What Shall We Bake Today?

I was so intrigued when I saw this picture, I just had to see the recipe!  It seemed easy enough, although I have not attempted it myself yet.  (I will update if I do by post time.)

Shamrock Pound Cake

Ingredients

2 packages (16 ounces each) pound cake mix

10 drops green food coloring

1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

GLAZE:

1 cup confectioners’ sugar

1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract

3 to 5 teaspoons 2% milk

Directions

Preheat oven according to package directions. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan. Prepare one package cake mix according to package directions, adding food coloring and extract before mixing batter. Transfer to prepared pan. Bake and cool as package directs.

Cut cooled cake into 1-in.-thick slices. Cut slices with a 2-1/2-in. shamrock-shaped cookie cutter (save remaining cake for another use). Stand shamrock slices at an angle in a greased 9×5-in. loaf pan.

Prepare remaining cake mix according to package directions. Pour batter around and over shamrock slices. Bake and cool as package directs.

For glaze, in a small bowl, mix confectioners’ sugar, extract and enough milk to reach desired consistency. Pour glaze over cake, allowing some to flow over sides.

A few years ago Sally had a gunky runny nose that we thought was a cold, URI, sinus infection and she went through FIVE rounds of antibiotics!

Turns out it was a cracked infected tooth – that somehow she couldn’t feel. When the tooth was extracted – the gunky crud stopped right away!

  2. Good Morning, Pat and Filly!

Love the Shamrock ☘️ Cake – how clever! What a surprise for folks blessed to be there when it’s cut and served!

Love St. Patrick’s Day. Did you know St. Patrick was English, but was captured and taken to Ireland where he was enslaved? He escaped, returned home, was converted to Christianity and returned to Ireland to evangelize the heathens who enslaved him. Later, the Irish saved the Bible and early Christian documents from the invading hordes of Moslems, by hiding them in their rugged Irish Island Monasteries.

    Here’s some 🍀 ☘️🍀 ☘️ Irish Wisdom for today:

I’m only part Irish (also French, German, English, etc.) – or as I love to say – Fightin’ Irish – and I want to be more Irish in that regard.

Always wanted to be part Scottish too – and have a plaid named for my family clan. No such luck. So far, I haven’t found any Irish names like O’Malley or Scot names like McTavish or Stewart in my family genealogy.

I thought it was a clever idea! I have a present (topped with a bow even) shaped cookie cutter. I think that would be cute for a Christmas party! it’s got a flat bottom too so it will sit nicely on the bottom while i pour the batter around it too. a heart might not work out.
i believe the open on the 17th contains some st patty’s day trivia too!

  3. I did not get to try this cake btw. my shamrock cookie cutter is the flatter version with a handle not the handle-less kind. so i was skeptical i would be able to cut out the inch slices. However, I am keeping the process in mind for another holiday because i do have handle-less cutters in other shapes. and I might tint the cut out part with chocolate!

  4. yellen plays word games. she said with the new auditors we would not see an increase in audits under $400,000. what she didn’t reveal at first–90% of audits ARE on taxpayers making LESS then $400,000. word games!
    FTA
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has said that the majority of IRS audits fall on people/businesses below $400,000.

So Smith asked what are they talking about when they’re talking about “will not see an increase” — did she mean the total number of new IRS audits or a proportionate number based on historic levels?

“I’m talking about the proportion of those small businesses and families,” Yellen responded.

“Okay. So the proportion, I mean, just for the record, the proportion is 90%,” said Smith, referencing the GAO report. “So 90% of the new audits will be, you know, according to the data, that we can expect up to 90% of new audits to be on those making less than $400,000.”

Oh, so they were playing word games with us. They’re still going to have 90 percent of the new audits falling on us. What weasels. Not that we didn’t know that Joe was lying, but they are such slimy liars, particularly playing these word games.

As I wrote previously, SVB cancelled our healthcare company account while we were in jail saying we didn’t “meet their lofty standards.”

