Fun Facts About the Presidents” Part 2

The first White House bowling alley was a birthday present for Harry Truman

In 1947, 33rd U.S. president Harry Truman became responsible for having a bowling alley installed in the West Wing in celebration of his 63rd birthday. He became the first person to ever throw a bowling ball down the White House lane, and one of the seven pins he knocked down is on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

Bill Clinton is a My Little Pony expert

During a segment on the NPR show “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me!” 42nd U.S. president Bill Clinton was quizzed about the animated movie My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. To the amazement of his hosts, he nailed all three questions and won a prize on behalf of the listener for whom he was playing.

Clint Eastwood was almost vice president under George H.W. Bush

While running for office in 1988, then-presidential nominee George Bush was not feeling lucky, so he considered bringing on Dirty Harry actor Clint Eastwood, who had been mayor of Carmel, California, to help breathe life into his struggling campaign. Bush famously chose Dan Quayle as his running mate instead.

James Garfield could write in Greek with one hand and Latin with the other

The ambidextrous U.S. president, James Garfield, could write in two languages simultaneously: Latin and Greek. He taught both languages while attending the acclaimed Williams College in Massachusetts, where he was later named president before going on to be elected as the 20th president of the United States.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president to name a woman to his cabinet

In 1933, our 32nd U.S. president hired Frances Perkins as the first woman cabinet member, specifically secretary of labor. She had previously worked for him when he was governor of New York.

Abraham Lincoln allowed seances in the White House

During Abraham Lincoln’s term, first lady Mary Todd Lincoln reportedly invited mediums to the White House to call on departed spirits through seances. While there’s no definitive evidence, the president was said to have attended some of the events. He was also thought to believe in the occult to an extent.

Three presidents are Grammy winners

It may sound odd, but Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter have each won a Grammy. No, they’re not singers or songwriters, but they did nab prizes for Best Spoken Word Album for the audio versions of their biographies.

George Washington’s teeth were made of something more disturbing than wood

It’s a popular misconception that our first U.S. president’s teeth were made of wood. In fact, they were made of something even worse: other people’s teeth—likely those of slaves or impoverished people. The dentures apparently also contained ivory.

Two rival presidents died on the exact same day

Although friendly in their personal lives, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were political competitors. On his deathbed, Adams is believed to have uttered “Thomas Jefferson still survives,” in a final act of rivalry. Little did he know that Jefferson had died hours earlier.

America’s eighth U.S. president was the first to be born stateside

Here’s a fact about one of the U.S. presidents you may not have learned in school: There were seven official U.S. presidents before Martin Van Buren, the first president to actually be born in the United States, took office. Van Buren was the eighth U.S. president. In fairness, the United States was not even founded until 1776, two years before George Washington took office, but facts are facts.

One of President Tyler’s grandchildren is still alive

How is it possible that a grandchild of our nation’s 10th president, John Tyler, who was born one year after George Washington took office and elected to office himself in 1841, is still alive, as of February 2024? The president was 75 when his last child was born in 1928, and the grandson is a descendant of that son.

No one could dance in the White House during James Polk’s tenure

The wife of 11th U.S. President James Polk was a strict Presbyterian and looked down upon dancing, so it was banned in the White House while her husband was in office, including at the Inaugural Ball. She also disapproved of horse racing and the theater.

Ulysses S. Grant’s middle initial stood for nothing

You might know who is buried in Grant’s tomb, but do you know what his middle initial stood for? Well, neither did he. Apparently, it came from a typo on his application to West Point.

  1. Morning All!

pardon my rude departure last night–my butt hit my chair and i fell right to sleep.

we’re supposed to get warmer weather this week–maybe in the 40’s a day or two–that might make a big mess with the snow that’s still everywhere. we’ll see…

    1. Good morning, Pat! Wonder of wonders! Piper called me last night and we chatted and laughed for 1/2 hour! I had her laughing so hard she almost peed her pants! Now that she’s old enough, we can REALLY talk honestly! I will say this – she knows a LOT more than I ever did at 15!!!! Holy cow! She received an OSS (out-of-school suspension) for vaping in the bathroom! Ooops! A bit too early for that, GF.

She is also familiar with “tucking” as practiced by male gays and the pockets that all men have on both sides of their groins. She saw it on the internet, of course. I explained to her how I discovered those little factoids first-hand from my gay friend.

