Apricots!

Today is National Apricot Day! Apricots are both flavorful, colorful fruits and highly nutritious. Internally, apricots may boost gut health, and externally, they may boost skin health. Apricots (Prunus armeniaca) are stone fruits also known as Armenian plums. Round and yellow, they look like a smaller version of a peach but share the tartness of purple plums. They’re extremely nutritious and have many health benefits, such as improved digestion and eye health.

Here are 9 health and nutrition benefits of apricots.

1 Very nutritious and low in calories

Apricots are very nutritious and contain many essential vitamins and minerals.

Just 2 fresh apricots (70 grams) provide

Calories: 34

Carbs: 8 grams

Protein: 1 gram

Fat: 0.27 grams

Fiber: 1.5 grams

Vitamin A: 8% of the Daily
Value (DV)

Vitamin C: 8% of the DV

Vitamin E: 4% of the DV

Potassium: 4% of the DV

Furthermore, this fruit is a decent source of beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, all of which are potent antioxidants that help fight free radicals in your body. It’s best to enjoy apricots whole and unpeeled, as the skin boasts large amounts of fiber and nutrients. Be sure to discard the stone, as it’s inedible.

2 High in antioxidants

Apricots are a great source of many antioxidants, including beta carotene and vitamins A, C, and E. What’s more, they’re high in a group of polyphenol antioxidants called flavonoids, which have been shown to protect against illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease. The main flavonoids in apricots are chlorogenic acids, catechins, and quercetin. These compounds work to neutralize free radicals, which are harmful compounds that damage your cells and cause oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is linked to obesity and many chronic diseases, such as heart disease. In one study in 2,375 people, researchers developed a scoring system to measure changes in levels of inflammatory markers. They found that high flavonoid and anthocyanin intakes were associated with a 42% and 73% lower inflammation score, respectively. High flavonoid intake was also tied to a 56% lower oxidative stress score.

3 May promote eye health

Apricots boast multiple compounds that are essential for eye health, including vitamins A and E.  Vitamin A plays a vital role in preventing night blindness, a disorder caused by lack of light pigments in your eyes, while vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that enters your eyes directly to protect them from free radical damage. Meanwhile, beta carotene — which gives apricots their yellow-orange color — serves as a precursor to vitamin A, meaning that your body can convert it into this vitamin. Other important apricot carotenoids include lutein and zeaxanthin. Found in the lenses and retinas of your eyes, they safeguard against oxidative stress.

4 May boost skin health

Eating apricots may benefit your skin. The main causes of wrinkles and skin damage are environmental factors, such as the sun, pollution, and cigarette smoke. What’s more, research indicates a direct link between ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, sunburns, and your risk of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. Notably, you can fight some of this skin damage through a healthy diet full of antioxidants, which apricots provide. Vitamins C and E, both found in this fruit, may aid your skin. In particular, vitamin C protects against UV damage and environmental pollutants by neutralizing free radicals. Furthermore, this vitamin helps build collagen, which gives your skin strength and elasticity. Eating a diet high in vitamin C can help your skin heal from UV damage and prevent wrinkles. Beta carotene, another apricot nutrient, may protect against sunburns. In a 10-week study, supplementing with beta carotene reduced sunburn risk by 20%.

5 May promote gut health

Apricots may promote gut health. One cup (165 grams) of sliced apricots provides 3.3 grams of fiber, which is 8.6% and 13.2% of the DV for men and women, respectively. Apricots contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. The soluble kind dissolves in water and includes pectin, gums, and long chains of sugar called polysaccharides, while the insoluble kind doesn’t dissolve in water and includes cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Apricots are particularly high in soluble fiber, which is important for maintaining healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Furthermore, fiber delays the movement of food through your digestive tract and feeds your beneficial gut bacteria. A healthier gut microbiome is linked to a lower risk of obesity. While a single apricot (35 grams) holds only 0.7 grams of fiber, it’s easy to eat a few in one sitting.

