The Invention of Scotch Tape

A Brief History

On January 31, 1930, the 3M Company (then going by the name of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing) revealed Scotch Tape.  This product, consisting of clear cellophane tape with a pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side, would become a household and office necessity.

Digging Deeper

3M has since ridden the success of Scotch Tape to produce many products bearing the Scotch brand that have nothing to do with the original product, one example being the stain repellent Scotchguard.  3M first began advertising with the familiar tartan plaid (Wallace type) in 1945.  Today, many manufacturers produce adhesive tape, but most folks generically call these products “Scotch Tape” as well.  (Same as the Kleenex phenomenon.)

Pressure-sensitive or adhesive tape was invented by a surgeon in 1845, presumably for medical applications.  Since then, all sorts of material have been used as tape, with just as many types of adhesive.  These include: medical adhesive tape which comes in both cloth and plastic varieties; package-sealing tape; metal tape, iron-on hem tape; electrical tape; friction tape; sports grip tape; and, of course, the greatest friend of men everywhere, duct tape, which men use to fix EVERYTHING!

Some types of tape have to be moistened for the adhesive to work, while other types have to be heated.  Some types come with a layer over the sticky side that must be peeled off before use.  There are even double-sided sticky tapes for a variety of uses.

A simple roll of electrical tape, or insulating tape, in your glove compartment, tool box, tackle box, kitchen drawer or pocket can save a life as a temporary wound binder, can temporarily fix a leaky pipe or hose, can be used to make emergency repairs on clothing (especially raincoats), can get you at least double the life out of a wornout baseball and can be used for a million other vital things, including its primary use as an insulator for electrical wiring.  Same thing goes for duct tape which is probably the greatest auto body repair product ever made!  (On a budget, anyway…)

Not only is Scotch Tape handy for taping pieces of paper together, it makes a dandy light-duty lamination material for preserving clippings or small photos; and it can be used for posting toddler art on the fridge, labeling things, removing pet hair and lint from clothing and for all sorts of arts and crafts.  Available in numerous varieties, one of the most popular ones is the “invisible” type that seems to disappear when pressed firmly onto paper or an object.

It is hard to imagine what modern life would be like without all these types of tape, especially Scotch Tape, the king of them all.

  1. I’ve heard it stated that there are only two things you need on hand in order to fix most problems…WD40 and duct tape.
If it should move and doesn’t…….. use WD40.
If it moves and shouldn’t….. use DUCT TAPE

    1. I don’t think we got more snow overnight or, if we did, it wasn’t much. -3 here this morning. I removed the box since clearly Wheezer isn’t interested – he has been eating every day but I don’t see him since I’ve got the doors covered with a blanket because it’s so cold. I didn’t think ahead and should have bought insulated patio doors. Nothing in my in-box yet this morning…..

  2. Tim Walz just THREATENED Tom Homan that Minnesota could have a “Fort Sumter/John Brown moment” if he doesn’t reduce ICE presence. This is no longer protest talk. He’s implicitly saying this could be the OPENING SHOT of a BLOODY organized resistance against federal authority.

    ACTION ITEM: Judicial Corruption
    Judge Blocks Voter Verification

    Lex Greene
    Jan 31

Democrat District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, appointed to the bench by Bill Clinton in 1997, attempts to block efforts to make certain that only legal American Citizens are voting in U.S. Elections. In reviewing her ruling, I find that the basis for her ruling is in error, likely by intent, with political purpose.

    · “U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said the Constitution gives states and Congress, not the president, the power to set rules for federal elections.”

The problem with this foundation for her ruling is the fact that Trump’s EO did not “set any new rules” or create any new laws for U.S. Elections. It has always been illegal for any non-citizen to vote in U.S. Elections under laws long established by Congress.

To vote in U.S. federal, state, and local elections, you must meet the following requirements:

    • Be a U.S. citizen, including those born abroad to U.S. citizen parents or naturalized citizens.
    • Be at least 18 years old on or before Election Day.
    • Meet your state’s residency requirements.
    • Be registered to vote by your state’s deadline.
    • Not be currently incarcerated for a felony conviction.
    • Non-citizens, including lawful permanent residents (green card holders), cannot vote in federal or state elections.

Trump’s EO pertained only to enforcement of the laws long established by Congress. Therefore, the underlying foundation for District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly’s ruling today is without any legal foundation at all.

Despite many unconstitutional past practices by other Oval Office occupants, who used EO’s as if the Executive Branch is the legislative branch, and past court practices of “inventing laws from the bench” as if they are the legislative branch, Trump’s EO makes no attempt to create any new law or new rule, other than to order the enforcement of existing law.

Hi there. Former Intel guy who is also a former law enforcement guy here.

