Morning, Pat! We had some rain last evening but not much. Bright and sunny this morning @ 65 so I was able to put my flag out. Not much Oriole activity yet but I did have to refill the open feeder and added a bit to the big one. No Wheezer this morning.
Gage and I had to chase that danged turkey hen out of my yard twice yesterday! With me coming from one direction and Gage the other, she finally flew over the fence the second time to escape us. I have no clue why she is finding my yard so attractive this year. They’ve never come into my yard before!
He replaced the screen on my patio and did some maintenance work on my truck. We sat for at least an hour just talking and I filled him in on some things that had happened in my life thru the years and vice versa. We had a long convo about a lot of things – it was really nice.
Piper seems to be very much like her Dad, sadly. I’ve heard not one word from her nor has Gage – he friended her on FB, sent her a text with no result at all. He has run across her Dad now and then in Norfolk and they both studiously ignore each other.
I did some checking…wild turkeys scratch out a nest (hollow in the ground) and they use whatever is around that area–leaves, sticks etc). and April-June is nest building, egg laying time. once the chicks hatch, they will move to brooding in trees. Maybe she has a nest with eggs in it somewhere on your property?
Yes, I knew that and no, she doesn’t have a nest here at the moment but I expect that is what she was prospecting for…..they usually prefer a nesting spot in taller grass. There is plenty in the field behind me so she can go there!

Back when I was working for Watson here in NE who was running for the House, I was passing out cards in WM and ran across 2 white farmers from So. Africa. I asked them about what was going on in their country and they both said they would return, if necessary, to fight for their land.
Well, I looked it up – it is illegal to poison ground squirrels in NE. Sucks for sure. I can trap them, with a fricking permit, but they have to be released into the same general area so there’s no point to it. If all else fails, I’ll get some traps and leave ’em in there until they die, then dispose of the carcass out in a ditch somewhere….IF the squirrel deterrent I’ve ordered doesn’t help.
If not, it’s BB gun time (altho it’s technically illegal to shoot them, too). It won’t kill ’em unless I get a lucky shot in the eye but it might help deter them. I finally just took down the seed block, then looked out to see FOUR squirrels around, one trying to get into the covered seed feeder and 2 on the garden bed, one of which was trying to get into the jelly feeder. Grrrrr……nothing makes my blood pressure spike like those bastids!!!!

He hated that idea and said maybe if you get in the truck bed and push though. we tried some more. then he said alright let’s try you pushing.

in the process salamanders ran across my shoes, a mouse ran into the garage and i screamed (hubby killed it) and every time i stepped in the grass it seems, i scared a frog…they’re everywhere right now.
Sheesh! It’s cookin’ here @ 90 now! At least there is a strong breeze but it’s hot!!! No sign of any squirrels since my scream-fest and removal of the seed block. Now, it was my understanding that these things serve two purposes – One, that you can still get a nicotine buzz in places where they won’t let you smoke, and TWO – more importantly – I has assumed these were used by people – like me – who want to quit smoking. The heroic, Purple Heart-winning Army veteran, who US Senate hopeful Graham Platner sneered in a screed on his burner Reddit account didn’t deserve to live, tore into the Democrats for continuing to back the Maine candidate. Pfc. Ted Daniels, who captured viral helmet footage of himself moving into open terrain to draw Taliban fire away from his squad in 2012, said Democrats backing Platner owe his children an apology.
“I’m very thick-skinned, and he said it,” Daniels told The Post. “I don’t want an apology, and any apology from him [Graham] at this point would definitely not be sincere. What I’d really like is for Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, Hakeem Jeffries, and everybody else on the far left to tell my children to their face that they are endorsing and supporting a man who said that their father should have not lived. Cheering on the death of their father.”
About seven years ago, Platner, a Marine veteran, sneered at Daniels from his “P-Hustle” Reddit account. Daniels had gone viral in 2012 over heart-pounding footage of himself out in the open on a ridge in Afghanistan with bullets flying all around him, trying to create an opening for his seven fellow soldiers.
“This video never gets old. Dumb motherfucker didn’t deserve to live. At least his stupidity and fat ass wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt,” Platner, then a 34-year-old, chided on his burner Reddit account.
If one single veteran votes for this Platner prick, they should lose any benefit gained from their service. ‘Nuff said…’

May 5, 1866 (Waterloo, NY): Waterloo, New York, is recognized by Congress as the official birthplace of the holiday. On this day, the town closed its businesses and residents flew flags at half-staff to decorate the graves of fallen veterans.
May 30, 1868 (Arlington National Cemetery): The first official national observance was established by General John A. Logan, leader of the Grand Army of the Republic (a veterans’ organization). Participants decorated the graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers, a tradition solidified by a speech from Congressman James A. Garfield.
Memorial Day was later established as an official federal holiday, and in 1968, Congress moved its observance to the last Monday in May.

Newsmax: “Nearly 300 undocumented migrants carrying commercial driver’s licenses issued by states including New York and California have been stopped and prosecuted in Indiana over the past three months, the New York Post reported Saturday, citing comments from an aide to Republican Gov. Mike Braun.
Tony Ferraro, a Braun aide and member of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, said during a recent meeting that authorities identified 283 undocumented truck drivers during inspections at Indiana weigh stations, according to the Post and the Chicago Tribune, which first reported the remarks. “That’s over three a day that we pulled out of trucks,” Ferraro said, according to the Post.
Ferraro said many of the drivers carried commercial driver’s licenses, or CDLs, issued by states — including New York and California — that permit noncitizens to obtain licenses under certain circumstances, the Post reported.
Indiana officials did not specify what criminal charges were filed against the drivers or whether the licenses themselves were deemed invalid, according to the report.
Federal rules generally require CDL holders to be legally authorized to work in the United States, though the Post noted that some immigration and licensing rules vary by state and may depend on when credentials were issued.
Indiana does not issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants, and Braun’s administration has stepped up highway inspections and immigration-related enforcement efforts since taking office earlier this year, the Post reported.
Republican Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has also backed tougher immigration enforcement policies, including expanded cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.”