Poor kid! She found out that her closest friend, who she dearly loved, has been using her all along to pay her way since her family is very poor, then turned and stabbed her in the back. Any time they went to events together, Piper always paid the entrance fee for both of them.

Life sucks sometimes and we have to learn to deal with such things. IIRC, this is the girl she was so enamored with way back when she declared she was bi-sexual. I asked her if she was still bi and she said yes but very tentative and in a small voice. I think it’s a case of wanting to belong and to be accepted.

awesome that she called and talked…but ima show my ignorance here–what pockets??? what you talkin’ ’bout Willis?

yup, a betrayal by a friend is hard, i agree, but a lesson we all learn.

        1. All men have 2 small pockets in their skeleton on either side of their groin. Many men don’t even know they are there – bet your hubby doesn’t either – ask him. My hubby didn’t know. It is supposedly a leftover of cave-man days – they were able to draw their testicles up into those pockets to protect them. Even now, sometimes in the cold, they can seem to disappear.

        1. We’ve got some sunshine and warm days ahead but the temp plunges after that. Hit 60 yesterday but that was in the sun and it was pretty windy. Bright sunshine today but by Wednesday, we’re looking at a high of only 30 or so. No more snow in the forecast for now at least.

Sidney Katherine Powell VINDICATED on all accounts by the Texas Court of Appeals.

After three fucken years of litigation, in a 24-page ruling by the Texas Court of Appeals, the court rules Texas Bar miserably failed to prove Sidney Powell acted in “dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation” in the four lawsuits she filed against the overthrow of the United States government on Nov 3, 2020.

The court even caught the Bar lying,

A: “By its own admission, the Bar misidentified or failed to include multiple exhibits it claims to have relied on in its Second Amended Response,”

B: “The deficiencies go far beyond mislabeling exhibits.”

C: “The Bar not only failed to cite to or argue about any additional documents — the documents are not mentioned at all.”

D: “You have to be a damn fool, and abjectly stupid not to see what happened here.” The opinion added.

Sidney Katherine Powell was an Assistant United States Attorney in three judicial districts under 9 United States Attorneys from both political parties. She cried a few times–so happy that she had a houseful of company like she used to when we were younger. My son got a few group family photos–something i really wanted–plus other photos of us together. My granddaughter is now the tallest of the whole clan and she’s still growing. we had an awesome time and made a wonderful memory for my mom!

  5. EXCERPT: “In one of his parting gifts to the United States and the world, President Joe Biden agreed to advance a new United Nations treaty that weaponizes international criminal law against opposition to transgender policy. Under its provisions, politicians who deliberately “misgender” someone or advocate for female-only private spaces would be guilty of “gender-based persecution,” a crime against humanity. In November, the General Assembly agreed to a timeline for finalizing the treaty by 2029.

The Vatican has been warning against this treaty for more than four years because it would enshrine an open definition of gender in international criminal law, effectively replacing the sound definition of gender currently in the Rome Statute.

The Rome Statute defines gender as “the two sexes, male and female, within the context of society.” This was a hard-fought definition to clarify the meaning of “gender persecution,” a new category of crime when the International Criminal Court (ICC) was formed in 1998. It was largely the work of pro-life nongovernmental organizations in collaboration with the Holy See and other delegations during many months of negotiations.

This surprisingly good definition of gender has been sand in the gears of the international transgender juggernaut for the past two decades; Western countries have been trying to get rid of it. Now they are closer than ever to achieving their goal with a treaty that, unlike the Rome Statute, is expected to be ratified by the U.S. government. The treaty is designed to bypass U.S. objections to the Rome Statute. Rather than using international courts and controversial concepts such as universal jurisdiction as the Rome Statute did, the new treaty would use domestic courts to prosecute citizens who commit crimes against humanity defined in national criminal codes, much like the Genocide Convention, ratified by the U.S. Senate in 1986.

    Dropping the Definition of ‘Gender’

The UN General Assembly has been discussing the new treaty on crimes against humanity since 2019. The European Union and the powerful UN bureaucracy were able remove the 1998 definition of gender from the new treaty. The U.S. State Department approved of this decision after the fact, even though it is likely that deep-state operatives were shepherding the issue all along behind the back of the first Trump White House. Few have spoken out in opposition since.

