When my children were young, on New Year’s Eve we would each make a resolution, and a prediction about what would happen in the New Year and place those in a sealed envelope. At the end of the year, we would open the envelope and see whose prediction came true and who kept up their resolution the longest. The older the kids got, the more savvy they got with their predictions (as in “I will break my resolution first” type of thing…lol) Oh, did I mention the $20 prize for the closest prediction?

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions.
New Year, same me—because I’m already fabulous.
I will try to remember where I left my keys at least once a week.
Master the art of parallel parking (or continue to avoid it).
Develop the ability to remember names, even if it’s just my own.

I will strive to say ‘no’ more often… unless it involves dessert.
I promise to keep up with the latest technology, even if I have to ask my granddaughter for help.
I will strive to eat more greens, even if they’re just the M&M kind.
I promise to stretch regularly, reaching for the snacks on the top shelf counts, right?
I’ll try to remember to take my vitamins, or at least convince myself that gummy bears are a suitable substitute.

I vow to embrace my inner child and jump in puddles whenever it rains – because adulting can be overrated.
Cheers to the new year!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I totally wanna know why these people NEED daycare if they’re on welfare.
Sunriver Patriot
January 1, 2026 12:31 am
This comes to $16,200 a year per child. A Somali with four children costs $64,800 just for daycare each year and 80% are on welfare which means they don’t have jobs?
“Minnesota receives hundreds of millions in federal dollars annually to support its Child Care Assistance Program, which subsidizes daycare for around 23,000 children from low-income families. In 2026, HHS was expected to kick in $218 million, while the state will kick in $155 million, according to state projections.”

I am reading that President Trump has just vetoed a bill to finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act which would finish a 130 mile pipeline to bring drinking water to 39 COLORADO communities.
It would help the towns to pay for the project by removing interest payments and extending the repayment period to 100 years.

Just The News: “Dozens of New Year’s revelers were killed and approximately 100 injured early Thursday morning when a fire raged through a bar in a popular ski resort in the Swiss Alps.
Authorities in Switzerland said they did not suspect terrorism but the cause of the fire at the Le Constellation bar at the Crans-Montana resort was still being investigated. “Several tens of people” were killed at the bar but “it is premature to give you a more precise figure,” Valais Canton police commander Frédéric Gisler told a news conference.
Beatrice Pilloud, Valais Canton attorney general, said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire but a terror attack was not suspected. “At no moment is there a question of any kind of attack,” Pilloud said, according to The Associated Press.”

Note that the legislature had to override the new Governor’s veto!!!
EXCERPT: “Only two sexes, boys or girls, will be recognized in all administrative rules, regulations and public policies for North Carolina starting Thursday. The Legislature by veto override of first-term Democratic Gov. Josh Stein established the law on July 29. Sections have previously been enacted, and the main piece happens with the start of the new calendar year. North Carolina is the 18th state to define and recognize only men and women.
Biological sex, the legislation says, will be determined by indication of “male and female in the context of reproductive potential or capacity, such as sex chromosomes, naturally occurring sex hormones, gonads, and nonambiguous internal and external genitalia present at birth, without regard to an individual’s psychological, chosen or subjective experience of gender.”
Prevent Sexual Exploitation/Women and Minors, as House Bill 805 is more formally known, is one of a dozen proposals that either in part or by section will be enacted this week. Sections 1 and 5 are being enacted.
The SCRIPT Act, as Senate Bill 479 is known, will provide more transparency in prescription drug costs. It also is designed to help protect independent pharmacies. The sections enacted will be 5.2, 5.3, 8 (a, c), and 12.
The 2025 State Investment Modernization Act.-AB, known also as House Bill 506, creates a five-member investment authority to assist the state treasurer manage return retirement fund investments. North Carolina has been one of only three states in the U.S. that had a “sole fiduciary” governance model for the pension funds that gave authority for investments to the treasurer alone.
The North Carolina Retirement Systems manages eight pension plans for more than 1 million people and distributes $640 million each month in benefit checks. The sections of the bill being enacted are 3.1-3.3, 4.2 and 5.1.

