The First Thanksgiving Feast

(I went in search of what the Pilgrims ate at the first Thanksgiving and came across this article by Mark Fleming at the newengland.com website.)

The Thanksgiving meal is remarkably consistent in its elements: the turkey, the stuffing, the sweet potatoes, the cranberry sauce. Barring ethical, health, or religious objections, it is pretty much the same meal for everyone, around the country, and through the years of their lives. We stick with the basics and simply change the seasonings.

But what about that first Thanksgiving in the fall of 1621 (historians don’t know the exact date, but place it sometime between September 21 and November 9), when British settlers hosted the first documented harvest celebration? What did they eat at the first Thanksgiving, and how similar is it to the traditional American Thanksgiving meal today?

Here’s how Edward Winslow described the first Thanksgiving feast in a letter to a friend:

“Our harvest being gotten in, our governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a special manner rejoice together after we had gathered the fruits of our labor. They four in one day killed as much fowl as, with a little help beside, served the company almost a week. At which time, amongst other recreations, we exercised our arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and among the rest their greatest king Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted, and they went out and killed five deer, which we brought to the plantation and bestowed on our governor, and upon the captain and others. And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want that we often wish you partakers of our plenty.”

What They (Likely) Did Have at the First Thanksgiving

  • Venison
  • Fowl (geese and duck)
  • Corn
  • Nuts (walnuts, chestnuts, beechnuts)
  • Shellfish

So venison was a major ingredient, as well as fowl, but that likely included geese and ducks. Turkeys are a possibility, but were not a common food in that time. Pilgrims grew onions and herbs. Cranberries and currants would have been growing wild in the area, and watercress may have still been available if the hard frosts had held off, but there’s no record of them having been served. In fact, the meal was probably quite meat-heavy.

Likewise, walnuts, chestnuts, and beechnuts were abundant, as were sunchokes. Shellfish were common, so they probably played a part, as did beans, pumpkins, squashes, and corn (served in the form of bread or porridge), thanks to the Wampanoags.

It’s possible, but unlikely, that there was turkey at the first Thanksgiving.

What They (Definitely) Did Not Have at the First Thanksgiving

  • A turkey centerpiece
  • Potatoes (white or sweet)
  • Bread stuffing or pie (wheat flour was rare)
  • Sugar
  • Aunt Lena’s green bean casserole

But how about bringing a little more truly traditional flavor back to your table? Back in 2003, we consulted with historians at Plimoth Plantation, the Wampanoag and English settlers living history museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and asked writer Jane Walsh to devise a menu that incorporated some of the foods that would have been served at the first Thanksgiving. We didn’t eliminate any favorites or try to go sugar-free. We skipped the venison. Really, like everyone else who will gather around a table on the fourth Thursday in November this year, we simply changed the seasonings.

Historically-Inspired Thanksgiving Recipes

The Wampanoag and English settlers may not have had access to all of the ingredients included in these recipes, but by including pheasant, goose, or venison in your Thanksgiving menu, you’re at least paying tribute to a meat they likely enjoyed back in 1621. Chestnuts and native corn were common, too. Here are a few dishes to get you further inspired — both reader-submitted and from the Yankee recipe archives.

    1. Good morning! 22 here – windy all night but no more snow, thankfully. I saw some small paw prints in the snow that hasn’t yet melted on the front porch so I put some food out for LM. My Mom always insists on a duck for Thanksgiving – waaaay too greasy for me – and she says turkey is too dry for her. Unless Michael’s ex, Lori, issues an invite to me again this year, I won’t be going anywhere or eating turkey or duck! I hope she doesn’t try to do so much, considering she is back on regular 3 week chemo treatments. But, knowing her, I expect she will – that is one tough lady, let me tell you, and no bigger than me!

Imagine having the chance to work for anyone on that historical list – but you quit because they hurt your little feelings and challenged you to dig deep and work harder? Talk about a shallow narcissist who doesn’t have a clue.

There’s millions of people who would kill to have this once in a lifetime opportunity. I hope Elon gives it to people who deserve it, and gets rid of all these ridiculous, sniveling brat, entitled children, who don’t understand just how lucky they were.

BREAKING: Cochise County BOS just motioned to table the certification of the election until November 28th, when they expect to review all evidence of the proof of legal certification by the accredited Election Assistance Commission labs to use the tabulation machines. This now establishes precedent to do the same in other counties now that Cochise County is validating their results. Arizona cannot certify any election results until all counties have rendered certified results.

The D.A. case against two small Trump entities has fallen apart. Even the Media is saying so. There has never been a “Fringe Benefits” case such as this brought before. Did a long time executive pay tax on the use of a company car, or a company apartment, or payments (not even taken by us as a tax deduction!) for the education of his grandchildren? For this, he gets handcuffs and jail? The highly paid accounting firm should have routinely picked these things up – we relied on them. VERY UNFAIR!

