What Shall We Bake Today?

Today is National Zucchini Bread Day and so I present my favorite zucchini bread recipe. This recipe makes 2 loaves and it freezes well.

Ingredients

3 large eggs

2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup vegetable oil

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 cups grated zucchini about 2 small

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Grease two 8×4-inch loaf pans or line with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, beat 3 eggs till frothy. Add sugar, oil and vanilla.  Beat till thick and lemon colored.

Stir in zucchini.

Mix flour, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda.  Add to first mixture.

Add the chopped nuts if desired.

Divide the batter evenly over the prepared pans and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool in the pans for 5 minutes, remove from the pans, and cool on a wire rack.

Enjoy!

  4. Just The News: “First son Eric Trump on Thursday shared a link to the Trump store that appeared to tease a third term for President Donald Trump, with hats and shirts that read “Trump 2028 (rewrite the rules).”

The president has floated that there are ways for him to run for a nearly unprecedented third term, which has only been achieved by the late President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and which is now prohibited under the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

President Trump has not specified how he would be able to skirt the 22nd Amendment, except to acknowledge that Vice President JD Vance running, winning and then allowing Trump to be president is a possibility.

The Trump store website charges $50 for the Trump 2028 hat, and $36 for the shirts. “The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat,” a description of the item reads. “Fully embroidered with a snap closure in the back, this will become your new go-to hat.”

One lawmaker, Tennessee GOP Rep. Andy Ogles, has suggested making it possible for presidents to serve three terms if they do not serve more than two terms back to back. This would allow Trump to seek a third term, because of the gap in his presidencies.”

  5. Just The News: “Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Thursday warned states that they could lose critical federal funding for infrastructure projects if they continue to fund diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs or infringe on the administration’s immigration policies.

The threat comes as the Trump administration cracks down on states that do not align with President Donald Trump’s America First policies. The administration targeted Maine recently over its refusal to ban transgender athletes from competing in female sports.

Duffy notified states of the new policy in a letter that was addressed to “all recipients of Department of Transportation (DOT) funding.”

“Federal grants come with a clear obligation to adhere to federal laws,” Duffy said in a statement released with the letter. “It shouldn’t be controversial — enforce our immigration rules, end anti-American DEI policies and protect free speech. These values reflect the priorities of the American people, and I will take action to ensure compliance.”

The secretary reminded states that they have entered a legal agreement with the federal government to comply with all applicable regulations and laws, and that the government can pull funding if the recipients are not in compliance.

“[The department] will award and continue to provide Federal financial assistance only to those recipients who comply with their legal obligations,” he wrote in the letter. “DOT remains committed to advancing a transportation system that serves the public interest efficiently and unleashes economic prosperity and a superior quality of life for American families.

“This mission depends upon your strict adherence to the legal framework governing our partnership, and I trust you will take all necessary steps to comply with Federal law and satisfy your legal obligations,” he added.”

EL SALVADOR — As Trump’s deportation efforts continue, leaders from several South American countries have expressed their outrage at having their sovereign countries flooded by an influx of their own citizens.

According to leaders from Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Venezuela, Trump’s deportations are unjustly violating their countries’ rights to not be flooded by their own citizens.

“We cannot sustain the tidal wave of our own citizens coming back over our borders,” complained Colombian President Gustavo Petro. “Colombia is being overrun by all the violent, criminal, rapist Colombian citizens Trump is funneling into our country. His immigration policies must be stopped right away.”

Other South American leaders agreed, noting that Trump’s deportations have single-handedly increased their countries’ gang violence, civil unrest, and drug abuse by giving their own citizens back to them.

“If Trump doesn’t stop pumping our own citizens back into our countries, he’ll soon find out,” Petro said. “Tariffs on tortillas are going up big time, buster Trump. Big time.”

At publishing time, several South American countries had warned that they would make an even bigger fuss about it if Trump didn’t stop the deportations right away.

SLIDELL, LA — According to sources, the children of local father Jaxon Holt are completely ignorant of how cool their dad is.

Holt, who has a steady job working in business insurance and drives a Honda Fit, loves his children dearly and even picks them up from school on occasion. Yet they reportedly have no idea how cool that is.