Just The News: “House Oversight Chairman James Comer extended an invitation Wednesday for Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz to testify in front of his committee about the fraud scandals that have engulfed his state.
The Small Business Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services both announced this week that it was pausing federal funding over allegations that the state allowed fraud schemes to infiltrate their publicly funded programs, such as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program and Medicaid, and steal millions of taxpayer dollars.
Walz acknowledged there has been fraud in his state, but said his administration has been cracking down on it for years. Comer said his committee will have a hearing on the fraud allegations next week, which will feature testimony from state officials who have sounded the alarm on and investigated fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs.
He additionally invited Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to testify in front of the panel at a separate hearing related to the fraud on Feb. 10. “Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison have either been asleep at the wheel or complicit in a massive fraud involving taxpayer dollars in Minnesota’s social services programs,” Comer said in a statement. “American taxpayers demand and deserve accountability for the theft of their hard-earned money.
“Congress has a duty to conduct rigorous oversight of this heist and enact stronger safeguards to prevent fraud in taxpayer-funded programs, as well as strong sanctions to hold offenders accountable,” he added.
The first hearing will take place on Jan. 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. Eastern and can be livestreamed here.”

Just The News: “The Justice Department is still reviewing 5.2 million documents as part of an expanded review of materials related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who associated with some of the world’s most powerful men before his 2019 suicide.
The expanded document review was reported Wednesday by the Associated Press, based on information from a person briefed on a related letter sent to U.S. attorneys.
The figure is the latest estimate in the expanding review of case files on Epstein and longtime girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. The department is already a week beyond the legal deadline set by Congress to turn over all of the documents. The department has over 400 attorneys assigned to the review but does not expect to release more documents until Jan. 20 or 21, the wire service also reports.
The size and scope of the documents suggest the case on Epstein, who was associated with such men as Prince Andrew, former President Clinton and President Trump, will remain a significant issue for Congress and the White House at least until late 2026.”

Just The News: “President Donald Trump unexpectedly auctioned off a painting late Wednesday night at a New Year’s Eve party in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The painting, which was done by a speed painter at the event, was of Jesus and was sold for $2.75 million. Half of the proceeds will go to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, while the other half will go to the local sheriff’s office.
The president himself bid $100,000 for the painting. It was not immediately clear who made the winning bid. The auction took place at Trump’s resort in West Palm Beach, where the president is remaining for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
You can watch the whole event, including Trump’s comments, the speed painter in action, and the auction, here.”

“The 10 Most Popular Waste Investigations of 2025.”
OpenTheBooks, Jan 01, 2026
EXCERPT: “Open the Books had a remarkable year of change and growth in 2025
Our investigations and thought leadership made an impact, starting in January by proposing America’s Checkbook: the ability for taxpayers to view the Treasury Payment System in real time, just like they can their own bank accounts. After all, it’s our money! Soon after, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced the Make DOGE Permanent Act, which would allow members of Congress to view realt-time payments larger than $25,000. Enacting it would be the most significant federal transparency upgrade in a generation.
We closed the year with results, too. After years of investigating the size, scope, cost and secrecy of the administrative state through “Mapping the Swamp” reports, Senator Joni Ernst has introduced legislation to bring transparency to the federal workforce. The Where’s WALDO Act, named for the popular children’s books, would require the feds to create a public website that documents each civilian employee’s title, job description start date, primary work location, compensation and bonuses. Bureaucratic hide-and-seek is over if Senator Ernst’s bill becomes law!
Image Credit: Office of Senator Ernst, December 2025.
But one thing remained the same in 2025: government kept wasting tax dollars at every level from federal to local! Our investigators uncovered more than silly, wasteful, or ideologically extreme examples; they also uncovered systemic misspending from improper payments, rich contracts for allies, fraud and abuse.
The following were the ten most-read stories and investigations last year, along with the one we think will be most impactful in 2026. The results demonstrate that Americans care about more than just federal spending. They portend a major opportunity to expand the DOGE movement to states across the country, whose leaders can learn their own lessons from Washington’s attempts at reform.
Open the Books is the only organization whose database has the depth and breadth to bring it to fruition. We’ll continue the transparency movement all the way to the local level in 2026 and beyond!…..”