6 High in potassium

Apricots are high in potassium, a mineral that also serves as an electrolyte. In your body, it’s responsible for sending nerve signals and regulating muscle contractions and fluid balance. Two apricots (70 grams) provide 181 mg of this mineral, which is 4% of the DV. As potassium works closely with sodium to maintain fluid balance, adequate intake may help prevent bloating and maintain healthy blood pressure. One analysis of 33 studies found that a diet rich in potassium significantly reduced blood pressure and resulted in a 24% lower risk of stroke.

7 Very hydrating

Like most fruits, apricots are naturally high in water, which can help regulate blood pressure, body temperature, joint health, and heart rate. One cup (165 grams) of sliced, fresh apricots provides almost 2/3 cup (142 ml) of water. As most people don’t drink enough water, eating fresh fruit can help you reach your daily needs.  If you’re dehydrated, your blood volume drops, forcing your heart to work harder to pump blood. Furthermore, staying hydrated allows your blood to circulate waste products and nutrients throughout your body. What’s more, eating apricots can be an easy way to replenish both water and electrolyte loss after exercise, as this fruit offers good amounts of water and potassium.

8 May protect your liver

Some data suggests that apricots may help protect your liver from oxidative stress. In two animal studies, rats fed alcohol and apricots had lower levels of liver enzymes and markers of inflammation than rats given alcohol but no apricots. This research suggests that apricots may help prevent liver damage because of their naturally high antioxidant content.  That said, it’s hard to know whether this fruit provides the same benefit in humans. More research is necessary.

9 Easy to add to your diet

Both fresh and dried apricots make for a quick, delicious snack or an easy addition to your favorite meal. You can add them to your diet in a variety of ways, including:

stirred into trail mix or granola

eaten fresh as a snack

sliced and added to yogurt or salad

used in jams, preserves, and
salsas

stewed in a slow-cooker with meat,
such as chicken or beef

added to
desserts like pies, cakes, and pastries

As they’re sweet and tart, apricots can be used as a replacement for peaches or plums in most recipes.

The bottom line

Apricots are a delicious fruit packed with vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants. They have multiple benefits, including improved eye, skin, and gut health. Fresh or dried, apricots are easy to add to yogurt, salads, and main meals. If you’re used to eating peaches and plums, apricots can be a great way to change up your routine.

    Collin Rugg:

Donald Trump was mocked for sounding the alarm on the California water/fire crisis during his interview with Joe Rogan.

    Turns out, he was right.

Trump spent nearly 7 minutes ranting about the issue, blasting Newsom for doing nothing to fix the problem.

Trump specifically discussed the Californian Delta Smelt controversy, where rainwater is wasted by being directed into the Pacific Ocean to protect a tiny fish species.

“You know in Los Angeles, you can’t get proper amounts of water.”

“In order to protect a tiny little fish, the water up north gets routed into the Pacific Ocean. Millions and millions of gallons of water gets poured [into the Pacific].”

“I got it all done. Nobody could believe it. It was all done. I said, I got it. You got so much water. All you have to do is sign, and [Newsom] didn’t wanna sign.”

“Every time I go to California, I say you have so much water. They don’t know it… I’m telling you, people living in Beverly Hills, they turn off the water. Same thing with the electric.”

L.A. Officials Complain There Aren’t Enough Firefighters — After Firing Hundreds Who Refused to Take COVID Vaccine

As fires rage across Los Angeles, city officials are complaining there are not enough firefighters to manage the situation.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said that the department was incapable of managing such a massive natural disaster.

“There are not enough firefighters in all of Los Angeles County to address four separate fires of this magnitude,” he said.
“The LA County Fire Department was prepared for one or two major wildfires, but not the four. This is not a normal red flag alert.”

While their lack of manpower is completely understandable given the incredible ferocity of the fires, it is worth noting that many firefighters were fired for their refusal to take the COVID vaccine.

As pointed out by the popular End Wokeness account X, local news media even ran reports back in 2021 about how firefighters had their employment terminated after refusing to provide proof of vaccination or requesting an exemption.

In fact, a group of hundreds of the city’s firefighters even filed a lawsuit against the city for violating their constitutional rights.

