Ten interesting facts about pennies in honor of Abe Lincoln’s birthday!

The average penny lasts 30 years!

Pennies were the very first coins minted in the United States. In March 1793, the mint distributed 11,178 copper cents. (The amount of copper and zinc in the penny has changed significantly through the years.)

There have been 11 different designs featured on the U.S. penny.

The Lincoln penny was first minted and circulated in 1909, the 100th anniversary of Abe Lincoln’s birth.

Lincoln faces to the right, while all other portraits on coins face to the left. This was not done on purpose — it was simply the choice of the coin’s designer.

The penny was the first U.S. coin to have the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

Lincoln pennies made from 1909 to 1958 were designed by Victor D. Brenner. His initials V.D.B. were on a limited quantity of the 1909 pennies making it one of the most sought after pennies for collecting.

Each year, the U.S. Mint produces more than 7 billion pennies. That’s approximately 19 million pennies per day! 

Over two-thirds of all coins produced by the U.S. Mint are pennies. In fact, the penny is the most widely used denomination currently in circulation and it remains profitable to make. Each penny costs .81 of a cent to make, but the Mint collects one cent for it. The profit goes to help fund the operation of the Mint and to help pay the public debt.

    On Tuesday evening President Trump announced he created a new Intelligence Advisory Board tasked with advancing his “America First” agenda.

    The new advisory board will advise Trump on national security issues.

    Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes will serve as the chairman.

    ABC News reported:

    “The White House announced on Tuesday the formation of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, tasked with advising President Donald Trump on national security challenges and advancing the administration’s “America First” agenda.

    Devin Nunes, chief executive officer of the Trump Media & Technology Group, which runs Truth Social, will serve as chairman. His general counsel, Scott Glabe, will also serve on the board.

    “Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s daughter-in-law, Amaryllis Fox Kennedy; longtime head of global government affairs for Blackstone Wayne Berman; former chief of staff Reince Priebus, former National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien; and Katie Miller, who’s the wife of Trump’s White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, will also join the board.”

  7. Folks have been wondering why Elon Musk brought his adorable little boy child to many Trump events and especially yesterday’s widely covered national presser.

    I believe it’s to stress the fact that the Trump administration and DOGE are pro-child – and that they mean business about protecting children. It’s a serious warning that they are coming after child traffickers, predators, abusers, pedos, perverts of all kinds!

    Moskowitz: If Elon Musk and DOGE has found all this fraud, waste, and abuse, well, then, we can’t fund the government by CR because the CR would refund all of that waste, fraud, and abuse. Which means the only way to fund the government is to fund it by individual spending bills..

    If Congress passes CR, it will automatically be funding all the waste discovered by DOGE.

    A United States Appeals Court in Massachusetts on Tuesday refused to intervene in a lower court judge’s order to the Trump administration to unfreeze billions of dollars in federal grants and loans.

    President Donald Trump’s administration on Monday appealed the order after a federal judge in Rhode Island on Monday ruled that the White House defied his recent court order to unfreeze the aid. The order stems from funds that were expected to be paused by the White House Office of Management and Budget.

    The Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declined to appeal the decision, but urged Judge John J. McConnell Jr. to clarify his order quickly to avoid any further issues, per the Associated Press.

    McConnell said in his recent ruling that the administration failed to comply with “the plain text” of his order, after the Justice Department argued that money for clean energy projects and transportation infrastructure were exempt from the initial order, because they were paused under a different memo.

    The judge also wrote that the initial order was “clear and unambiguous, and there are no impediments to the Defendants’ compliance with” it, and agreed to grant a “motion for enforcement.”

    Monday’s ruling did not include any penalties for the White House’s failure, or find it in contempt.

    But that’s not the real story, the real stories is that in 2018, when she sat on the advisory board, the Fed granted Reserve Trust unusual access to its master account — an enviable get that allows the fintech company to move money for customers without relying on banks.

    This was the only state chartered trust company in the country to get one.

    And that’s why she got 1.5 million dollars in exchange.

  23. Sigh…..more snow today, really fine, tiny flakes, on top of the 2-3″ we got the last couple of days, which usually means a LOT of snow. Temp was 3 when I got up, now up to 5…..nope, not going outside any time soon! Guess I’ll be drinking hot tea instead of coffee since I’m almost out of creamer and I have no intention of going anywhere anytime soon!

    1. rode down the driveway on the plow hitch–cold as hell and bumpy–but we did our grocery shopping for 2 weeks hopefully. no eggs at all at walmart, but we needed to stop at the little market in town. we bought 3 dozen eggs (2-1 1/2 dozen eggs in each carton) for $16.00!

    Rep. John Larson (D-CT) tried this false attack about a week ago. Musk needs to review what a mess the finances have been and he’s already shown why that’s a good thing with all he’s pointed out.

    Larson was attacking Musk again on the floor of the House on Monday when something happened to him right in the middle of speaking. This is pretty scary as he just suddenly seems to freeze.

    He was talking, stopped suddenly, and then was just staring, moving his tongue. Then when he started talking again, his words were slurred, and he tripped over words like “privacy.” And he seemed markedly different. 

    The clip immediately went viral on X, with people concerned. People wondered if he might be having a temporary ischemic attack (TIA). People also wondered why no one seemed to come to his aid immediately when it was clear there was a problem. All they said immediately on the floor was  that his “time was expired.” Some also called for term limits and/or health limits for members of Congress. 

    Larson is 76 and has been in Congress for 26 years, since 1999. His office responded after the clip went viral. 

    “Congressman Larson appreciates the well wishes from everyone who has reached out. This afternoon, he had what was likely an adverse reaction to a new medication and is having tests administered by the House Attending Physician out of an abundance of caution,” his team wrote in a statement. 

    “He later participated in multiple meetings in his office and was alert and engaged. The Congressman remains in touch with his staff and in good spirits,” they added.

    We’ve seen a variety of age/medical issues in Congress from Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). We even saw the situation where we had a member of Congress who wasn’t voting because she was in an assisted living home for months. 

    Larson should get a full work-up. Notice what they don’t say here is what condition or medication they’re talking about. In general, if you are a member of Congress, I think you owe the constituents some transparency as to what was going on. “Reaction to medication” when someone freezes like that doesn’t really fully answer the question.”

Just The News: “Michael Madigan, the long-serving Illinois House Speaker who in his hey-day rubbed elbows with elites like Barack Obama, was convicted Wednesday on 10 federal charges after a long-running influence peddling trial that exposed corruption and greed inside the state’s Democrat establishment.

    Madigan stood stoic as the jury rendered a mixed verdict, which included deadlocking on an overarching racketeering conspiracy as well as six counts that Madigan’s codefendant, Michael McClain, was jointly charged with. The jury also acquitted the former speaker on seven counts.

    Madigan, 82, who also served for years as Illinois Democratic Party chairman, faces years in prison after the conviction, which is likely to be appealed. He was charged in March 2022 with 23 counts of bribery, racketeering and official misconduct in connection with a scheme involving an electric utility that federal prosecutors dubbed “Madigan enterprise.”

    Prosecutors alleged in a trial that stretched months that the utility ComEd and AT&T Illinois doled out no-work or little-work jobs and contracts to Madigan loyalists to ensure the passage of beneficial legislation.