“It’s Not Just Minnesota. The Vast Majority Of Daycare Is A Scam — Taxpayers have spent hundreds of billions more on completely ineffective daycare than even Somalis have been able to pilfer.”
The Federalist, By: Joy Pullmann, January 01, 2026
EXCERPT: “The Trump administration announced it is pausing all child-care payments to Minnesota in light of explosive revelations about Somali-saturated fraud rings siphoning billions from federal welfare programs. State officials in Ohio, where the second-largest Somali population resides in the United States, are begging for a federal fraud investigation there.
Viral videos of YouTuber Nick Shirley visiting childless “day care centers” in Minnesota expose that Democrats’ two-century practice of buying votes with welfare has now degraded below even offering a functioning cover story. To no thinking person’s surprise, the investigation reveals Democrats’ “affordable childcare” quest seeks the same as every other welfare program: kickbacks for the Democrat political machine. This is a major reason the Founders made federal welfare programs unconstitutional.
As shocking as the estimated $9 billion theft in Minnesota is, it rests upon an even deeper level of scammery. For if it is fraud to take taxpayer money for childcare while not providing it, isn’t it also fraud to take taxpayer money for early childhood development that actually damages early childhood development?
The truth is, “affordable childcare” is itself a scam. The billions spent on daycare result in worse outcomes for society than if these programs never existed. Industry researchers have known and lied about this for decades. Yes, that makes them frauds, too, and their mark — is there any other mark on the planet? — the endlessly spigoted American taxpayers.$240 Billion for Zero Benefits
Americans have been inundated with preschool and daycare propaganda for an entire lifetime, all to serve the scam that is government displacement of families. We’ve been sold the endless growth of family-displacing welfare programs as good for children and society. Well, they are not good for children or society.
“Affordable childcare” has been a Democrat campaign demand much longer than the Clintons’ infamous “it takes a village” efforts in the ’90s. The notoriously ineffective Head Start federal preschool program was a key part of Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society scam that, as Christopher Caldwell detailed so well, traded the rest of Americans’ constitutional ways of life for bankrupting welfare hush money.
From 1965, when it began, to 2020, Head Start has cost American taxpayers $240 billion, according to a Heritage Foundation report. The program sold as an educational boost for America’s poorest children has done nothing in 60 years to improve education outcomes for those children, according to federal evaluators. Yet it currently gets $9 billion in taxpayer funds per year. Pretty scammy!
As a poignant indicator of what a waste early childhood subsidies are, even The Atlantic noticed in 2015 a National Bureau of Economic Research study that found watching Sesame Street was just as effective as attending Head Start — which is to say, it slightly improved school “readiness” with no lasting effects. A big difference, of course, is that Head Start costs taxpayers an average of $10,000 per kid per year, while Sesame Street is capable of much cheaper and fully tax-deductible private funding…..”

General Flynn’s Substack – Official
Breaking: The CCP is destroying America from within—when will it end!? They don’t need to invade America. They’re already inside. For decades, the Chinese Communist Party has been executing a quiet, deliberate campaign of unrestricted warfare against the United States, not with bombs or bullets, but with land, money, and influence.
Control the land and you pressure food supply and territorial security. Control the companies and you gain leverage over the economy. Control education and you shape the next generation of American leaders.
Now it reaches directly into the minds of our children. This is a long-term strategy to weaken our nation from within while we argue and look away.
The response must be clear, uncompromising, and it must happen NOW.”

“The Miccosukee Reserved Area Amendments Act would have added the Osceola Camp, a small village of members of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, to the reservation in the Everglades. It would have also taken steps to protect the camp from flooding risks. Currently, the land is a special-use permitted area in Everglades National Park.
In the veto, Trump said the tribe “has actively sought to obstruct reasonable immigration policies that the American people decisively voted for when I was elected.” The tribe is a plaintiff in a suit against the federal government and the state of Florida, arguing the state failed to conduct an environmental review on the land where Alligator Alcatraz is located. An environmental study is required to comply with federal laws.
The Osceola Camp is nothing more than a small, out of the way tourist trap that contributes nothing to region, has unlimited tax-free status, and, to be realistic, is a bit of a shithole. The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida owns a casino and is far from poor by any definition. Payback’s a bitch, wouldn’tcha say, Tonto?”