…Many people, perhaps most, don’t pay tax on the use of a company car or company apartment. Whether they know or not, that’s just the way it is. It’s called “standards and practices,” referring, I presume, to the standards and practices of large numbers of people within the Country. Out of fairness, it has a legal meaning. It should be a point in the Manhattan D.A. case. Did the former D.A. Pay tax on the use of his car? In the meantime, Violent Crime in New York has reached an ALL TIME HIGH!

Interestingly, certain aircraft with spy capabilities are still doing man in the middle runs above Maricopa, according to the latest Monkeywerx sitrep. Maybe it’s good guys for once?

Sad, but good idea. Unfortunately the McFailure leadership enjoys their places at the trough.

Everyone must understand+internalize this. Ballot harvesting means elections are no longer about persuasion. It’s a 4-6 week window to bank the most ballots from the least motivated. To gain enough power to end this abomination you must first beat the Democrats at their own game. https://t.co/A82orJuaQA

  9. Entire Article: “STOCKHOLM, Nov 18 (Reuters) – Investigators have found traces of explosives at the site of the damaged Nord Stream gas pipelines, confirming sabotage had taken place, a Swedish prosecutor said on Friday.

Swedish and Danish authorities are investigating four holes in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines which link Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea and have become a flashpoint in the Ukraine crisis as gas supplies in Europe run short. Denmark last month said a preliminary investigation had shown that the leaks were caused by powerful explosions.

“Analysis that has now been carried out shows traces of explosives on several of the objects that were recovered,” the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement, adding that the findings establish the incident as “gross sabotage”.

It said the continued probe would determine whether it would be possible to identify those responsible. Cooperation with authorities in Sweden as well as in other countries was going very well, lead prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist said. The prosecutor’s office declined to give further comment, including on which explosives were believed to have been used to damage the pipelines.

Russia will wait until a full damage assessment is done before deciding on repairs, if any, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday. “The very fact that data has already begun to come in, in favour of confirming a subversive act or a terrorist act… once again confirms the information that the Russian side has,” Peskov told his daily call with reporters. It is very important not to stop, it is very important to find the one behind this explosion.”

Neither Gazprom (GAZP.MM), nor the Nord Stream 1 and 2 replied to Reuters requests for comment. Seismologists in Denmark and Sweden previously said they had registered tremors in the immediate vicinity of the leaks and that the signals did not resemble those from earthquakes. Danish police declined to comment on the Swedish findings.

The Sept. 26 ruptures of the seabed pipelines, spewing gas into the ocean that bubbled to the surface in the week that followed, triggered warnings of public hazard and fears of environmental damage. A section measuring at least 50 metres (164 feet) is missing from Nord Stream 1, Swedish daily Expressen reported on Oct. 18 after filming what it said were the first publicly released images of the damage.

Russia’s defence ministry last month said that British navy personnel blew up the pipelines, a claim that London said was false and designed to distract from Russian military failures in Ukraine.”

New Twitter owner Elon Musk confirmed the reinstatements in a tweet and added that the company hasn’t yet decided whether former president and 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump will be reinstated.

The Babylon Bee and Peterson were locked out of their Twitter accounts under former CEO Jack Dorsey’s tenure. Trump was permanently banned under Dorsey’s tenure. Griffin was banned after Musk took the reigns.

Trump was banned on January 8, 2021 after sending two tweets. One of these tweets thanked the 75 million Americans who voted for him and the other announced that he would not be attending the January 20, 2021 inauguration of current President Joe Biden.

Before buying Twitter, Musk said that he thinks “timeouts” are “better than permanent bans.” These three account restorations are the first reinstatements of Musk’s tenure. Under the previous regime, countless accounts were banned, suspended, or censored. While Musk has reinstated these accounts, he subsequently told one user “no” when they asked him to reinstate the account of Infowars founder and host Alex Jones.

  12. ultra maggot’s ass general (nope, not a misspelling of att) wants to try to find criminal charges…
    FTA
Let me translate: With Trump having thrown his hat into the ring, there is nothing we won’t do to stop him, including using the entire power of the federal government to paint him as a criminal. Because Trump is the most investigated person in America (who consistently emerges clean as a whistle), Garland’s going back to the old standbys, namely, the Mar-a-Lago raid and January 6. A few points need to be made.

    1. Even if the Biden administration does phony up an indictment against Trump, that won’t stop him from running. The Constitution is clear that there are only three requirements to be president: Be 35 or older, be a “natural born” American citizen, and have been a resident in the U.S. for 14 years at the time of election. Trump meets those metrics.

    2. With regard to the raid, the U.S. President’s plenary power over classifying documents means that Trump, simply by removing the documents from the White House, declassified them. The DOJ cannot override that.

