The mystery of what happened to union leader Jimmy Hoffa has baffled the public ever since his disappearance from a Michigan parking lot 42 years ago.

Now, CBS Detroit reports that James Buccellato, a professor of criminology and criminal justice at Northern Arizona University, has a new theory that Hoffa was murdered at a home in Bloomfield Hills near where he disappeared on July 30, 1975.

He believes that Hoffa was lured from the parking lot where he was to meet with mafia leaders and taken to a nearby property owned by mafia member Carlo Licata. Buccellato claims that Hoffa was then murdered at that property before he was transported to a nearby crematorium.

“I believe he was taken immediately, his body, to either a funeral home on the east side — I don’t want to mention it because it’s still a prominent funeral home on the east side that was once upon a time owned by the mafia,” Buccellato said, “or possibly to a sausage factory in Detroit.”

These scenarios would account for the fact that Hoffa’s body was never recovered.

However, long before Hoffa made headlines because of his mysterious disappearance, he did so for other reasons altogether. Hoffa was a Detroit labor union leader and activist who was well known for his involvement in the Teamsters Union as well as the criminal charges that he faced while president of the organization.

These crimes originated from Hoffa’s involvement with organized crime, and consisted of improper use of union funds, and then attempting to bribe a grand juror when he was indicted for that first crime. Nevertheless, Hoffa’s criminal convictions, as well as the growing political power of his union, fueled his rise to prominence and fame.

However, his connections with the mafia were what would ultimately bring him down.

The FBI investigation of his disappearance failed to find his body, or to identify his killers, and the exact nature of his fate remained a mystery.

But nature abhors a vacuum, and in the absence of evidence, conspiracy theories, urban legends, and rumors filled the public’s imagination.

One famous theory claimed that Jimmy Hoffa was dismembered and that parts of his body were buried underneath Section 107 of the New York Giants’ stadium in New Jersey. This theory was disproven by the Mythbusters in 2010 when the TV show investigated the newly razed New York Giants’ stadium and found no evidence of a body.

Others believed that Hoffa was buried in the foundation of Detroit’s Renaissance Center, which was being built around the time of Hoffa’s disappearance.

Unlike these outlandish ideas, Buccellato’s theory seems much more plausible, albiet far less exciting. However, if his theory is correct, there would be little to no evidence available to prove it, as there would be no body to recover.

This ensures that even if Buccellato is right, the mystery of Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance will continue to endure.

    60* and overcast again.

    new thing on the deck this morning. a dead mouse in front of the side door. I know we have mice around–hubby baits them on the deck, by the air unit out back, in the woodshed. But we’ve never had one dead on the deck. this one looked stepped on to me. flatter but not bloodied. and there’s a large stone behind the house that’s been overturned–so hubby thinks a bear was around. i think he would have eaten the mouse. maybe not.

    gotta head into town early to pick up something at the PO. and then after lunch I have a long hair appt right after lunch…sigh

    see what today brings…

        I agree. Hubby checked the trail camera and there’s nothing on it, but it doesn’t face the ramp either. LOL

        the mice eat the poison all the time I think…lol I know the raccoons and chippers eat it too–it’s sweet smelling. but in all the years we’re here, never had a dead mouse on the deck. and i wonder what flattened it–i mean not enough that anything oozed out–so that’s weird. imo

        lol what awful things to discuss in the morning!

  4. Just The News: “Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley canceled late Wednesday night a planned meeting to consider acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination for the post, amid opposition from a handful of Republican senators.

    The cancellation comes as North Carolina GOP Sen. Thom Tillis and Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn continue to oppose Blanche’s nomination over a dispute about whether the administration will revive a $1.776 billion fund for victims of “weaponization” by the Justice Department.

    The senators are concerned the department under Blanche’s leadership will revive the deal, since an agreement on the deal still exists in writing. 

    “Chairman Grassley works to set President Trump’s nominees up for success in committee, not failure,” a spokesperson for Grassley told The Hill. “Senators Cornyn and Tillis want written assurances from the Department of Justice regarding the Trump-IRS settlement.

    “Tomorrow’s markup is postponed as work continues to secure sufficient support in committee to favorably report Attorney General-nominee Todd Blanche, who is highly qualified for the job,” the spokesperson added.

    The cancellation comes because just one vote could derail Blanche’s confirmation given the slim Republican majority.”

  6. Just The News: “Tiffany Justice, a co-founder of Moms for Liberty and an influential parental rights advocate, tells Just the News that families whose children were set back by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown may pursue legal action against Dr. Anthony Fauci.

    “Fauci, by suppressing dissenting scientists, hiding the origins of the virus, acting beyond statutory limits of his position, stepped outside the protections of the Federal Tort Claims Act,” Justice said Wednesday in an interview on the John Solomon Reports podcast.