They did however continue to cash checks sent by our customers to our lockbox for deposit. This is fraud.

Just last week they cashed an $11,000 check from a customer. This is fraud.

As we dig into it further, it appears the check was actually cashed by Mellon Bank. This is fraud.

Honestly, we are now wondering about the SVB connections to China

There hasn’t seemed to be as much mention in the media of the Americans who were kidnapped in Mexico with two of them being killed as I thought there would be.

What makes me especially suspicious was that there hasn’t been any pictures of them in the media (that I’ve seen).

Today, I found the following article which states:

“There is also some speculation that the Americans were in Matamoros on criminal business as at least three of them – Woodard, Brown and McGee – have criminal records for drug-related crimes.”

And I don’t think they look like the type that was going there for “a tummy tuck”.

The president also, from time to time, has brought his children and grandchildren along with him on official travel. Such is the case this week as President Biden jets off to San Diego, California, to join Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom to finalize the AUKUS partnership and participate in a DNC reception.

On this trip, Biden brought along his granddaughter Natalie Biden, the eldest daughter of the president’s late son Beau. This we learned during a gaggle held by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre aboard Air Force One on the way from Washington to San Diego.

When asked why Natalie was tagging along, Jean-Pierre noted that “as you know, the president’s family tends to travel with him, pretty often, so that’s not uncommon” before explaining “Natalie is on spring break and so she joined her- she wanted to spend time with her ‘Pop,’ so she joined her ‘Pop’ on this trip.”

How nice for Natalie to have a spring break trip to San Diego aboard Air Force One. But that raised a follow-up question: When members of Biden’s extended family accompany him on official travel, does the president or a member of his family reimburse the federal government — taxpayers, that is — for his family members’ travel expenses?

“That’s a good question,” Jean-Pierre responded. She did not, however, have a good answer.
    Recommended

“I would have to look into how it works for members of the president’s family, I actually don’t know,” Jean-Pierre said. “I actually don’t know how that works,” she added.

    — Townhall.com (@townhallcom) March 13, 2023

So, Biden’s granddaughter flew on Air Force One and is traveling with the president to and from San Diego, official events, and a DNC fundraiser, and Karine Jean-Pierre doesn’t know whether Natalie’s cross-country spring break trip is being paid for by taxpayers who’ve been crushed by inflation and are having to slim down their own vacation plans?

There’s been much ado about incumbent presidents of both parties using Air Force One for campaign trips, or, as Biden is doing on Monday, pairing official travel with a partisan reception to defray unofficial travel costs. Campaigns are supposed to reimburse taxpayers for unofficial travel aboard Air Force One, but the formula used by the Treasury Department to determine whether or how much of a trip is “official” and how much needs to be reimbursed is not public. What’s more, reporters who travel aboard Air Force One while covering the president pay for their travel.

As for Natalie, precedent suggests that taxpayers should be reimbursed by the president for personal travel by family members on Air Force One at a “first-class rate,” according to an IRS ruling from the Nixon era.

Natalie Biden, apparently not participating in the trip in an official capacity nor a campaign capacity, seems like she would fall under that ruling and should see Biden reimburse taxpayers for her seat at a first-class rate. But is Biden doing so? His press secretary doesn’t know — even though, as Jean-Pierre pointed out, “the president’s family tends to travel with him pretty often.” So, Biden’s family is flying with him “pretty often,” yet she can’t say whether taxpayers are being reimbursed or are footing the bill for Biden family vacations.

Since Karine Jean-Pierre doesn’t know “how that works,” Americans are left to wonder until she figures it out.

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “This is the former adviser to Zelensky, Alexey Arestovich, who quit in protest. He has publicly stated that “The west deceived Russia. They promised not to push NATO to the east, and they did. They turned Ukraine into a huge anti-Russian country. If I was in Russia’s shoes, I would have done the exact same thing.”

