Happy National Wisconsin Day!

If you’re planning a trip to Wisconsin, here’s some “don’t miss” attractions according to Trip Advisor!

Taliesin Preservation – Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center

Taliesin, the home, studio and estate of Frank Lloyd Wright, is located in the Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin near Spring Green. It is the name of Wright’s house as well as the 800-acre estate that includes buildings from all decades of Wright’s career. Its many wings and terraces reach out around the ridge of the hill, embracing the site and standing as “brow.” Taliesin was the residence of Wright and the valley was his inspiration and life-long laboratory for architectural designs and innovation. Taliesin represents the most complete embodiment of Wright’s philosophy of Organic Architecture. The Taliesin residence is the heart of a series of buildings that Wright designed for himself and his family members on the estate.

    1. Morning, Pat! 29 here this morning but bright and sunny. What a difference it makes w/o the plastic covering the patio windows! Much better! Doesn’t look like Wheezer made a stop last night – food looks undisturbed. I’ve never visited Wisconsin, altho my brother, Red, invited me several years ago.

      1. Morning Filly!
it wasn’t a long stop–we visited Michigan in that trip as well. I always wanted to go back there because of all the lighthouses in Michigan, but our touring days are over.
it’s gray and cloudy here…but the temp is 20*.

  1. EXCERPT: “Georgia state Sen. Greg Dolezal, a leading voice on election integrity and a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, is urging the state government to temporarily take over vote counting in Fulton County in the aftermath of an FBI raid that seized 2020 election ballots.

“We passed a law in 2021 that set the triggers in place for the state election board to take over the elections for a temporary period of time if a county proves they’re incapable of following Georgia law. And if there’s ever a county that’s proven it, it’s Fulton County,” Dolezal told the Just the News, No Noise television show on Friday.

“Today, Fulton County has hundreds of people still on their voter rolls that show they were born in the year 1900, and they have thousands of people registered to vote at illegal voting locations: parking lots, homeless shelters that have been closed for a decade, UPS stores, and storage units.

“It is time for the state to step in before the 2026 general election to ensure that we can have a free and fair election so important,” he said, adding it likely would only take two years of intervention to fix the problems.

Fulton County is home to the city of Atlanta, and the largest voting metropolis in the state of Georgia. Dolezal is the first major figure in the state to call for the takeover in 2026. But he says his other colleagues in the legislature are also warming to the idea.

“I hope the state election board discusses it when they meet next week. I was the first elected official to call for that, but I certainly talked to other colleagues of mine in the General Assembly, and there is certainly on the Republican side, the people that are paying attention to this know that Fulton County is a problem, and they know that the only remedy that we have is the state election board coming in,” he said…..”

    @1Nicdar Thomas Massie’s Major Accomplishments!

In his 13 years in the House, no laws he sponsored have passed.

No laws he attempted to block have been stopped.

He is now almost single-handedly trying to destroy Trump’s mandate by opposing Johnson.

So basically, he’s a professional self-absorbed attention whore!

Upon learning the boy had only raised one dollar after three hours of playing, Elvis paid for the prescription himself, gave the boy $100 for groceries, and personally drove him home in his Cadillac.”

  5. Just The News: “President Trump said on Sunday that Board of Peace members have pledged more than $5 billion for Gaza reconstruction.

“The Board of Peace has unlimited potential. Last October, I released a Plan for the permanent end to the Conflict in Gaza, and our Vision was unanimously adopted by the United Nations Security Council. Shortly thereafter, we facilitated Humanitarian Aid at record speed, and secured the release of every living and deceased Hostage. Just last month, two dozen distinguished Founding Members joined me in Davos, Switzerland, to celebrate its official formation, and present a bold Vision for the Civilians in Gaza, and then, ultimately, far beyond Gaza — WORLD PEACE!” he wrote.

“On February 19th, 2026, I will again be joined by Board of Peace Members at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., where we will announce that Member States have pledged more than $5 BILLION DOLLARS toward the Gaza Humanitarian and Reconstruction efforts, and have committed thousands of personnel to the International Stabilization Force and Local Police to maintain Security and Peace for Gazans. Very importantly, Hamas must uphold its commitment to Full and Immediate Demilitarization. The Board of Peace will prove to be the most consequential International Body in History, and it is my honor to serve as its Chairman,” he added.”

