Today’s offering is my go-to Chocolate Cake! It’s rich and flavorful and has coffee IN IT!

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
¾ cup cocoa
2 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup hot coffee
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, add flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa, and sugar and stir until combined.
Mix in vegetable oil, coffee, and milk. Mix for approximately two minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla extract and continue to mix on medium speed for about two more minutes.
Pour cake batter into cake pans and bake for 30-40 minutes. Your cake is done when an inserted tooth pick comes out clean. Cool about 10-15 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto wire rack.
I frost with a homemade icing and then, after we have a slice for dessert, I slice the cake in half. I cut each half into flat slices and par-freeze them on a wax paper lined cookie sheet for about a half hour. Then I wrap the slices in waxed paper and freeze in a Ziploc bag. That way when hubby and I want dessert, we have an easy one that doesn’t mean we have a big cake sitting around that we have to finish.
Morning All!
well…my Eagles (yes, Mayor of Philly that’s how you spell it) won yesterday and are heading back to the Superbowl for a rematch with the Chiefs. Hubby’s team, the Bills lost to the Chiefs yesterday…sigh.
it looks to be about 20* but there’s frost on it, so really not sure at this point…lol

Good Morning, Pat and Filly,
Warmer weather is here in N FL for the foreseeable future – lows in the 50s – highs in the 70s and only one day with 30% rain.
That means the Japanese Magnolias our earliest flowers are likely to bloom.

Good morning, Pat! Clear sunny skies this morning @ 21 – supposed to almost hit 50 in the next few days! Another brief Indian Summer, I expect, but spring is definitely on the way. Eureka! I was able to find my old phone and charge it so I can pull the info from my contacts. Some of them were entered directly into the phone and weren’t written down. Lesson learned!!! Now I’ve got 3 old phones sitting around that are all 3G…..I wonder if they would work for 911 in an emergency….? I could donate them, if that’s the case. I’ll have to check into that.

And Paxton again steps up!!! Hopefully, it is working it’s way thru the courts since March 2024.
EXCERPT: “Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued the Colony Ridge development in Liberty County for deceptive trade practices, fraud in real estate transactions, and other violations of Texas and federal law.
Colony Ridge is a sprawling real estate development northeast of Houston that has expanded quickly in recent years. In an October 2023 letter to Members of the United States Congress and fellow Texas leadership, Attorney General Paxton noted that the development’s rapid growth has presented major problems. He wrote, “The development appears to be attracting and enabling illegal alien settlement in the state of Texas and distressing neighboring cities and school districts.”
A monthslong investigation by the Office of the Attorney General found that the developer has made numerous false, misleading, and deceptive sales, marketing, and lending practices that enabled their business model.
“Colony Ridge’s business model is predicated on churning land purchasers through a foreclosure mill,” the lawsuit explains. “Namely, Colony Ridge targets foreign born and Hispanic consumers with limited or no access to credit with promises of cheap, ready to build land and financing without proof of income.” Additionally, Colony Ridge misrepresents the conditions of the land and community which often does not have the promised infrastructure such as sewer, water, or electricity. Once discovered, these conditions preclude the buyer from making practical use of the land…..”

AG Paxton letter:
EXCERPT: “…I am beyond disappointed in Senator Nichols and Representative Bailes for apparently working to enrich specific developers at enormous expense to the rest of the public and reducing the quality of life for their own constituents. I have watched journalists and politicians alike downplay this problem. In lockstep, they minimize the scale, costs, and, worst of all, the unjust deprivation of self-governance endured by the
people of Texas who never assented to the creation of a sprawling unincorporated, ungoverned zone that caters in no small part to other countries’ citizens but forces them to pay for the associated costs.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I commend Governor Abbott for requiring the legislature to address the issues pertaining to Colony Ridge in the Special Session. My office has coordinated with the Governor’s team to prioritize this issue, and I urge the legislature to address this growing crisis created by some of their own members’ hidden agendas. Senator Nichols and Representative Bailes created these problems with their initial legislation, and now the legislature must undo what they have tolerated in their districts for years..”

