What Shall We Bake Today?

Today is National Sticky Bun Day!  I found a great recipe for “old fashioned” sticky buns.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

6½ tablespoon granulated sugar

5½ tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature

1 teaspoon salt

1 egg slightly beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3½ cups bread flour

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1 cup + 2 tablespoons whole milk at room temperature

For the Cinnamon Sugar:

6½ tablespoons granulated sugar

1½ tablespoons ground cinnamon

For the Caramel Glaze:

1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup light brown sugar

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup light corn syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup coarsely chopped pecans

Instructions

Cream together the sugar, butter, and salt on medium-high speed in an electric mixer with a paddle attachment. Whip in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth. Then add the flour, yeast, and milk. Mix on low speed until the dough forms a ball. Switch to the dough hook and increase the speed to medium, mixing for approximately 10 minutes (or knead by hand for 12 to 15 minutes), or until the dough is silky and supple, tacky but not sticky. You may have to add a little flour or water while mixing to achieve this texture. Lightly oil a large bowl and transfer the dough to the bowl, rolling it around to coat it with oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Let the dough rise at room temperature for approximately 2 hours, or until the dough doubles in size.

Meanwhile, make the Caramel Glaze: In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt, and cream together for 2 minutes on high speed with the paddle attachment. Add the corn syrup and vanilla extract, and continue to cream for about 5 minutes, or until light and fluffy.

Transfer the dough to the counter. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin, lightly dusting the top of the dough with flour to keep it from sticking to the pin. Roll it into a rectangle 18 inches wide by 9 inches long. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the surface of the dough (use it all!), and roll the dough up with the long side facing you, creating a cinnamon-sugar spiral as you roll. With the seam side down, cut the dough into 12 even pieces.

Coat the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish with the caramel glaze, then sprinkle the pecans evenly over the surface. Lay the pieces of dough cut-side-up on top of the caramel glaze, evenly spaced throughout the pan. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and allow to rise at room temperature for 75 to 90 minutes, or until the pieces have grown into one another and have nearly doubled in size.

Make-Ahead Note: Instead of the second rise, you can place the shaped buns in the refrigerate for up to 2 days, pulling the pan out of the refrigerator 3 to 4 hours before baking to allow the dough to proof at room temperature.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and adjust the oven rack to the lowest shelf.

Bake the sticky buns for 30 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool the buns in the pan for 5 to 10 minutes, and then remove them by flipping them over onto another pan or serving platter. Carefully scoop any run-off glaze back over the buns with a spatula. Wait at least 20 minutes before serving. The sticky buns are best eaten the day of baking but can be stored, covered, at room temperature for up to 2 days (see notes below on reheating).

Notes

While you may substitute all-purpose flour for the bread flour, know it will produce a slightly different texture than what you see here.

The corn syrup is a key ingredient in getting the exact right texture for the caramel glaze and I don’t recommend making any substitutions.

Make-Ahead Note: You can prepare the sticky buns through placing the rolls into the pan, then cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days before baking. Bring to room temperature prior to baking as directed in the recipe.

It’s a complicated recipe, but the results speak for themselves!!

ENJOY!

  4. NF: IMO, they are simply reflecting the ideals of their fascist Pope!!!

EXCERPT: “The University of Notre Dame has been on a decades-long warpath of undermining its Catholic mission at the altar of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) ideology. But that drive could be on a collision course with the Trump administration’s threat to revoke federal funding from DEI schools.

Just before the Jan. 20 inauguration of President Donald Trump, Notre Dame Provost John McGreevy sent a faculty-wide email stating that the hiring priorities of the school were to increase “the number of women and underrepresented minorities” and that those DEI goals were “equally important” to hiring Catholic faculty. That is one of the latest examples of the school’s dedication to the ideology dating back to at least the 1970s, as detailed in a new report from The Claremont Institute.

“They change Catholicism to be DEI, and while most places are moving in one direction on DEI, Notre Dame is moving in the other direction,” report author Scott Yenor, senior director of state coalitions at The Claremont Institute and political science professor at Boise State University, told The Federalist. “Few conservative or traditional aspects of campus life have grown as quickly or with as much administrative enthusiasm as the DEI efforts have grown in the past several years.”

Yenor said the “worst thing in the report” was McGreevy’s email, especially since the timing was just days before Trump was set to be sworn in after being elected on a mandate to end things like DEI. He said it signaled a “note of defiance.”

“One important goal is to hire Catholic faculty and other faculty deeply committed to our mission to ensure continuity with our past and our future as the world’s leading global Catholic research university,” McGreevy’s email stated. “A second overlapping and equally important goal is to increase the number of women and underrepresented minorities on our faculty so that we become the diverse and inclusive intellectual community our mission urges us to be.”