“I don’t know how I can convince them,” he said as he built yet another scale model of the HMS Titanic. “I’m the coolest guy I know. Did you know that when the Titanic sank it actually went down with a slight list to starboard? I do.”

Despite how cool Holt is, his kids routinely roll their eyes at their dad for doing cool things like answering obscure movie trivia or wearing cargo shorts.

“I love my dad, but he’s a total nerd,” said Billy Holt, age 15, despite the fact their father has read every book ever written by Clive Cussler. “Not cool at all.”

At publishing time, Jaxon Holt taught his kids how to change the oil in their cars but they still don’t think he’s cool for some reason.

  11. “India And Pakistan Are On The Brink Of War”

Daily Caller, Chuck DeVore, April 25, 2025

    TOPSHOT-PAKISTAN-POLITICS-INDEPENDENCE-DAY

(Photo by RIZWAN TABASSUM/AFP via Getty Images)

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “India and Pakistan appear ready for conflict, with tensions triggered by a terrorist attack on Indian citizens on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir. India has good reason to believe that the attack originated in Pakistan from terror bases the Pakistani government knows about and supports. Prime Minister Modi of India will likely respond to the attack militarily. The question is, does Pakistan respond and might the situation escalate?

    Historical Context and Current Tensions

India and Pakistan’s relationship has been marked by conflict since their 1947 partition, with Kashmir as a central dispute. The April attack, claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terrorist group, killed at least 26 and injured 17.

Symbolically, the attack came only a day after the arrival of Vice President J.D. Vance for a four-day trip to India with his family. The timing was most assuredly not coincidental.

India’s response has been swift and severe—suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, cutting off water to Pakistan, expelling Pakistani nationals, and recalling Indian citizens. India’s next likely step is to strike terror camps in Pakistan.

    Likelihood of Pakistani Response

Given the nuclear capabilities of both nations, any military action by India, such as striking terror camps, is likely to provoke a response from Pakistan. Past Indian airstrikes, like the 2019 Balakot strike, led to Pakistani retaliation. This tit-for-tat may lower the threshold for violent conflict. The water cutoff, an asymmetrical escalation, could compel Pakistan to retaliate to maintain domestic legitimacy, especially under pressure from internal instability given the large share of Pakistan’s population engaged in agriculture which is, in turn, dependent on water that originates in Indian territory.

    The Baloch Independence Movement

The Baloch people’s agitation for independence from Pakistan adds another layer of complexity. Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, has seen a long-standing separatist movement due to economic marginalization and human rights abuses. The current crisis could embolden separatists, with India accused by Pakistan of supporting them, though India denies this. If the movement gains traction during heightened tensions, it could destabilize Pakistan further, potentially drawing in external actors and complicating regional dynamics.

    China’s Alliance and Strategic Calculations

China’s relationship with Pakistan is deep, rooted in shared hostility toward India and formalized through projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. During past India-Pakistan conflicts, such as the 1965 war, China was prepared to intervene on behalf of Pakistan. In the current scenario, China is likely to support Pakistan diplomatically or militarily. Further, China’s long and disputed border with India in the Himalayas may offer another avenue to pressure India to back off a serious confrontation with Pakistan.

Could China see an India-Pakistan conflict as a diversion to act against Taiwan? The self-ruled democracy of Taiwan, only 90 miles away from China at its closest point, has seen increasing military pressure from China in the air and seas around the island. If India is preoccupied, it might be less able to contribute to Indo-Pacific security efforts, part of the Quad (U.S., Japan, Australia, India), potentially reducing opposition to Chinese actions. Additionally, a U.S. focus on South Asia could divert resources from the Taiwan Strait, possibly emboldening China. However, any Chinese action against Taiwan is a high-risk move, requiring careful calculation of an American and allied response and international backlash, and it’s unclear if an India-Pakistan conflict would provide a decisive advantage for China.

    Strategic Implications and U.S. Policy

For the U.S., balancing support for India, a key partner against China, with preventing nuclear conflict in South Asia is critical. Diplomacy is essential to de-escalate tensions and maintain stability after a needed Indian response to the terror attack on its soil. Even so, a larger Indo-Pakistan conflict may be in the offing.”

Crockett said Saturday that she believed alleged MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia was “less criminal” than Trump. In addition to allegedly being a member of MS-13, Garcia’s wife has also accused her husband of physically abusing her.