DEA busts drug traffickers in makeshift nightclub, takes 50 illegal aliens into custody
Feds take nearly 50 illegals into custody at Tren de Aragua makeshift nightclub
Federal agents took nearly 50 illegal immigrants into custody early Sunday during an operation targeting the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA)’s networks in Colorado.
The early morning raid targeted what federal authorities deemed a “makeshift nightclub” in Adams County that was “invite-only.” The DEA said “dozens connected to the Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang were there.”
“Drugs, weapons, and cash were seized in Adams County,” one post said. “Nearly 50 illegal aliens were taken into custody.”
Another post included video of the bus used to take the nearly 50 illegal immigrants away from the scene. The DEA said many of those detained are connected with TdA gang from Venezuela but did not specify the breakdown.

SALLY Q 🌷 UPDATE
We are working out Sally’s meds again.
The Hydrocodone pain medication, plus the Lorazapam sedative – prescribed by the hospital at discharge – do not always work.
Hanes cotton work socks filled with rice, heated in the microwave, seem to help the medications work longest and best.
Hospice has prescribed new pain med – a low dose 3 day fentanyl patch, that will be delivered by the pharmacy today and another calming agent, Depakote which we have given one time.
The two calming agents given together seem to really knock her out day and night. I have mixed emotions about knocking her out with meds – relief to have her comfortable and to have peace from her tirades and hostility – guilt over the relief – and fear she is over-medicated.
I’m not going to go home until I’m sure she is stable on the patch and we have a good effective regimen worked out.
Of course, anything can happen when I’m gone – she once had an atrial fibrillation episode when she went for a walk with the caregiver in the heat and again this week when she went out for a walk and got really cold. Extreme heat and cold, extreme moods, inflammation from the tumors and feeling pain – all seem to trigger the afib episodes.
It’s a complex situation and balancing all the meds and all the conditions is an ongoing challenge and can be difficult. There have been no long term solutions on this journey.
Any wisdom and prayers are deeply appreciated.

CA congressman introduces bill to exclude illegals from medicaid
FTA
Congressman Kevin Kiley, R-Calif., has introduced a bill that would prevent states such as California from allowing illegal immigrants to enroll in Medicaid. Kiley estimates this would save California $6.5 billion per year; in January 2024, the state expanded Medicaid enrollment to include all illegal immigrants.
“This common sense legislation ensures that taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits are preserved for those who lawfully qualify, prioritizing the needs of American citizens and legal residents while promoting fairness and fiscal responsibility,” Kiley said in a statement on the bill.

EXCERPT: “…..”Unilaterally” would seem to imply that there were no conditions to get Nuhfer back, so that’s a great move to get that done. We didn’t have to release criminals or give the country pallets of cash. What’s sort of incredible is that it apparently received no real media coverage that Nuhfer had been detained at al. Holding an American is a pretty big deal.
Belarus’ leader, President Alexander Lukashenko, a Vladimir Putin ally, has locked up a lot of his political opponents. He just won an election on Sunday, which the opposition regards as a sham election for a seventh term in office:
A source told the AP that she was released as a gesture of “goodwill.”
Lithuania-based Belarusian opposition leader, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya cheered Nuhfer’s release in a post on X:
Good win for Rubio, the Trump team, and America. This is what should be your first priority. They’re truly showing with moves like this that Americans do come first, and they will work to get people home. Nice after not having that focus for the last four years. This is how it’s done.”