In any event, just the other day, the Washington Post quietly and reluctantly conceded in an article meant to disparage Trump’s ego a fact that we sane people knew all along: Trump had no national security documents (although, again, if he had them, they were automatically declassified).

    3. January 6 is a well the left keeps going back to, but it’s been dry from the beginning. Trump wanted more security in D.C., but Pelosi refused. Trump told people only to exercise their First Amendment rights and to do so “peacefully and patriotically.” That is, Trump did nothing to foment criminal activity.

More importantly, we know that, thanks to people such as Ray Epps, many attendees at the rally were already induced to head to the Capitol even as Trump was still speaking. In the same vein, there’s footage showing people in whom the FBI mysteriously has no interest systematically removing all barriers and signage that would have alerted the crowd that they were in a prohibited area. Add to this the fact that we’ve learned that the FBI had agents and informers all over the place on January 6 and the word “entrapment” is the first thing that comes to mind.

Put another way: January 6 wasn’t criminal activity on Trump’s part, but it might have been criminal activity on the government’s part.

They’ve got nothing on Trump, and they’ve never had anything on Trump—but the Biden administration is determined to use the process to destroy Trump. They’re fools because Trump has emerged stronger from every attack, and I’m betting he will this time too.

  13. EXCERPT: “A series of revealing texts and tweets by Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced CEO of FTX, the once high-flying but now belly-up crypto exchange, had the following to say about his image as a do-gooder: it is a “dumb game we woke westerners play where we say all the right shibboleths and so everyone likes us.”

Very interesting. He had the whole game going: a vegan worried about climate change, supports every manner of justice (racial, social, environmental) except that which is coming for him, and shells out millions to worthy charities associated with the left. He also bought plenty of access and protection in D.C., enough to make his shady company the toast of the town.

As part of the mix, there is this thing called pandemic planning. We should know what that is by now: it means you can’t be in charge of your life because there are bad viruses out there. As bizarre as it seems, and for reasons that are still not entirely clear, favoring lockdowns, masks, and vaccine passports became part of the woke ideological stew.

This is particularly strange because covid restrictions have been proven, over and over, to harm all the groups about whom woke ideology claims to care so deeply. That includes even animal rights: who can forget the Danish mink slaughter of 2020?

Regardless, it’s just true. Masking became a symbol of being a good person, same as vaccinating, veganism, and flying into fits at the drop of a hat over climate change. None of this has much if anything to do with science or reality. It’s all tribal symbolism in the name of group political solidarity. And FTX was pretty good at it, throwing around hundreds of millions to prove the company’s loyalty to all the right causes.

Among them included the pandemic-planning racket. That’s right: there were deep connections between FTX and Covid that have been cultivated for two years. Let’s have a look.

Earlier this year, the New York Times trumpeted a study that showed no benefit at all to the use of Ivermectin. It was supposed to be definitive. The study was funded by FTX. Why? Why was a crypto exchange so interested in the debunking of repurposed drugs in order to drive governments and people into the use of patented pharmaceuticals, even those like Remdesivir that didn’t actually work? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Regardless, the study and especially the conclusions turned out to be bogus. David Henderson and Charles Hooper further point out an interesting fact: “Some of the researchers involved in the TOGETHER trial had performed paid services for Pfizer, Merck, Regeneron, and AstraZeneca, all companies involved in developing COVID-19 therapeutics and vaccines that nominally compete with ivermectin.”

    JD Rucker

“As anyone who’s followed my writing or shows the last couple of years knows, I’m not one who peddles false hope. I don’t get worked up about “trusting the plan” or believing that we’re on the verge of a major arrest against the Deep State, Hillary Clinton, Hunter Biden, or anyone on the left. I’m skeptical about any “conservative” or alternative media reports that amazing things are just around the corner or the walls are closing in on the bad guys.

I’ve also been hesitant to report on any hopeful news about reversing stolen elections or at least holding people accountable for stealing them. That doesn’t jibe with my ongoing fight to try to make those things happen; call me a masochist for continuing to fight for something that I believe is usually futile. But as a United States citizen I am sworn to defend the Constitution and there have been few greater crimes against this nation than the last two stolen elections. So I fight even if I don’t have much hope.

I was not one who “moved on” nor will I ever be until the truth is revealed. [NF: This is exactly where I stand! WE CANNOT MOVE FORWARD UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!!!]

The last couple of days have brought me the brightest glimmer of hope I’ve had in two years when it comes to stolen elections. After talking to many people involved with campaigns in four states, I can tell you that there really is a chance we can have movement on this issue. Arizona is the best one in play, in which I’d give about a 20%-30% chance of success. Earlier this week I was at 5% at best, so this is a good change. MOMENTUM!