“So, they are lowering the bar on what’s permissible. And we’re going to see something like we saw with these two assassin [ation] [attempts],” Hanson added. “I don’t want to predict it; I hope it never happens.”

“But if they keep this language up and you start to see polls that say 50% of self-identified leftists think it’s okay to shoot, and you see them romanticizing a assassin [allegedly] like [Luigi] Mangione, and you see them go fund an alleged murderer like Karmelo Anthony and basically saying that he was a victim and you see this [alleged] MS-13 wife beater who was pulled over for trafficking and let go and was found — yes, everybody, he was found by a immigration judge to have MS-13 ties,” he continued. “Even his wife did not deny it. She didn’t deny that she was beaten by him either.”

Data released April 7 by the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) found “48% and 55%” of “left of center” people “at least somewhat justifying murder for Elon Musk and President Trump, respectively.”

Hanson said left-wing support for people like Abrego Garcia, Mangione, and Anthony shows a pattern. “They all have one thing in common: They all have [allegedly] committed violent acts and they’re romanticized … my point is that they are creating a climate of fear and legitimizing violence and something’s going to happen,” Hanson said. “And I think they want that to happen, this hardcore wing. When you keep saying all of these things, all of these things, it’s cumulative. And it’s not good. We’ll see where it leads to.”

  13. EXCERPT: “….For business owners like me, the choice is clear. Would I rather hire someone who clawed their way through night school to earn a GED or a Harvard grad who spent four years mastering identity politics in an echo chamber of privilege? One understands the real America—its challenges, its values, its resilience. The other has been taught to resent it.

A quiet revolution is unfolding across the country. Employers, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and the military are actively seeking out those who bypassed the four-year indoctrination camps of elite universities. These individuals aren’t being taught that math is racist or that America is inherently evil. They’re learning practical, tangible skills—how to build, fix, create, and contribute. They’re the backbone of a new American economy.

Contrast this with Harvard and its peers, where academic merit often takes a backseat to virtue signaling and ideological conformity. Dissent is punished, not debated. The goal isn’t to prepare students for meaningful careers but to churn out activists. Harvard isn’t producing the next generation of leaders—it’s mass-producing professional victims.

While Harvard graduates don crimson robes at commencement, GED holders are building the stages they walk on—and earning good money doing it. A Harvard degree, once a near-guarantee of success, is now a red flag. Imagine that.

The future of American innovation, leadership, and resilience lies not in Ivy League lecture halls but in garages, job sites, and community colleges. A GED doesn’t just certify knowledge—it often reflects character, determination, and a refusal to be swayed by dogma.

In today’s economy, those traits are worth more than any diploma.

Here’s to the welders, coders, mechanics, and entrepreneurs who chose hard work over debt and indoctrination. They’re not just the future of this country—they’re its present. Harvard? It’s a relic of a bygone era.”

  18. One-third of D.C. district judges were not born in the United States, had no prior judicial experience when appointed

Of all the judges in the U.S. all five foreign-born judges of the D.C. court managed to get their fingerprints on controversial Trump cases.

The United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the source of many of the cases interfering with President Donald Trump’s authority, has 15 judges, (Counting Chief Judge James Boasberg) and five of them were born outside the United States.

While country of origin doesn’t come up in most jobs, it is worth asking if judges with ties to foreign nations and cultures are the right ones to make decisions affecting the U.S. military or immigration.

The concept of foreign-born judges is a newer phenomenon in this district. In addition to the 15 main judges, the D.C. District has 10 older, senior judges who still occasionally hear cases in the district. This group, nominated as far back as Ronald Reagan the 1980s, were all born in the U.S.

    Judge Chutkan
© Diego M. Radzinschi / ALMU.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan
But starting in 2014, former President Barack Obama appointed Judge Tanya Sue Chutkan, born in Kingston, Jamaica. She was in the U.S. by 1979, attending George Washington University. Before sitting on federal court, she had no experience as a judge. Chutkan is overseeing the legal challenge to DOGE’s work to slash excess government spending.

    Judge Amit Mehta
    Judge Amit Mehta
Obama also appointed Judge Amit P. Mehta to the D.C. court. Mehta also had no previous experience as a judge. Mehta was born in Patan, Gujarat, India. He and his parents came to the U.S. when he was a baby, age one. He was raised in Maryland. Mehta will oversee four January 6 civil cases that aim to blame Trump for injuries and squeeze money, court time, and political embarrassment out of him.