Just The News: “Republican lawmakers have introduced a new bill that would block Medicaid from paying for gender transition drugs and surgeries for minors.
The bill by Reps. Dan Crenshaw, of Texas, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, is titled the the Do No Harm in Medicaid Act would change the Social Security Act to include gender-transition procedures as a prohibited activity, including hormones, surgeries and puberty blockers.
The legislation comes as President Donald Trump takes office and declared last week that it is the official policy of the U.S. government that there are two sexes: male and female.
“The American people deserve accountability in how their taxpayer dollars are spent,” Crenshaw said. “Using Medicaid funds for unproven and irreversible procedures on minors is not only medically irresponsible but also a betrayal of public trust. This bill ensures that Medicaid’s limited resources are used only for evidence-based, medically necessary care.”
Crenshaw said the bill is narrowly designed so that it can be added into the House budget reconciliation process, possibly fast tracking its passage. “Budget reconciliation provides a unique opportunity to pass meaningful reforms with direct fiscal impacts,” Crenshaw said. “This bill fits squarely within that framework, ensuring it will survive procedural scrutiny while delivering a critical win for children and families.”
The bill includes an exception for medically necessary treatments for conditions like genetic disorders or life-threatening illnesses. Crenshaw said the bill is the beginning of a broader effort to block taxpayer funding from being used for surgeries and drugs of this kind on children.
While the practices have become more common in recent years, critics and de-transitioned adults have blasted the practices since they usually make the recipients infertile and many adults regret their decisions later on in life. Questions have also been raised about the financial incentives of healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies since transitioned children become customers who must keep taking certain drugs for the rest of their lives.
Crenshaw and others have backed similar legislation in recent years, including the Protect Children’s Innocence Act which prohibits gender surgeries and drugs for children wholesale or the Parents Bill of Rights Act, a bill that ensures parents give consent for these kinds of procedures.
Another bill, the Children’s Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act, blocks hospitals from receiving federal grant funding for medical education if they participate in these kinds of procedures for children.
Now that Trump has taken office and Republicans have narrow majorities in the House and Senate, these bills may get fresh life. “By taking this step, we’re sending a clear message: the health and safety of our children are non-negotiable,” Crenshaw said. “We will continue to lead the charge to protect America’s future – one policy at a time.”

Hell, no, they don’t have this right!! What part of “illegal” do they NOT understand????
Just The News: “Whether illegal immigrants have the right to keep and bear arms is a question now up for the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. The case USA v. Heriberto Carbajal-Flores centers around Flores’ arrest in Chicago for having a firearm. Representing the federal government, Margaret Steindorf said Flores’ immigration status is important.
“There is the common thread here of felons not abiding by the law and those unlawfully in the country also not authorized to be in the country,” Steindorf said in arguing court precedent allowing for certain individuals to be prohibited from having a firearm.
Representing Flores, Jacob Briskman said rights granted to “the people” aren’t relegated to only a few amendments in the Bill of Rights. “The [U.S.] Supreme Court has decided that undocumented folks have First Amendment protections, Fourth Amendment protections, Fifth Amendment protections when they have come within the United States and developed substantial ties,” Briskman said.
Briskman said his client has a wife and children who are U.S. citizens. Steindorf said Flores’ criminal activity wasn’t just being found with the gun.
“The district court erred when it found defendant was non-violent when in fact the defendant shot a firearm seven times at a passing car without provocation and tried to shoot at a second passing car shortly thereafter,” she said.
Briskman said the lower court got it right, and even with a criminal record, Briskman argued Flores still has rights. “Stripping people of Second Amendment rights because of a criminal history or because they are not responsible are not supported by case law, as [recent U.S. Supreme Court precedent in United States v.] Rahimi has shown,” he said.
The appeals court took the case under advisement.”

Just The News: “Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said on Sunday that “there’s a good chance” the U.S. Supreme Court will side with President Trump on birthright citizenship. Trump signed an executive order to eliminate birthright citizenship. A federal judge blocked it from taking effect.
“I think there’s a good chance. I introduced legislation to end birthright citizenship years ago. Canada, Mexico, and the United States are, like, three of the 20 economic powers in the country. There are three of us that do this. Maybe Brazil,” Graham said on “Meet the Press.”
Graham said the children of illegal immigrants receiving automatic U.S. citizenship if they are born in the U.S. encourages more illegal immigration. “So, it’s a magnet for illegal immigration,” he said. “I think when it comes to illegal immigration, if you want to turn off the spigot, change this policy. I think it’s a cheap way to award citizenship. You should not be a citizen simply because you were born here. You have to have some connection to the jurisdiction of the United States,” he added.
Graham referenced a new report that showed there were as many as 250,000 people born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants in 2023. “That’s 7% of all the babies born in the country,” he said.”