    “His actions were not legitimate federal duties, and it would strip away the government’s protection and leave him personally liable,” she added. “…I do know of lawyers and parents who are currently looking at that avenue.”

    Just The News: “Two House members are engaged in a bipartisan effort to allow the federal government to slow down or shutter AI models that threaten to cause security breaches and other issues.

    The measure, introduced last week, follows an incident in which OpenAI’s models GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased model escaped its secure testing environment and hacked the widely used, open-source model AI platform Hugging Face, where developers from around the world share their code, datasets and AI models for free, according to the Associated Press. 

    Reps. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., and Nathaniel Moran, R-Texas, on Thursday introduced a bill called the “AI Kill Switch Act.” 

    The bill would also allow the secretaries of Commerce and Homeland Security as well as the director of U.S. National Intelligence Office, to slow down or shut down an AI system that could cause catastrophic harm, including launching large-scale cyberattacks on critical infrastructure, developing dangerous biological weapons, or triggering severe financial disruption.

    “Unfortunately, powerful AI systems can go rogue, behave in extremely dangerous ways, or even resist human intervention,” Lieu said in a statement. “It is imperative that these AI systems have kill switches so we can keep this technology from causing catastrophic harm, and that the federal government has the clear authority and process to shut down rogue AI models.”

    Said Moran: “Stewardship means making sure humans keep the capability to control the technology we build. This is exactly the kind of issue that needs serious attention and achievable policy, and I’m glad to work across the aisle with Congressman Lieu toward a solution.”

    President Donald Trump signed an executive order in June creating a framework for the federal government to vet the national security risks of the most advanced AI systems for up to a month before their public release.

    OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is set to meet with the Trump administration on Wednesday and Thursday to preview the company’s upcoming AI models and is expected to huddle with lawmakers, according to Semafor. 

    The OpenAI agent that broke into Hugging Face had reportedly gone on a hacking spree from July 11 to 13 that the company did not notice for days until at least July 18. By then, Hugging Face had contained the threat and alerted the FBI, according to Reuters. 

    “We are strengthening the containment, monitoring, access controls, and evaluation practices used during model development,” OpenAI said in a release after the hacking incident, which it called an “unprecedented cyber incident.”

    This isn’t the first time fears of cyberattacks have prompted federal intervention in frontier AI releases. In June, the federal government also implemented an export control directive to shut down Anthropic’s latest Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models, after Amazon warned of a method to bypass the models’ safeguards for advanced hacking capabilities.”

    “In one investigation, an FBI Field Office interviewed a mom for allegedly telling a local school board ‘we are coming for you.’ The complaint, which came into the FBI through the National Threat Operations Center snitch-line, alleged that the mom was a threat because she belonged to a ‘right wing mom’s group’ known as ‘Moms for Liberty’ and because she is a gun owner,’” asserts a 2022 report on the “Politicization of the FBI and Justice Department.” It was prepared by Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee and included whistleblower accounts. 

    “When an FBI agent interviewed the mom, she told the agent that she was upset about the school board’s mask mandates and that her statement was a warning that her organization would seek to replace the school board with new members through the electoral process,” the 1,050-page report states. ‘A Chance to Save This Country’

    Justice remains hopeful that Fauci will ultimately be held accountable. She’s optimistic by nature, joking that she makes “Covid lemonade” every day. As strange as it may sound, Justice believes, in many ways, Covid was a “blessing.” 

    The pandemic opened a lot of eyes to what big government was doing to Americans and their rights. It forged an army of parents who got to see the curtain pulled back on their children’s DEI schools of indoctrination. It forced moms and dads to stand up and speak out for their children and for their country. It woke a lot of people up to the abuses of the Covid Czar and his battalion of “experts” who used the pandemic to pursue political ends. 

    “Covid, I believe, gave us a chance to save this country and we’re not going to waste a minute,” Justice said. 

    What did Fauci have to say about it all? “On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution.”

    A routine patrol near a Midland County road led a corporal to a 100-millicurie cesium-137 source buried several inches underground, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
    The corporal, assigned to the agency’s Radiological/Nuclear Threat Detection Unit, was patrolling near South County Road 1210 on July 24 when a vehicle-mounted radiation detection system sounded an alarm.
    The corporal surveyed the area with additional equipment and traced the radiation to a source below ground. He then requested help from local, state and federal agencies to remove it safely.

    Detector leads crews to buried sourceDPS personnel and partner agencies conducted the recovery operation on July 25. The participating organizations included the FBI, Texas Department of State Health Services, Midland Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team, Midland Health Department, Midland Emergency Management and Chevron security representatives.
    The responding teams assessed the site, developed an excavation plan and established hot and cold zones. They continuously monitored radiation exposure and rotated workers under established safety protocols.
    Crews located the source about 6 to 8 inches below the surface. DPS identified the item as a 100-millicurie sealed radioactive source manufactured in April 1967.
    Responders documented the source, verified radiation readings and recovered it without incident. DPS reported no injuries, no personnel contamination and no threat to the public.

