  1. Good Morning All!

i loved Erma’s columns and I have at least one book of hers.

We’ve got some snow/ice on the deck from overnight but not a lot, temps are below 30*.

we’re going out for a pizza and get the mail some time today, hubby hasn’t decided if it’s lunch or supper.

    1. Good morning, Pat. Cold here at 14 – still no snow, thankfully, but it’s cloudy. No sign of either cat – food is out, we’ll see who shows up. When I was growing up, the Norfolk paper always carried her column and we loved it.

And how much ya wanna bet, that it includes families and not single people in IL? Trying to prove he is ‘family friendly’?

Big difference between “families” and “households”.

Your tariff taxes wreaked havoc on families, enraged our allies, and sent groceries prices through the roof. This morning, your hand-picked Supreme Court Justices notified you that they were also unconstitutional.
On behalf of the people of Illinois, I demand a refund of $1,700 for every family in Illinois. There are 5,105,448 households in my state,”

  4. Just The News: “The United States’ Olympic men’s hockey team advanced to the finals Friday afternoon in Italy, after defeating Slovakia by a score of 6-2. They will now face off against Canada for the gold medal on Sunday.

The United States’ Dylan Larkin scored the first goal of the game in the first period, followed by Tage Thompson. Team USA scored another three goals in the second period, which were scored by Jack Hughes and Jack Eichel.

Team USA’s victory means the United States will medal in men’s hockey at the Olympics for the first time since 2010, when the U.S. took home the silver medal against Canada. The last time the U.S. won gold was in 1980 against Finland, after previously defeating the Soviet Union in the medal round in the game frequently referred to as the “Miracle on Ice.”

Slovakia will play Saturday against Finland to see who takes home the bronze medal. The finals match will take place Sunday morning.

The victory comes after the U.S.’s women’s hockey team defeated Canada for Olympic gold during overtime on Thursday.”

  5. Just The News: “A new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) memo confirms Just the News’ 2022 reporting on former President Biden’s involvement in the FBI raid of President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property.

“This event is dependent upon the timeline of President Biden’s brief, decision and coordination between WH Counsel and DOJ, and in tum, Evan Corcoran’s position on the override of privilege assertion and whether or not he seeks an injunction to prevent access,” read a memo obtained by JTN.

    FBI memo.pdf

According to a previous JTN report from 2022, the Biden White House had facilitated DOJ’s criminal probe against Trump. The memos showed that then-White House Deputy Counsel Jonathan Su had conversations with the FBI, DOJ and National Archives as early as April. Those conversations took place after the voluntary return of 15 boxes of classified and other materials, according to the previous report.

Su told the National Archives that Biden would not object to waiving his predecessor’s claims to executive privilege that Trump might use to prevent DOJ from accessing additional documents, the memos cited in the report said.”

  6. Just The News: “President Trump has declared an emergency over the Potomac River sewage spill in the Washington, DC area. He formally approved a disaster declaration on Saturday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responding to the situation. “The President’s action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to alleviate the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population and to provide appropriate assistance to save lives, to protect property, public health and safety and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe,” FEMA said in a statement.”

  7. Just The News: “President Trump said on Saturday he’s raising global tariffs to 15%.

“Based on a thorough, detailed, and complete review of the ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision on Tariffs issued yesterday, after MANY months of contemplation, by the United States Supreme Court, please let this statement serve to represent that I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been ‘ripping’ the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level,” he wrote.

“During the next short number of months, the Trump Administration will determine and issue the new and legally permissible Tariffs, which will continue our extraordinarily successful process of Making America Great Again – GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!” Trump added.

The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Trump lacks emergency authority to charge tariffs unilaterally without Congress.”

  8. “Why do you suppose it is that diners like this one are mostly only popular in New Jersey? I would think they’d fit in almost anywhere in the country.

Some of the big Greek  diners in Jersey would have eight-page menus and you could get breakfast, luch and dinner 24 hours a day. There’s something to be said about a big stack of pancakes with a side of corned beef hash and a rootbeer float at 3:00am…”

  9. Just The News: “The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for major population centers from the Mid-Atlantic into New England as a strong late-winter storm intensifies while moving up the East Coast and threatens to disrupt travel and daily life starting Sunday.

Forecast models now show the system strengthening more than previously expected, with some areas from New York City through Long Island, southern Connecticut, coastal New Jersey and Delaware facing the possibility of 1 to 2 feet of snow.

Ocean winds and tides could add flooding risks along the vulnerable coastline. Meteorologists warn that snowfall could begin quietly in some locations as rain on Sunday before quickly changing over to heavy snow Sunday night. At times, snow may fall as fast as 2 inches per hour in the hardest-hit zones, with conditions beginning to ease by Monday afternoon.”

  10. Just The News: “JPMorgan Chase confirmed for the first time that it shut down the bank accounts of President Donald Trump and several of his business entities in the months following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. The disclosure was made in a court filing as part of the ongoing legal disputes related to “debanking.”

Trump has sued the bank and its CEO, Jamie Dimon, for $5 billion. Trump has argued that the account closures were politically motivated and caused significant disruption to his business operations.

“In February 2021, JPMorgan informed Plaintiffs that certain accounts maintained with JPMorgan’s CB and PB would be closed,” wrote JPMorgan’s former chief administrative officer Dan Wilkening in the court filing.

According to the Associated Press, the “PB” and “CB” represents JPMorgan’s private bank and commercial bank.”
