    However, DHS also defended its practice of taking “collateral” migrants into custody whenever they find them.

    “We aren’t some medieval kingdom; there are no legal sanctuaries where you can hide and avoid the consequences for breaking the law,” DHS said in a statement, according to WBBM-TV. “Nothing in the Constitution prohibits arresting a lawbreaker where you find them.”

Satyam admitted that he was inspired to “fight wildfires” at Davos in 2020. That inspiration turned into a business model: $50,000 per tower, per year, sold not just to governments but to utilities, HOAs, and resorts. Subscribers can tap into feeds covering millions of acres. Kastner has been explicit about her company’s vision. In a podcast interview, she explained that Pano did a “gap analysis” between military surveillance technology and what firefighters currently have — and decided to close the gap. Translation: they’re importing Pentagon-grade surveillance into American forests, then telling us it’s for our own good. No wonder the World Economic Forum gave Pano its “Trillion Trees” award. Their white paper makes no secret of the vision: forests blanketed with not just cameras, but microphones, drones, and mesh networks — every acre wired and listening.

    Of course, the sales pitch is always “safety.” Who doesn’t want to stop fires early? But history is clear: whenever the government says “for your safety,” look out. The Patriot Act was for our safety. Warrantless surveillance was for our safety. And now, 24/7 camera networks run by private contractors are “for our safety.” Meanwhile, the same government agencies that cry “emergency” do little about the fuel loads, thinning backlogs, and bureaucratic delays that make wildfires worse. If safety were the true goal, Congress would be funding forest management and community firebreaks. Instead, they’re subsidizing high-tech snooping.

    And once the cameras are in place, “mission creep” is inevitable. Today the AI looks for smoke. Tomorrow, it could track zoning compliance, vegetation codes, even individual vehicles and faces. Don’t take my word for it — just ask the lawyers suing Flock Safety in Virginia over license plate readers that store information for weeks at a time. Courts are already warning that long-term, warrantless tracking crosses constitutional lines. Pano AI is orders of magnitude bigger.

    Beyond privacy, S.1462 creates a glaring national security risk. These cameras sweep 10-20 miles, covering low-level military training routes, installations, and exercises. If hacked — and everything can be hacked — adversaries would have access to real-time reconnaissance of U.S. military activity without spending a dime. Ask yourself: has Pano AI been vetted by the Pentagon or DHS? Do their employees undergo full background checks? Does anyone know who has access to the raw data? The answers are either “no” or “trust us.” And when a company brags about ISO 27001 compliance, remember: that’s an IT framework, not a guarantee that the AI itself is secure, auditable, or hack-proof.

    What’s at stake here is not just firefighting policy. It’s the nature of freedom itself. Already, our homes are filled with listening devices — Alexa, Siri, “smart” fridges, hacked Ring cameras. Now they want to put Alexa in the woods, listening to your campfire conversations and logging your license plate as you drive to a trailhead. Colorado is proof that this is not theoretical. Over a million acres are already under surveillance. Families hiking, hunters stalking elk, kids roasting marshmallows — all of it is swept up in a system that exists to enrich a private company and empower government subscribers.

    Wildfires are real. But so is liberty. And if we let the Senate rush through S.1462, we may discover too late that the greater danger wasn’t fire, but the system we built to watch for it. So the next time you go camping, remember this: the real sparks aren’t in the trees. They’re in the surveillance towers, quietly turning freedom into data. And unlike the campfire, those sparks won’t go out in the morning.

    ENTIRE ARTICLE: “No kings? More like no young people. On Saturday, several so-called “No Kings” protests took place across the country. The protests looked more like an AARP meeting, with NBC Boston perhaps encapsulating the state of the protests best: “This is an older crowd … A lot of white hair. You see Q-Tips as we used to call them in the business … not a lot of young people.”

    Videos and photos circulating on social media appear to show mostly older men and women protesting Trump. Occasionally there appeared to be middle-aged women. But finding young people in the crowd was rare. That means the red warning lights for Democrats are only blinking faster.

    Last November, Gen Z voters moved toward the right. A study from CIRCLE found the youth vote was “more Republican and conservative in 2024” and that “Economy was the top youth issue” which “drove youth vote for Trump.” That trend has only continued, with a recent Decision Desk HQ study finding “Gen Z appears to be charting a different political course than Millennials” and that based on registration, Gen Z is “the most pro-GOP generation alive.”

    Meanwhile Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist University Institute for Public Opinion, told NPR that Trump is “making connections with people who are very dissatisfied with the way things are. And therefore, being a candidate who’s going to disrupt and change things is a major attraction for a hunk of the electorate that is feeling that economic stress.”

    “That’s perhaps most profound with younger people,” Miringoff continued.

    In particular, Democrats are struggling to register young men. A study from Speaking with American Men (SAM) may have found the reason why, with young men thinking “Democrats don’t want to invest” in them. SAM found young men believe that Democrats — as described by Politico — are “overly-scripted and cautious, while Republicans are seen as confident and unafraid to offend.”

    “Democrats are seen as weak, whereas Republicans are seen as strong,” SAM co-founder Ilyse Hogue told Politico. “Young men also spoke of being invisible to the Democratic coalition, and so you’ve got this weak problem and then you’ve got this, ‘I don’t think they care about me’ problem, and I think the combination is kind of a killer.”

    The memo also found young men feel they are in a “no-win situation around the meaning of ‘a man’” and that “traditional milestones” like buying a home or putting away money for kids’ colleges “feel impossible.”

    So what have Democrats decided to do about it? Hold protests against President Donald Trump across the country. Democrats are doubling down on talking points that are about as old and tired as their geriatric base. And they don’t attract young voters. While young men in particular are struggling to pay rent, save, and find direction, Democrats are out protesting an imaginary threat.