The report and Yenor noted that Notre Dame is a trusted institution for Christians and remains one of the few Catholic schools that actually has a commitment to hiring Catholic Faculty. But, as the report states, the school’s reputation is “threatened by DEI practices that compromise Catholic doctrine and replace superb instruction with social engineering.”

Conflating DEI and Catholic Social Teaching

The College of Arts and Letters, for example, says that the “commitment to diversity and inclusion at Notre Dame is inextricably tied to our Catholic mission, which calls us to respect the dignity of every person, to work toward the common good, and to stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our community.”

Yenor explained the logic of how the school justifies its interweaving of Catholicism with DEI:

Since Notre Dame “as a Catholic university” is “committed to defending the dignity of every human person, to promoting a just society in which every person can flourish, and to attending particularly to the needs of the most vulnerable,” it must “address [the] racism, inequality, and discrimination” manifest in various forms of disparity. “True inclusivity” is a “credible witness,” this new version of Catholic theology contends, and therefore a natural extension of the Catholic mission.

This line of logic, however, is not shared by others, including Catholic philosopher Ed Feser, who said DEI “is a grave perversion of the good cause it claims to represent, and it is utterly incompatible with Catholic social teaching,” as the report noted….”

  5. “Will Someone Please Explain The Birds And The Bees To The Washington Post?”

The Federalist, By: Elle Purnell, February 21, 2025

sketch of a male and female bird

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Americans agree on the sex binary by a bigger majority than any president has won in two centuries, which means most Americans are smarter than The Washington Post.

A decade ago, The Washington Post revealed its ignorance about where babies come from. On Wednesday, the publication showed its writers still don’t understand what every 10-year-old learns in a special talk with mom or dad. (I’d heard the panicked argument that all that USAID money was necessary to fund sex ed in uneducated parts of the world, but I didn’t realize those uneducated places were actually Washington newsrooms!)

In 2014, the Post’s Philip Bump took a factual statement that he didn’t like but that everyone understands to be true — that “human life begins at conception” — and tried to refute it by citing “experts” who said that pregnancy doesn’t begin until implantation. As it probably took you two seconds to notice just now, the moment life is created and the moment implantation happens are not the same thing, as Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway explained to the Bumps of the world at the time.

This week, the Post is at it again, with an equally obvious fact of mankind’s sexual existence: the fact that, when you come into the world, you are either male or female.

Once again, Post writers were responding to a scientific reality that even young children understand, but which is inconvenient for them politically. Following President Donald Trump’s executive order recognizing “two sexes, male and female,” the Post went searching for “experts” and “science” to prove him wrong.

“Trump says there are ‘two sexes.’ Experts and science say it’s not binary,” is the headline they chose.

Writers Kelsey Ables and Mark Johnson solicited the help of “experts” like the University of Iowa’s Maurine Neiman to explain why sex is “much more complicated than a simple binary.” Neiman, by the way, was granted nearly a million dollars by the National Science Foundation several years ago to study the sexual functions of a New Zealand snail. Your tax dollars at work!

Now, unlike D-list Broadway actress Ketanji Brown Jackson, you probably didn’t need the input of “science experts” to understand the difference between boys and girls. Americans agree on the existence of two and only two sexes by a more overwhelming majority larger than that any U.S. president has won since voters, instead of state legislatures, became responsible for choosing presidential electors. Which means that most Americans are smarter than The Washington Post.

Trump, and all those Americans who agree with him, are “oversimplifying” human biology, the Post and its experts say. Ables and Johnson start with this definition that is so scientifically and teleologically ignorant that the editor who let it go to publish deserves to never work in media again:

Sex is widely understood to refer to a label assigned at birth based on one’s anatomy that may or may not match a person’s gender.

As is obvious to everyone who has ever seen another human being, sex is not just a letter on your birth certificate. It’s not just “assigned” by a doctor. It’s not even just anatomy, although anatomy is a pretty darn consistent indicator of it! It is an immutable fact of our existence, as reflected by our sexual anatomy, hormones, and secondary physical, mental, and emotional characteristics. We can’t change it any more than we can change our genetic parentage. We also can’t change it by lopping off breast and penile tissue. A man whose legs have been amputated is still teleologically a biped.

The article’s insertion of junk science about gender identity — and the stated concern that Trump’s order is “targeting transgender people” — gives away the game. The Post is on the side of men and women who want to force society to indulge the delusion that they are actually the opposite sex.

But letting men use the bathroom with little girls is not a very popular hill to die on, so the Post pretends its objection is actually about people with chromosomal abnormalities or whose reproductive and sexual organs did not develop properly.

