Alternate Uses for Plastic Lids

We all know the struggle: You’re cleaning out your food storage drawer and somehow have way more lids than you do containers. If you can’t find the bottoms to those tops, don’t throw them away! Surprisingly, there are many uses for plastic lids, besides being just a container cover, that can help you around the house. From moving furniture to outsmarting batter splatters, these toppers and more. Keep scrolling for all of the brilliant ways your plastic lids can save you time and money around the house.

1. Avoid a plant watering oops

The new houseplant you picked up is a beautiful addition to your home. The only problem? The hole at the bottom of the pot keeps dripping water all over your windowsill. Dodge the mess by placing a plastic storage container lid under the pot. The lid’s ridge will catch any drips and keep water from spilling onto your windowsill.

2. Uses for plastic lids: Move furniture sans scratches

You want to rearrange your living room after getting a new chair but worry about the legs scraping your floors. What can help: Place a plastic lid under each leg of the furniture before moving it. The lid lets you slide it easily without harming the floor. Bonus? This works on carpet too!  “Using a plastic lid as a slider is an excellent way to save money and your back,” says Sara McDaniel, an interior designer, home renovation expert and owner of Simply Southern Cottage. “Furniture sliders are quite popular, but plastic lids would serve the same purpose and you likely already have them in your pantry.”

3. Tangle-proof a ball of yarn

The last time you knitted a scarf, you ended up with rolls of tangled yarn. Next time: Cut an X in the center of a plastic storage container lid, then thread the yarn through. When you pull the yarn, the slit in the lid will help loosen up any tangles and keep new ones from forming. Or, if you have a leftover iced coffee to-go cup, just use the lid’s straw hole! Easy!

4. Uses for plastic lids: Clog-proof your bath drain

Whenever you bathe Buster, his fur gets caught in the drain and you’re worried about an eventual clog. Don’t have a drain cover? Poke a few small holes through a plastic lid and place it over the drain. Turn on the water and hold the lid until it is suctioned to the tub’s surface, then wash Spot as usual. The holes allow the water to drain while the lid catches your dog’s stray hairs.

5. Easily corral earrings

If you’re tired of digging through your jewelry box to find your favorite hoop earrings, leftover plastic lids can help. Simply grab a sewing needle, poke several holes in a plastic lid, then slide the end of each earring through. You’ll be able to find the pair you need in no time!

6. Uses for plastic lids: Paint without messy drips

“As a home renovator, paint is a big part of all of my projects and I’m always getting paint in places it shouldn’t be,” sighs McDaniel. Her secret to making any paint job neater: Cut a slit in a plastic storage container lid large enough to slip a paintbrush through. “As you paint, spills and splatters will be caught on the lid, keeping the paint contained and reducing messes.”

7. Ward off any rust ring stains

While deep-cleaning your shower or tub, you notice rust rings left from a shaving cream can. To avoid them from forming in the future, just place any plastic lid under metal cans you keep in your shower. The lid will act as a buffer between the tub and the canister, so there are no unwanted stains left behind.

8. Uses for plastic lids: Slice food in half the time

You love adding fresh grapes to your chicken salad, but cutting each one individually takes so much time and effort. “Every day we are looking for ways to save time while cooking without compromising quality, and this tip will help,” says Gabriela Pollack, owner of New York-based chocolate shop Brigadeiro Warehouse: Carefully arrange them close together in one layer on a plastic lid. Then cover with another plastic lid of the same size. Gently hold the top lid down to keep the fruit in place, then slide a knife between the lids. “Just make sure to use a sharp knife,” she warns. Remove the top lid and voilà — you’ll have perfectly sliced grapes for your salad in seconds. No hassle required!

9. Scrape away frost in a flash

Nothing is worse than losing your scraper while your car windshield is covered in frost and you’re running late. To the rescue: a plastic lid! Use the side of the lid to scrape the frost off the window. The soft plastic won’t scratch the glass as it quickly clears away the frost, making your winter mornings a breeze.

10. Uses for plastic lids: Outsmart batter splatters

Using a hand mixer to whip up cupcakes saves you time and energy, but one little misstep means you’re covered in batter, and so is your counter. Shield it all by using a plastic storage container lid. Just cut two small X’s in the top of the lid, then slide the mixer’s attachments through the slits; attach them to the mixer’s body. The lid will act as a shield and keep batter from getting on your clothes and counters.

