Nothing says Florida like a palm tree, so it’s fitting that the state tree is sabal palm. Oddly enough though, the sabal palm is not a true tree, and as a palm, is more closely related to grasses.
The sabal palm, also known as the cabbage palm, was designated the state tree in 1953 and occurs on the Florida state seal. There were actually years of debate before the sabal palm was selected as the state tree. Other trees up for consideration were the royal palm, slash pine, and longleaf pine.
Early Floridians had a variety of uses for the sabal palm. The bud of the tree is edible and is known as “heart of palm” and swamp cabbage, the trunk and fronds were used to build shelter, and various fibrous parts were used to make cordage.
Cabbage palm (Sabal palmetto) is native to Florida, grows throughout the state, and continues to grow north along the coast to North Carolina. It happens to also be the state tree of South Carolina. Cabbage palm is found growing in pine woodlands, hammocks, and on river banks. These plants are fairly tolerant of salt spray on foliage but are intolerant of salt in the root zone.
Cabbage palms have curved, fan-shaped palm leaves with blades that are 3 to 4 feet long and petioles (leaf-stalks) that are 3 to 6 feet long. A full, round canopy forms atop a trunk that is 10 to 16 inches in diameter and grows to 40 feet tall. Branched inflorescences are produced in late spring and usually grow beyond the leaves, containing thousands of tiny, creamy-white, fragrant flowers that attract bees. Black fruits are produced in late summer and are consumed by wildlife. The immature leaves—sometimes called the “heart”—are edible and have a cabbage-like flavor.

Good Morning Gina!
Hubby was all itchy yesterday after some mowing…and he has bites on his arms. he thinks maybe ants when he was laying on the ground hooking up the mower deck.
We rarely see butterflies here (not a lot of flowers to draw them) but in the hot part of summer, we will see them on the driveway if it rains. they like the cool mud. I think we’ve only seen a few monarchs though!!
May God Bless you as well!!

Good morning, Pat! Much ado about nothing! It didn’t even rain, much less hail or blow my house down! Sheesh! Still cloudy with a slight breeze this morning – I put several feeders back out and Wheezer showed up at the door after I came back inside. He must have been lurking somewhere nearby – I looked for him when I initially went outside and didn’t see him. So all is well….or at least, as well as it can be. LOL – thanks for thinking of me.

Pair it with the SAVE AMERICA ACT and the rigging will stop!

EXCERPT: “Given another recent assassination attempt on President Trump’s life and the increasing prevalence of left-wing domestic violence in America over the past decade, we should pursue what ought not be a controversial solution: bringing back swift, guaranteed public executions.
When President McKinley was shot by anarchist Leon Czolgosz on Sept. 6, 1901, Czolgosz was convicted and executed by Oct. 29, 1901. In our own time, there are multiple high-profile criminals currently in custody who should be convicted and executed promptly and publicly. Ryan Routh, convicted in federal court for his assassination attempt on Trump at Mar-a-Lago in September 2024, is serving a life sentence. Why do we tolerate his imprisonment, even as we have continued to witness ongoing attempts on the life of the president and vice president? Routh should be executed publicly to send the clearest message to all the enemies who entertain ideas about assassinating President Trump.
Cole Allen, the recent would-be assassin, should also be convicted and executed publicly. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the Afghan alien who attacked and shot two national guardsmen in Washington, D.C., last Thanksgiving, should be convicted and executed publicly. DeCarlos Brown, the black felon with 14 prior arrests who stabbed Iryna Zarutska on the rail in Charlotte, was pronounced mentally incompetent by the state court and thus “incapable to proceed” to trial. Thankfully, President Trump’s Department of Justice, fulfilling the president’s own promises, brought federal charges against Brown in federal court, so he is not likely to get off the hook now. He should be convicted and executed as quickly as possible. Former FedEx driver Tanner Horner, convicted of murdering seven-year-old Athena Strand in 2022, was recently sentenced to the death penalty in Texas. This is undoubtedly encouraging — a prime example of someone who deserves execution — but even this sentence comes years after the crime was committed.
In all of these cases mentioned, the guilt of the accused is not at all in question; it is absurd that these criminals have not already been executed.
Illegal Alien Criminals
We should also have swift convictions and executions for illegal aliens who have committed brutal rapes, murders, and other violent assaults upon Americans, such as the recent horrifying case of Haitian alien Rolbert Joachin in Florida, who is accused of brutally murdering a woman with a hammer. However, in the current political and legal framework, deportation may likely be the faster and easier solution, posing fewer opportunities for leftist judges and advocacy groups to intervene, obstruct, and appeal…..”