The danger of dropping the definition of gender in the treaty is not self-evident to everyone. Western diplomats gaslight anyone who asks for gender to be defined. They alternately argue that the meaning of gender is self-evident and that every country should be able to define gender as they want. But make no mistake, the legal effect of dropping the definition of gender will be to enshrine an open definition of gender as a social construct in international criminal law. And this is very dangerous.Threat to Free Speech and Religious Freedom

The consequences of adopting a treaty on crimes against humanity with a broad category of gender persecution is a threat to free speech and religious freedom. The crime of gender persecution in the Rome Statute is a broad category of crime. It doesn’t just refer to murder, rape, or enslavement. It includes the catchall “any other inhumane act” that causes injury or harm combined with a pattern of persecution based on gender.

And the concept of gender is by its very nature fluid and broad. The category of “gender-based” violence is indeed very capacious. The European Union and UN agencies routinely use it to refer to LGBT issues, misgendering, denial of abortion services, and “misinformation” among other things…..”

  6. “Will Colleges Mandating COVID Shots Be Held Liable for Injuries?

A bill has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives requiring colleges that mandated the COVID-19 shots to pay the medical bills of students injured by the biological product.”

    Super Spreader, December 9, 2024

[sourceDecember 4, 2024, by Carolyn Hendler, JD

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “A bill has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives requiring colleges that mandated the COVID-19 shots to pay the medical bills of students injured by the biological product. The University Forced Vaccination Student Injury Mitigation Act, sponsored by Congressman Matt Rosendale of Montana, would force colleges to pay a student’s medical bills or lose federal funding.

Many Colleges Mandated or Incentivized the Experimental Jab

A number of colleges required the experimental mRNA COVID shot when it was first released under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) granted to Pfizer and Moderna by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some colleges offered incentives and others warned that repercussions would follow for students who refused to get the shot, including dismissal from school.

In 2021, colleges offered a variety of incentives to entice students take the novel biological product using unlicensed technology that injects synthetic mRNA encapsulated in nanoparticles into the body to program cells to produce a synthetic spike protein and antibodies to that protein. Purdue University went as far as holding a golden raffle for students who complied and got the shot.

The winning student got $9,992 or the equivalent of one year’s tuition. Students who took the shot at West Virginia University were entered into a raffle to receive laptops, gift certificates to Chick-fil-A and free zip lining classes. Missouri State gave away $150,000 worth of prizes donated by private donations to students who got the shot.

On the other extreme like many other colleges, Cornell University mandated the controversial shot for all college students and penalized students who did not comply. The prestigious university used a COVID app to track a student’s vaccine status, along with COVID test results. By the end of 2021, Cornell required all students to get the original two COVID shots together with a booster shot or face “appropriate action.” In the fall of 2022, the University of Virginia went as far as disenrolling 238 students for failing to abide by the university’s COVID shot mandate.

Colleges Hiding Behind the PREP Act

In 2021, legal experts suggested that the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act would likely protect colleges from any liability for COVID shot adverse reactions stemming from mandated COVID shots when school personnel administered the shots themselves.

The PREP Act, which went into effect in 2005, was part of a series of federal laws passed by Congress after 9-11. Known as “Bioshield” legislation, the laws granted more authority to public health officials and expanded liability protection for companies manufacturing “medical countermeasures” and individuals administering those products during a declared public health emergency. The PREP Act states that when the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) declares that a disease, health condition or threat to public health or threat of same constitutes an emergency, the Secretary may recommend the use of one or more countermeasures.

    The Prep Act sets forth:

Subject to the other provisions of this section, a covered person shall be immune from suit and liability under Federal and State law with respect to all claims for loss caused by, arising out of, relating to, or resulting from the administration to or the use by an individual of a covered countermeasure if a declaration under subsection (b) has been issued with respect to such countermeasure.

    Pay Up or Lose Funding

Rosendale seeks to end that liability shield when it comes to colleges. He warned:

If you are not prepared to face the consequences, you should have never committed the act, Colleges and universities forced students to inject themselves with an experimental vaccine knowing it was not going to prevent COVID-19 while potentially simultaneously causing life-threatening health defects like Guillain-Barre Syndrome and myocarditis. It is now time for schools to be held accountable for their brazen disregard for students’ health and pay for the issues they are responsible for causing.

The bill provides that colleges, which fail to pay student’s medical bills associated with the COVID shot, would lose federal funding.

Joseph Marine, MD of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine supports the bill. He said:

It seems reasonable to me that institutions that implemented such policies without a sound medical or scientific rationale should take responsibility for any proven medical harm that they caused.