11. Protect breakables in the dishwasher

You were so careful when you placed your wineglasses in the dishwasher, but somehow one broke during the cycle anyway. To keep this from happening again: Slide a plastic lid between each delicate glass in the dishwasher. The lid will stabilize the glasses so they’re less likely to shift, plus act as a barrier in case other dishes move.

12. Uses for plastic lids: Outsmart sticky honey drips

Even though you wipe your honey jar before putting it away, dribbles sometimes go unnoticed and leave your cupboard shelf sticky. Prevent this by placing a plastic lid underneath the bottle after each use. The rimmed lid will catch any drips, ensuring your cabinet stays clean.

13. Ward off accidental hammer dings

Oops! Last time you hung a photo, you missed the nail and left a dent in the wall. Next time, cut a hole that’s slightly larger than the nail in the center of a plastic lid, then slide the nail into the hole and start hammering as usual. If the hammer slips, the plastic will protect the wall. When you’re done, simply slip the lid off.

14. Uses for plastic lids: Securely close a garbage bag

When you can’t find a twist tie — and there isn’t enough room at the top of the trash bag to tie a knot—enlist the help of a plastic lid. Using a knife or scissors, carefully cut a small X into the center. Twist the top of the bag, then slide it through the slit until it can’t go any further. The lid will bind the plastic together so the garbage bag will stay closed until pickup.

15. Safely scrape nonstick pans

When food particles get stubbornly stuck to your “nonstick” cookware, try using a plastic lid to scrape off the mess. Push the lip of the lid downward against the pan and repeat until all of the cooked-on food is removed. The firm plastic along the edge will get under the grunge so it easily comes off without damaging the pan’s finish.

“A word about AI. Artificial intelligence will be the next big thing. There is no stopping that juggernaut. So, we must learn the tools to use AI to our advantage in this fight for freedom – religious, medical, and personal.

That means insisting on standards for training data sets that include precisely what those data are and making those standards transparent to all, providing education on how to use AI at the input level, and training people to understand how AI can be corrupted.

We, the small minority protecting this country, must take it upon ourselves to learn how to use AI to our advantage.

The big truth with AI is that it is a bit like the Wizard of Oz. When you control the data (inputs), then you control the outputs – not the AI system. We can’t let the corporatists – represented by the WEF, the globalists, the administrative state – and, yes, the deep state control the inputs.

So, learn the tools, learn to play the game, and then take control of AI programs in your life and insist on transparency within the government and corporations using AI. Because this technology isn’t going away, and it will fundamentally change how we live – like it or not.”

  4. I’m just going to throw this out there…..me-myself-and-I were having a conversation:

The law is the law, and we advocate for following the law, right? If it’s permissible under current law, then those who made life decisions, such as relocating to the US, under the FJB law while it was technically “legal” (if not Constitutional – then again, at least 80% of what Congress does is not technically Constitutional) could have a legitimate case for not being immediately removed.

Once that law is changed, those people should be required to follow the correct procedure and formally apply (the good ones will most likely have already begun the process) under the current rules. It seems disingenuous to make them return to their country of origin while they wait for that to be adjudicated. Obviously, that would mean a TON more immigration courts/judges to process them quickly and, equally obvious, anyone with gang ties, ANY record in their home country, fake names, etc., etc. is booted immediately.

Like it or not, the law is the law and they followed the law at the time. I’m really divided on this….thoughts?

    1. i’m not sure what law you’re referring to. if you’re referring to immigration law, it was never made LEGAL for people to jump our border. a law is a law. it doesn’t stop being a law just because the current administration refuses to enforce it. it was never repealed; therefore, any one breaking that law is wrong.

        1. as far as I know, even if biden tried to pass an eo declaring illegals could enter the country at will , that would go against a law and in and of itself illegal. they just decided NOT to enforce a law. doesn’t change that it IS a law.

  5. Just The News: “(The Center Square) – The U.S. Coast Guard continues to break records in drug interdiction efforts as part of their role in Trump administration border security operations.

On Thursday, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and other officials announced the result of 14 interdictions by USCG crews of cutters Stone and Mohawk at a press conference in Fort Lauderdale. The crews seized more than 22.5 tons of drugs: 45,000 pounds of cocaine and 50 pounds of marijuana were offloaded on Thursday at Port Everglades.

“The brave men and women of the coast guard do work every single day 24/7 and they do it with excellence,” Noem said. “Their dedication, their resilience and their patriotism is something that we all can admire and does not go unnoticed. Their core mission is simple but it’s incredibly crucial: it’s to secure our territorial waters and to safeguard our nation from those who seek to do us harm.

