s still doing them–only upscaled. She built an adirodak chair in wood shop last year and this year in metal shop she made a boot rack welding horseshoes on to metal bars.
you can do crafts with her when she gets older!
        May God Bless you all!!

        1. Thank you. 😊 I was hoping for another boy; a girl is a new idea for me. Seems kind of petty, but I’m glad to have a granddaughter to pass on my few “jewelries” . 😁

Minnesota Gonna Minnesota: Prosecutors Say No Evidence Against Church Protesters Despite the Videotape

You probably thought to yourself, “That’s a crime, and the agitators should be charged.”

If you did assume that, then you’re a lot more logical than the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office, which said in a statement Wednesday that they are not going to take action because, unbelievably, “the current evidence is insufficient to meet that standard for criminal charges under Minnesota state statutes.” This, despite the whole thing being on tape and with multiple eyewitnesses on scene.

BREAKING: Senate Votes 48-50 to Reject SAVE America Act – FOUR Republicans Join the Democrats

The Senate on Thursday evening rejected the SAVE America Act as part of the reconciliation package.

Four Republicans voted to reject the Graham Amendment: Murkowski, McConnell, Tillis, and Collins.

The amendment needed 60 votes to pass, but this voted showed that the Republicans likely wouldn’t pass the SAVE America Act if the filibuster was nuked.

Thursday’s vote on the SAVE America Act is part of the Senate’s vote-a-rama.

It’s official. The SAVE America Act is still stalled in the Senate.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune and others have previously floated passing the SAVE America Act through reconciliation which only requires 51 votes.

This requires approval from the Senate Parliamentarian and she would immediately slash the SAVE America Act from the reconciliation package because it is not a budgetary item.

The only option is to nuke the filibuster and pass bills with 51 votes in the Senate.

However, Thursday’s vote showed that the Senate Republicans still don’t have the votes to pass with a simple majority.

President Trump has repeatedly called on the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act.

“Requirement for Voter I.D. to vote should be something that NO American should oppose. If you want to register to vote in the United States, you have to be a citizen in the United States,” the White House previously said in a statement.

The White House previously touted a poll that showed more than 70% of Americans support the SAVE America Act:

    – 71% support the SAVE America Act — including 69% of independents and half of rank-and-file Democrats.

    – 81% favor requiring voter ID — backed by 79% of independents and 70% of Democrats.

    – 80% want states to purge non-citizens from voter rolls.

    – 75% support proof of citizenship to vote.

    – 61% support sharing unredacted voting rolls with the Department of Homeland Security.

JUST IN: Three Republican Senators Vote with Democrats to Block Pulte From Serving as Acting DNI – Vote Fails Anyway

Three Republican Senators on Thursday joined the Democrats and voted to block Bill Pulte from serving as the Acting Director of National Intelligence.

RINO Senators Cassidy, Collins and Murkowski voted for a Democrat sponsored amendment that would bar a Senate-confirmed head of another department from serving as Acting DNI.

Senator Mark Warner introduced the amendment to block Pulte from serving as Acting DNI.

    The amendment failed in a 49-49 vote…

The Senate is a worthless club that only cares about its own rules and preserving the status quo.

  8. man admits to spying for the chinese
    article
An American citizen has plead guilty to operating on behalf of Chinese intelligence services inside the United States, admitting to gathering information on American targets and attempting to build connections within political circles for the benefit of the Chinese Communist Party.

The Department of Justice announced that Thomas Weir Pauken II, 50, plead guilty Thursday to acting as an agent of the People’s Republic of China without notifying the attorney general as required by federal law.

Federal authorities said Pauken spent years working with contacts linked to China’s intelligence apparatus, helping identify and cultivate Americans capable of providing information of interest to Beijing.

According to court filings, Pauken served as an intermediary between China-based contacts and individuals in the United States, facilitating communications and transmitting information gathered from American targets.

Authorities allege he received more than $100,000 for his efforts and repeatedly traveled between China and the United States as part of the operation.

Federal prosecutors also said Pauken prepared research and reports for other contacts in China whom he believed were connected to the Chinese government.