The bill sets forth that students seeking compensation for medical expenses would submit a formal request along with their COVID shot record and certification from their medical provider explaining the complications from the shot and a detailed list of medical expenses. The current list of covered conditions includes pericarditis, myocarditis, thrombosis with thrombocytopenia, Guillain-Barre syndrome among other ailments determined by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The school would have 30 days to pay the expenses or challenge the request.

As of fall 2024, 17 universities and colleges still require the COVID shots in order to get a college education.

  7. Just The News: “The unexpected fall of the Assad regime in Syria to a ragtag team of Islamist insurgents plunged the Middle East into a new era of uncertainty and opportunity while putting the world on notice that Donald Trump’s return to power was already uprooting decades of interventionist foreign policy in America.

Trump signaled the shift in dramatic fashion, yawning at the Islamist rebels’ final push into Damascus to oust Bashar al-Assad as not a battle America needed to fight and then using its aftermath to urge Russia, long a backer of Assad, to focus instead on seeking a peaceful end to its war against Ukraine.

“There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin,” Trump implored Sunday as he pressed Russia and Ukraine in the aftermath of Assad’s stunning ouster.

“Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse. I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!”

Trump’s reaction stood in stark contrast to the man he is replacing, President Joe Biden, who declared he was communicating with the Islamist rebels who overthrew Assad and ordered massive air strikes against ISIS camps to make sure the terror group doesn’t advance in the country.

The strategy is laden with risks, as Biden noted himself. “Make no mistake, some of the rebel groups that took down Assad have their own grim record of terrorism and human rights abuses,” Biden said  Sunday. “We’ve taken note of statements by the leaders of these rebel groups in recent days and they’re saying the right things now. But as they take on greater responsibility, we will assess not just their words but their actions.”

Former CIA analyst and National Security Council chief of staff Fred Fleitz said Sunday that Trump was right to avoid direct intervention in Syria and to focus instead on stabilizing other ongoing conflicts.

“We have to stay out of this and Trump is exactly right. Trump’s America first. That means a strong and decisive president that keeps our country out of new and unnecessary wars,” Fleitz told Newsmax.

Trump gave a matter of fact response when Assad fled Syria for Russia, seeing it as an opportunity in Eastern Europe far from the civil-war-torn Mideast nation.

“Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer,” Trump said. “There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever,” he wrote in Truth Social on Sunday.

“Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success. Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians,” he added.

With just six weeks before the inauguration, Trump must navigate a turbulent world with a lame-duck U.S. president eager to continue his interventionist, world cop tactics from arming Ukraine to bombing ISIS.

Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell implored Biden to stand down in Syria, noting he stood still for a year as the country’s situation deteriorated.

“The best thing @JoeBiden and @JakeSullivan46 can do now is let @realDonaldTrump and his team take over,” Grenell wrote on X. “The Biden-Blinken-Rice-Sullivan-Sherman team has done enough damage. Just get out of the way….”

  8. Just The News: “President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday night appointed attorney Alina Habba as White House counselor, hailing her as a tireless advocate for America First policies.

Habba was a relentless defender on television and in the courtroom as Trump battled four indictments while working his way back to the White House. Trump said she was well versed in the weaponization of the “injustice” system.

“Alina has been a tireless advocate for Justice, a fierce Defender of the Rule of Law, and an invaluable Advisor to my Campaign and Transition Team,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She has been unwavering in her loyalty, and unmatched in her resolve – standing with me through numerous ‘trials,’ battles, and countless days in court.”

“As a first generation American of Middle Eastern Heritage, she has become a role model for women in Law and Politics,” he added.”

  9. freakin nuts!

The House Education Committee on Education and the Workforce is set to work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to “cut back waste” and “fraud” in higher education.

Much wasteful spending is happening on America’s college campuses. DOGE chiefs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy can push Congress to launch a thorough investigation into these questionable expenditures, particularly federally funded research projects that push far-left ideologies.

Here are 10 outrageous examples of university studies funded by taxpayer dollars obtained by Campus Reform:

    1. Gambling for Pigeons

The National Institute of Health (NIH) granted $465,339 to researchers at Reed College in Portland, Oregon to “create a token-based economy where pigeons are taught to gamble with slot machines.”

The study gave pigeons tokens that they can “earn, accumulate, spend, or gamble” on slot machines, the New York Post reports.

    2. Chimps Throwing Feces

The US National Institutes of Health spent $592,527 at Emory University in Atlanta to explore why chimpanzees throw feces. Another $117,000 was necessary to conclude that most chimps are right-handed, the Washington Examiner reports.