As the Post pointed out, boys with Klinefelter syndrome are born with an extra X chromosome. Girls born with Turner syndrome only have a single X chromosome. Some boys are born with a resistance to male hormones, and some girls are born with overactive male hormones, both anomalies that affect anatomical development. In extremely rare cases, babies are born with chromosomes that don’t match their anatomy or with both ovarian and testicular tissue. But the number of babies affected by these uncommon cases is nowhere near the “close to 2 percent of the U.S. population” for whom the Post’s experts suggest sex is hard to “assign.”

It’s true that certain physical ailments affect our ability to operate as we were designed. Babies whose bodies don’t develop properly deserve the utmost compassion and care. But a person born blind or paralyzed or in need of heart surgery is not some new species just because his body is not operating the way it was designed. Take it from none other than the Post’s “expert” Maurine Neiman, who refuted her own position without realizing it.

“There are people we could call females using other criteria who don’t produce any eggs,” she says in the article. Well, yes, exactly — and we all recognize that those women are still women!

But wait, there’s more. The Post and its experts take issue with the fact that Trump’s order “says sex is determined ‘at conception.’” But how could that be, says “expert” Eve Feinberg, because reproductive organs don’t form until later in gestation?

Oh my. Feinberg is a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at what is ranked the No. 6 university in America. I wonder if she knows that a baby’s genetics are determined as soon as sperm and egg meet. Does she know that a baby’s skin color and eye color, for example, are determined genetically long before his skin and eyes fully develop?

I hope someone will educate the Post and its experts on how male and female anatomy are designed to complement each other in the creation of life — and on all the other amazing, complementary differences between men and women. I really hope someone shows them Webster’s 1828 definition of “sex,” which is beautiful in its political incorrectness in a way historical texts can sometimes be.

God’s design for men and women is so wonderful that it’s a shame for anyone to miss out on understanding it. I hope some mom or dad sits the folks at The Washington Post down for that talk before they consult with any more “experts.”

  6. “Dear Secretary Kennedy: Please Stop Schools From Needlessly Drugging Kids”

The Federalist, By: Adrian Gaty, February 21, 2025

EXCERPT: “I hope Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the new Make America Healthy Again Commission won’t need prescription stimulants to notice this crisis. Recently, for the first time in my standardized test-taking career, I deliberately chose the wrong answer.

I was taking the American Board of Pediatrics exam that all U.S. pediatricians must pass every few years to maintain our certification. The case study described a seven-year-old child frequently daydreaming in class. I knew the board wanted me to affirm that, as the answer key puts it, this was a clear-cut case of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

I also knew it was an answer I couldn’t give. I don’t care if it costs me my job. My days of drugging daydreamers are over.

I went into pediatrics because I love kids and want to help them thrive. Yet I now find the weight of my profession daily pressuring me to medicate healthy children, possibly for life, for a condition that cannot be defined and with medicine whose long-term effects we have not even begun to understand, all to conform them to a mass-manufactured existence that would be unrecognizable as childhood to any prior generation.

This is a national scandal. I hope Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the newly announced Make America Healthy Again Commission won’t need to be prescribed stimulants to pay immediate attention to this crisis.

Typically, when a doctor like me raises alarms that mind-altering, soul-crushing stimulants are now handed out like candy, the establishment’s response is to blame irresponsible physicians who aren’t following diagnostic guidelines. That has always been a lie, and I am grateful to the American Board of Pediatrics for proving it. Being pushed into needlessly drugging young daydreamers is not only my real-world experience, it is the model case used to train the nation’s doctors!….”

He knows he would lose in a landslide, despite having seized control of ALL Ukrainian media, so he canceled the election.

In reality, he is despised by the people of Ukraine, which is why he has refused to hold an election. I challenge Zelensky to hold an election and refute this. He will not.

President Trump is right to ignore him and solve for peace independent of the disgusting, massive graft machine feeding off the dead bodies of Ukrainian soldiers.”

@amuse: “UKRAINE: Claims that Zelensky has an approval rate of 57% are from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology which received USAID funding for its polling. 9. ReMIX: “Hungary’s Mandiner news portal gave a rundown on German Marvin Billmann, who spoke to Hit Radio about why he moved to Hungary. Marvin and his brother felt they had to leave Germany in 2022, which their parents were not happy about at first; however, it was also revealed that one of his grandfathers is actually Hungarian.

He says one of the most important reasons he chose Hungary was because the security here is much better than in Germany. “It’s quite Western, but not too much like Germany,” he noted, adding that a major plus is that “Orbán doesn’t let in as many people as Germany.”

Billmann, who frequently posts to his TikTok account about Hungary, believes that there are not many people in Germany who would still support the politicians they did four years ago because they saw where their policies led.