it’s NOT JUST Thune! aren’t there enough Senators with BALLS to OUST the bottleneck??
AJ Inapi (Allan)
@aj_inapi
If you’re upset with @LeaderJohnThune
, read this and see what he is doing to block President Trump’s agenda.
As of May 18, 2026, the 119th Congress has seen approximately 730 House-passed bills sent over to the Senate.
SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY.
And the overwhelming majority are STILL sitting there pending, stalled, slow walked, buried in committee, or trapped behind Senate procedure while the clock keeps ticking on President Trump’s term.
President Trump has just over 2 years left.
This is NOT the time for delay.
This is NOT the time for Senate games.
This is NOT the time for “process.”
This is the time for ACTION.
Here are just SOME examples:
– SAVE America Act
Passed the House on February 11, 2026. STILL stalled in the Senate. Roughly 96+ days sitting there while Republicans talk endlessly about election integrity.
– H.R. 1834 — “Breaking the Gridlock Act”
Read a second time in the Senate on February 10, 2026 and placed on the legislative calendar. Approximately 97 days old and STILL sitting.
– Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act
Passed the House. STILL pending in the Senate while Americans are warned about financial surveillance and government overreach.
Now look at this insanity:
– H.R. 8469 → Passed House May 15, 2026 (400-15 vote). Pending in Senate.
– H.R. 8365 → Passed House May 14, 2026. Pending in Senate.
– H.R. 5625 → Passed House May 14, 2026. Pending in Senate.
– H.R. 6260 → Passed House May 14, 2026. Pending in Senate.
And that’s just THIS WEEK.
Meanwhile, there are ENTIRE batches of bills from:
– October 2025
– September 2025
– Summer 2025
that are now sitting:
– 200 days old
– 300 days old
– 400+ days old
with little to NO Senate movement.
Why?
Americans are sick and tired of hearing about:
– Senate procedure
– Filibuster excuses
– Internal negotiations
– “Timing concerns”
– Political calculations
The American people voted for RESULTS.
The House is passing bills.
President Trump is signing Executive Orders.
But Executive Orders are temporary.
Congress is supposed to CODIFY the MAGA agenda into LAW.
That means:
– Election integrity
– Border security
– Energy independence
– Anti-DEI protections
– Government accountability
– America First economic policies
– Anti-CBDC protections
– Immigration enforcement
ALL of it should be moving with urgency RIGHT NOW.
Instead, the Senate feels like a bottleneck.
And MAGA voters need to start asking hard questions.
Why are Republicans campaigning like fighters but governing like managers?
Why is there no wartime urgency when Democrats spent years aggressively pushing their agenda at full speed?
Why are Senate Republicans acting like they have unlimited time when President Trump’s legislative window is rapidly closing?
John Thune, people are watching.
This is your Senate now.
The excuses are running out.
MAGA needs to raise its voice NOW before this historic opportunity slips away into procedural paralysis and political cowardice.
Stop the speeches.
Stop the optics.
Start codifying the agenda.

Just The News: “A judge rejected arguments from lawyers defending Luigi Mangione, the man accused of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thomas, who said that a gun and notebook described as a “manifesto” were seized illegally.
The ruling will allow prosecutors to use the items in Mangione’s trial on nine state felony charges, including second-degree murder, NBC News reported.
Judge Gregory Carro ruled that prosecutors can not admit other items police found during a search of Mangione’s backpack when he was arrested at a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania in 2024. Carro said that these items were seized during an “improper warrantless search” and included a loaded magazine, a passport, computer chip and a wallet.
The other items, which includes a silencer, were found during a subsequent search of the backpack at Altoona police headquarters, which the judge ruled was a valid search.”