“Their mission directly aligns with President Donald Trump’s vision to ‘Make America Safe and Strong Again,’ and thanks to the Coast Guard’s relentless maritime security and their interdiction efforts, $517 million worth of illegal drugs will never reach American communities by what you see today as a result of weeks of work. That means fewer families are going to be torn apart by addiction, that fewer lives are going to be lost to overdoses, that communities will be safer, and fewer resources will be at the hands of dangerous violent cartels that seek to do all of us harm.”

Noem was joined by USCG Acting Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday, Joint Interagency Task Force South Deputy Director Rear Adm. Joshua Lasky and Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Cutter Stone Capt. Jonathan Carter. The USCG is part of DHS; the U.S. Navy is also supporting USCG interdiction efforts.

The cutters were involved in a multi-week operation with embarked Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron aircrews and Tactical Law Enforcement Team-Pacific law enforcement detachment. They were involved in interdiction efforts, working with partner agencies in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

In one interdiction effort, USCG Cutter Stone’s embarked Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron aircrew detected a suspicious vessel approximately 270 miles off the coast of Ecuador on March 10. In addition to seizing the drugs, they also apprehended 35 suspected smugglers who were transferred ashore to face federal prosecution in U.S. courts.

Since Jan. 21 through this week, Coast Guard crews hit a milestone of interdicting more than 80,000 pounds of illicit drugs being smuggled by drug cartels attempting to reach the U.S. Their efforts are part of a U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) directive that deployed two U.S. Navy warships to the southern border in direct support of Coast Guard interdiction efforts.

“The Coast Guard leads the U.S. government’s efforts to control, secure and defend the nation’s borders and maritime approaches, starting at the U.S. southern border, where the president has declared a national emergency,” Acting Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday said. “We are now leveraging U.S. Navy capabilities with Coast Guard teams aboard to augment our forces off Southern California and Texas.”

“Navy ships provide unique capability to complement U.S. Coast Guard operations to achieve 100% operational control of the border,” he added.

Last month, Coast Guard crews began assisting with deportation flights out of California and Texas, The Center Square reported. Under border security directives from Trump, the U.S. Coast Guard has tripled its forces operating at the southwest border and more recently hit historic drug bust milestone.

“We are clearing our communities of illicit drugs that fuel addiction and crime. In less than 100 days, President Trump is delivering on his promise to make America safe again,” Noem said.

Coast Guard crews are also interdicting in the Florida straits “to deter and prevent a maritime mass migration from Haiti and/or Cuba,” as well as in the maritime border between the Bahamas and Florida, The Center Square reported.

Under Trump, the USCG also surged resources in the maritime border around Alaska, Hawaii, the U.S. territories of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands as well as off the coast of Texas and Louisiana in the Gulf of America.”

  6. Just The News: “For the 13th consecutive year, the city of Chicago once again reigned as the nation’s homicide capital in 2024 with 573 murders.

Wirepoints President Ted Dabrowski views that as a sickness he argues has been allowed to fester for too long. Even as overall murder rates across the country dipped, Chicago also claimed the top spot for highest murder rate per capita among big cities at 21.5 per 100,000 population, or three times the levels of Los Angeles and nearly five times of New York City.

“It means we have a real problem and we’re sick,” Dabrowski told The Center Square. “Until we get serious, this murder problem is going to be a drag on the city in terms of attracting people, attracting businesses and, worse, it’s going to keep chasing people away and chasing businesses away. It’s something we have to get our hands around.”

Dabrowski adds that while Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson often talks about crime being down in the city, the truth is numbers are down across the country, just not nearly as much in Chicago.

“It’s true the crime is down somewhat, but it’s down dramatically across the country,” he said. “It’s barely down here. You’ve got places like Jacksonville where murders are down 50%. You’ve got places like Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., where it’s down 30 to 35%. Our murders are only down 8%. We’re just part of the national wave, but we’re almost not participating in that national wave.”

In all, 19 of the top 20 cities for total homicides in 2024 saw fewer murders than the year before.

“It’s kind of sickening that we don’t think that we need to have rule of law,” Dabrowski said. “We have a mayor that makes apologies for kids doing big crimes as they’re just being kids; we’ve had a state’s attorney that has refused to prosecute in the way that she should and we have a really low arrest rate, which is a big result of low police morale due to city officials that don’t support police. It’s a broken chain of criminal justice.”