He also says that traditions are much more important to Hungarians than to Germans nowadays. Although this did not seem to be the case when he was a child, everything changed after 2015.

“Here you can go for a walk without having to be afraid of being stabbed or something; in Germany, it’s completely different, it’s very dangerous, what’s happening in Germany is unacceptable. The (migrants) basically do whatever they want and they’re not really punished.”

Listing off some of their undesirable habits, he said Germany’s foreigners simply do not behave according to social norms, throwing trash on the ground, spitting, and making “frightening expressions.”

In Germany’s big cities, most people, shops and businesses are no longer German, Billmann laments.

Billmann also talked about the LGBT ideology present in German kindergartens and how wrong it is since children are too young to understand and make decisions about such topics. “Why do you have to force this LGBTQ thing? It’s bullshit,” he told listeners.

“In Germany, LGBTQ flags have been placed on important buildings and churches. People don’t actually want to put them up, they are paid and forced to. If they don’t, they either lose their jobs or get punished. As if the LGBTQ flag is more important than the German flag,” he said.”

“There might be a bit of a problem here. If nobody tells SSA that somebody died, and then that dead person doesn’t file any taxes any more, how does SSA know to shut off the automatic payments?

I never really thought about that at all. I was the executor of my Mother’s estate and I never thought to call them – I assume the same is pretty much the case with everybody else who kicks. Anyone? Beuhler? Beuhler?”

ANSWER: “Even if you have an up-to-date estate plan, there are some logistical quirks to be aware of whenever someone passes away.  Clients frequently ask if they need to notify the Social Security Administration of the loved one’s passing.  The short answer is “no.”

When a person dies, their death is verified by the Medical Examiner (in other states it may be a coroner or similar authority).  That verification is documented by the formal death certificate, which is processed by the state’s Department of Vital Statistics.

Once the death certificate is processed and issued by Vital Statistics, Vital Statistics notifies the Social Security Administration that the person has passed away.  This allows the Social Security Administration to update the SSA Death Master File with the deceased individual’s name and social security number.  A deceased person’s social security number can no longer be used in transactions, which is why bank accounts in the deceased person’s name are often frozen shortly after their passing.  Direct deposits will not go through, and automatic payments will also be stopped, often even without the bank being notified by the family.

In theory, inactivating a deceased individual’s social security number and freezing his or her accounts reduces the potential for fraud and identity theft.  However, some transactions may still occur during the time after the person has passed away but before the death certificate has been issued.  This can be problematic and later require that the Estate or Trust pay money back to the Social Security Administration or pension custodian for payments that were made after death.  Still, it is best to be patient, give the processes time to work, and avoid confusing the issue by contacting the Social Security Administration.”

The blue state is one of several defying Trump’s Feb. 5 executive order preventing trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports. Trump threatened Thursday to cut off federal funding to Maine before clashing with Mills at a bipartisan meeting of governors.

“Are you not going to comply with that?” Trump asked Mills.

“I’m complying with state and federal laws,” she responded, before Trump said “Well, we are the federal law” and “you better do it, you better do it because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t.

“And by the way, your population, even though it’s somewhat liberal, although I did very well there, your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports, so you better comply because otherwise you’re not getting any federal funding,” Trump continued.

“We’ll see you in court,” Mills responded.

“Good, I’ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one.  And enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics,” Trump concluded….”

“There has been no shortage of leftist meltdowns raging across the internet after Donald Trump took office. Some have developed only minor cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome while others are displaying severe symptoms. One such individual that Libs of TikTok exposed seemingly developed one of the worst cases of TDS yet…

Meet Fred Wilson, a social studies teacher at Egg Harbor Township High School in New Jersey.

As you can probably tell from his picture, Fred appears to be a radical woke leftist, and that’s putting it lightly. During our investigation, we discovered that Fred allegedly wore pro-LGBTQ shirts at school in front of kids. Not only that, but his social media pages were reportedly full of anti-Trump posts, even going so far as to appear to call for the assassination of President Trump.

Though we reached out to the school for comment, they did not respond. However, within one day of contacting the school, they deleted their entire X account. A few days later, it was announced that the Secret Service had opened an investigation into this teacher for his violent online comments targeting the President.

Soon after our initial report broke, news flooded in that Fred Wilson would be resigning from his teaching position.

Schools should be places where children go to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic, instead of being indoctrinated with far-left ideologies and LGBTQ propaganda. It’s frightening to think that someone who appears as unstable as Fred Wilson was allowed to teach within our school system.

While the federal government moves to expel harmful ideologies from our educational institutions, we will carry out our mission to expose these far-left activists embedded in our schools. We are the media now. Have a great weekend.” -LoTT Team