“IRAN: Declare Victory and Come Home!”
Michael T. Flynn LTG USA (RET), May 18, 2026
“The freedom fighters inside of Iran must step up to settle the internal situation themselves. That has become painfully obvious and more clear by the day. Whatever, however, and whomever influenced the decision to go back into Iran after the summer of 2025 “decimation” of Iran’s nuclear program during the “12 day war” is water under the bridge.
It is now high time for America to extract ourselves from this very messy situation. Below are three ideas and I’m certain all are being considered (but just in case). My objective for laying these out is because of my concern that U.S. prestige globally may further diminish and U.S. economic strength will eventually end up at a breaking point. Prestige and economic health are two conditions that all great empires found at risk toward the end.
For those not following me previously, I’ve addressed the rise and fall of empires and in the waning stages, there are certain indicators and warnings that, when unheeded, move nation states past that moment of return. It is tough to put one’s finger on it, but for those observers of history, they do exist and must be considered.
1. Declare victory based on achieved military objectives and transition to a formal, monitored, and regionally supported ceasefire with some type of phased sanctions relief based on conditions the Iranian regime meets.
2. Leverage multilateral diplomacy and regional alliances for a broader security framework, offloading the direct burden the U.S. is currently maintaining. May or may not fit, but serious consideration must be given to determining if the Abraham Accords can be applied as a foundational component of this framework.
3. Unilaterally de-escalate with clearly defined, observable, and credible red lines, matched by a sustained deterrence posture but stay just short of active combat. This is easier said than done.
Fact is, none of these are easy, all come with complications but the American people’s sentiment is turning and as the summer approaches, sustaining the current posture will only work against the administration’s desire to follow through on many of the things that matter to every day Americans (ie., the cost of everything).
I’ll develop my thinking further but for now, as we enter this important week of Memorial Day observances, I am compelled to remind myself of the difficulties and the consequences that WAR has on our nation. All said, a full extraction is complicated by Iran’s proxy networks, the ambiguous nature of their nuclear desires and their own uncertain internal political situation. Any deal requires observable and verifiable compliance to avoid charges of appeasement by the NEOCONs.
Prestige loss is minimized by speed, clear communication of what success looks like, and avoiding open-ended commitments. Economic self-interest (oil prices, global ripple effects, cost of everything) along with ally pressure favor swift resolution over any form of attrition warfare. The current but very fragile ceasefire provides an opportunity window but any delays risk further escalation along with higher costs.
Now is that moment to accept reality and find an exit. As I’ve said many times, you may not want war but war wants you and this current situation is precisely what I mean. Once you get sucked into the war vortex and those around you are saying we can win with just one more of this or a little more of that, are not facing the reality of the consequences of more war nor the sentiment of the American people. Neither of these are positive.
God Bless our Troops, especially those deployed in harm’s way.”

Mister Retrops, May 17, 2026
“An Amtrak train hit a car in northeast Harris County, Texas, injuring an older driver and a boy around 10 or 12 years old (thought to be father and son).
The car edged just past the lowered crossbars and paid no heed to the train’s horn. The train was traveling at 60 mph and struck them. It seems from the news report that the conductor later found the vehicle in some sort of body of water. Here’s the local authorities on Facebook:
Somehow, the pair survived that. However, according to ABC13,
Because, apparently, the sound of a train dragging a ton and a half of steel and fiberglass across the tracks sounds like a dinner bell to alligators.
When rescuers arrived, they were able to pull the man and boy from the car, who were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. No one on the train was injured in the crash.”

“Early voting in California is showing a surprising surge in Republican participation, with more than 900,000 ballots already returned ahead of the June 2 primary. GOP turnout is significantly higher than expected in the deep-blue state, raising hopes among Republicans that they could flip key races – including a real shot at the governor’s mansion. Steve Hilton, the Trump-endorsed candidate for governor, is seeing strong early support as frustration with Gavin Newsom’s policies continues to build.
Democrats are reportedly scrambling, with Newsom himself admitting he has a secret “break the glass” plan to try to block Republicans from advancing in the top-two primary.
This early Republican surge comes as California continues to suffer from high taxes, crime, homelessness, and businesses fleeing the state – issues many voters are clearly ready to punish Democrats over.
This is a big sign that even in California, Americans are waking up. Years of one-party Democrat rule have turned the Golden State into a cautionary tale of what happens when progressive policies go unchecked. If Republicans can keep this momentum, it could be a historic night in June.”

The man behind the wheel was critically injured after he allegedly blew a stop sign and drove onto train tracks Thursday in Chesapeake, according to preliminary findings shared by police. As the ill-fated truck carrying a massive silver septic tank traveled over the tracks around 4 p.m., it was T-boned by the oncoming locomotive, as seen in the video.
The truck spun out of control and knocked over a tree as murky-colored sewage spewed into the air. First responders rushed to the scene and took the male driver to the hospital. He was in stable condition as of Friday. Authorities have not released any further information about his identity. Police said the dramatic incident triggered a “minor hazmat situation,” but there was no immediate threat to the public.”

