What Shall We Bake Today?

Food 1 Minute

Cookie bars are great picnic items—easy to bring, store and grab! When I make this recipe—Sweet Chocolate Caramel Squares—I will probably omit the sprinkles on top.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup butter, softened

½ cup brown sugar

2 cups chopped pecans

1 cup flaked coconut

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1 (11 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped

2 tablespoons milk

1 cup chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Mix flour, butter, and brown sugar together in a bowl; press into a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven until crust is lightly browned, 12 to 15 minutes.

Sprinkle pecans and coconut over crust. Pour sweetened condensed milk over pecans and coconut.

Bake in the preheated oven until set, 25 to 30 minutes.

Heat caramels and milk together in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes. Pour caramel sauce over baked sweetened condensed milk. Sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

    The Republicans agreed with Dumocrats to remove very fair, and talented, William Pulte, from serving as Acting DNI in return for getting FISA approved by the Dumocrats. However, the Republicans moved so fast with the hearings of the Great Jay Clayton, current U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, that Pulte would be gone before the Dumocrats would vote on FISA. Now, the Dumocrats are saying they will vote against FISA — So, the Republicans wound up having fulfilled their commitment, but Dumocrats broke the Deal. In addition, the newly nominated U.S. Attorney, Jamie McDonald, must be confirmed and blue slipped. Because of the ridiculous views of Republicans on blue slipping (Dumocrats are often willing to nix it), I may not be able to get the extraordinary Sullivan & Cromwell Partner, Jamie, approved, and I don’t want to take Jay Clayton away from the great job he is doing until Jamie is in place. Therefore, to add a slight bit of intrigue but, for the Good of the Nation, and the People of our Country, I will not approve FISA without THE SAVE AMERICA ACT going along with it. Not complicated, actually, the Republicans fell into a trap. Regarding the approval of our Great Patriot, Jay Clayton, we are cancelling the Senate Hearing RE: DNI today, and will not be going forward until Jamie McDonald is approved to be U.S. Attorney.   7. EXCERPT: “The FBI released an affidavit Tuesday regarding a foiled alleged terror plot on Sunday’s Ultimate Fighting Championship 250 event at the White House, which perpetrators were allegedly planning to attack with explosive-laden drones and snipers.

    At least five people have been arrested, and agents are working to identify as many as 18 others who appear to be involved in the planning on encrypted chats communicating with the alleged plotters, officials said.

    The affidavit identified three of the five apprehended suspects, including 19-year-old Tycen Proper, who was arrested in Ohio and charged with attempted murder and several firearms violations after he allegedly admitted to helping plan the attack.

    FBI task force officer Christopher Betts said in the court document that Proper’s mother reported her son’s unusual behavior to police in Ohio last week, highlighting his recent purchases of firearms and conversations with random people online.

    Proper also allegedly made “concerning statements,” including “making sympathetic comments about Adolf Hitler and posting anti-Semitic comments on Facebook,” according to NBC News.

    The suspect allegedly told investigators that his group was supposed to stage a protest on the north side of the White House, and while he was not planning to shoot anyone, people in his group were allegedly intent on violence. 

    “While the demonstration was taking place, the group would fly small, unmanned aircraft (i.e. drones) laden with unspecified explosive devices which would detonate over the north side of the UFC arena,” the affidavit said. “When the unmanned aircraft detonated, the intent was to force the crowd attending the UFC event and high-value targets (HVTs) to evacuate to the south.”

    Proper also claimed that the reason behind the planned attack was to allegedly jump-start a revolution because “members of the group believed that the United States needed to be torn down so that it could be rebuilt.”

    Another suspect was arrested in Missouri and identified as 32-year-old Daniel Eskridge, who was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, in connection with a plan to attack the event…..”

    “As America’s 250th anniversary rapidly approaches, national pride among Democrats is alarmingly low. Ninety percent of Republican respondents reported being “extremely” or “very” proud to be an American compared to just 29 percent of Democrats, according to a new NBC News poll. This brings the share of Americans who fall within these two categories to 56 percent, a record low since NBC ran this poll for the first time in 2001.

    This partisan divide is not just present among everyday Americans. When President Donald Trump congratulated the U.S. men’s national hockey team for defeating Canada in the Olympics during his State of the Union address, many Democrats stayed seated and refused to clap. At the same time, other audience members broke out in chants of “USA! USA! USA!”