  4. EXCERPT: “….As RedState also reported, Bass wasn’t the only elected Democrat official in the Golden State who got put on blast Wednesday.

President-Elect Donald Trump ripped into Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) big time, noting that the far-left Democrat, “refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way.”

That was done, Trump correctly pointed out, in a failed effort to save the “smelt” fish. “He is to blame for this,” Trump went on to declare via his Truth Social account.

As Newsom traveled to some of the impacted areas Wednesday for his standard photo op, CNN’s Anderson Cooper talked to him for a few minutes and brought up what Trump had to say. Newsom pretended to get emotional, claiming he was holding back from what he really wanted to say, and then whined about Trump allegedly “politicizing” the tragedy amid the loss of lives and homes:

“I stood next to the President of the United States of America today, and I was proud to be with Joe Biden and he had the backs of every single person in this community. He didn’t play politics, didn’t try to divide any of us.

Cooper: I hate to even ask this question, but the President-Elect chose to attack you, blaming you for this.

Newsom: It’s, uh, one can’t even respond to it. I mean, it’s, uh, people… are literally fleeing. People have lost their lives. Kids lost their schools. Families completely torn asunder. Churches burned down. This guy wanted to politicize it. I-I have a lot of thoughts and I know what I want to say. I won’t.

First things first, why did Cooper “hate” to ask that question of Newsom? I think the answer is pretty obvious but that’s a subject for another day.

Secondly, Newsom lost the right to criticize anyone for allegedly “politicizing” a tragedy considering all the times he’s politicized a mass shooting or natural disaster or anything else he could politicize just to keep his name in the national headlines at a time when he was trying to present himself as a viable alternative to Joe Biden.

Thirdly, Newsom inadvertently made Trump’s point in talking about what residents have had to do since the fires started. Who has been in charge in California over the last couple of decades or so statewide and in the big cities? Democrats like Newsom, all of who enact policies that cause people to flee one way or the other, whether it’s due to coddling criminals or lack of preparedness for the exact types of dangerous situations that have unfolded in recent weeks.

Lastly, contra to Newsom’s claim, now is exactly the time to talk about what went wrong and who failed the citizens of the state. The only reason he rejects the timing of the criticism is because he’s the one on the receiving end of it. Too bad, as California Assemblyman Bill Essayli wrote in a detailed Twitter/X thread:

For everyone saying this is not a time for blame, this is exactly the moment that the people who have been responsible for the mismanagement of California’s fire policies be held accountable.

Our governor has been obsessed with holding a special session to “Trump-proof” CA, when he should be focused on FIRE-PROOFING our communities.

Here are a few hard facts about the democrat-run state’s failures to address fire prevention:” Read his full thread here……”

  5. EXCERPT: “There’s so much sad news coming out of the Los Angeles area the past couple of days as wildfires rage uncontrolled in Pacific Palisades, Altadena and other communities, wiping out entire neighborhoods and turning the sky into an apocalyptic pall.

But this is ‘Merica, and during these types of disasters, you often see heroes go above and beyond to help others. Veterinarian Annie Harvilicz is one of those heroes, as she turned an empty hospital into a sanctuary for pets stranded by the evacuations when their owners were sometimes unable to take them with them.

She runs two animal hospitals, but neither of them is close to the Palisades. What to do? It was when she was asked by her brother to look after his cat and his bunny that she had a brilliant idea:

In thinking about where to shelter Winston and Oreo, Harvilicz realized she had a perfect spot. Two weeks ago, she had moved her Marina del Rey hospital to a new building just a block away, and she still had access to the old building. When she brought the cat and the bunny there, she got an idea.

“I looked around and was like, ‘There’s going to be other people that need help, and we have all this empty space. Let’s use it,’” said Harvilicz.

And so she did, and the idea was an immediate hit.

She put out an offer on social media: “I am happy to house any animals that need to be evacuated. If you know anyone who needs to leave and doesn’t have a place for their pets please have them email me,” she wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday morning.

Requests from pet owners began to trickle in, as she expected. But then something unexpected happened: Harvilicz’s inbox began blowing up with hundreds of people volunteering to help her however they could.