“Make Accountability Great Again”
Michael T. Flynn LTG USA (RET), May 18, 2026
Dear Todd Blanche,
“Addressing your question as to WHY. Why did the outgoing Barack Obama administration do what they did to me, President Donald J. Trump, our country, and many others whose lives were turned upside down? The short answer is because they could. The longer answer goes back to circa October 2008, then candidate Barack Obama gave a speech and during that speech he used the phrase … “We are five days away from FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMING America!”
All to say, once Barrack Hussein Obama was elected in 2008, he started in earnest to transform America into a Socialist/Marxist state instead of the constitutional republic we were designed to be (even though that hangs by a thread today, especially if no one is held accountable).
Enter Donald J. Trump circa 2015 (thank God) and he upset Obama’s long term plans. He and his initial team of warrior / patriots had to be stopped. Yes, the Russia-Gate hoax goes back to 2015. Once DJT won the GOP Primary, the fake Russia-Gate hoax began in earnest and here we are; it still goes on to this day.
The conspiracy to overthrow the presidency of these United States & put in place a very compromised candidate instead of one duly elected by we the people changed the course of their history. Their efforts to undermine Trump are still ongoing. You can hear and see it in the rhetoric from the various people directly involved, such as the likes of Jim Comey & John Brennan.
I’ve requested that 2026 be the year that we “Make Accountability Great Again.” I pray that we (you) are able to achieve some very visible levels of accountability because if not, I am seriously concerned about the future of our Republic.
I hope this answers your question, WHY.”

Just The News: “President Donald Trump said Monday that he had delayed a planned attack on Iran at the request of the Gulf States, citing what he called “serious negotiations.”
The U.S. and Israel have been at war with Iran since Feb. 28. While the U.S. and Iran are under a weeks-long ceasefire, the sides cannot agree to a peace agreement, with Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapon a major sticking point.
“I have been asked by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to hold off on our planned Military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow, in that serious negotiations are now taking place, and that, in their opinion, as Great Leaders and Allies, a Deal will be made, which will be very acceptable to the United States of America, as well as all Countries in the Middle East, and beyond,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116597121700043134
“This Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN! Based on my respect for the above mentioned Leaders, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, The Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Daniel Caine, and The United States Military, that we will NOT be doing the scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow, but have further instructed them to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached,” he added.
Trump previously backed off a threat to destroy Iranian civil infrastructure due to the advent of the ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan.
Trump has repeatedly fumed over Iran’s peace-negotiation tactics, asserting that divisions within the Tehran government had made it nearly impossible to reach an agreement with the country.
Despite the ongoing ceasefire, Iran and several Gulf States have traded strikes while fighting continues in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah.”

Just The News: “The San Diego Police Department confirmed Monday that the threat at an Islamic mosque has been “neutralized,” following reports of an active shooter at the California religious center. San Diego police chief Scott Wahl said five people were killed in the shooting, including two suspected shooters. The other three individuals were adults, but their identities have not been disclosed so far, according to NBC News.
The two suspected shooters allegedly died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds and are believed to be 17-years-old and 19-years-old, Wahl told reporters. One of the victims was a mosque security guard.
The police are urging the public to stay away from the scene while it investigates and no motive has been identified so far.
An imam at the center said teachers, students and other school staff members are safe. “There is no threat at this moment, but we want everyone to stay away from the Islamic Center of San Diego,” the imam said. “We are closed for the rest of the day. Stay safe, stay at home, and make a lot of prayers.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office said the governor has been briefed on the situation.
“We are grateful to the first responders on the scene working to protect the community and urge everyone to follow guidance from local authorities,” Newsom’s office said.”

“Data Center Built In Theodore Roosevelt’s Mustache”
U.S. · May 18, 2026 · BabylonBee.com
KEYSTONE, SD — In a historic victory for American infrastructure, the Department of the Interior announced the successful installation of a 50,000-square-foot data center within Mt. Rushmore that can be accessed through Teddy Roosevelt’s mustache.
Engineers confirmed the project was greenlit after tech companies realized the standard practice of building massive, water-cooled server farms on pasture land may have a negative impact on the surrounding environment. The experts argued that building the centers in the former president’s mustache offered natural, high-density geologic insulation perfectly suited for cooling AI clusters.
“Teddy would have loved this,” said project director Marcus Vance, standing near a fiber-optic cable snaking out of Roosevelt’s left nostril. “He was a visionary man, a man of action, and frankly, it takes a lot of processing power to stream 4K video. This place is the perfect natural environment for a data center.”
Environmentalists raised concerns about the heat generated by millions of graphic processing units humming behind the monument’s facade. However, federal officials noted that the slight, ambient steam rising from Roosevelt’s mustache only makes him look “authentically rugged and stately.”
At publishing time, tech support was dealing with a massive system crash after a nesting bald eagle accidentally disconnected a mainframe cable within Roosevelt’s mustache.