The other three foreign born judges were nominated by former President Joe Biden.

Judge Ana Cecilia Reyes was nominated in 2021, also with no prior experience as a judge. She was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and moved to Spain, and while still a child, moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where she grew up. She is the first openly LGBT Latina to be appointed to this court. Reyes presided over an objection to Trump’s executive order declaring “gender dysphoria” as “inconsistent” with the “high standards for troop readiness,” as The Federalist’s Shawn Fleetwood reported. Reyes blocked Trump’s order with a preliminary injunction.

The first Muslim and Arab American in the D.C. district court, Judge Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali was born and raised in Canada to Egyptian parents. According to his Questionnaire for Judicial Nominees, Ali was not required to register for the U.S. Selective Service. That is because he was not a citizen until 2019. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada with a software engineering degree in 2008 and then attended Harvard Law School in the U.S., graduating with a law degree in 2011. He worked as a volunteer on Biden’s 2020 transition team and for a phone bank in support of Biden’s presidential campaign. He worked for some nonprofits but never served as a judge until Biden appointed him in 2024. Amir has written extensively and negatively about Trump’s so-called “Travel ban,” a 2017 Executive Order which restricted travel to the U.S. from seven predominantly Muslim countries for 90 days.

In his writing, he said, “prejudice and intolerance” were “the very hallmark of [Trump’s] campaign against Muslims.”

Before he was a judge, Ali spoke at the National Press Foundation and gave tips to reporters about how to cover the courts.

When confirmed, Amir was a member of the Capital Area Muslim Bar Association; Muslim American Judicial Advisory Council; National Arab American Bar Association; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; National Police Accountability Project; and the Native American Bar Association of D.C., among others.

Ali single handedly restored $2 billion in USAID spending to foreign nonprofit contractors that the Trump Administration had paused for 90 days, in a stunning overreach of authority last month.

The newest judge on the D.C. District Court is also foreign born.

Before slinking out of office, Biden and his handlers got Judge Sparkle Sooknanan confirmed. She was sworn in Jan. 2, 2025. Born in the dual-island nation Trinidad and Tobago in 1983, she left her home country at age 16 to pursue college and graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 2010.

She was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and during the Biden Administration she was the principal deputy assistant attorney general in the Civil Rights Division for the Department of Justice before Biden tapped her for her first ever judge gig in the D.C. Court, according to her Questionnaire for Judicial Nominees.

Last week, Sooknanan dutifully did her part to slow Trump’s agenda, ordering the reinstatement of Democrat Susan Grundmann to the Federal Labor Relations Authority, a move that keeps the board in a Democrat majority.

“The Time Bomb Is Ticking: Europe’s Next War Won’t Be in Ukraine—It’ll Be in the Streets”

By Alexander van Koningsbruggen, Apr 25, 2025

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The European Union is pouring weapons, money, and political capital into Ukraine at an astonishing rate. If you listen to Brussels, it’s all about protecting democracy and stopping aggression at the borders of Europe. But what they won’t tell you—what they can’t afford to admit—is that many are quietly dreading the day the war ends. Because when the war ends, the real trouble begins.

    The Guns Are Already Here

Let’s start with the obvious: Not all the weapons being sent to Ukraine are staying on the battlefield. Despite all the promises of accountability, there are credible reports of smuggled arms already making their way into black markets across Europe. Think assault rifles, grenade launchers, anti-tank weapons—serious hardware.

We’ve seen this movie before. After the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s, Europe was awash with surplus weapons. Those weapons were later used in everything from gang shootouts to terrorist attacks. We didn’t learn then—and we’re not learning now.

    Fighters with Extremist Ties

Ukraine has become a training ground not just for patriots, but for ideologues. Neo-Nazis from across Europe and beyond have made their way to the frontlines, many of them joining paramilitary groups like the Azov Battalion. They’re learning tactics, getting battlefield experience, and bonding with like-minded extremists. What happens when these people come home?

You don’t have to imagine it. Just look at post-ISIS Europe. Veterans of jihadist fronts came back radicalized, traumatized, and ready for violence. Now imagine a new wave of ideologically radical, combat-tested fighters re-entering European society—but this time from the other end of the political spectrum.