Just The News: “Lt. Gov. Burt Jones compared a new Georgia bill targeting bureaucracy to the Department of Government Efficiency established by President Donald Trump. The “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025,” announced Friday, would require state agencies to have a rule and regulation review every four years.
Lawmakers could also ask for a “Small Business Impact Analysis” on pending legislation, the lieutenant governor said. Jones introduced a similar bill last year, but it wasn’t passed.
“Last year, we made positive changes to combat burdensome and costly regulations on behalf of workers and business owners all over Georgia,” Jones said. “As a business owner, continuing our efforts to promote deregulation and free our businesses from harmful government red tape will continue to be a priority. Our state initiative complements DOGE, President Donald Trump’s plan to create efficiency, while paring down unnecessary spending and eliminating bureaucratic red tape at the federal level.”
A report from the Georgia Public Policy Foundation said research from the Esper Group released by the commission showed the state’s code had 18,160 regulations. More than 54% of them needed review.
“The majority of regulations that actually do impact businesses and consumers do come from unelected employees working in bureaucratic agencies on the executive side of things,” said J. Thomas Perdue, the author of the report, in an interview with The Center Square. “A lot of these are obviously done with safety in mind, product control, quality control and things like that.”

Joe Biden Potentially Faces Excommunication After Quiet Induction into Historically Black Masonic Lodge
Our Take: #OurBoyBlue continues to serve with distinction. It seems that, on his way out the door, Joe Biden couldn’t help stirring the pot one last time.
In Friday’s edition of the Brief, I covered a story about Freemasonry returning to Syria, and the article explained the purported occult/satanist connections. This article from RT further emphasizes that point:
“Although its origins stretch back to the 15th century, modern Freemasonry developed in Britain in the early 1700s and quickly grew into a Europe- and US-wide fraternity for philosophers, religious dissidents, occultists, and the business and political elite. Prince Hall Masonry is a historically black sect of Freemasonry founded in 1775 by a freed slave in Boston. Pope Clement XII forbade Catholics from practicing Freemasonry in 1738, and this papal ban remained in place until 1983, when the Vatican issued a new order banning membership in organizations that “plot against the Church.” While the new order did not explicitly name Freemasonry, it maintained excommunication as a potential punishment for Catholics who join such organizations. ‘The faithful who enroll in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion,’ Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who would go on to become Pope, declared at the time.”
Perhaps the Ghosts in the Machine were a bit concerned that getting Biden to sniff kids during White House events that were broadcast to the entire world wasn’t overt enough, so they figured they would strap some water-skis to his feet and have him jump a bunch of sharks like Arthur Fonzarelli.
Well played, Xirs. – GhostofBasedPatrickHenry

“With the U.K. Calling for His Head, Elon Musk Offers HILARIOUS New Name for the English Channel”
Twitchy, Grateful Calvin | 8:00 AM on January 27, 2025
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “When the ‘groomer gang’ scandal broke in the U.K. recently, it quickly became one of the most shocking stories in recent memory, not only for what those gangs did to young women and girls but even more disgracefully, what the government and media did — and continues to do — to try to cover it up.
It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone that Elon Musk went on the attack almost immediately against the British government and media about the gangs. He was just one of millions who weighed in forcefully against the coverup, but when you’re the richest man in the world AND the owner of one of the biggest social media platforms in the world, your voice tends to carry a little further than most others.
The Brits in charge were none too happy with Musk, who they already hated for the crime of … wait for it … encouraging and supporting free speech (THE HORROR). But they went after him even harder on the heels of the scandal, accusing him of trying to start ‘race riots’ and wanting to extradite him for trying to ‘overthrow the government.’
Maybe they should be asking themselves why a government that tried to hide such an atrocity SHOULDN’T be overthrown.
But they clearly do not understand Musk, who tends to laugh at such slings and arrows, both figuratively and literally, just as he did with the fake ‘Nazi salute’ story. Yesterday, Musk showed Kier Starmer’s government how much he simply does not care about their hatred by posting a hilarious suggestion for renaming The English Channel.”

