1 Your wardrobe.

Many people keep old clothes which have become clutter. Consider how often you wear each item. Are they adding value? If not, they’re just getting in the way, or even worse making you feel bad about yourself, and should probably be rehomed. Sort through your closet and dresser drawers and get rid of anything you really aren’t going to wear again. Chances are, you’ll find more stuff than you thought. And when you’re done? Ethically get rid of those clothes by finding a new home for that stuff! Sell it, donate it, swap it with a friend – just don’t send it to the landfill.

2 Your kitchen pantry.

The kitchen pantry is a great area to declutter in the new year. Things tend to get shuffled around, shoved to the back, and pushed out of sight and out of mind that need to be dusted off and brought forward. It’s also a good idea to check your expiration dates and get rid of anything past its prime – it might take a while, but spices, soups, and canned goods do eventually expire.

3 Your medicine cabinet.

Like spices, prescriptions don’t last forever. Every medicine out there has an expiration date, even the over-the-counter stuff you keep around to fight off a cold. For safety reasons, it’s a good idea to declutter expired items. If you haven’t gone through your medicine cabinet recently, it’s a good spot to declutter for the new year. Make sure to check for appropriate ways to dispose of expired medicine.

4 Your makeup & toiletries.

Yes, even makeup and toiletry items have a shelf life. Things like lotion don’t seem like they should go bad, but eventually, they do. Old items can also collect bacteria so it’s a good idea to go through these areas in your bathroom from time to time. Even if items aren’t spoiled, you’re likely to find makeup products to declutter because you don’t use them. If there is still a lot of usable product left, consider giving it to a friend or list it with your local Buy Nothing group.

5 Your subscriptions.

One thing you should declutter for the new year that most people don’t consider? Your subscriptions! You can subscribe to virtually anything nowadays. From audio and video streaming services to meal delivery programs, and shaving kits, you can get pretty much anything with a recurring payment. And since those recurring payments are out of sight and out of mind, we don’t think about them and may not realize they’ve become a money drain. Take advantage of the new year as a time to review your subscriptions and declutter – or unsubscribe from – any you no longer need. You’ll eliminate clutter and save some money! 

6 Your email inbox.

Digital clutter is absolutely a thing – and it can be harder to manage than physical clutter. If you’re one of those people whose unread emails are in the thousands, you certainly aren’t alone. But you can take some steps to reduce your digital clutter. It will keep things a little more manageable, making it easier to find what you need and skip over the stuff that you don’t.  You might be amazed to see just how much of an impact a quick ‘unsubscribe’ session and a few inbox filters can make. 

7 Your junk drawer.

Most homes have at least one junk drawer. Filled with the most random assortment of odds and ends you can possibly think of, it’s a place where lots of things go to be totally forgotten. If it’s been a minute since you’ve looked through your junk drawer, add it to your list of things to declutter for the new year. Spend a few minutes getting rid of the stuff you don’t need, and find a proper home for the stuff worth keeping.  When you’re done, you might just realize you don’t even need a junk drawer.

8 Your desk drawer.

One more thing you should declutter for the new year? Your desk drawer! This is especially true if you’re working from home. Between all of the pens, pencils, binder clips, paper clips, extra staples, rubber bands, thumbtacks, and other random odds and ends that find their way in here, it can be difficult to keep everything organized. And without organization, all that stuff quickly becomes a cluttered mess. Finding the thing you need becomes impossible. And what good is that? If you don’t already have one, invest in a desk drawer organizer to keep the stuff you’re going to keep neatly separated and easy to find.

9 Your cords and cables.

Pretty much everyone has one: a random spot where miscellaneous cords and cables are hidden. We keep them around – sometimes without even knowing what they’re even for – on the off-chance something breaks and you just happen to have the right one to swap it with. That’s a whole lot of stuff to hold on to for a just-in-case scenario that doesn’t play out too often. Before the new year, sort through all of those cords and cables – and let go of the ones you realistically don’t need to keep. Spoiler alert – that’s likely most of them!

10 Your craft supplies. 

Love to craft in your spare time, or have a kid who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and getting creative? Chances are, you’ve got more craft supplies than you really need. Between all of the construction paper, glitter glue, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, stickers, and other miscellaneous odds and ends that can be put to good use during art projects, it can be tough to keep it all organized. Take some time in the new year to evaluate what you’ve got and get rid of anything you know you won’t use again. It will make organizing your craft supplies much easier!