The West’s Neocons have exploited Ukraine to wage war against Russia, for the sole reason they hated Russia, and even with the fall of the USSR, they have never changed their views. They tried to stop Reagan from meeting Gorbachev. I found myself back in 1999 to seize control of Russia by having the bankers, led by Edmond Safra, blackmail Yeltsin to step down and hand Russia to the boy, Boris Berezovsky. They tried to get me to invest $10 billion into their Hermitage Capital Management. When I refused, even Boris tried to call me to persuade me to contribute to their cause. When I refused, Edmond stole $1 billion I had on deposit at his bank and the NY press supported the Neocons, as always.

Ironically, they began their manipulation of Ukraine in 2014. It was the Neocons, not the CIA with this plot. John McCain was there meeting even with the Neo-Nazis in public and promising the crowd that America will stand with them if they overthrow their government – Regime Change has always been their agenda. It has NEVER worked out even once – Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Cuba, and Ukraine just to mention a few.”

  12. “Woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann submits DNA test”
    By News.com.au
    March 13, 2023 10:52am Updated

EXCERPT: “A Polish woman who believes she could be Madeleine McCann has submitted samples for forensic testing to determine if she is the missing Brit. Julia Faustyna, who also goes by Julia Wendell, has been claiming on Instagram and TikTok that she may be the child – who disappeared from a family holiday in Portugal in 2007 – due to similarities in their age and appearance.

She has amassed tens of thousands of followers on both platforms as a result, posting under the handle @iammadeleinemccann. The 21-year-old has submitted samples for three different forensic examinations that will outline her DNA sequence, along with a 23andMe-style genetic test to establish her ancestry, private investigator Dr. Fia Johansson told RadarOnline.com. “If the results come back that she’s British or from that area then we are going to continue our investigation into Madeleine McCann and communicate with the detectives in Portugal,” said Dr. Johansson, who relocated Wendell from Poland to a safe house in the United States after a series of death threats.

(Julia Wendell submitted samples for three different forensic examinations that will outline her DNA sequence. Instagram/@iammadeleinemccan)

“We have a lot of evidence right now that shows Julia was definitely trafficked to Poland from another country by an international sex trafficking group.” “We are still conducting an investigation but Julia is definitely not the biological daughter of her parents in Poland.” If Wendell’s ancestry comes from the same region as Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, Dr. Johansson said she will immediately send the DNA sequence to Portuguese investigators for comparison.”

Julia Wendell – who has said she does not “remember most of my childhood” – previously said that Madeleine’s parents have agreed to a DNA test. She claims that details of her childhood don’t add up, leading her to believe that she was abducted as a toddler, and that she has a spot in her right eye and a beauty mark on her cheek similar to Madeleine.

Earlier this month, however, Pawel Noga from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wroclaw told Polish news outlet Gazeta that authorities have “ruled out” Wendell’s version of events to be “true”, according to an English translation of the outlet’s report.”

they were instructed to a numbered line and when it was their turn they were instructed to leave the keys inside the car and to remove any belongings they needed for the ride itself. then a magnet number was placed on their vehicle, same number was written in pencil on their ticket and they were told to go on the train and find seats.
There were no screenings of the vehicle or any of their baggage. They were not required to show identification either.
she said if they wanted, they could have brought knives, guns, alcohol or drugs on board and no one would have known. they could have been trafficking children, no one would have known.

“California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) welcomed the federal government’s intervention Sunday to protect depositors at the failed Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) — but failed to mention that he has been its client.
    As the left-wing Intercept notes:

The White House “acted swiftly and decisively to protect the American economy and strengthen public confidence in our banking system,” Newsom said in a statement. What Newsom didn’t mention is that it also protected his own companies if they held over $250,000 in deposits.

CADE, Odette, and PlumpJack, three wineries owned by Newsom, are listed as clients of SVB on the bank’s website. Newsom also maintained personal accounts at SVB for years, according to a longtime former employee of Newsom’s who handled his finances, and who requested anonymity to avoid professional reprisal.