In Arizona, we do not have to prove voter fraud. We don’t even need to prove intent. We just have to prove there are enough Arizonans who have valid reasons to not trust the election results. That’s it. And since we’re talking about civil cases, we do not need to achieve the high bar of “beyond a reasonable doubt.” We need a preponderance of evidence in our favor and a judge who’s willing to do the right thing by annulling the election.

Those last two components are easier said than done. Even though we only need a preponderance of evidence in theory, the reality is we need a slam dunk. We need it to be a no-brainer that the voters in Arizona have been disenfranchised by the process, by a vote-counting system that was run by a candidate for governor, and by a series of uncanny events that took place on election day. We also need to get the right judge, which can be challenging.

But it can happen. I have hope, as I detailed on today’s episode of The JD Rucker Show.

Here are some of the clips shared by Kari Lake that point to the challenges the Arizona election posed:

If Arizona or any other state can be opened up to full-scale investigations and a healthy sense of skepticism from the electorate, there’s a chance this could be the first domino to fall that could extend to multiple midterm elections. If the momentum picks up, it could even extend back to 2020. Pray, folks.”

    ———————–
We have since discovered that Sam Bankman-Fried was running a massive Ponzi scheme. But with the collapse of FTT, that Ponzi now has no chance of recovering. It is officially game over for Bankman-Fried and the massive fraudulent empire he built.

There seems to be a clear consensus of overwhelming evidence that Bankman-Fried has committed an open-and-shut case of massive fraud. If justice is served equally, he would seemingly be destined to a similar fate to that of the last infamous Ponzi finance fraudster, Bernie Madoff, who was sentenced to 150 years in the big house. But Bankman-Fried has friends in high places.

As part of his efforts to de-risk the Ponzi, Bankman-Fried has made considerable efforts over the last couple of years attempting to bolster his ties to regulators and legislators, seeking to obtain both regulatory dominance for his exchange and good favor with people in positions of power. Over the most recent election cycle, Bankman-Fried granted enormous sums of political donations to Democrat politicians. He is second only to George Soros in doling out political expenditures for Democrats.

As I’ve documented on Twitter, he also has close ties to the very congressional committee that is set to investigate the collapse of FTX next month.

Bankman-Fried has also networked himself in with the executive branch, having secured meetings with SEC Chair Gary Gensler and other top Biden administration officials.
    ———————–
Authorities in the Bahamas (who have received significant financial support from Bankman-Fried) are attempting to crash the party and take the lead on bankruptcy proceedings. After declaring bankruptcy in the United States and resigning as CEO, Bankman-Fried then accessed FTX systems and transferred hundreds of millions of dollars in custodial assetsto authorities in the Bahamas under “provisional liquidation” procedures.

Some of FTX’s individual and institutional partners included the infamously sleazy Anthony Scaramucci and “Shark Tank’s” Kevin O’Leary, in addition to professional athletes like Tom Brady and his ex-wife Gisele, along with venture capital behemoths like Sequoia Capital. These forces were either recklessly neglectful or purposely chose to skip basic due diligence procedures while partaking in this Madoff-like too-good-to-be-true crypto investment scheme. But given that some very powerful interests may want to “claw back” their investments, that may raise the likelihood that SBF does indeed do the time for his crimes.”

  16. Entire Article: “Why Are Four Republican Senators Leading Talks With Illegal Aliens to Sneak Amnesty Through in Lame Duck Session?” This stinks of Uniparty Swamp.

    JD Rucker

“There are at least a dozen examples of the how the Uniparty Swamp rules Capitol Hill that are already popping up in the lame duck session before the GOP takes over the House of Representatives, but none of them are as egregious as talks about amnesty. Why? Because Republicans are the ones leading those talks.

    According to Breitbart:

“A handful of Senate Republicans reportedly started talks with illegal aliens enrolled in and eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program as House and Senate Democrats, along with corporate special interest allies, hope to pass an amnesty in the lame-duck Congress.

This week, DACA illegal aliens and open borders activists descended on Washington, DC, in their efforts to lobby ten Senate Republicans to join Democrats in passing an amnesty — before the GOP takes control of the House — that would secure them green cards and, eventually, naturalized American citizenship.

According to Politico, Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), and Pat Toomey (R-PA) held meetings with DACA illegal aliens to discuss potential amnesty plans.”

Toomey is out, so he can let his hair down. Cornyn and Rounds have four more years in their term. Lee just won in 2022. None of them can be held accountable by voters any time soon. That’s how the Uniparty Swamp operates.

And to those who think they’re rushing this through to keep Republicans in the House from blocking it, think again. This is about not forcing Republicans in the House to show their true colors. Kevin McCarthy and the moderate majority in the House don’t want to be called out by the Freedom Caucus. That’s it. If amnesty can’t get squeezed through during the lame duck session, we can expect McCarthy to come out in favor of it next year.”