  7. “Jordan Peterson: ‘Psychopathic narcissist’ types who ruined Dems will ‘migrate to the right’”

    American Wire | March 22, 2025 | Kevin Haggerty

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Democratic Party collapse was little more than a cautionary tale to Dr. Jordan Peterson as he warned where he suspected the “psychopathic narcissists” responsible would end up.

    (Video: Fox News)

Between the accomplishments of President Donald Trump’s administration and the utter disarray of the left since his return to the White House, Republicans of all stripes have had much to celebrate. However, as an employee of the Kennedy Center became the latest to self-destruct, getting himself fired for a naked video protesting the GOP leader, renowned Canadian psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson warned similar characters would soon “migrate to the right.”

During an appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” Friday, the author of “Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life,” was asked by the host if “doom” was coming for the Democrats if they couldn’t get their act together.

To that, Peterson contended, “Well, I think it already has, in some ways, spelled doom for them because it was the takeover of the Democrats by the radical narcissist types that really did them in. And I would say, also, a warning to people on the right…because the right is ascendant now in the U.S. that means that the power-hungry narcissist types, who really don’t care what they believe but are after acclaim and attention, they’ll migrate to the right.”

“So the right is gonna be in the same situation with regards to having to draw distinctions relatively soon,” he argued. “I can already see that start to happen on platforms like X. But the Democrats — at least there’s a good centrist position on the right-hand side, and the Democrats have nothing. They have no real leadership in the center and I think they chased almost anybody who had any courage out of the party over the last seven or eight years.”

For context, he specifically called out antisemitism as an example of the vitriol from “narcissistic players who are claiming…right wing and religious affiliation” akin to the radical behavior of leftists as he suggested, “Wherever there is power concentrated, you can expect the psychopathic narcissists-types to migrate. And then they claim the beliefs, but really all they’re after is attention.”

Addressing the Democratic Party directly, Peterson brought up New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez traveling with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) on the “Fight Oligarchy” tour and how many on the left looked to the radicals as leaders.

“I think the Democrats are without direction, as well as without leadership. You can see AOC moving ahead in terms of her popularity along with Bernie Sanders and that’s because the socialist wing of the Democrats at least has a bit of a story,” he explained. “The centrists, such as they are, have almost nothing to say. They don’t have a vision of the future to share. And I actually think that’s too bad because, to have a healthy political situation in your country, you need a credible opposition.”

Of note, Peterson pointed out that Democrats remained unwilling to join him on his podcast and would only speak to him in private, “So the center has to be put together on the Democrat side again and they don’t know how to do it.”

“The race brings together approximately 37 mushers and 444 dogs in a remarkable display of speed, skill, and teamwork. Ms. Vance and the delegation are excited to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity,” the White House also said.

Vance, her son and the delegation are scheduled to return to the U.S. on Saturday, March 29. The island is scheduled to hold local elections on April 1.”

  9. NF: I’ve never been to a protest either!!!

“You’d have to be deaf, dumb and just plain stupid not to notice how the party that’s supposed to be the ‘most caring and compassionate’ is also the angriest and most violent. I’ll never quite understand why so many so-called liberals are so pissed off all the time. When’s the last time you saw Pocahontas smile or Maxine Waters say something nice? Why are liberal ‘protestors’ – there’s always something to bitchabout with this ilk – always so ready to burn yer friggin’ house down just because you disagree with ’em? It seems a little counter-intuitive to me, but hey – what do I know. I’ve never been to a protest…”

      1. Actually, I did go to one against the Westboro Baptist Church in Pierce in 2013 or 2014. I can’t find any reference to it on the net but it was very small – a small contingent were there protesting at the funeral of a local military member who had been killed. We joined a group to protest – HB had t-shirts printed up and we far outnumbered them – they also fooled them and had the hearse carrying the casket take a round-about route to avoid them. There were at most 5-7 of them w/their anti-gay posters and 100’s of us; they were kept fenced in on a small grassy section in front of the PD.

It makes you wonder what else happens in schools, away from the prying eyes of parents.

How often did this happen? We don’t know, but parents in Vermont, Maine and North Carolina were understandably upset enough to sue the health care workers and the schools over their children’s unwarranted jabs.