If Gabbard is on scene, it means that the FBI has found a foreign/counterintelligence nexus to the investigation into the 2020 election in Georgia; otherwise they’d be reporting to Bondi and DOJ.

Gabbard was very likely able to discern the relevant gist from the documents recovered because she already knew what they contained before she ever arrived.

Let me explain a bit further.

To get a search warrant, a Federal Magistrate—one with no ties to Trump, and in fact a resume filled with Legal Aid and Public Defense—found probable cause that evidence of a crime existed in the narrow scope of what was being requested via search warrant. Considering how not-narrow of scope that warrant actually turned out to be, and Gabbard’s involvement, we can deduce several things.

First, that there is already a substantial case that some serious crime occurred and that this is not anywhere near the first evidence they’ve collected. Getting such a warrant from such a Magistrate would be essentially impossible otherwise; we can’t even get a similarly situated Magistrate to provide the pro forma signature on a Complaint related to Don Lemon committing several felonies on public video, with numerous admissions and confessions. Let’s not pretend here.

Second, that the foreign nexus has probably already been getting plugged away at with the foreign-oriented intelligence apparatus for some time. It is probable, I’d hazard a guess, that a FISA warrant or two have been employed.

Gabbard already knew exactly what they were looking for and she wanted to be on scene for its recovery.

TL;DR — Somebody, somewhere, someday soon is completely f*cked.

    I’ll save conjecture for a follow-on post.

More evidence of judicial corruption and Michigan political corruption.

BLACK ROBE CORRUPTION: Michigan Judge and Three Co-Conspirators Accused of Looting Hundreds of Thousands from Incapacitated

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2026/01/black-robe-corruption-michigan-judge-three-co-conspirators/

Another bombshell indictment has ripped the mask off America’s so-called “justice system,” and this time the rot allegedly runs straight through the black robe.
Federal prosecutors have charged four Detroit-area insiders, including a sitting Michigan judge, in what authorities describe as a years-long scheme to loot incapacitated individuals and their estates, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from people the court was supposed to protect.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the defendants are:

    Nancy Williams, 59
    Attorney Avery Bradley, 72
    Judge Andrea Bradley-Baskin, 46
    Dwight Rashad, 69

Bradley-Baskin is the daughter of Avery Bradley and currently serves as a judge on Michigan’s 36th District Court.

Bradley-Baskin is a district judge on Michigan’s 36th District Court.

Investigators said Nancy Williams owned Guardian and Associates, an agency that was appointed as a fiduciary by the Wayne County Probate Court for incapacitated wards in over 1,000 cases.

Avery Bradley is an attorney, who, along with his daughter and fellow attorney Bradley-Baskin, operated a law firm that often represented Guardian and Associates in Wayne County Probate Court and worked in that court.

Dwight Rashad operated a series of group homes and residential facilities for elderly individuals, including wards, who needed support and care.

“We respect the authority that covers a black robe. This state judge and her cronies allegedly abused that high honor for personal gain by preying on the needy protected by the court. This would be a grievous abuse of our public trust,” said U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon.

  6. “Peaceful ICE Arrest Of 650 Aliens In West Virginia Proves Dems Are Manufacturing Chaos In Minnesota — Tim Walz and many other Democrats in Minnesota bear heavy responsibility for the deaths of two Minnesotans and for putting the lives of federal law enforcement at risk.”

The Federalist, By: Breccan F. Thies, January 30, 2026

    ICE

EXCERPTS: “Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just arrested nearly 700 illegal aliens in West Virginia with the help of local law enforcement, showing the stark contrast between state and local police supporting immigration enforcement and the Democrat-run catastrophe in Minnesota.

ICE announced Friday that it arrested 650 illegals, including those who allegedly engaged in child sex abuse, drug possession, endangering the welfare of children, and other offenses.

Teams from ICE Philadelphia performed the operation, deploying to six cities in West Virginia to arrest “hundreds of illegal aliens who present dangers to national security and risks to public safety, as well as those who entered the United States illegally or have otherwise undermined the integrity of U.S. immigration laws and border control efforts,” the press release states.

“When state and local law enforcement work with ICE, immigration enforcement is seamless — it all takes place behind closed doors between law enforcement professionals, and that’s why the public never hears about it,” ICE Director Todd M. Lyons told The Federalist. “On the other hand, when law enforcement agencies refuse to turn over public safety threats, it forces ICE to arrest criminal illegal aliens in public. These arrests are going to happen regardless, so for state and local police, it makes more sense to keep the public safe and conserve resources by working with us instead of against us.”

ICE utilized 287(g) partnerships, which allow the federal agency to delegate immigration enforcement to state and local authorities, under ICE supervision and training. That allows local police to identify and help remove illegals.