  18. FBI Raids Home Of Man Who Made It Too Far In Area 51 Arcade Game
    U.S. · Nov 18, 2022 · BabylonBee.com

“MURRIETA, CA — After an anonymous tip from the owner of a local arcade, The FBI raided the home of Nick Baird, who had reportedly gotten way too far on the Area 51 arcade game.

“This man has seen too much,” said local FBI field agent Roy O’Neal, who led the pre-dawn raid on the local Murrieta residence. “He has witnessed things no private citizen should be allowed to see, and his 100% shot accuracy makes him a clear and present danger to top-secret government facilities in the area. We have taken him in for questioning and confiscated all his hard drives at this time.”

Sources say Baird so excelled as a Special Tactical Advanced Alien Response (STAAR) agent shooting the deadly Kronn alien race and their mutated zombie servants in the game, he achieved a score higher than any other player since the FBI had begun monitoring the Atari game 20 years ago.

Security footage from the arcade shows Baird had uncovered every secret room in the game and had avoided shooting the clumsy NPC teammates in the back of the head who kept popping up in front of him. Baird was about to fill up yet another 3-letter slot on the leaderboard with a crass nickname when he received a call from his mother that their home was being raided.

At publishing time, Baird had been reported missing and the case closed by the FBI, who confirmed they will be returning to their primary objective of investigating Mike Lindell.”

“WORLD — Hundreds of millions of people around the world mourned the sudden death of Twitter last night with hundreds of millions of heartfelt posts on Twitter.

“Twitter is dead. This is it. Goodbye, cruel world!” wrote Washington Post journalist Geebles Snortleton as it became clear the social media site had only a few hours of life left. “It’s been great! I’ll miss you all! Find me on Meta! It’s the wave of the future!”

The post has thus far received 12 likes and 3,487 retweets.

Analysts reported over 300 million similar messages were tweeted on the platform that same evening, leading to a record-breaking spike in Twitter usage.

“Elon has killed Twitter. He has made my blue check irrelevant. He has allowed unqualified people to express their opinions. This isn’t just the death of an app, it’s the death of democracy itself,” said Timothen Fordlestan, another journalist at the Washington Post. “This will be my last tweet on this platform.”

Sad: With Beer Sales Outlawed, World Cup Attendees Forced To Just Sit There And Watch Soccer
    SPORTS · Nov 18, 2022 · BabylonBee.com

“DOHA, QATAR — In a move that quickly received international backlash, the World Cup host country of Qatar has banned the sale of beer in or near arenas where matches will be played. With beer sales outlawed, the World Cup’s estimated 1 million attendees will be forced to just sit there and watch soccer.

FIFA organizers responded to Qatar’s alcohol ban by flopping onto the ground and screaming as if gravely injured.

“What’s the point of watching soccer if you can’t get plastered enough to not have to watch soccer?” Asked FIFA president Gianni Infantino who, moments earlier had been writhing on the ground in mortal agony. “This is asking too much of FIFA, the teams, the ‘athletes,’ and all of our fans of the sport.”

Long-time FIFA sponsor, Budweiser, expressed regret at not being a vital part of soccer’s tradition of fans getting blindly drunk and fighting one another rather than watching an incredibly dull, tedious sport.

Qatar has already been threatened with a boycott by other sports organizations that rely wholly on beer to prevent fans from having to watch, including baseball, cricket, lacrosse, and basketball when it’s the Lakers.

At publishing time, the U.S. had won the bid to host the next World Cup with its popular proposal that every match require beer and ban soccer.”

      1. here’s what i found on the Holman Rule

The Holman Rule is a rule in the United States House of Representatives that allows amendments to appropriations legislation that would reduce the salary of or fire specific federal employees, or cut a specific program. The rule was first enacted in 1876 and rescinded in 1983, and was reinstated in January 2017 on a temporary basis.[1] It was in effect for the entirety of the Republican-controlled 115th Congress and several amendments were proposed that progressed to a vote of the full House, but none were adopted. The rule was rescinded once more at the beginning of the 116th Congress upon Democrats taking control of the chamber.

    2. Dems can stop it in the Senate….bear in mind that we have not had a true funding bill introduced for quite some time. Funding continues to be done via a “Continuing Resolution.” I don’t know the details for that process but I know steps are skipped during that process.

EXCERPTS: “Step 1: Introduction — Only a member of Congress (House or Senate) can introduce a bill for consideration. The Representative or Senator who introduces a bill becomes its sponsor. Other legislators who support the bill or work on its preparation can ask to be listed as co-sponsors. Important bills usually have several co-sponsors.

Four basic types of legislation, all commonly referred to as bills or measures, are considered by Congress: Bills, Simple Resolutions, Joint Resolutions, and Concurrent Resolutions.