Their research suggests that throwing feces is a sign of intelligence in chimps.

    3. Drunken Finches

The National Institutes of Health gave $5 million to the Oregon Health & Science University to study if finches slurred their songs when alcohol was in their systems.

The birds were given white grape juice spiked with alcohol, which impacted their singing ability, NBC News reports.

    4. Bees on Cocaine

The National Institutes of Health funded over $240,000 to study the impact of cocaine on honey bees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

With cocaine in their system, the bees were more likely to dance, the researcher found.

    5. Shrimp on Treadmills

The National Science Foundation (NSF) funded $1.3 million to make shrimp run on tiny treadmills at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

The study tested how sickness impaired shrimp mobility.

    6. $500k Study if Selfies Make you Happy

A University of California, Irvine-based research team received $500,000 in federal funding to study if taking selfies makes people happy.

The 4-week study found that taking selfies boosted participants’ moods.

    7. Secret Language of French Butchers

The National Endowment for the Humanities funded $30,000 for a study at the University of Connecticut to research “a secret, highly endangered language spoken by Parisian butchers,” the New York Times reports.

    8. Bee Sting Pain

The National Science Foundation funded $1 million to a researcher at Cornell University to rank how much it hurt to be stung by honey bees on different parts of his body, Real Clear Policy reports.

Spoiler alert, it’s the nostrils, upper lip, and genitals. The researcher endured roughly 200 bee stings.

    9. Sexy Goldfish

The National Science Foundation awarded $3.6 million to a study at Bowdoin College in Maine, where a portion of this funding went to experiments on what makes goldfish feel sexy.

Researchers discovered that when given sex steroids, male goldfish exhibited more social behavior and swam closer to their female counterparts, the Daily Signal reports.

    10. AI Toilets

The National Cancer Institute funded nearly $7 million to researchers at Stanford University to build an AI toilet, Real Clear Policy reports.

The toilet is equipped with cameras that scans the user’s waste and unique “analprint.” DOGE is not an official government agency and is expected to conclude its work by July 4, 2026. As of November 2024, the United States national debt is $35.97 trillion.

    Julie Kelly, Dec 09, 2024

“I was pleased to see (again) President Trump’s comments over the weekend related to pardons for J6ers. But Biden’s DOJ—under DC US Attorney Matthew Graves—and DC judges are still throwing people in jail. Last week, Judge Royce Lamberth, who desperately needs to retire, took the unusual step of sending a misdemeanant directly to jail instead of allowing him to report to custody in a few months, which is usually the case.

The judges and prosecutors are fuming because Trump plans to undo their life’s work for the past four years—human consequences be damned.”

  12. “Biden Statement Indicative of US Regime Change Operations in Syria

ANALYSIS: Biden statement in the aftermath of US strikes in Syria following the fall of Damascus indicative of US regime change operations.”

    Political Moonshine, Dec 09, 2024

EXCERPT: “A revealing statement made last evening by US President Joe Biden is highly indicative of US-based regime change operations associated with the fall of Damascus and the exile of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Moscow where Russian President authorized his asylum.

In the aftermath of the fall of Syria, which the analysis attributes to proxy forces for the US Intelligence Community/Department of Defense/NATO/State Department conglomerate, Joe Biden has subsequently and implicitly verified the position in a statement confirming what we already knew – that the conglomerate ignited flashpoints in the Russian periphery to continue the application of pressure on Russia’s national security and sovereignty.

Syria was the primary target for very clear reasons while Iran and its proxy forces operate in service to the conglomerate to do its bidding in structuring the Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape precisely for the insertion of the US to accomplish operational objectives for conquest, empire and hegemony….”

  13. “The Preemptive Pardon Paradox: Time for the Democrat Weaponizers to ‘Lawyer Up?’”

    Peter Navarro, Dec 09, 2024

(Polls) [You have to be a subscriber]

EXCERPT: “Team, Would love to see your comments on this poll and article as well! Peter

    The Preemptive Pardon Paradox

The Democrat’s preemptive pardon gambit is tacit admission of their partisan weaponization of America’s justice system. What should we the people do about this outrage?

Some guidance may be found in “strategic game theory.” Here, we have a “repeatable game” in which whenever one political party controls all three branches of our government, the temptation is to weaponize the justice system to interfere with elections and thereby hold onto power.