Newsom also didn’t mention his wife Jennifer Siebel’s professional ties to the bank. In 2021, Silicon Valley Bank gave $100,000 to the charity founded by Siebel, the California Partners Project, at the request of Newsom. John China, president of SVB Capital and responsible for SVB’s funds management, is himself a founding member of the California Partners Project’s board of directors.”

  18. more freaking waste of taxpayers’ monies…ECOGRIEF training…WTH????
    entire article
The House Natural Resources Committee demanded answers Tuesday from the Fish and Wildlife Service over its ecogrief training for employees and warned a full investigation could ensue unless the agency cancels the course and uses the money for more important priorities like saving endangered animals.

Chairman Bruce Westerman led committee Republicans in denouncing the training as “extremely tone deaf” at a time when FWS is struggling to calibrate its mission of habitat and species conservation.

“We are deeply concerned that this kind of meaningless pandering is a colossal waste of taxpayer funding, does nothing to further the purpose of the USFWS and diverts important resources away from critical agency functions,” Mr. Westerman and the other lawmakers wrote to the agency.

The letter was first obtained exclusively by The Washington Times, which revealed the ecogrief training last month.

The agency begged employees to sign up for the class, saying it would offer them a chance to work through feelings of stress or despair at the changing environment, particularly climate change.

“The ever-changing challenges impacting our conservation work, our neighbors and the communities we live, work and recreate in including droughts, wildland fires, declines or loss of species, declining habitat and impacts to public outdoor recreation add up,” organizer Katherine Hill said in her email to employees last week ahead of one round of training in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

To Mr. Westerman, an Arkansas Republican, it sounded like bunk.

“We and many of our constituents are appalled to see our tax dollars funding ‘ecogrief’ workshops instead of science-based, environmentally sound policies,” he and his colleagues said in a letter to FWS Director Martha Williams.

They demanded documents and emails detailing why the agency decided to offer the training, including who gave the go-ahead. They also asked about the cost and where in FWS’ budget the money was coming from.

“The USFWS should immediately divert the funding for these workshops to activities that further the mission of the agency, like habitat conservation and species recovery,” the lawmakers wrote. “Anything beyond this goal will prompt swift oversight from the Republican House majority.”

A Times email Tuesday to Ms. Hill, the training organizer, was not immediately returned.

Ecogrief is part of a family of new terms to describe distress. It’s also been labeled climate grief or ecoanxiety.

The American Psychological Association says it can manifest as a sense of being overwhelmed by the immensity of changes to the environment, or even a sense of anticipated loss — essentially mourning what someone believes to be inevitable, particularly with climate change.

The APA, in a 2020 article, acknowledged that “not much is known about climate grief” and said there were no clinical studies on how to treat it.

FWS’ current ecogrief training is being offered to employees in the Southwest, with one session last week and another scheduled for early April.

As of the middle of last week, 10 of the 35 seats for Friday’s session were still unfilled.

The agency told The Times that each session costs $4,000.

The course was previously offered in FWS’ Alaska and Southeast regions.

An FWS official said the class was being offered in response to “a request from employees,” but was unable to share any reaction from participants in those earlier sessions.

FWS employees have told The Times the ecogrief training is part of a broader push for a woke agenda.

They said a growing focus of the agency — and its budget — is conducting diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility training, or what practitioners call DEIA.

That includes sessions pushing employees to talk about their gender identity and preferred pronouns, and to confront social injustice ingrained in the culture.

One 2021 document warned against microaggressions and recommended use of the term Latinx to refer to people with roots in Latin America. It also urged employees to avoid terms like ecosystems and urban sprawl, substituting terms such as natural areas or poorly planned growth.

The agency is also in the middle of what it calls a Values Journey, with Values Jam sessions designed to get input about where FWS is headed in its “purpose, values and associated behaviors.”

“We must show our commitment by supporting employees’ leadership and participation in groups, initiatives and activities that support advancing DEIA and create welcoming workplaces,” Ms. Williams, the FWS director, said in a memo to employees.