A bill or resolution has officially been introduced when it has been assigned a number (H.R. # for House Bills or S. # for Senate Bills) and printed in the Congressional Record by the Government Printing Office.

      Step 2: Committee Consideration
      Step 3: Committee Action
      Step 4: Subcommittee Review
      Step 5: Mark Up
      Step 6: Committee Action—Reporting a Bill
Step 7: Publication of Committee Report
      Step 8: Floor Action—Legislative Calendar
      Step 9: Debate

Step 10: Voting — Once debate has ended and any amendments to a bill have been approved, the full membership votes for or against the bill. Methods of voting include voice voting and roll-call voting.

Step 11: Bill Referred to Other Chamber — Bills approved by one chamber of Congress (House or Senate) are then sent to the other chamber, which follows the same track of committee, debate, and vote. The other chamber may approve, reject, ignore, or amend the bill.

Step 12: Conference Committee — If the second chamber changes a bill significantly, a conference committee made up of members of both chambers is formed. The conference committee then works to reconcile differences between the Senate and House versions of the bill. If the committee cannot agree, the bill dies. If the committee does agree on a compromise version of the bill, they prepare a report detailing the proposed changes. Both the House and Senate must approve this report or the bill is sent back to the conference committee for further work.

Step 13: Final Action—Enrollment — Once both the House and Senate have approved the bill in identical form, it is enrolled and sent to the President of the United States. The President may sign the bill into law or take no action. If the President takes no action on a bill for ten days while Congress is in session, it automatically becomes law. If the President is opposed to the bill, they can veto it. If they take no action on the bill for ten days after Congress has adjourned their second session, the bill dies. This action is called a pocket veto.

Step 14: Overriding the Veto — Congress can attempt to override a presidential veto of a bill and force it into law, but doing so requires a majority vote by the House and Senate. Under Article I, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution, overriding a presidential veto requires both the House and Senate to approve the override measure by two-thirds, a supermajority vote, of the members present. Assuming that all 100 members of the Senate and all 435 members of the House are present for the vote, the override measure would need 67 votes in the Senate and 290 votes in the House.”

  19. Mitch McConnell Calls For Regulation Of Ticketmaster After Failing To Obtain Taylor Swift Tickets
    U.S. · Nov 18, 2022 · BabylonBee.com

“WASHINGTON, DC — Emboldened by his re-election as the Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell has narrowed his immediate focus on the real problems facing the nation, the most serious of which is the Taylor Swift concert ticket scandal. After failing to obtain tickets himself, the Kentucky Senator vowed to hold Ticketmaster accountable.

“This situation has rocked our country to its very core and must be investigated,” warbled McConnell in a statement to reporters. “There is no greater crisis for the government to confront than this appalling shortage of tickets to see the greatest living entertainer in the world. I mean, have you heard her new music video for ‘Bejeweled?’ It’s an absolute visual and musical masterpiece.”

Anonymous sources said McConnell, a Swift superfan, had flown into a rage earlier in the week after being unable to get tickets. “Senator McConnell usually moves through his work in such a slow and methodical — almost tortoise-like — manner,” said the source. “After becoming a fan of Taylor Swift’s music, he’s really started to come out of his shell.”

While McConnell was spearheading the congressional effort to look into the crisis, many other members of the Senate were said to be eager to join committee hearings to question Ticketmaster executives. Senator Mitt Romney of Utah issued a statement of his own, expressing his disappointment in not being able to get tickets to see Swift in person, whom he described as “a bright shining example of American greatness with long legs.”

At publishing time, Senate leaders had cleared their previously scheduled meetings to discuss inflation, the ongoing immigration crisis, and the worsening opioid epidemic to focus solely on finding ways to get good seats for Swift’s upcoming tour.”

  20. EXCERPT: “National Adoption Day is celebrated every November 19. Did you know that in 2015 alone, 4,000 adoptions were finalized on the Saturday before Thanksgiving? Events are held all over the country to celebrate this holiday — during which communities and courts join efforts to find the right families for children in the foster care system. Let’s celebrate National Adoption Day as thousands of foster children are welcomed into their forever homes!

    HISTORY OF NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY

National Adoption Day is an effort to focus attention on the more than 125,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the U.S. A coalition of national partners — the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, Alliance for Children’s Rights and Children’s Action Network — founded National Adoption Day.

The coalition, along with the Freddie Mac Foundation, encouraged seven cities in 2000 to open their courts on or around the Saturday before Thanksgiving to finalize and celebrate adoptions from foster care.

Michael Nash, a former presiding judge of Los Angeles County’s Juvenile Court, inspired the first National Adoption Day with his innovative efforts. Nash opened the court on Saturdays, engaged the volunteer efforts of court personnel, and finalized adoptions to reduce the backlog of one of the busiest courts in the nation.