Before the rise of Donald Trump, both major parties largely resisted this temptation. Like nations armed with nuclear weapons, Democrats and Republicans adhered to an unwritten doctrine of mutual assured destruction to check their most destructive partisan impulses.

Both sides understood that weaponizing government institutions for political advantage would provoke retaliation. The punished party would eventually return to power and then exact its own retribution in an escalating cycle of political vengeance. This fragile balance kept overt weaponization in check, much like MAD discourages nuclear war.

With the coming of Donald Trump, however, Democrats threw all such restraint to the wind. Through subpoena after subpoena, impeachment after impeachment, FBI raid after FBI raid, and court case after court case, the Democrats have terrorized Donald Trump, his children Don, Jr. Eric, and Ivanka, his aide Walt Nauta, and many of his advisors.

Even today, President-elect Trump faces a possible prison term from one bogus case in New York, another Manhattan judge has stolen nearly a billion dollars from him in legal costs and fines, a whacked out amnesiac may get away with a big payout, and a DC judge is holding him hostage in a civil suit.

Meanwhile, both Steve Bannon and I went to prison, John Eastman and Jeff Clark lost their bar cards, America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani is now bankrupt, other Trump advisors like Dan Scavino, Stephen Miller and Mark Meadows have shelled out millions of dollars in legal fees, and numerous other former Trump staffers with weaker spines bent their knee and turned on President Trump.

Of course, none of these Trump loyalists who have been pummeled by the Democrats’ lawfare and weaponized injustice ever did anything more than try to defend American democracy. This defense of liberty stands in sharp contrast to the felonies, even treason, allegedly committed precisely by those for whom the possibility of preemptive pardons is being raised…..”

  14. Supposedly, a man has been taken into custody in Altoona, PA who resembles the culprit in the health insurance President’s killing. He had a weapon in his pocket at the McD’s that matched the gun used in the killing; he was also using a fake ID to check into a local hospice. Supposedly someone at the McD’s called in the tip.

  15. “This searing nonsense is actually a grilling myth that just won’t die, and the common misconception can be traced back to the German chemist, Justus von Liebig.

Back in 1847, his theory was that when you sear your meat, the brown “crust” that forms create a barrier that keeps juices in.  His idea spread uncontrollably right after the publication of that concept in his book “Researches on the Chemistry of Food.”

But, let’s be honest, this famous crust is of course not waterproof. Juices continue to get squeezed out during cooking. The sizzling that you hear throughout cooking is proof, as this is the meat’s juices seeping out and vaporizing.

According to the website GrillHunters.com, searing serves the very important purpose of building flavor and texture. A very hot skillet creates a golden, caramelized crust through a process called the Maillard reaction. Cooking above 250 degrees imparts that savory flavor and aroma that will leave you salivating.”

  16. “President Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) celebrated yet another LGBTQ+ holiday on Sunday, paying homage to “Pansexual and Panromantic Pride Day” in a post to X. Okay – two questions. What the fuck is a ‘panromantic’ and who comes up with these ridiculous fuckin’ words and phrases? Okay – here’s another thing to ponder. When the new administration comes in to office, do you think they’ll put up with this ridiculous fuckin’ nonsense? Be fun to watch…”

“Including the Dallas-based auction house’s fee, the unknown buyer will ultimately pay $32.5 million.  The slippers are one of four surviving pairs from the 1939 movie and were once stolen from a museum that housed them. Live bidding for the pair of ruby red heels started at $1.55 million, according to Heritage Auctions, and were initially estimated to go for $3 million or more.

The auction house said in a news release that the slippers passed that number “within seconds” and that no other pair of ruby slippers has gone for close to that amount. One pair sold in 2000 for $666,000, Heritage Auctions said. In 2012, Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio paid $2 million for another pair and donated them to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

THAT is how you know you have too much money. I wonder how many homeless and/or needy vets could have been helped with that much money. Jeez…”

  17. “If you’re somehow unfamiliar with this specific form of stress relief, a nap is a short period of sleep, typically taken during the day, to help with alertness or fatigue. Naps can have many benefits, including: Improved mood – Naps can help you feel less impulsive and better able to deal with frustration.

Improved memory – Naps can help you recall facts learned earlier in the day.

Increased alertness – Naps can help you pay attention during meetings or while driving.

Better creativity – Naps can help you learn new skills and be more creative.

Stress relief – Naps can help release stress and improve your immune health.