    The Democrat Party — which once relied on the youth vote to deliver it election wins — is now looking more like the party of “Old Man Yells at Cloud.” Democrats can keep focusing on “No Kings” all they want, but they should really be concerned about “No Youths.”

  11. Just The News: “An education organization filed a racial discrimination complaint with the U.S. Department of Education over black-only classes at Minneapolis Public Schools. The organization, Defending Education, filed the complaint on Friday, alleging that MPS has violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

    “Several MPS high schools prohibit white and Asian students from enrolling in certain courses on black culture,” according to the complaint. “The courses count toward MPS’s electives requirement, meaning that white and Asian students must choose from a narrower list of class options in order to graduate.”

    There are two courses, one for black male students and another for black female students, called “BLACK Culture – Building Lives Acquiring Cultural Knowledge,” per the complaint.

    The male version of the class claims to “examin[e] the complexity of the black male experience by exploring the lived reality of black men in the United States,” while the female version claims to “examine the experiences of Black girls in public schools while celebrating, embracing, and developing cultural identity, sisterhood, and self-advocacy,” the complaint reads.

    “Race-segregated classrooms clearly qualify as such discrimination and are thus incompatible with the ‘color-blind’ mandate of Title VI and the Equal Protection Clause. As such, MPS’s segregated classrooms are clear violations of both Title VI and the 14th Amendment,” according to the complaint. “For these reasons, Defending Education respectfully asks OCR to open a civil rights investigation into MPS for potential violations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Protection Clause.”

    Sarah Parshall Perry, Vice President and Legal Fellow at Defending Education, released a statement on Monday regarding the complaint, saying, “With an exercise that mirrors the efforts of 1950’s segregationists in the deep south, Minneapolis Public Schools has proven that the racism of old is new again.

    “In a jaw-dropping experiment in race essentialism, South High School in Minneapolis offered classes on the ‘lived reality’ of black men and women in the US — classes that were open only to black students. It was our work unearthing the syllabuses of these classes that proved MPS is engaging in the kind of school programming that the Supreme Court outlawed in 1954 with its decision in Brown v. Board of Education. The Constitution demands color blindness, as does Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. MPS seems to have forgotten that, and it’s high time they get a much-needed refresher.”

  18. Just The News: “The plans for a summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest were put on hold after Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to a report.

    The summit on the war in Ukraine was announced last week, but a date had not been set. The decision to put the plans on hold was made after a call between Rubio and Lavrov, an unnamed U.S. official told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

    Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated Tuesday there was no sense of urgency for the meeting to occur, saying that “preparation is needed, serious preparation.”

    Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Putin returned to diplomacy and talked to Trump last week when there was a possibility that the U.S. would supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles.

    But “as soon as the pressure eased a little, the Russians began to try to drop diplomacy, postpone the dialogue,” Zelensky said Tuesday in a Telegram post. “We need to end this war, and only pressure will lead to peace,” he added.”

Just The News: “House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Tuesd referred former Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution, alleging Brennan knowingly made false statements during his transcribed interview before the panel in 2023.

    Jordan, an Ohio Republican, says Brennan made “numerous willfully and intentionally false statements of material fact” that were contradicted by the record established by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the CIA.

    Such statements included the assertion the CIA relied on the so-called Steele dossier in drafting the post-2016 election Intelligence Community Assessment, Jordan says in his letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi.

    The dossier was essentially opposition research, financed at least in part by Democrats, that the 2016 Trump campaign colluded with Russia to win the election. The dossier, which in part led to efforts to impeach President Trump, has since been laregedly discredited.

    Steele delivered his dossier to the FBI in 2016, and a summary of its allegations was appended to an intelligence community assessment, which was ordered by outgoing President Barack Obama after Trump was first elected — about Russia’s involvement in that year’s presidential campaign, according to Politico.

    Jordan also said in a press release announcing the DOJ referral that Brennan falsely testified when he told the committee that the CIA opposed including the Steele dossier in the Intelligence Community Assessment.”

  23. Just The News: “Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson on Tuesday announced her office has completed its review of the state’s voter registration list against citizenship data in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ SAVE database.

    Nelson said she has identified over 2,000 potential noncitizens, who possibly voted illegally in recent state elections. The list of potential noncitizens have been turned over to local counties, who will conduct their own investigations into the eligibility of the identified voters.

    Those the state believes voted in a state election illegally will be referred to the Office of the Attorney General for prosecution. 

    “Only eligible United States citizens may participate in our elections,” Nelson said. “The Trump Administration’s decision to give states free and direct access to this data set for the first time has been a game changer, and we appreciate the partnership with the federal government to verify the citizenship of those on our voter rolls and maintain accurate voter lists.

    “Everyone’s right to vote is sacred and must be protected,” she continued. “We encourage counties to conduct rigorous investigations to determine if any voter is ineligible — just as they do with any other data set we provide. The SAVE database has proven to be a critically important data set and one of many that we will continue to use in Texas to ensure that only qualified voters cast a ballot in our elections.”

    Nelson said a total of 2,724 potential noncitizens were identified in the state probe out of a list of 18 million voters.

    The potential noncitizens will be sent letters notifying them of the finding, which they will have 30 days to respond to with proof of citizenship in order to remain a registered voter. If the deadline is missed, the registration will be canceled. But it can be restored when proof of citizenship is presented.”

        1. pictures are very much her thing right now. my brother brought in one tiny photo album for her to look at–she has 20 regular sized ones he could bring in a different one a week and rotate them. but no she has the same tiny album. sigh