White House What’s Up
As noted above, Trump is in Florida to headline the House GOP retreat Monday evening. He’ll return to D.C. after delivering his remarks. Will he get in a round of golf while conducting diplomacy earlier in the day? He does seem to excel at that…
I keep wanting to put together a running tally of all his executive actions, but it’s nigh impossible to keep up with. Instead, I invite anyone interested in doing so, to take a gander at the White House website, where they’re doing a fairly nice job of keeping up with DJT.
Full Court Press…
No oral arguments before the Supreme Court now until late February, but the court did grant certiorari in a handful of cases on Friday, including one involving a “Catholic school’s effort to become the nation’s first religious charter school after the Oklahoma Supreme Court rejected the move on the grounds that it would violate the Constitution by using public money to fund a religious institution.”
The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral argument Monday on the still-undecided North Carolina Supreme Court race.
In the “Even Judges Need Copy Editors” file today, we find that Judge Sidney Stein, on Friday, issued an order in the case involving former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez (D) noting that the word “despise” in his previous order of January 22, should be replaced with the word “despite.”
COMING ATTRACTIONS
A vote in the Senate on Sean Duffy as Transportation secretary is expected on Tuesday, with Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) likely to file cloture Monday evening on one or more of the remaining nominees who’ve made it out of committee.
It’s a BIG week for confirmation hearings, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s nominee for secretary of Health and Human Services, set to testify before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday and the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee on Thursday.
And both Kash Patel, the FBI director nominee, and Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s pick for Director of National Intelligence, have their confirmation hearings on Thursday morning before the Judiciary and Intelligence committees, respectively.
Also expect a vote this week in the Senate on the ICC sanctions bill.

“Local police identified Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan, 47, as the homeowner. At the scene, officers found one juvenile on the home’s lawn heavily intoxicated and needing medical attention. An intoxicated woman at the scene was identified as 45-year-old Karly Anderson, who told officers she was a teacher who attended the gathering. Sgt. Payne noted, “It was later discovered that she was a teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School.” Hill-Brodigan has over the years held different roles within Brevard Public Schools (BPS), and had also been named Teacher of the Year while Anderson has reportedly taught in the school system since 2006.”

IRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Monday to build an American version of the Israeli “Iron Dome” missile defense system.
An expert in national security—and in the Iron Dome, in particular—praised Trump’s action as the fulfillment of President Ronald Reagan’s strategic defense plan.
According to a news release provided early to The Daily Signal, Trump’s executive order “directs the implementation of a next generation missile defense shield for the United States against ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other next generation aerial attacks.”

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department said Monday that it fired several career lawyers involved in prosecuting Donald Trump, escalating the president’s campaign of retribution against his perceived enemies.
The employees worked on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation that led to now-dismissed indictments against Trump over his handling of classified documents and his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the lead-up to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“Today, Acting Attorney General James McHenry terminated the employment of a number of DOJ officials who played a significant role in prosecuting President Trump,” a Justice Department official told NBC News. “In light of their actions, the Acting Attorney General does not trust these officials to assist in faithfully implementing the President’s agenda. This action is consistent with the mission of ending the weaponization of government.”
Jack Smith’s team just got shitcanned.

Just The News: “President Donald Trump’s Justice Department on Monday fired more than a dozen employees who worked with special Counsel Jack Smith in prosecuting Trump, claiming the decision was in line with the administration’s mission to end the weaponization of the federal government.
The terminations come after the administration reassigned at least 15 individuals at the agency to smaller roles last week, per the New York Post, including one official who pushed for the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.
Acting Attorney General James McHenry ordered the terminations because he did not trust the officials to “faithfully [implement] the president’s agenda,” a DOJ official told Fox News on Monday.
“Today, Acting Attorney General James McHenry terminated the employment of a number of DOJ officials who played a significant role in prosecuting President Trump,” the official said in a statement. “In light of their actions, the Acting Attorney General does not trust these officials to assist in faithfully implementing the President’s agenda.”
The statement did not include a precise number of people who were terminated, or details on the roles of the individuals. But those who were fired were notified via letters. Smith resigned his own post earlier this month, ahead of Trump’s inauguration.”