    A Powder Keg Already Lit

And here’s the twist: That’s just one side of the problem. The EU has spent the last decade allowing—often encouraging—mass immigration with minimal vetting. This humanitarian impulse has had consequences. In countries like France, Sweden, and Germany, authorities are now struggling to deal with rising crime, gang violence, and extremist networks. Some neighborhoods have effectively become no-go zones. Sexual violence has spiked. Integration has failed in key places.

Now ask yourself: What happens when radicalized individuals already inside the EU—some of them with ties to extremist Islamist groups—get access to the same black-market weapons flowing out of Ukraine? It’s a nightmare scenario that nobody in Brussels wants to talk about.

    Why the Silence?

It’s simple: as long as the war continues, the problem stays over there. Dangerous fighters stay deployed. The weapons stay flowing eastward. The political status quo remains intact. But the second peace breaks out, that illusion collapses.

And here’s the worst part: many in Brussels know this. They’re not stupid. They’re just betting they can delay the inevitable—and hoping the public doesn’t notice until it’s too late.

    The Time Bomb Is Ticking

What we’re facing isn’t just a security issue. It’s a political crisis in the making. Neo-Nazis with battlefield training. Radical Islamists already in place. Military-grade weapons being sold on the streets. And a leadership class in denial.

This is Europe’s next war—and it won’t be fought in trenches. It’ll be fought in apartment blocks, concert venues, subway stations, and shopping malls. If you think that sounds alarmist, consider how many people called similar warnings “racist” or “xenophobic” just a few years before the Bataclan, Cologne, or Nice.

Brussels needs to wake up—and so do we.”

  20. Just The News: “The Trump administration on Friday restored thousands of visa registrations for foreign students who had either a minor or dismissed legal infraction. The Justice Department announced the decision in federal court, according to the news outlet Politico.

The administration last month abruptly decided to remove foreign students from a federal database used by universities to track foreign students. Students were concerned they lost their immigration status and could be deported.

Several judges ruled against the administration and said removing the students from the database was illegal. Over 100 lawsuits were launched as a result of the decision.”

  23. EXCERPT: “Think “most off-road-capable VW Type 2” of all time and the T3 Syncro probably flashes to mind, perhaps a modern-day aftermarket creation like the Terracamper Terock. Ask VW, though, and it broadens the conversation with a much rarer, lesser-known model named the “Half-track Fox.” The one-of-a-kind machine serves as the subject of VW’s latest restoration, and it’s a true jaw-dropper. The van started life as a beautiful but standard 1962 Splitty before getting converted into something of a snowcat adventure van for exploring the heights and depths of the Austrian Alps.

One of the most unique examples in more than 70 years and seven generations of Volkswagen’s much-loved Type 2 van, the Half-track Fox was born in May 1962 at VW’s Hannover plant. It was delivered to its Austrian buyer and started life much like any other Type 2 of the time. After a short run as a standard T1 van, this particular example found its way to the workshop of Austrian mechanic Kurt Kretzner, who would soon turn it into something very different.

An avid skier, as the tale goes, Kretzner was discouraged by the lack of truly capable off-road vans, so he set about building his own. Instead of settling for mere four-wheel drive, Kresner added two axles, with the rear pair powering a homebuilt chain-driven track system with 13-in wheels. The two front axles with 14-in off-road tires were left to handle steering. The rear tracks distributed weight on soft ground, increased flotation and improved traction over snow and other off-road surfaces, while a limited-slip differential helped ensure that drive power pushed the vehicle onward, in the desired direction….”

  26. My! I looked outside to find Wheezer sleeping on the chair so I took his food out. As soon as the door opened, he jumped down and came over to me. I bent over and stroked his back a couple of times, then stayed bent over, keeping kept my hands low at my knees, and did nothing. He tipped his head to rub it against my leg, then his entire body; then he turned around and rubbed up against me again, while I stroked his back. When I raised up to come inside, he flopped down on the floor and rolled onto his side, reaching out with one paw towards my foot in a playful way. Guarantee you he’d claw the hell out of my hand if he could get hold of it, tho! Problem is, that is a part of courting between cats and that includes the claws! Nope! Not going there again!