11 Your board game collection.

If you and your family love to play board games as we do, you might have a bigger collection than you really need. Go through your collection and keep your favorite games. Make that overflowing game closet manageable by decluttering your games at least once a year and donating the ones you no longer play to someone who could really use them. 

12 Your kitchen counters.

Counters are often a magnet for random household junk. They attract the items waiting to be put away and dealt with. All of those dumped items take away from your counter space making it more difficult to work in there as well as making your home look cluttered. Counters are a great area to declutter for the new year. It doesn’t take too much time and has a big impact on the look, feel, and function of your space.

13 Your drinkware.

Some people tend to collect different cups and glasses throughout the year – only to find themselves with a too-full cupboard and nowhere to store the overflow. Others stock up on more water bottles than one person should reasonably own. If you fall into either of these categories, you should absolutely spend a minute decluttering your drinkware. And don’t just throw away the ones you don’t need – you can donate any unwanted glasses, cups, or bottles to a local organization in need.

14 Your schedule.

A new year is a great time to re-evaluate your commitments. See where your schedule reflects your values and where it doesn’t. If you are a people pleaser, you’re more likely to say yes and overcommit, which can leave you feeling exhausted and regretful. Take the opportunity now to declutter your schedule and create boundaries with your time.

15 Your fridge.

Does it smell kinda strange every time you open your refrigerator? Maybe you know this task needs to happen but you’ve been putting it off. Start the year with a clean fridge. Declutter anything that is past its date or smells or looks bad. Once you’ve gotten the gross stuff out, wipe down the shelves with some cleaner. Then you can happily open your fridge without cringing.

16 Your phone.

Our phones get used a lot…probably too much. With all of the apps, tabs, and photos, phones can become a cluttered mess. Take a few minutes here and there to work on deleting apps you don’t use. Eliminate those duplicate and blurry pictures. It may take some time to make your phone a clutter-free zone, but it’s well worth the effort.

17 Your shoes.

Life is too short for uncomfortable shoes. If you have shoes you never wear, shoes that are falling apart, or shoes that hurt your feet, do yourself a favor and start the year off by decluttering them. Improperly fitting shoes can cause problems and pain in your feet. No matter how cute the shoe is, it’s not worth it. Clear that space up in your closet and declutter those shoes. Your feet will thank you.

18 Your books.

If you’re in the camp that thinks that books simply cannot be considered clutter, then I’m sorry to disagree with you. Even if you insist they are not clutter in your home, they can be clutter to other people. From my perspective, books that are never used and sit on a shelf collecting dust for years have become clutter. Books are meant to be read and enjoyed and passed along to others to read. If bookshelves filled to the brim with books are overtaking your space, the new year is a great opportunity to re-evaluate them.

19 Your feed.

If you spend any amount of time on Facebook, Instagram, or any other social media platform, you know your feed can become cluttered. Cultivate a feed that you feel good about by unfollowing, snoozing, or hiding the pages and people that aren’t adding to your life or your mental well-being. Social media can be a positive place, but it does require carefully curating your feed.

20 Your thoughts.

Do you often have to-do lists running through your mind and distracting you from your life? It’s time to declutter them by getting them down on paper or saved on your phone. With all of the distractions in today’s world, mental clutter becomes a very real thing. The new year is a great time to get the clutter out of your head and create systems that work for you.

21 Your relationships.

Decluttering relationships is no easy task, but it can be a necessary one. While in some cases you may not be able to shut certain relationships out of your life, you can create definitive boundaries in order to protect yourself. This year consider which relationships you want to invest more time and energy into, and also which ones have potentially become toxic that you need to distance yourself from.

22 Your past.

Likewise, letting go of your past is not easy. That is not to say forget everything that happened in your life, but rather, work through and deal with things if you need to. Prioritize your mental health. Let go of negative self-talk or patterns of behavior that are holding you back in your life. Sometimes letting go of clutter is dealing with the emotional clutter you’re carrying and working to let that go. A new year before you is the perfect time to focus on things you’ve pushed aside, but know in the back of your mind that you needed to address. Let go of those burdens and find freedom in a fresh start.