Heart health – Naps can help your body recover from pressure-filled situations.

Some tips for taking a nap include:

When to nap: Napping between noon and 4 PM is ideal for people who wake up early. Napping too late in the evening can make it harder to go to bed.

How long to nap: A 20-minute nap is usually enough to capture the lightest stages of sleep, which are restorative but easy to wake up from. A 90-minute nap can be more restorative and may be helpful for people who need more sleep.

Set an alarm: Studies suggest setting an alarm so you wake up in time for the next thing in your day if you’re that deep a sleeper. Personally, I think setting an alarm makes the whole idea a little stupid.

Shit – I can nod out in my truck at Home Depot. I, however, am a trained professional. Do not attempt this on your own, but if you do, locking the doors is a good idea. Putting a note on the window that says ‘I am not having a medical emergency’ is an even better idea. Juss’ sayin’…”

  18. “OPINION: Women in Combat Arms? A Female Veteran Has Some Thoughts.”

By Ward Clark | 1:09 PM on December 09, 2024

EXCERPT: “The nomination of a U.S. Army combat veteran, Pete Hegseth, to serve as President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of Defense has stirred up a lot of comment. Aside from the usual slings and arrows from outrageous legacy media talking heads that we can expect any Trump nominee to suffer, Mr. Hegseth also has one stated opinion that is causing some liberal heads to explode—that is, his opposition to women in our armed forces serving in combat arms roles.

President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, has reignited a debate that many thought had been long settled: Should women be allowed to serve their country by fighting on the front lines?

The former Fox News commentator has made it clear, in his own book and in interviews, that he believes men and women should not serve together in combat units. If Hegseth is confirmed by the Senate, he could try to end the Pentagon’s nearly decade-old practice of making all combat jobs open to women.

“I’m straight up just saying we should not have women in combat roles. It hasn’t made us more effective. Hasn’t made us more lethal. Has made fighting more complicated,” he said in a podcast hosted by Shawn Ryan on Nov. 7. Women have a place in the military, he said, just not in special operations, artillery, infantry and armor units.

I happen to think Pete Hegseth is right, and I could give you many reasons. I am, however, a man, and while that shouldn’t make a difference, it does in some quarters; so, instead, I thought I would leverage the opinion of a woman who has served in a combat zone.

The woman I refer to served in the Army Reserve/National Guard for eight years and deployed for Operation Desert Storm, where, as a First Lieutenant, she set up and ran a novel medical facility on the airhead at King Khalid Military City; for this, she was awarded the Bronze Star.

She was also, somehow, according to the VA, exposed to a low dose of a nerve agent which causes chronic pain in her left leg and hip, along with balance issues; for this, she has been on disability for over 20 years. They told her that she would be in a wheelchair by the time our youngest went to kindergarten; she said, “No, I won’t,” and she is still walking, and that kid is now 28 years old.

She agrees with Pete Hegseth and is adamantly against women serving in combat-arms roles. I know this because I happen to have been married to this woman for 32 years….”

  19. TownHall: “The man suspected of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week has been detained and identified as Luigi Mangione, a resident of Maryland. He’s also a former student at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mangione was arrested by police at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, today. A worker at the fast food establishment thought Mangione looked like the man in the pictures circulated by authorities. There was an unmasked image reportedly of Mr. Mangione when he was flirting with the hostel desk clerk.

Upon questioning, police found the suppressed firearm, four fake IDs, and a manifesto. The evidence is there, now law enforcement is trying to piece it together. New York City Police detectives were dispatched to the scene earlier today. The manifesto is a few pages long, where Mangione says he’s self-funded and acted alone. It was a diatribe against the healthcare system, adding what he did need to be done.

“These parasites had it coming,” he allegedly wrote (via CNN):

A multi-page, handwritten document was recovered from the person of interest arrested in the UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Tuesday.

“We don’t think there’s any specific threats to other people mentioned in that document, but it does seem that he has some ill will towards corporate America,” Kenny said.

The document is currently in the possession of the Altoona Police Department, he noted.

Police recovered an enormous amount of evidence in the investigation, which is ongoing, Kenny said.

    […]

Among the lines in the two-page document found on “strong person of interest” Luigi Mangione are the following two quotes: “These parasites had it coming” and “I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done,” a police official who has seen the document told CNN.

In the note, Mangione says he acted alone and that he was self-funded.

The document railed against the health care industry and suggested violence is the answer, according to the official.”