    In addition, many of the Democratic Party’s policies focus on serving the interests of foreigners over native-born citizens. Many states and cities have passed “sanctuary” laws allowing illegal aliens to remain in the territory without fear of deportation. David Bier of the Cato Institute said that in Fairfax County, Virginia, a state that enforces sanctuary laws, about one in five residents are illegal aliens.

    Gov. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., refused to comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Trump Administration to deport illegal aliens charged with drug trafficking, rape of a minor, and other serious criminal offenses. The Department of Homeland Security called Spanberger’s Virginia a “hotbed of illegal alien crime.”

    Like politicians, leftist organizations also promote anti-American rhetoric. All of U.S. 250, an organization planning nationwide protests for June 27, declared on its website that “a white supremacist faction is pushing our country in the opposite direction,” and specifically attacked the “MAGA regime.”

    This does not suggest that Republicans aren’t concerned about the direction the country is headed in. Americans in both parties reported low levels of trust in government and civil institutions. Only 6 percent of respondents said they had “a great deal” of trust in Congress and the national news media. Eight percent reported this level of trust in the federal government as a whole.

    When asked if the American Dream is harder or easier to attain today than in the past, 78 percent of respondents said they felt it was harder, compared to only 5 percent who found it to be easier. This coincides with data showing that it is much harder for young Americans to buy homes and live comfortably.

    Nonetheless, despite their distrust of the institutions and concern about the future of the country, Republican respondents reported high levels of patriotism. Democrats, on the other hand, have very little pride in their country, and the party’s leaders, policies, and organizations show this divide clearly.”

  10. so, the orioles and grosbeaks are getting messy with the jelly–and it’s falling on the railing and attracting ants. I put a liquid bait ant trap–a new kind that sticks to a surface–and put it on the post below the feeder. an oriole couldn’t get tot he feeder because a grosbeak was eating there and must have smelled the bait trap? cuz he flew down and pecked at it and it fell off the deck and in the grass…so much for those.

  16. Just The News: “Lawyers of the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024 will argue that their client was experiencing extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the shooting. 

    At a hearing for Luigi Mangione on Wednesday, Judge Gregory Carro said he would unseal records related to a defense in which defendants admit to the charges but argue they can’t be held liable because they were experiencing an extreme emotional disturbance at the time, according to CNN. The defense is available under New York state law for those accused of murder. 

    A hearing for Mangione earlier this month was sealed at the defendant’s request. Mangione’s lawyers argued the hearing would have been “very prejudicial” to their client if they decided not to move forward with this type of defense. 

    Carro gave Mangione’s lawyers until Thursday to turn over information related to the extreme emotional disturbance defense, including the name of their psychiatric expert. Further delay, he said, could preclude Mangione from using the defense at trial. 

    Prosecutors “need to know what the malady is that this defendant suffers and how that triggered an extreme emotional disturbance at the time and place of the occurrence. Nothing is going to be a surprise. I’m not going to let you surprise the people on the eve of the trial,” Carro said. 

    Mangione pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in the 2024 fatal shooting.”

The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran and their allies in the current war, by signing this mou declare the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and undertake from now on not to initiate any war or any military operation against each other, and to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other, and ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon. The final deal will confirm the permanent termination of the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon and other provisions of this paragraph.

    2. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran undertake to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.

    3. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran commit to negotiating and achieving the final deal in maximum 60 days extendable with mutual consent.

    4. Immediately upon the signing of this MOU, the United States of America will begin the removal of its naval blockade and any disturbances or impediments against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and will fully end the naval blockade within 30 days. During this period, the traffic of vessels will be in proportion to the numbers of pre-war traffic being restored by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least USD 300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The mechanism for the implementation of this plan will be finalized as part of a final deal within 60 days. All required licenses, waivers, and permissions needed for the relevant financial transactions will be granted by the United States of America.

    7. The United States of America undertakes to terminate all types of sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the United Nations Security Council resolutions, i.e.

    IAEA Board of Governors resolutions, and all unilateral US sanctions, primary and secondary, in an agreed upon schedule as part of the final deal. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America acknowledge the critical importance of the sanctions termination issue above mentioned, and expressed their intentions to immediately address these issues in the negotiations in order to achieve mutual agreement on them.