23 Your unrealistic expectations.

Whether the unrealistic expectations you’ve been holding onto have been of yourself or of others, the new year is an opportunity to let those go as well. Go easy on yourself and be willing to forgive others. That is not to say allow toxic relationships in your life. However, sometimes our unrealistic expectations of others negatively impact relationships that could otherwise be healthy and good. If you have perfectionist tendencies, it can be particularly challenging to let go of what you expect of yourself. Remind yourself that no one is perfect and that your best is good enough. It won’t always be easy, but it’s a worthwhile pursuit.

24 Your negative self-talk.

Sometimes we’re the ones that get in our own way. If you struggle with negativity or are overly critical of yourself, it can not only take you down but also hold you back in life. Consider adding positive mindset habits into your daily routine. Start and end your days with positive thoughts. It will help to set the tone for your day and prepare you for rest. And be kinder to yourself. Often we are our own worst critics. Extend the same grace and care to yourself that you give to others.  If you catch yourself dwelling on destructive or unhelpful thoughts replace them with constructive ones.  A positive life doesn’t come from a negative mindset. Thankfully there are ways to change your mindset and improve how you’re feeling.

      Wanted to ask Pat if that was your living room after a dumpster-thrift store run!

      Hee-hee – – just kidding!

      No one needs to declutter more than me. I haven’t downsized since the divorce after all the stuff from 31 years of marriage was stuffed into my small house. I’ve been busy decluttering my heart/soul/mind, traveling back and forth taking care of Sally Q, maintaining and modifying her equipment, driving her and her dad to appointments.

      My garage and house, closets, are stuffed with stuff, either handicap equipment or boxes of dishes, cookbooks (that old saying, a way to a mans heart is his stomach is not true), stuff I’ve never unpacked – I even have a bunch of books on decluttering.

      With this time of cancer care and hospice, the decluttering of all that stuff likely won’t get done any time soon.

      I’ve copied this whole post! Maybe someday, I’ll get back to art and into the writing that I feel called to do.

      1. Before hubby started working from home, I was very organized. I had all the “business” of running the house and such in the desk drawers. I had my craft item bins carefully organized and labeled and i knew where everything was!
        we have storage in the basement part of the garage and those bins were clearly organized and labeled.
        hubby needed the desk so i put a lot of papers into binders and we came to a consensus on where the “not needed now” stuff should go–into a drawer i gave up for that purpose.
        then he needed more space for his work papers as the years multiplied and i gave up that drawer for…i forget! lol
        I have things scattered everywhere and it gets worse when company stays–because they sleep in that room and bring luggage and so i move things yet AGAIN.
        I opened a bin the other day i was sure held my ribbon/lace scraps and found a project i started years ago. (and now of course, I wanna finish it.)
        life is a journey and i think i need to make myself a map!

    1. Morning, Pat! I don’t have a problem getting rid of stuff – my problem is finding anyone who wants it! And I do like to keep “things” around for re-purposing…like boxes….I have WAY too many of those! And I’m determined this coming spring to get my patio cleared of junk.

      Cloudy skies this morning, 28 with more snow overnight and 3-5 inches predicted in the coming days. But at least it isn’t windy!

    Emboldened by correctly predicting Kamala would get the debate questions in advance (oh, I apologize, ABC, it was just the topics, not the questions, so it’s all good and you smell like a rose), I’m going to go way out on a limb with another prediction: Joe Biden will issue mass pardons to the J6 inmates. Before you say I’m crazy, here are numerous reasons why he might do it:

    • It steals Donald Trump’s thunder of doing it himself five minutes after the inauguration
    • Many J6 inmates are getting out anyway in a few weeks
    • The J6 insurrection narrative is going to collapse as the evidence comes out
    • Too many Americans know the J6 sentences were way too extreme
    • It is an indirect knock on the DoJ for going after Hunter
    • It generates some much-needed goodwill for the Democrat party
    • It places J6ers and their families in the awkward position of having to thank Joe Biden
    • It allows Biden one last chance to bask in the limelight
    • It will deflect attention from Biden’s commutations of murderers and Chinese spies
    • It’s a hedge against Biden’s pardons being challenged on grounds he’s mentally incapacitated
    • It might reduce the desire to go after the actual J6 plotters
    • It can be conveniently worded to include Ray Epps, other operatives, and even plotters
    • Conversely, it could be worded to expose the J6 plotters (such as Nancy Pelosi) who ousted Joe

    Here are some reasons why he might not do it:

    • Biden hates Trump so much he wouldn’t want to concede anything
    • Biden’s own personal involvement in, or knowledge of, the J6 plot
    • His handlers won’t let him
    • Fear of retribution from the Deep State

    To me, the reasons he might do it far outweigh the reasons he might not do it. While writing about a potential presidential action can either encourage or deter it, I don’t think that matters in this case; whatever Biden does or doesn’t do, he won’t be swayed by an article he never read, so he’ll own the action, just as I’ll own the prediction. If he does issue the mass pardons, I’ll be sure to remind you. If he doesn’t, I hope you forget you ever read this.

