Armed Forces Day 2026: What It Is and How to Honor It

Armed Forces Day 2026 falls on Saturday, May 17.* This guide covers the history behind the holiday, how it differs from Veterans Day and Memorial Day, and practical ways to honor the men and women currently serving.

Most Americans know Memorial Day and Veterans Day by heart. Armed Forces Day? Not so much. And that’s a problem, because this is the one day specifically set aside for the men and women currently wearing the uniform. Not the veterans who came home. Not the fallen who gave everything. The ones on active duty right now, stationed across six continents, standing watch while the rest of us go about our lives. Armed Forces Day 2026 falls on Saturday, May 17. Here’s what you need to know and how to make it count.

What Is Armed Forces Day?

Armed Forces Day is a federal observance honoring Americans currently serving in all six branches of the U.S. military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson created it on August 31, 1949. Before that, each branch celebrated separately. Army Day was April 6. Navy Day was October 27. Air Force Day was August 1. Johnson had a straightforward idea: one unified day to recognize everyone in uniform, regardless of branch.

Armed Forces Day vs Veterans Day vs Memorial Day

People confuse these three constantly. Here’s the difference in plain English.

★Armed Forces Day (3rd Sat of May): Honors those currently serving on active duty

★Memorial Day (last Mon of May): Honors those who died in service

★Veterans Day (November 11): Honors everyone who has ever served

The short version: Armed Forces Day is for the ones still in. Memorial Day is for the ones who gave everything. Veterans Day is for every American who ever raised their right hand and took the oath.

    NYP Reporter: Prior to boarding Air Force One to depart Beijing, the entire U.S. delegation disposed of every item provided to them by their Chinese hosts. Gifts, badges, pins, and commemorative items were all dumped into a trash bin on site. The directive was absolute, no item of Chinese origin was permitted to board the aircraft. The precautions extended beyond the departure itself. Delegation members had left all personal electronic devices at home before traveling to China and operated exclusively on clean burner phones throughout the duration of the trip.

    “I think we are going to see the eventual withdrawal of US influence in Taiwan and Ukraine. Trump is removing Chinese/Russian influence from our hemisphere, Venezuela, Panama, Cuba, etc., and I think Trump wants to remove our presence from China and Russia’s neighborhood as well.

    Putin and Xi stood down this entire time while Trump removed their influence in our region, and I think they did so in exchange for us to do the same. This fits into my overall thesis that we are seeing the world map be redrawn, and spheres of influence are being consolidated. The US will no longer be the world police, our military is coming home, and the superpowers will be in charge of their respective regions.

    I think Trump is ending the proxy wars, the espionage, the weapons of mass destruction arms races, the Cold War that never ended, and preventing WW3 before it begins. We will stay in our yard, China/Russia will stay in their yard, and we can trade with each other and coexist peacefully. We can treat each other as global partners, instead of enemies on a collision course for war.

    I think this is the end goal of the plan. A sustainable and lasting peace.”

  9. Just The News: “Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis commuted the sentence of former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters on Friday, shortening her nearly nine-year prison sentence related to the 2020 election.

    Peters was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2024 but an appeals court ruled last month that she needs to be resentenced after part of the sentence punished Peters for her protected speech regarding fraud claims in the 2020 election.

    Polis denied that the commutation was an attempt to appease President Donald Trump, instead highlighting that Peters was a first-time nonviolent offender who was given an “unusually harsh sentence.” 

    “She committed a crime; she deserves to be a convicted felon,” Polis told the New York Times, claiming her views on the 2020 election shouldn’t have impacted her sentence. “I think it’s an important message we send out, that supports free speech in our country.” 

    The 70-year-old Peters was found guilty of three counts of attempting to influence a public servant and one count each of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, first-degree official misconduct, violation of duty, and failure to comply with the requirements of the secretary of state.

    Polis also commuted the sentences of eight other state residents and pardoned 35 people.

    Peters will be released on parole effective June 1.”

  10. EXCERPT: “Dr. Mehmet Oz, President Donald Trump’s point man for Medicare and Medicaid, says the billions of entitlement fraud being uncovered in Democrat states may be intentionally driven by politics rather than incompetence.

    “I do think it’s a feature for some of these states,” Oz told Just the News in a wide-ranging interview Thursday night in which he detailed why the administration led by Vice President JD Vance temporarily pulled $1.3 billion in Medicaid funding from California and uncovered foreign fraudsters stealing taxpayer welfare monies.

    “Republicans always suspected there was fraud of this magnitude. Democrats feel embarrassed that it’s gotten this bad, and they don’t know what happened to all the money they thought they were helping people with. So it’s a great issue for us to drive home,” he said.

    Oz said his own agency, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), alone is losing $100 billion a year to fraud, a total that if stopped could extend the life of America’s most famous entitlement program.

    “If we just fix that, just give you an affordability context, it will double the life expectancy of the Medicare trust fund,” he said. “So if you’re out there working your tail off, hoping one day Medicare will be there for you to catch you in your older years, it’ll double the life expectancy of that program.”

    Oz announced this week his agency shut down 800 hospice centers suspected of being empty, fraudulent shells.

    “It highlights the reality that the fraud had actually created such a deep corruption, such a deep rot in the system, that when someone finally began to take action, they all scurried like rats into the corners. They never thought anybody would come after them,” he said.

    Oz offered an example from New York state on how politics appears to have perpetrated systematic waste…..”

          Democrats feel embarrassed that it’s gotten this bad, and they don’t know what happened to all the money they thought they were helping people with.

          THEY knew–they were getting kickbacks and votes in return…

    The corrupt establishment tried to lock her away for standing up for Election Integrity, but we didn’t back down.