“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has just completed a two-week operation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” Jefferson County Sheriff Tom Hansen said in the press release. “The Sheriff’s Office was impressed with the professionalism and work ethic of the agents and how well they interacted with the citizens and local law enforcement officers…..”

“…..I want to thank the men and women of ICE for their outstanding partnership with various state entities, including the State Police, and their tireless work here in West Virginia,” Morrisey said. “Through our collaboration under the 287(g) program, they have removed dangerous illegal immigrants from our communities and made our state safer for families and law-abiding citizens.”

Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., and many other Democrats in Minnesota, on the other hand, bear heavy responsibility both for the deaths of two Minnesotans — Renee Good and Alex Pretti — and also for putting the lives of federal law enforcement at risk, by encouraging doxxing, intimidation, and obstruction from violent leftists. Walz and Democrat Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have summarily refused to allow state and local law enforcement to work with ICE, even to the point of refusing to answer emergency calls from off-duty federal officers surrounded by the violent mobs they have fomented, according to Vice President J.D. Vance.”

  7. “The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released its preliminary report on the December 18, 2025, plane crash that killed NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, his family, and five others. The Cessna Citation 550 crashed approximately 400 feet short of the runway at Statesville Regional Airport, about nine minutes after takeoff.

Dennis Dutton, a retired airline pilot and the plane’s owner, was the primary pilot in the left seat.  His adult son, Jack Dutton, was in the right seat but was not qualified to serve as a second-in-command on the Cessna Citation 550 due to lack of required endorsements and insufficient flight experience (175.3 hours).  Greg Biffle, a private pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings, was a rear passenger and did not fly the aircraft.

The report details a series of instrument failures beginning shortly after takeoff:

    • A thrust reverser indicator light was inoperative during taxi.
    • The left engine was producing more power than the right, and a faulty gauge was suspected.
    • The altitude indicator and other left-side flight instruments failed around 10:10 a.m.
    • The Garmin GTN-750 navigation system stopped recording airspeed and heading data.
    • The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) audio quality degraded, indicating possible electrical issues.
    • Control was transferred to Jack Dutton around 10:11 a.m., but he did not report any instrument issues on the right side.
    • Dennis Dutton resumed control by 10:13 a.m., requested flaps and landing gear deployment, but the gear indicator lights did not illuminate.
    • A brief audio clip indicated Dutton said the “problem” was solved, but did not specify what it was.
    • The CVR and GPS data ended at 10:15:23 a.m., the moment of impact.

The crash site showed the first point of impact was a runway approach light system, followed by a debris path through trees and over the runway overrun area. The aircraft did not break apart before impact, and a post-crash fire consumed most of the fuselage. No evidence of engine failure or structural failure was found.

The NTSB emphasized that the preliminary report does not assign blame and that a full investigation, including probable cause, will take 12–18 months.”

  11. Just The News: “The Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into an incident this week in which climate protesters stormed a Jewish synagogue where a Democrat congressman was speaking, signaling an aggressive effort to protect houses of worship from vile intrusions from leftist activists.

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the probe in a statement Saturday to Just the News. “We are investigating this case and will continue to actively investigate any house of worship that is disrupted,” Bondi said.

The decision to probe the intrusion by the group Climate Defiance at a Long Island synagogue in Roslyn, N.Y., comes days after DOJ charged three activists — including former CNN anchor Don Lemon — for invading a Christian church service in Minnesota. Both incidents involved increasingly aggressive leftist activists who are protesting the Trump administration’s arrests of illegal aliens nationwide.

The most recent episode targeted Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi over his initial vote to back a GOP-led spending bill that directed more federal funding to ICE’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Video footage showed Suozzi was speaking Wednesday night when activists from Climate Defiance stormed the synagogue with diapers and kneepads while cursing and making vile comments. Climate Defiance called Suozzi a “hideous, grotesque, fascist-loving coward” with “blood on his hands” in a social post.

The New York probe will be slightly different than the Minnesota case, where a worship service was underway.  Wednesday’s event involved a speech by a politician hosted by a house of worship.”

    1. ICE is an outgrowth of US paranoia after 9/11, during the GW Bush administration. Baby Bush got the “Patriot Act” passed, too to shut down the free flow of information between people living here. The US of A is too big, like a cancer. When cancer or any cell culture grows too large for its manageable air, food, water, or nutrient supply, it must evolve or collapse from within.

This complaint Missouri just brought against the federal government challenging the constitutionality of counting illegal aliens in the census marks at least the 2nd pending case on this matter.

    It is hugely consequential.