Instead of obtaining an easy win, in each case the parents and children lost in the lower courts. How could this be? Battery is battery. Consent is consent…”

The president just ordered an investigation into law firms that break the law and federal rules to bring frivolous lawsuits. “Lawyers and law firms that engage in actions that violate the laws of the United States or rules governing attorney conduct must be efficiently and effectively held accountable.  Accountability is especially important when misconduct by lawyers and law firms threatens our national security, homeland security, public safety, or election integrity.” Trump asked AG Bondi to “review conduct by attorneys or their law firms in litigation against the Federal Government” over the past eight years. “I further direct the Attorney General to take all appropriate action to refer for disciplinary action any attorney whose conduct in Federal court or before any component of the Federal Government appears to violate professional conduct rules.”

American Heart Association Retracts Opposition To Barring Soda, Candy From Food Stamps
Cardiologist group says siding with Dems to preserve taxpayer-funded HoHos was an ‘unfortunate’ mistake.
    Mar 20, 2025

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/american-heart-association-retracts-food-stamp-soda-opposition

A lobbyist for the American Heart Association turned heads last week when he asked Texas Republicans not to exclude soda, ultra-processed deserts, and candy from the list of items that can be bought with food stamps, despite the fact that the medical group has for years warned that such foods cause heart disease.

But now, AHA has retracted the testimony, with spokesman Steve Weiss telling The Daily Wire that “The Association’s position on Texas Senate Bill 379 was miscommunicated during the TX Senate Health and Human Services Committee hearing last week. The Association is not opposed to the bill, which would restrict purchases of sugary drinks and certain other unhealthy foods within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).”

“The miscommunication at the hearing from our representative, who is based in Texas, was unfortunate. We have corrected the record and worked to ensure this will not happen again,” Weiss said via email. “The Association remains committed to increasing the consumption of healthy food and decreasing the consumption of sugary drinks across our mission-critical work in scientific research, public policy and public awareness.”

He would not explain how the organization’s lobbyist managed to inadvertently register in advance specifically to testify against the bill, travel to the state capitol, and provide written and oral testimony that was the exact opposite of the organization’s mission. According to the Texas committee’s list of registered witnesses, Puente was joined by Walmart in opposing the law, while representatives from the Texas Radiological Society, Texas Medical Association, Make Texans Healthy Again, and End Chronic Disease showed up to support it.

  17. Townhall: “President Trump knew legal challenges would be filed against his policies and executive orders. He’s prepared, and his team is willing to fight every frivolous lawsuit and unlawful order, especially the ones issued by rogue district judges. He should ignore the rulings, but he won’t; the administration plans to go through the appeals process, as annoying as that may be for rulings that clearly show judges are violating the separation of powers.

The president has an attorney general who is in his corner, too. His latest directive to Ms. Pam Bondi is to investigate the legions of anti-Trump attorneys and their law firms who are waging this war against the Trump administration in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2024 election (via NY Post):

Trump’s legal team has petitioned the US Supreme Court to intervene and potentially pare back the lower courts’ ability to slap injunctions against his actions while litigation plays out.

President Trump directed US Attorney General Pam Bond to pursue penalties against law firms and lawyers that lodge “frivolous” litigation against the government.

Trump pointed to civil procedure rules barring lawyers from lodging legal filings to “harass” or “cause unnecessary delay” and asked Bondi, 59, to recommend additional steps he could take to fight back.

“Far too many attorneys and law firms have long ignored these requirements when litigating against the Federal Government or in pursuing baseless partisan attacks,” Trump said in a presidential memorandum the White House released Saturday.

“I hereby direct the Attorney General to seek sanctions against attorneys and law firms who engage in frivolous, unreasonable, and vexatious litigation against the United States.”

The Trump administration has weathered well over 100 lawsuits since late January.

Last month alone, the courts imposed 15 injunctions against the president’s actions, dramatically outpacing the judicial roadblocks former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden faced.

This includes injunctions on Trump’s executive order to scrap birthright citizenship, the block on the president’s use of wartime power to deport Venezuelan gangbangers and more.

Trump’s legal team has petitioned the US Supreme Court to intervene and potentially pare back the lower courts’ ability to slap injunctions against his actions while litigation plays out.

The courts matter. Judges matter. And the Democratic Party only has these unelected psychopaths on the bench to push back against the Trump agenda. Thus far, it’s the only way the Left can fight back, as congressional Democrats are in a total state of disarray.

It’s funny how the Left is resorting to domestic terrorism, with the ongoing campaign against Tesla dealerships where activists have Molotov cocktailed these locations and unelected judges and bureaucrats to land their punches. It’s almost as if their agenda isn’t popular, so they can’t confront the Trump White House through democratic means.”