    8. The Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran have agreed to resolve the disposition of stockpile enriched material pursuant to a mechanism that will be mutually agreed upon in accordance with the schedule mentioned in paragraph seven with the minimum methodology to be down blending on site under the supervision of the IAEA. The two parties also agreed to discuss the issue of enrichment and other mutually agreed matters related to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear needs, based on a satisfactory framework being agreed upon in the final deal. The final deal will confirm the provisions of this paragraph. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran acknowledge the critical importance of the nuclear issues above mentioned, and express their intention to immediately address these issues in the negotiations in order to achieve mutual agreement on them.

    9. Pending the final deal, the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran agree to maintain the status quo. The Islamic Republic of Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program, and the United States of America will not impose any new sanctions, and will not deploy additional forces in the region.

    10. The United States of America undertakes that immediately upon the signing of this MOU, and until the termination of sanctions, the US Department of Treasury will issue waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and derivatives, and all associated services, including banking transactions, insurances, transportation, etc.

    11. The United States of America undertakes to make fully available for use the frozen or restricted funds and assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran upon the implementation of this MOU. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran will mutually agree on the procedures related to the release of these funds during the negotiations. Such funds, whether retained in the original account or transferred, shall be made fully usable for payment to any ultimate beneficiary designated by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The United States of America undertakes to issue all necessary licenses and authorizations accordingly.

    12. The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran agree that an executive mechanism will be established to monitor the successful implementation of this MOU and the future compliance of the final deal.

    13. After signing this MOU and subject to the beginning of the implementation of paragraphs 1,4,5,10, and 11 of this MOU and the continuing implementation of these measures, the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran will start negotiations regarding the final deal exclusively on the other paragraphs.

    14. The final deal will be endorsed by a binding UNSC resolution, and then there’s the signature page.”

    It’s not just the American People Trump is talking to. He’s talking to the entire world. The global public are being prepared for world-altering news. The world must be informed of the great criminality that took place, BEFORE there can be justice. The landing must be soft and gradual.

    Trump is preparing the world for what must be done. Obama, and all those involved in supplying Iran with nuclear weapons, must be held accountable.

    At the G7, Trump offered thanks to Xi and Putin for remaining neutral during Iran. Trump confirms Xi honored his request to not sell certain weapons to Iran.

    This confirms my analysis that Trump had agreements in place with Xi/Putin BEFORE any action in Iran took place. This means Xi and Putin were in the loop in some capacity, and agreed to stand down while Trump took care of his business in Iran. Meaning that WW3 was never at risk, and Trump had the board secure before he did anything.

    This also means that Xi and Putin turned their backs on Iran, in favor of Trump. Xi and Putin didn’t want the Iranian regime to have nuclear weapons either. They just want access to Iran’s oil. They don’t want nuclear war in the Middle East.

    Pretty much the entire world agrees with Trump, that the rogue Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions needed to be neutralized, and the US MIL is the only force capable of doing so.

    This confirms Trump has unofficial back channel deals in place with Xi and Putin. Sounds like Xi and Putin want justice for the crimes of the Obama administration also. Very interesting indeed.”

  35. Just The News: “President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the 60-day limit to end the conflict in the Middle East that was listed in the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding is not a “hard” deadline and he would be open to extending it if Iran is serious about negotiations. 

    The memorandum, which was signed digitally over the weekend but is expected to be signed formally on Friday, said both sides have committed to “negotiating and achieving the final deal in a maximum 60 days, extended with mutual consent.”

    Trump told reporters that he did not view the 60 day limit as the final deadline and downplayed the agreement as preliminary, according to The Hill.

    “I don’t view it as hard,” he said. “Just as long as they’re behaving, I really don’t care that much. It’s not final. It’s a memorandum of understanding, and if I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head.”

    A Trump administration official read the terms to reporters earlier in the day, which addresses Iran’s nuclear program, ongoing fighting in Lebanon, sanctions relief, and plans for the release of frozen funds.

    The terms did not include restrictions on Iran’s supply of ballistic missiles, which the administration has repeatedly touted as a focal point for claiming victory. Trump, for his part, has contended that Iran needs to be able to maintain its missile supply in light of the abundant military stockpiles held by other nations in the region.”