    Sealed radioactive sources keep material inside a capsule or in bonded solid form to prevent leaks while allowing controlled ionizing radiation emissions, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. They support medical, industrial, agricultural, research and educational uses, including cancer treatment, equipment sterilization, structural testing and soil-density measurement.
    The DPS unit includes one lieutenant, one sergeant and six corporals. Members use vehicle-mounted, backpack, handheld and drone-mounted detectors to locate radiological and nuclear material outside regulatory control. The unit also screens large events and dignitary visits.
    DPS said it is issuing a personal radiation detector to every state trooper and training troopers to serve as primary radiological and nuclear threat screeners.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — Science has declined to answer any questions to avoid incriminating itself for crimes it may have committed.

    Upon being brought in for a Congressional hearing over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, Science stated that it was advised by its attorneys to not answer questions so as to not to provide damaging witness against itself.

    “Science has elected to exercise its fifth amendment right to not provide testimony that may be used against it in criminal proceedings,” said Science’s attorney Jay Varner. “This decision should in no way be taken as an admission of guilt by Science. We continue to maintain that Science is wholly innocent, and hope it will keep its mouth shut from here on out.”

    Representative after representative grew visibly frustrated as Science repeatedly invoked its constitutional protections.

    “So when exactly did you know natural immunity was superior to vaccination?” one congressman asked.

    “On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer,” said Science.

    “Why did you call for censorship of anyone who stated that COVID leaked from a lab, when you knew that was the most likely explanation?”

    “I invoke the Fifth.”

    “Was the rule for six feet of social distancing based on actual evidence?”

    “Fifth.”

    “Did you ever tell people they couldn’t go to church but could attend a BLM protest?”

    “I’m going to go with… the fifth.”

    Legal experts noted that invoking the Fifth Amendment is a constitutional right and does not, by itself, imply wrongdoing. They also observed that it was nevertheless an unusual strategy for Science, which had proclaimed itself to be “settled” back in 2020.

    At publishing time, Science had requested that law enforcement please stop “following the Science.”

    Though many Muslims welcomed the new option, some argued that it portrayed Islam in a bad light. “It’s frankly offensive. Some of us just want to cheer for cars running over infidels, not actually be in the car ourselves,” said local man Mohammed Khan. “To call this ‘Islam Mode’ is a gross oversimplification of how much an individual Muslim might want to slaughter people. We demand Waymo address this immediately.”

    At publishing time, Waymo had addressed the pushback by adding an “Islam Lite” option, which would drive the car nearby to cheer on a passenger who is in full “Islam Mode.”

    The Iberian orcas are back. Within just two days, the same pod attacked four different boats off Spain’s northwestern coast, sinking one yacht and disabling several others by repeatedly smashing their rudders.

    Marine biologists still debate exactly why the whales target sailing vessels. Curiosity? Play? Revenge? Whatever the answer…boat owners are increasingly giving the Galician coast a very wide berth.

This week marks his birthday, and with it an invitation to return to Moby Dick, the greatest sea adventure story ever written – some say, America’s indispensable book. Its famous opening, “Call me Ishmael,” draws readers into the story of another legendary seaman on a quest.

    Yet where Columbus’s mission expanded the known world, Captain Ahab’s was driven by darker forces, motivated by vengeance — against the mighty creature that he blames for the loss of his leg, a great white sperm whale that sailors call “Moby Dick.” Ahab is so engulfed by his obsessive hunt for the whale that he comes to believe it embodies some evil, unspeakable force corrupting the universe. And so, his goal is not simply to mete out retribution but to save the world. Instead, he loses his ship, his crew, and his soul.

    A true quest is meant to do the opposite. It tests us through trial and error so that we grow stronger, learn to direct our strengths toward their highest purpose, and confront the flaws we must master. It demands both physical and moral courage—the very qualities that once sent Melville himself to sea as a young man. Ahab’s voyage, by contrast, blinded him to reason and morality until he could no longer understand even his own nature.

    Ambition unchecked by humility becomes monstrous. The Constitution, in framing a government of consent, reminds us of this truth about human nature – our  perpetual striving for power, our vying with others, and even, in the heart of every man, against what Abraham Lincoln called our better angels. Accomplishing great things requires an even greater understanding of ourselves.

    It also requires the patience to accept that great efforts may not always be rewarded in our own lifetimes. Melville died in relative obscurity. Moby Dick was a commercial failure. It wasn’t until decades later that readers came to recognize it as one of the greatest books our nation has ever produced, and it remains a classic. Melville may well have felt disappointment, yet what mattered most was the work he set about every day, the focused attention required to get it right, the fulfillment of a great quest.

    Two hundred and fifty years on, America’s great quest is still unfolding. Don’t stop, patriots…and never quit. There is still much to be done.”