Today policymakers, practitioners and advocates collaborate to plan these annual, one-day events in 400 U.S. cities. To date the dreams of 75,000 children in foster care have come true as part of National Adoption Day events.

Approximately 2 million Americans are adopted — with about 150,000 adoptions happening each year, including about 50,000 through foster-care. U.S. adoptions may be either domestic or international. Domestic adoptions can be arranged either through a state agency, an adoption agency, or independently.

Bob Menendez (D., N.J.) and his wife are under federal investigation for allegedly taking gifts and services in exchange for political favors, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. Associates of Nadine Arslanian, who married Menendez in 2020, were subpoenaed by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York. It is not clear what specific information the office is seeking.

The investigation dates back to 2019, according to the Journal: ‘Late that year, court records show, federal investigators executed search warrants at the home and office of Wael Hana, the founder of IS EG Halal, an Edgewater, N.J., company that was designated the only business allowed to certify halal meat being exported to Egypt.

Mr. Hana is an associate of Ms. Arslanian, according to the people familiar with the matter.

Prosecutors were investigating possible undisclosed foreign lobbying in the U.S. and other potential violations of federal law, according to court documents filed in 2020 by Lawrence Lustberg, a lawyer for Mr. Hana, who was seeking the return of property seized by the government.’

Menendez was previously tried in 2017 in a public-corruption case, which ended in a mistrial. He was tried for allegedly taking $1 million in gifts—including private flights and trips—from a Florida doctor who wanted help with visas.”

Entire Article @ FB: “(Reuters)—The U.S Justice Department on Friday asked the Supreme Court to lift a lower court ruling that blocked President Joe Biden’s plan to cancel billions of dollars in student debt in a challenge brought by six Republican-led states.

The government asked the high court to vacate a Nov. 14 decision by the St. Louis, Missouri-based 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to grant a request by Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Carolina for an injunction against the plan.

The lower court’s “erroneous injunction leaves millions of economically vulnerable borrowers in limbo, uncertain about the size of their debt and unable to make financial decisions with an accurate understanding of their future repayment obligations,” the Justice Department said in the filing.

The government is also actively contesting a separate ruling by a federal judge in Fort Worth, Texas, that also threatens the debt-relief program. U.S. Judge Mark Pittman on Nov. 10 found the program unlawful as he sided with two borrowers who sued because they are ineligible for the program and believe their debt “should be forgiven too.”

The government stopped taking applications for student debt relief after Pittman’s decision.”

  23. “Report: Hunter Biden’s Daughter Lives with Sleepy Joe in Taxpayer-Funded Mansion” — Naomi, 28, is the president’s oldest legitimate grandchild. (He still won’t acknowledge Hunter’s lovechild with a stripper.)

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ FB: “Naomi Biden, the oldest legitimate daughter of amateur adult film star Hunter Biden, lives at the White House with her fiancé and elderly grandfather, according to the New York Times.

The newsworthy revelation was included as an aside in a fawning piece about Naomi’s plans to marry her fiancé, former Hillary Clinton intern Peter Neal, at a White House ceremony on Saturday, which happens to be President Joe Biden’s last day as a mere septuagenarian. The hard-hitting journalists at CNN report that the wedding will offer a “youthful spin” for the president on his 80th birthday.

The news that one of Hunter’s legitimate daughters is living at the White House comes after House Republicans announced plans to investigate “all avenues” of Hunter’s shady foreign business arrangements, and the extent to which President Biden was aware of and helped facilitate his troubled son’s money-making ventures. It is not entirely clear why Naomi and Peter—both lawyers who could certainly afford their own apartment—are living in a taxpayer-funded mansion, and why it is just now being reported in a mainstream news outlet.

‘Top Priority’: House Republicans Outline Plan for Biden Family Probe

Hunter Biden has three legitimate daughters—Naomi (28), Finnegan (22), and Maisy (21)—as well as a four-year-old daughter born to a former stripper named “Dallas.” Hunter aggressively challenged his paternity in Arkansas state court until a DNA test determined with “scientific certainty” that he was indeed the child’s father, which prompted an undisclosed financial settlement with the mother, Lunden Alexis Roberts. In his 2021 memoir, Beautiful Things, the First Son described Roberts as “hardly the dating type.”

President Biden has repeatedly refused to acknowledge the existence of his own grandchild, Navy Joan Roberts, and declined to provide Secret Service protection after the child and mother were threatened by a deranged MMA fighter. The president’s callousness stands in contrast to how his legitimate offspring are treated. Hunter’s ex-wife Kathleen Buhle wrote in her own memoir, If We Break, that she received a large private hospital room after giving birth to Naomi—a “gift from the hospital” in exchange for which the doctor asked Kathleen to deliver a letter to her father-in-law, then a high-ranking U.S. senator.

