Personal 1 Minute

Do you remember your first love? I do. It started when I was nine and my mom gave me my first sewing machine. It looked just like this one.

She began teaching me to sew by drawing shapes on fabric and had me sew around those shapes–learning how to maneuver fabric and control the machine.

When she was certain I could handle the machine, she finally allow me to choose fabrics from her scrap box. Mom was a skilled and proficient sewer–she had all sorts of fabric in there! And the colors!! I fell i love…with FABRIC!

I’ve worked with many different fabrics over the years: cotton, silk, wool, satin, fleece, flannel, denim, tulle.  You name it and I’ve probably worked with it. I’ve made jackets from denim, fleece and corduroy; men’s suits out of wool; shirts out of flannel and blouses out of silk.  And my wedding dress was satin, lace and tulle.

My favorite fabric though is cotton.  It’s easy to work with and comes in soooo many colors and patterns. 

And my favorite expression of my love of fabrics is quilts!

        1. Oh, it’s healing up really well, Pat. Still has some scabs that will take time. I still put some ointment on it a couple of times a week, and lotion to soften the skin around my leg. I will have to be careful not to bang it with the hoe or rake, of course.

The 58-year-old, already the longest-serving head of government in the EU, was challenged by six united opposition parties seeking to roll back the “illiberal” revolution Orban’s Fidesz party has pursued during 12 consecutive years in office.

    But with 94 percent of votes counted, Fidesz was on 53 percent compared to 35 percent for the opposition coalition, according to results from the national election office — a result which means the party will retain its two-thirds majority in parliament. Peter Marki-Zay, 49, the conservative leading the opposition list, addressed supporters and conceded defeat late on Sunday evening.

    “I will not hide my sadness and my disappointment,” he told them, combatively accusing Fidesz of running a campaign of “hate and lies”. He added that the opposition had done “everything humanly possible” but that the campaign had been “an unequal fight” given the way in which he and other anti-Fidesz politicians had been all but banished from state media.

    MEP Marton Gyongyosi from the right-wing Jobbik party which is part of the opposition coalition, told AFP that “abuses” had taken place on Sunday and added: “This will have to be considered when talking about how the results of the elections can be respected”. Orban has dismissed such complaints and insisted the vote was fair.

    For the first time more than 200 international observers monitored the election in Hungary, an EU member, along with thousands of domestic volunteers from both camps. Turnout reached 68.69 percent, almost matching the record participation seen at the last national elections in 2018.

    The far-right Mi Hazank party also surpassed expectations and will make its debut in parliament after crossing the five-percent minimum threshold.”

Kelly, interviewing Dunnigan on “The Megyn Kelly Show” as if he were the president himself, asked him about his son, Hunter, whose past business dealings with Ukraine, which included a position on the board of Burisma Holdings, an energy company that has long been a target of bribery allegations.

    Kelly also asked Dunnigan’s Biden about the president’s past comments, which appeared to call for regime change in Russia. “What happened when you seemed to call for regime change earlier this week, something that is not U.S. policy and actually could place other world leaders, including men like yourself, in danger. Why did you do that?” Kelly asked.

    “Huh? Wha … what’d I do? You said it! You said it, pal! I didn’t say nothing about that,” Dunnigan replied.

    During Dunnigan’s appearance on the podcast, he did impressions of other famous individuals, including Dr. Fauci, Andrew Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi, and an impression of Donald Trump as a woman which he dubbed, “Trans Trump.”

    In the letter, first obtained by the Daily Caller, the House Republicans say the move to pull the network off-air is an attack on the First Amendment, saying they are trying to silence conservatives’ speech. They stipulated three requests of Morrow and DirecTV:

    – Reconsider the contract renewal decision
    – Provide a detailed explanation of why DirecTV didn’t renew the contract
    – Answer whether anyone affiliated with AT&T had anything to do with the decision.

    A DirecTV spokesperson said in a statement to Bloomberg that following a review the company decided not to renew their contract with Herring Networks Inc., which is the owner of OAN. Reuters reported that DirecTV made up 90% of the network’s revenue.

    “As you surely agree, the First Amendment right to free speech is a cornerstone of America’s Republic. Yet, in recent years, we have witnessed a broad and concerted effort by large corporations to silence the speech of conservatives and marginalize opinions that do not fall within the political Left’s radical ‘woke’ worldview,” the lawmakers wrote in the letter.

    The lawsuit alleges the Parental Rights In Education law, which bans lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, violates the First Amendment, claiming phrases like “gender identity” and “age-appropriate” are too vague and will have a chilling effect on the behavior and speech of students, teachers and parents. It also claims the law breaches the Fourteenth Amendment and Title IX regulations by discriminating against gay and transgender people.

    LGBT activist organizations Equality Florida and Family Equality are named as plaintiffs in the case, along with a lesbian rabbi and her domestic partner, the mother of a transgender fifth-grader, a middle school teacher who incorporates “issues related to the LGBTQ community” in her classroom instruction and several other interested parties.

    The lawsuit also claims Florida’s law “erases other LGBTQ members of the school community and parents” and “is motivated by animus against LGBTQ students, families, and teachers of Florida, and those who would accept and support them in school.”