In my younger days, that would be me – and it certainly was my mother! Not so much now – we avoid all things sugar as much as possible. The benefit? No more pre-diabetes and other chronic diseases. For the past four years, we have kept off the 40-50 pounds we each lost. How we do it isn’t rocket science…

  7. Just The News: “A dispute over alleged rule violations has become the focal point of the curling competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The controversy started last week after Swedish competitors alleged that players on Canada’s men’s curling team illegally made contact with a stone after releasing it. Officials refer to the infraction as a “double-touch,” which is not allowed once the stone has begun moving down the ice.

During a round-robin match Friday night, a Canadian curler denied the allegation after Swedish competitor Oskar Eriksson raised the issue on the ice. The exchange included an expletive-laden response from the Canadian player, who insisted he had done nothing wrong.

Although the Canadian men went on to win that game 8–6, the incident sparked broader scrutiny across the curling venue. Videos showing possible double-touch actions circulated widely on social media, further fueling debate about technique and enforcement.

The controversy expanded on Saturday when an umpire in Canada’s women’s match against Switzerland determined that a similar double-touch had occurred. In that contest, a stone thrown by Canadian skip Rachel Homan was removed from play amid dispute and protest, and the Swiss secured an 8–7 victory. Homan and her teammates expressed surprise at the call, challenging how it was made and questioning whether similar motions by other competitors went unnoticed.

A stone thrown by a British men’s team member was also removed from play for double-touching, demonstrating that the issue is not isolated to a single nation.

The sport’s governing body, World Curling, issued clarification on the rule, saying that players may not make contact with the stone’s granite surface after the release, even if the release motion has started. Umpires emphasized that such infringements justify removal of the stone from play.

Officials have announced increased surveillance of matches, with designated umpires monitoring multiple games to better enforce compliance. It remains unclear if all teams are being watched with the same scrutiny.

Video replay is reportedly not being used to overturn on-ice decisions.”

  8. Another beautiful sunny day, 69 but not much of a breeze, thankfully; with the sun, it feels warmer. I got the rest of the plastic taken down and the downspouts back up. Next on the agenda is to clean out the flower beds and rake up the willow branches, as well as cleaning up the wood left on the back patio. I can take all of that to the dump myself, where it will be burned.

  9. “New York family welcomes rare spontaneous quintuplets”

Not The Bee, Harriet Rigby, Feb 14, 2026

Image for article: New York family welcomes rare spontaneous quintuplets

“John and Jessica Lottbrein of West Seneca, New York, recently welcomed five healthy babies – three boys and two girls, after a very rare quintuplet pregnancy. The couple were already parents to two little girls, and decided to try for a third baby, so you can imagine their shock when baby number three ended up being babies number 3-7.

    Jessica told Fox61,

This was not IVF, I did not implant five embryos. It wasn’t the goal to try for multiples. When it happened, it was like fate. We’re meant to be the parents to quintuplets, I guess.

The quintuplets were born at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York, at just 28 weeks, five days gestation. The Lottbrein babies are only the second set of quintuplets to be born in Buffalo.

Associate medical director of the Golisano NICU, Valerie Elberson, said that the delivery was a major collaborative undertaking for their hospital, telling Fox61,

There were probably around 30 people in all specialties, including obstetrics, the NICU, nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, so several groups within our hospital that were there to help in just the planning stage of this.

The babies, named Holly, Mason, Stefan, Connor and Layla, all weighed under 3 pounds at birth and were immediately transferred to the NICU after their birth on December 18.

    Mom, Jessica, told WIVB,

The babies were given their own pod just because how many there are, and just walking into that pod, even the first time, and seeing all five babies, it was a shock to the whole system.

    WIVB

The babies remain in the NICU as of early February, but are all quickly gaining weight and preparing to join their older sisters at home. As for dad, John, he summarized the quintuplets saga, telling WIVB,

It’s been a journey, I wouldn’t change this for the world.”

    1. my cousin and his wife gave birth to multiple children. BOTH sides of the couple had twins in their family and she was on contraceptives early in their marriage and then when she decided it “was time” to have a child and didn’t get pregnant within 2 months (!!) she tried fertility drugs and bingo 4!

everyone was surprised (but me) and felt sorry for them. there were fundraisers for the new family (even though both were working and making over 250K a year.