The FBI described the case as an example of Beijing’s ongoing efforts to penetrate American institutions and collect intelligence inside the United States.

“By his own admission, not only did Thomas Pauken attempt to infiltrate U.S. political circles at the direction of China’s Ministry of State Security, but he gathered intelligence on his American targets and reported it back to his Chinese intelligence handlers,” FBI Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky said.

Federal prosecutors said Pauken maintained relationships with multiple China-based contacts who directed his activities and tasked him with identifying individuals who could provide useful information to Chinese intelligence services.

Pauken is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 1. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, although the final sentence will be determined by a federal judge.

Yesterday a California election official was on saying Caliornia’s election counting is not stupid and silly as people are saying, it’s the law. Well the fact it is the law is exactly what makes it stupid and silly. The US has many stupid and silly laws on the books, being the law doesn’t make anything automatically great.

It’s Illegal to Whistle Underwater in West Virginia
In Arizona, Donkeys Can’t Sleep in Bathtubs
In Kentucky, It’s Illegal to Reptile-Hunt on Sundays
In Virginia, It’s Illegal to Hunt Any Animal on Sundays Unless It’s a Raccoon
In Maine, It’s Illegal to Keep Christmas Decorations Up After January 14
In Alaska, It’s Illegal to Wake a Sleeping Bear to Take a Photo (and stupid too)
In Connecticut, Pickles Must Bounce to Be Considered Pickles
In North Carolina, It’s Illegal to Plow Cotton Fields with Elephants
In Ohio, It’s Illegal to Get a Fish Drunk
In California, It’s Illegal to Eat Frogs That Die During Frog-Jumping Contests
In California, It’s legal for ballots to be accepted for 7 days after the election.
    All stupid silly laws!

  10. hunger strike at Delany Hall in NJ? HARDLY
    FTA
Detainees who are said to be on a “hunger strike” inside ICE’s Delaney Hall detention center are actually stocking up on snacks from the commissary, including sushi, clams, sausage, and other elevated offerings, according to a store menu obtained by The Daily Wire.
Sources have said that the so-called hunger strike at the Newark, New Jersey, facility has involved detainees opting not to eat the meals provided to them, while they rush to the commissary to load up on snacks. The store’s stock includes the typical vending machine snacks, such as Cheetos, Honey Buns, and ramen, while also offering “fresh catch tuna,” “yellow fin tuna steak,” “smoked clams,” a filet of mackerel, summer pork sausage, and teriyaki chicken noodles, according to the menu.
Democratic lawmakers, like Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), have cited complaints that there are worms in the food and poor conditions inside the facility as the reason for the alleged hunger strike.
Former ICE New York Field Office Deputy Director Scott Mechkowski dismissed the claims as a complete hoax and said that activist groups are helping detainees pay for their commissary snacks.
“A hunger strike at Delaney Hall? Where the commissary sells out every single week and they can’t keep Flamin’ Hot Cheetos on the shelf. These folks are loading up on tuna steak, teriyaki chicken, Doritos and candy by the handful but sure, they’re starving,” he told The Daily Wire.
“Nothing says ‘hunger strike’ like clearing out the snack aisle. The only thing going hungry around here is the story they’re trying to sell you,” he added.
Commissary sales at Delaney Hall surged 161%, jumping from $11,498 on May 26 to $30,013 on June 1, according to internal data obtained by The Daily Wire. During that time, the detainee population fell from 724 to 621.

  13. EXCERPT: “…..But some House Republicans couldn’t help but interfere.

The bill, which passed on Thursday, with 18 Republicans voting in favor, includes sanctions on Russian banks, oil, and mining companies, as well as a ban on Russian oil imports and 500% tariffs on all other Russian imports to the US.

It also authorized an $8 billion extension of Biden’s lend-lease program for Ukraine to purchase weapons. It also provides Ukraine with $1 billion in security and reconstruction aid.

    Per CNN:

The House voted 226 to 195 to approve the package, which cracks down on Russia with new oil and gas sanctions, in its first big pro-Ukraine measure of Trump’s second term.