    Authorities say Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, from Houston, had an ISIS flag strapped to the rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck he used to carry out an act of premeditated terror on New Year’s Day.

    Jabbar lived in a trailer park blocks away from a mosque.

    Shamsud-Din Jabbar was a US-born military veteran who went from success to a squalid Houston trailer park where sheep roamed his yard. 

    He served in the Army for more than a decade and deployed to Afghanistan before he carried out his ISIS-inspired attack on Wednesday, according to his service record. Working as an IT specialist, he was stationed in Afghanistan from February 2009 until January 2010, the service branch said in a summary of military experience.

    In a YouTube video he posted in 2020 for his real estate business, a clean-cut Jabbar described himself as a reliable, trustworthy native Texan who spent 10 years in the military, which taught him “the meaning of great service.”

    But when he carried out the terror attack — one of the deadliest since 9/11 — Jabbar lived in a squalid trailer park on the outskirts of Houston that is home to mostly Muslim immigrants. Geese, chickens and sheep roamed freely in Jabbar’s yard when The Post visited hours after the attack.

    One neighbor told The Post she spoke only Urdu, Pakistan’s national language. The neighborhood is also within walking distance of the local mosque, Masjid Bilal — where no one answered the telephone on Wednesday. Law enforcement sources told The Post that they found videos Jabbar made where he referenced the Quran — Islam’s holy text.

    Jabbar traveled to Egypt for 10 days last year, officials told The Post…..”

    Matthew Whitaker can help President Trump re-order NATO starting by first by turning down the temperature and second by hounding both parties toward peace. America is who moves the chess pieces on NATO’s board. The fact that the U.S. is by and large the most significant financier of NATO affairs accounting for 68 percent of all spending in 2023 certainly has something to do with that.

    When former NATO Ambassador Julianne Smith spoke to a blob infestation known as the Defense Writers Group back in June, she dismissed Americans who questioned the need to pump billions into NATO and Ukraine to counterbalance Russia as “18-to-25-year-olds” who don’t understand the value of the 75-year alliance.

    Our Take:

    Donald Trump explicitly warned Europe that this was going to happen.

    In fact, here is a picture of him right after he made this exact point to former German Prime Minister Angela Merkel: that Germany had become reliant on Russian natural gas, and therefore asking the United States to fund NATO — a military defense alliance purportedly assembled to guard against Russian aggression — was preposterous.

    President Trump is always right when it comes to just about everything geopolitics. (Politics, in general, really.) He’s a pretty smart guy; seems to know a great deal about history, among other things, and all of his predictions keep coming true. Weird, right?

    Europe is about to plunge into a deep hole that will be very difficult to climb out from, and they have nobody to blame for it but themselves and their ridiculous self-destructive policies. (Yes, I realize that they are controlled by pedophile elites, just like the United States.)

    Everyone is acting alone except for the fact the two suspects attacked on the same day, rented their cars from the same company, and served on the same military base.

    U.S. — Following its poor performance in the attack outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas this week, the Tesla Cybertruck was unanimously voted Worst Vehicle by members of the National Association of Terrorist Car Bombers.

    The group took an official survey of its membership after the Trump Hotel bombing, with a startling 100% of responders giving the Cybertruck the lowest possible score for its suitability for the association’s work.

    “Terrible job. Hard pass,” said Anthony Larson, Vice President of the NATCB. “While other manufacturers do a great job of designing vehicles that perform well during terrorist bombing attacks, Tesla has really dropped the ball with the Cybertruck. It has shown itself to be completely inadequate for our needs. Not sure what Elon Musk and his team were thinking when they were making this one.”

    Other members of the organization were equally disappointed. “It’s almost as if Tesla gave no consideration to how the Cybertruck would do when fashioned into a weapon of mass destruction,” said Anwar Al Habib. “How are we supposed to use this vehicle to kill innocent, unsuspecting people when the bomb blast barely makes it out of the cab? Ridiculous. Give me an old windowless Dodge van, thank you.”