Hunter cheated on Kathleen with many women, including Hallie Biden, his brother Beau’s widow. Congrats on the wedding!”

  24. Personally, I would prefer to see no US military aid going to ANY country but our own!!!! Including Israel!!!! So on this subject, I agree with him!

EXCERPT: “Georgia Democratic senator Raphael Warnock’s church, where he serves as senior pastor and CEO, belongs to a coalition of far-left congregations that is calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel. Warnock’s Ebenezer Baptist Church is listed as a member of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, a left-wing Baptist denominational group that has been a staunch critic of the Jewish state. The senator gave the keynote speech at the PNBC’s annual conference last year, where it passed a resolution accusing Israel of “apartheid” and “ethnic cleansing.”

Warnock’s affiliation with the PNBC comes nearly two years after he faced criticism from the Jewish community for signing on to a statement, published by the same organization, that compared Israel to apartheid South Africa. In response to the controversy, Warnock’s campaign said he supported the U.S.-Israel relationship and “opposes ending direct military aid to such a strong ally.”

Despite Warnock’s own history of anti-Israel statements, such as accusing Israel of shooting unarmed Palestinians “like birds of prey,” he pivoted on the campaign trail in 2020 and positioned himself as a supporter of the Jewish state. But his church’s ongoing membership in the PNBC—and Warnock’s decision to headline its annual gathering last year—could reignite questions about his views.

Danielle Repass, the press secretary for the Georgia Republican Party, told the Washington Free Beacon that Warnock’s involvement with the group is in line with his “relentless history of anti-Israel speech.” “Time and time again, Raphael Warnock proves that he is irreconcilably out of touch with Georgians,” said Repass.

Warnock served as the PNBC’s social justice committee chairman until 2018, according to the group’s newsletter. The organization has been pushing the U.S. government to cut off military aid to Israel since at least 2019.”

  26. Entire Article @ FreeBeacon:
“Trump Is Back (And So Are the Fact-Checkers) — They no longer have to feign interest in holding the Biden administration accountable”

“What happened: Donald Trump is officially running for president again.

Why it matters: The mainstream media’s army of professional fact-checkers can finally go back to work. Trump’s entry into the 2024 presidential campaign means journalists can stop pretending to be interested in “speaking truth to power” by holding the politicians in power—President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party—to account. Let the feeding frenzy begin.

Happy days are here again: Media outlets responded to Trump’s campaign announcement on Tuesday by flooding the zone with Trump content. Why wouldn’t they? Ratings and profits are way down since Trump left office, and his reemergence means that millions of brain-damaged liberals will require continuous reassurance that Trump is bad and opposing him is morally righteous. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so they’re also going to need plenty of Trump fact-checks to print out and share with their unenlightened relatives.

Don’t call it an obsession: Trump’s name was all over the New York Times website on Wednesday. In addition to fact-checking his speech, the Times published the following Trump-centric articles within the last 48 hours:

    • “Donald Trump Is Finally Finished” by Bret Stephens
    • “Trump’s Announcement Is a Sign of Weakness” by Ross Douthat
    • “The Big Liar and His Losing Little Liars” by Thomas Friedman
    • “America Deserves Better Than Donald Trump” by The Editorial Board
    • “The Chaos Inside Donald Trump’s Mind” by Michael Wolff
    • “Don’t Buy Into the Trump-DeSantis Smackdown” by Michelle Goldberg
    • “Trump’s Don’t-Blame-Me Caucus” by Jonathan Weisman
    • “Trump, the Black Hole and Me” by Patrick Healy
    • “How Is It Possible That We Are Still Talking About This Man?” by Peter Wehner

    A real mystery, indeed.

Some context: Prior to publishing “We Fact-Checked Trump’s Speech” on Tuesday night, the Times was primarily focused on fact-checking Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, Joe Rogan, GOP campaign ads, and “Republican lawmakers are seizing on misleading claims.” In fairness, the paper also published an article about the time Biden “verbally fumbled” during a campaign speech in Florida. Additionally, a search of the Times website found a single Biden fact check published during his presidency—a week after he took office in 2021—which commended his “regard for basic facts.”

Like a phoenix from the ashes: Trump’s return is also great news for #Resistance wine moms and other fans of CNN fact-checking guru Daniel Dale, who could be hard to locate at times during the past 22 months. Dale made his triumphant return on Tuesday with “Fact check: 20 false and misleading claims Trump made in his announcement speech.” (Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post only managed to find 19. Booyah!)

Until now, most of Dale’s fact-checking during the Biden administration has focused on GOP campaign ads, low-level Republican officials, and “right-wing websites and social media personalities.” You could tell his heart just wasn’t in it.

    Welcome back!”