Like so many horrible things, the plaintiffs point back to the Carter administration for how we ended up in a place where House seats are apportioned, electoral college votes are divvied up, and legislative districts broadly are drawn to effectively represent millions of people who should not be in our country

  14. Just The News: “On Saturday, a federal judge refused Minnesota’s bid to halt the Trump administration’s expanded immigration enforcement operation in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, leaving in place the deployment of thousands of ICE and Border Patrol agents.

Minnesota state officials had asked the court for an emergency injunction to stop “Operation Metro Surge,” a surge of roughly 3,000 federal immigration officers that they argued went beyond lawful federal authority and violated state sovereignty.

They had accused the administration of using enforcement as political leverage against the predominantly Democratic state, alleging civil-rights violations and disproportionate targeting.

“Plaintiffs ask the Court to extend existing precedent to a new context where its application is less direct — namely, to an unprecedented deployment of armed federal immigration officers to aggressively enforce immigration statutes,” U.S. District Judge Katherine Menendez wrote in the decision.

“None of the cases on which they rely have even come close,” the judge added.”

“Your magazine has reported this too, that the state of Delaware and Washington DC canceled the registrations for Omar’s husband’s investment firm, Rose lake for not paying its back taxes,” she said.

“We saw it owed more than 400,000 to Delaware and nearly 1800 to DC. She’s claiming it’s worth 25 million from less than a grand a year before. How can his investment firm not afford to pay taxes? It’s supposedly worth an estimated 75 million. 100 50 million. This is really weird stuff.”

  18. Just The News: “Never-before-seen emails were included in the newly-released Jeffrey Epstein case files on Friday. The emails from the U.S. Justice Department files show the convicted sex criminal gave former Obama White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler luxury gifts, including a Hermes-branded Apple Watch, a $9,400 Hermes handbag, and a spa treatment package at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Correspondence between Washington Commanders and Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris and Epstein were included in the latest files released. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Harris had correspondence with Epstein after his guilty plea in 2008 for solicitation of prostitution with a minor, but prior to his arrest on child sex trafficking charges in 2019.

Reacting to the release of the files, a spokesperson for Harris said the businessman “never had an independent relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.” He said Harris had “sought to avoid meeting with Epstein, canceling meetings and having others return his calls.” Based on the emails released, it appears Harris met with Epstein in November 2014.

“Did you have fun at breakfast?” Epstein wrote to Harris. “Yes very much,” he responded. “Thank you for inviting me.”

Epstein mentioned the meeting in a later email with Bank of America president Paul Morris. “as you might know I had a recent breadkfst at the hosue with ron baron. josh harris, and billgates,” Epstein wrote in January 2015.

Newly disclosed communications showed that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick coordinated a trip to Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, Little St. James, in December 2012. The emails indicate Lutnick and his family, along with friends and children, arranged to meet Epstein for a meal on the island. Based on the correspondence, which is part of a large document release mandated by Congress, the visit took place several years after Lutnick previously said he had ended contact with Epstein following an uncomfortable encounter in 2005. In public statements last year, Lutnick described Epstein as manipulative and said he and his wife chose to avoid him thereafter.

Records also show other interactions between Lutnick and Epstein dating back to at least 2011, including social engagements and communications about shared interests. A subsequent message from Epstein’s team, sent after the 2012 gathering, read “nice seeing you,” according to the documents released on Friday. A Commerce Department spokesperson stressed that Lutnick was never accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and characterized his interactions as limited and social.

The files also revealed that Epstein tried to set up businessman Steve Tisch, the New York Giants owner, with women. Tisch asked in one email from June 10, 2013 if one of the women was a “working girl.” The woman he was referring to in the email was a “tahitian” woman named “Emily” who Epstein wrote “speaks mostly french, exotic.”

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani mother, Mira Nair, a film director, appears in the documents. Nair attended an after party at convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell’s house for her film “Amelia.” Former President Bill Clinton and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos also attended, according to an email that was sent by publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein on Oct. 21, 2009.

Casey Wasserman, the 51-year-old CEO of Wasserman Media Group, who is heading the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, appears in risqué email exchanges with Maxwell. The New York Post reported that the email exchanges occurred about two years into his marriage with then-wife Laura Ziffren.

“Where are you, I miss you,” he wrote on Apr. 1, 2003. “I will be in NYC for 4 days starting april 22…can we book that massage now?” Maxwell responded, writing, “All that rubbing — are you sure you can take it? The thought frankly is leaving me a little breathless.”

She also wrote: “There are a few spots that apparently drive a man wild — I suppose I could practise them on you and you could let me know if they work or not?”

The incident unfolded shortly after the parade began, sending attendees running for cover as shots rang out along the crowded route. Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel rushed to the scene to treat those struck by gunfire.

Among the injured was a child who was reported to be in critical condition. Five others also suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement detained at least one suspect, and investigators were actively searching for an associated vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting.