Speaker Mike Johnson has urged his members to oppose the measure, arguing in a closed-door meeting Wednesday that they should give Trump space to negotiate with Russia, according to a person in that meeting.

But ultimately, 18 Republicans – and one independent who frequently votes with Republicans – voted to pass the bill in what amounts to a rebuke of Trump’s posture toward Russia’s war in Ukraine, eager to send a message to their leadership after the party with Trump at its helm has drifted in recent years away from backing Ukraine as staunchly as it once had. The party is now fractured over the issue, with many Republicans arguing that the US should not send further aid to the war-torn country.

To even bring the bill to the House floor for a vote required a revolt against House GOP leadership. California Rep. Kevin Kiley, an independent who frequently votes with the GOP, was the final signature on a discharge petition — a procedural tool used to circumvent leadership and force votes on the floor. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, a GOP centrist and co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, spent months working with Rep. Greg Meeks, a Democrat from New York, to land the 218 signatures needed to fast-track the bill to the floor without Johnson’s approval.

The following Republicans voted in favor:……”

  20. Just The News: “The Senate early Friday handed President Donald Trump a significant victory, passing his $70 billion immigration enforcement package without banning a compensation fund designed to help those targeted by weaponized or politicized law-enforcement investigations.

Senators voted 52-47 in favor of the bill after a marathon all-night session of votes on amendments with Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski being the only Republican to oppose it.

The package funds all border enforcement operations, including border patrol and ICE agents, for the remainder of Trump’s presidency. It now moves to the House, which is expected to vote next week.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune signaled Republicans plan to use the vote in the fall election against Democrats, who refused to provide any funding for immigration and border enforcement. “Democrats would not agree to anything, and eventually they walked away altogether, presumably because they thought that it would serve them better to have an issue for November,” Thune, R-S.D., said.”

  22. Sheesh, is it ever hot out there! I decided to try again to get my shed door closed and realized I had to lift it up a bit. So I used a shovel to lift it from the inside on the bottom. That’s a relief – at least it will keep the fucking squirrels and rain out of it.

The rain has passed us by for today – bright sun, clear skies, humid and 90. I was sweating like a stuck pig after I got finished watering my plants. I also pruned some of the Clematis out of the climbing roses. It will strangle the bush if I don’t keep it trimmed back. I was pleased to see the CA Poppies have started coming up in the south bed. I still have one package to plant in the north bed – there are already some coming up from last year.

I had to go out and chase the squirrels off earlier – fired off 3 BB’s at them and I haven’t seen them since. LOL

  23. Tasmanian Devil Escapes Zoo, Evades Captors and Begins Life on the Run

“Thermal imaging drones, sniffer dogs, police, and a growing army of volunteers are being deployed in the Australian state of Queensland after a nefarious Tasmanian Devil escaped its zoo enclosure to begin life on the run.

Devil at ease, but contemplating mayhem. The two-year-old missing marsupial miscreant is named Mary. She fled the Paradise Country wildlife park on the Gold Coast in the dead of night, after arriving at the facility last month, ABC News reports.   The “dead of night.”  Could it have been at any other time?

Park officials said the perimeter had been scoured with Queensland Police and Wildcare Australia also joining the search as it expanded into surrounding areas. University of Queensland adjunct professor and captive animal management expert Al Mucci told the ABC he believed Mary was likely still nearby. “There is a lot of natural bushland area surrounding Paradise Country, so she could move up to a kilometre or so,” he said, per the ABC report.

“She’s probably a little bit scared because it’s all new and maybe [she] found a little hidey spot near a log or a dog kennel even.”

Tasmanian devils are extinct on the Australian mainland and endangered in the island state of Tasmania, where fewer than 25,000 remain in the wild.

While generally shy, they can be bitey and aggressive when provoked or approached by humans, or for no reason whatsoever.  They do, after all, have to live up to their name of devils.

Mary no doubt plans to help her brother and sister devils to break out too, then re-establish a breeding population on the Australian mainland.  Then, after that, world domination is the plan.”