“For every person who needed help, there were 50 people offering to help,” she said. “It brings tears to my eyes.”

    Watch her tell her story:

    https://x.com/ABCNewsLive/status/1877123526164959467

So far, she’s taken in approximately 40 dogs and cats and Oreo the rabbit. “I had a family bring in 10 dogs, and they had to leave behind their horses,” she said. “To me, this is a no-brainer. I looked around and said, ‘I have a lot of space here. I can help.’”…..

  6. Just The News: “President-elect Donald Trump had harsh words for the wind industry at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, saying he would try to enact policies stopping the building of wind farms.

“They litter our country,” he said. “They’re littered all over our country like dropping paper, like dropping garbage in a field. And that’s what happens to them, because in a period of time, they turn to garbage, most expensive energy ever. They only work if you get subsidy.”

Trump also said wind farm developers are “getting rich” off the projects as a direct result of the government subsidies the projects receive.

“It’s the most expensive energy there is. It’s many, many times more expensive than clean, natural gas. So we’re going to try and have a policy where no windmills are being built,” Trump said.

Trump also stated that offshore wind projects are “driving the whales crazy” and expressed surprise that environmentalists are supportive of the wind industry.”

  7. EXCERPT: “Over the last decade, America’s ruling class has used the threat of “mis-, dis-, and mal-information” to justify turning the awesome powers of the administrative state against domestic Wrongthinkers from elite orthodoxy. The most insidious and far-reaching manifestation of this phenomenon has been seen in the Censorship-Industrial Complex, which has eroded our First Amendment, thereby imperiling the republic itself.

Alarmingly, a new report indicates that the Supreme Court — which refused to bring the censorship regime to justice — not only shares this regime’s concerns about “disinformation,” but likewise supports robust and widespread action to “combat” it. The report comes from Chief Justice John Roberts himself.

Roberts took to his recently released annual review to elucidate what he sees as the key threats to the independence of his fellow justices, and thereby the rule of law itself. He distinguishes between “strong and passionate reactions” to and “informed criticism” of the court on the one hand, and independence-threatening “illegitimate activity” on the other.

Among the four types of activities that the chief justice identifies as illegitimate is “disinformation,” writing that disinformation includes “distortion of the factual or legal basis for a ruling,” which “can undermine confidence in the court system.” He laments that the court is ill-suited to “combat this problem” since judges are generally silent on their rulings.

“To make matters worse,” the chief justice adds, citing concerns laid out in his 2019 year-end report, “the modern disinformation problem is magnified by social media, which provides a ready channel to ‘instantly spread rumor and false information.’” Then, he endorsed “civic education as the best antidote for combating the epidemic of misinformation.”

Today Roberts asserts that “much more is needed — and on a coordinated, national scale — not only to counter traditional disinformation, but also to confront a new and growing concern from abroad … [whereby] hostile foreign state actors have accelerated their efforts to attack all branches of our government, including the judiciary.” They do so, he argues, through misrepresenting decisions “using fake or exaggerated narratives to foment discord within our democracy,” or other times by hacking sensitive information “in ways that compromise the public’s confidence in our processes and outcomes.”

“[W]e must as a nation publicize the risks and take all appropriate measures to stop them,” the chief justice concludes. [Emphasis mine]….”

Medical Debt Banned from Credit Reports by New Biden Administration Rule

Unpaid medical bills will no longer appear on credit reports, where they can block people from getting mortgages, car loans or small business loans, according to a final rule announced Tuesday by the Biden administration.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule will remove $49 billion in medical debt from the credit reports of more than 15 million Americans, according to the bureau, which means lenders will no longer be able to take that into consideration when deciding whether to issue a loan.

The change is estimated to raise the credit scores by an average of 20 points and could lead to 22,000 additional mortgages being approved every year, according to the bureau.

Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement announcing the rule that it would be “lifechanging” for millions of families. — CBS News

  15. Speaking of Fetterman’s wife…..

EXCERPT: “….Relatedly, there has also been Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) who though he campaigned for the Harris-Walz ticket also expressed interest in working with Trump should he emerge victorious in November.