    While members did compliment the Cybertruck for its innovative look, surprising towing strength, and energy efficiency, they all said its dreadful rating as a car bombing vehicle was a deal-breaker.

    At publishing time, in yet another poor review, the Cybertruck had also been named Worst in Class by Car Bomber magazine.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a formal statement, the FBI has called on Internet sleuths, particularly X users, to please stop solving crimes before they have a chance to do so.

    The statement comes just hours after X users discovered all suspects and motives related to the recent terror attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas.

    The statement reads in part:

    “It is in the public interest that all X users stop solving crimes immediately. Solving crime is the responsibility of the federal government and local law enforcement. If we do not solve crimes first, we cannot control the narrative, and that’s important for national security reasons we cannot discuss at this time.”

    “You’re going to put us all out of a job,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray, commenting on the public statement. “We’re supposed to be the ones solving crimes. Please stop demonstrating how useless we are.”

    As an incentive, the FBI is promising not to raid anyone who complies. “All you have to do is not report on suspects, observe obvious connections to other crimes, or complain when we prosecute parents of school-aged children,” a spokesman for the bureau explained. “You scratch our back, we leave your back alone. Get it?”

    At publishing time, the FBI prosecuted an X user for interfering with a cover-up.

    “Happy New Year, patriots! And as we kick off 2025 and anticipate the inauguration of the Donald Trump administration, we’re reminded to stay focused on the work ahead. The warnings: A terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day that killed 15 people and injured dozens more. Hours later, a Tesla turned into an improvised explosive device is detonated in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas; the driver was killed and injured others.  It’s a hard way to start 2025 — and it’s a sharp reminder that our long struggle against the forces of darkness isn’t over.

    It’s the job of federal law enforcement to intercept and stop operations like those that killed 16 people this week. At least that was the point of bulking out the FBI in the wake of 9/11 — to stop terror attacks. Then under the direction of Robert Mueller, the FBI got bigger budgets and more power inside the Beltway. But instead of using its resources to protect the American public, it turned its power and its powerful programs against Americans and their leaders.

    It started no later than 2015 when, according to congressional investigators, we saw the first evidence of the plot against Donald Trump, as Hillary Clinton campaign contractors, federal law enforcement officials, and the media set in motion Russiagate. This established the template for every other subsequent operation against Trump, his aides, and even his supporters.

    First man down was Trump’s national security advisor, now board chair of America’s Future, General Mike Flynn. When Trump asked then-FBI Director James Comey to lay off Flynn, the crooked lawman leaked it to the media to get a special counsel appointed — none other than Robert Mueller. For nearly two years, Mueller and his corrupt crew hounded the President. And when it was over, America’s domestic adversaries turned the country upside down with a phony impeachment proceeding designed to cover up then-candidate, later president, Joe Biden’s corrupt dealings in Ukraine.

    Leading into the 2020 race, the FBI and other U.S. agencies conspired again to hide Biden’s corruption by, one, forcing social media platforms to censor reports of Hunter Biden’s laptop and, two, publishing a letter signed by former U.S. spies that his laptop was nothing but “Russian disinformation.” With Biden elected, it was open season on the American people, especially Trump and his aides and supporters. Thousands were accused of raising an insurrection for simply exercising their free-speech rights at a rally on January 6, 2021; then they were swept up in an FBI dragnet, and many of them unlawfully detained for years.

    And as federal law enforcement began to hunt pro-life activists, school parents, and other law-abiding citizens, the Justice Department renewed its campaign against Trump and his aides, bringing two federal cases against the now president-elect. Having run that gauntlet successfully, then-candidate Trump was exposed to two assassination attempts, either through incompetence or malice.

    With Trump elected and on the verge of assuming office again, can Americans really be shocked that the FBI missed two terror attacks on American soil? We’re confident that Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, a great patriot and friend of America’s Future, can set this once-storied law enforcement agency straight. But we can’t afford to get complacent — the long war waged against common sense American citizens is not over.

    Now we know what Ronald Reagan meant when he said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

    And now we understand what Benjamin Franklin was trying to convey about the fragility of our political system when he described the newly formed government as “a republic — if you can keep it.” We cannot be lulled back to sleep because Trump won. Rather, adhering to our republican way of life means honoring and rejoicing in the heritage and culture of We the People.”