As it turns out, Fetterman – who has experienced a political evolution of sorts over the last couple of years – has been true to his word, co-sponsoring the Senate’s Laken Riley Act over Senate Democrat objections, and keeping an open mind and meeting with some of Trump’s nominees ahead of their confirmation hearings:

“I enjoyed meeting @SeanDuffyWI and expect to vote YES on his nomination. We agreed on many things, especially appreciating him quietly acknowledging the Steelers are better than the Packers.”

    https://x.com/JohnFetterman/status/1877141038885724201

    There was also this:

“2 dudes, 2 better halves, bipartisanship, 67 counties, a stronger Pennsylvania.”

In reply to McCormick: “Great to break bread with @SenFettermanPA, Gisele, & Dina to talk about where we can work together to best serve PA – from stopping the spread of fentanyl, to fighting antisemitism & supporting Israel, & providing the best constituent services for the people of our commonwealth.”

But it’s Fetterman’s latest move that may send his fellow Democrats over the edge:

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has accepted an invitation from President-elect Donald Trump to meet with him at his Mar-a-Lago estate, according to multiple sources familiar with the plans.

    […]

“I think that one, he’s the president, or he will be officially,” Fetterman said. “And I think it’s pretty reasonable that if the president would like to have a conversation — or invite someone to have a conversation — to have it. And no one is my gatekeeper.”

Say what you want about Fetterman, but he is his own man and does not play by the conventional rules of politics where you’re put in this box or that box because of the letter you have beside your name.

Well before the 2024 elections, Fetterman read the room, identified the shifting political/cultural landscape not just nationally but in his backyard, and responded accordingly with moderation in some instances and outright (and justifiable) defiance of his party in others, like on the Israel-Hamas war, for instance.

Even if he doesn’t do the party switch thing at some point, he’s emerged as a formidable political headache for Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and a surprising ally for Senate Republicans at a critical time in our nation’s history. That will be welcome news in the coming months as Trump’s agenda works its way through both chambers.

    As always, stay tuned!”

  16. Just The News: “The Senate on Thursday voted to advance the “Laken Riley Act” past a critical procedural threshold, clearing the way for a final vote on the legislation.

The upper chamber cleared the vote 84 to 9, with a large majority of Senate Democrats voting in favor, The Hill reported. The House of Representatives passed the bill earlier this week, meaning it could reach the president’s desk in time for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

If passed, the act would mandate the detention of illegal immigrants charged with an array of crimes. The bill is named for the late University of Georgia student who was murdered last year by Jose Ibarra, an illegal immigrant who received life in prison.

The House vote saw 48 Democrats joined Republicans to pass the bill outright in a 264 to 159 vote.”

“‘Net-Zero’ ESG banking cartel continues collapse in aftermath of Trump victory — The anti-humans pushing the climate narrative find their mission on life support.”

    Jordan Schachtel, Jan 09, 2025

“BlackRock announced on Thursday that it is leaving the Net-Zero Banking Alliance. The asset management behemoth becomes the latest U.S. megacorporation to leave the ESG climate narrative coalition after President-elect Trump defeated Kamala Harris on Election Day.

The move follows the departure of the six biggest U.S. banks—Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Citi, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and JP Morgan—from the group after Election Day.

Charles Gasparino of the New York Post, who first broke the BlackRock news, remarked on X that it represents a “massive blow to the ESG investing movement.”

The Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) was established in April 2021, at the height of Covid hysteria, under the auspices of the United Nations. Initially, the NZBA attracted 43 major global banks, representing a significant portion of the world’s banking assets.

Members of the NZBA committed to a set of anti-human principles that included transitioning to “net-zero” emmisons, or rolling back human progress for the sake of the climate hoax narrative. They set to achieve “targets” by claiming, based on the opinions of carefully selected “climate scientists,” (think: those on the payroll of the cartel) that humanity had the ability and the resources to dial back the temperature a few degrees Fahrenheit above pre-industrial levels. Of course, what they never reveal is that such maneuvers will harm the entire world’s population for the sake of the climate narrative mafia…..”
