  1. Good morning, Pat and Filly!

Back home until Thu afternoon. Have to be back by Friday at 5 for Sally Q evening duties – dinner and getting her ready for ‘bed’ – she now sleeps in her Permobil C300 4 function power wheelchairs so she can get a drink of water during the night or check her email, etc.

Right now, it’s 53º with a high of 82º expected. No rain in sight on the forecast through next Sunday – a week without rain + the slightest breeze could start a forest fire in FL!

My goals this week – to see about my ‘bad foot’ – been broken and sprained several times and it’s an ugly thing with broken veins and varicosities at the ankle, a raised discolored spot at the joints at the top of the foot. Loading and unloading stuff 4 times a week going and coming from Sally’s adds weight, wear and tear on my old feet. Plus I’ve got about 20 pounds too much of my own weight that adds to the load bearing. My belly is not a pretty sight either. I’ve let myself go and indulged my sweet tooth/snack cravings too much. Now with the sore foot – I can’t walk or do my Leslie Sansone DVDs to work off the weight.

On top of the arthritis inflammation, I’ve got old folks age related neuropathy – foot numbness – which can be caused by poor diet, over indulging in the wrong foods, too much weight, not drinking enough water, all the bad things I do.

At the last appointment – the PA at the Ortho said I’ve got arthritis in those joints. I’ve been researching and reading to see what can be done besides surgery – supplements, orthotic, etc.

Some of the same supplements that help the skin cancer help relieve arthritis. I just need to reform, refocus, redirect my efforts and straighten up and fly right as Mama used to say.

    Y’all have a good day – !

    1. Morning GA!
your foot sounds painful!! 30 some years ago i broke my ankle–had to have screws in it–but I’ve found because of the cast and the way the screws were placed, my foot is not slightly larger than the other. finding the right shoes is important or my feet hurt. I mostly wear sneakers–good support for them–and rarely go barefoot–but that’s a me thing…lol
hubby and I do the walk at home tapes twice a week. normally we only walk a mile (hubby has asthma) but we do the ones with the interval training and the ones with the exercise band.
how often to you get to just elevate your feet??

    2. Oh, my, GA – that sounds painful! I have arthritis in my hands and hot wax treatments helped a lot! I also keep some naproxen on hand just in case but I rarely need it, especially since I’m not doing nearly as much gardening or yard work these days. I hope you are able to find something that will help.

        1. This one is for hands or feet, using paraffin wax. I should send mine to GA – my Mom had it for a while for her hands but she never even tried it and I got it back from her. I don’t need it any more and I think it is big enough for a foot….and I’ve got at least 10 blocks of paraffin wax…..

    3. Pat’s question brought this to mind – I have a hot paraffin wax bath that I think you could use for your feet…..I’ve also got at least 10 blocks of wax to go with it. I don’t need it any more and I’d be happy to send it to you to try it out. It helped my hands the few times I used it…..the wax is really hot and you have to dip your hand/foot a little bit at a time, until you get accustomed to the heat. Eventually, you can put your whole hand/foot completely coated with the wax. Once it cools off, you just peel it off. You can find them at WM or probably Target, pharmacies, etc. I have the one on the right in this pic:

    1. Morning, Pat! We hit 86 yesterday on my patio!!! I had the doors open for most of the day. The furnace was working yesterday but I dropped the thermostat to 70 since it was so nice outside. It was still 71 inside when I got up this morning, 60 outside – turned the temp up and it started up normally. Hopefully, the part will arrive today and that will take care of it….but, TBH, I have my doubts…..we’ll see. Wheezer was waiting as normal, ate his tuna and departed.

Forecast here has a 15% possibility of some rain, cloudy and windy but I’m betting we won’t get any moisture. High of 78 today/tomorrow but then it drops into the 60’s.

    Robert Sterling:

Jokes aside, this is one of the most meaningful gestures I’ve ever seen from a political leader. Donald Trump is showing Americans through his actions—not just telling them with words—that every worker is important, that every job matters, and that there’s dignity in all labor, from serving fries to selling cars to structuring balance sheets.

Trump isn’t pretending to be something he isn’t—he didn’t “grow up in a middle-class family”; he’s a guy who owns hotels, golf courses, and a Boeing 757 with gold-plated toilet handles—but he’s also not pandering or putting on an act. He’s just authentically being who he always is and who he always will be, for better or for worse: The Donald; the guy who develops the same instant rapport and bonhomie with titans of industry and fast-food workers alike; the only president of our lifetime who knows that America doesn’t win unless ALL Americans win, whether they’re fry cooks, executives, shareholders, or anything in between.

You can’t fake something like this. It’s either who you are, or it’s something you’ll never be able to pull off. Trump—somehow—has it. And, because of that, this is the guy I trust to fight for my community and for my businesses.

More importantly, though, this is the guy I trust to fight for the people making $14/hour down the street. They deserve it.

Florida is the 3rd most populated state in the USA and they’ll have their votes counted and the results on election night.

  4. OK…..I gotta vent. I’m watching an episode of Long Lost Family. Having been adopted myself and at an age where I could remember my early years, as well as the family connections, I’ve often wondered how people on these shows felt who knew next to nothing about their history and thought about how I would feel in that situation. IMO, there are just some instances when that urge should be squelched.

One example: a woman gave up her son for adoption when he was an infant and it wasn’t until she was well into her late 70’s and dying (a few months to live) that she searched him out. No, I’m sorry – that is nothing short of cruel.

  5. Just The News: “House Judiciary Jim Jordan on Monday released the transcript of closed door testimony from Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor in Fani Willis’ Fulton County District Attorney’s office who managed the Donald Trump election interference case before coming under scrutiny for an alleged improper financial relationship with Willis.

Last week Willis attempted unsuccessfully to block Wade from testifying to the committee on the grounds that it could “improperly divulge confidential information” about her investigation of the former president.

A GOP-led U.S. House panel subpoenaed Wade as part of an investigation into his alleged romantic and financial relationship with Willis. Last year, Willis indicted Donald Trump in Georgia over his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in the state.

The transcript of Wade’s deposition last Tuesday was released by Jordan’s committee a week after the interview.

Our Take: This whole thing just keeps getting more surreal. President Trump goes to work at Mc-Donald’s, and we get yet another iconic image that will help define the spectacular nature of this absurd moment in time.

We also get one of the greatest NFL wide receivers of all time, who only recently retired, speaking at a Trump rally.

Drafted in 2010, Antonio Brown (AB) had one of the most prolific NFL careers ever. The “prime” of his career was from 2014-2018, when he broke basically every record on the books with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it was only cut short due to what appeared to be a mental health situation. In a matter of weeks during the 2019 offseason, AB went from being the highest-paid and most highly coveted wide receiver in the League (a contract worth tens of millions of dollars) to unemployed and unlikely to even play for any team in the 2019 season, after being traded to the Oakland Raiders and a series of incidents with their management resulted in his termination.

But everybody loves a good comeback story, and AB won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Remember Tom Brady? The only professional athlete from a “mainstream” sport that endorsed Donald Trump up until recently? And he did that during the campaign cycle in 2016.

But what really makes this AB storyline surreal is this little nugget that I discovered as I was writing this take. He is the current President of Donda Sports, which is Kanye West’s sports fashion brand. Meaning AB works for Kanye West.

Looks like Yevolution is not only back on the menu, but merging with the Trumpamania storyline. — GhostofBasedPatrickHenry

  7. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-10-18/trump-considers-no-taxes-for-military-police-and-firefighters

Donald Trump said he’d consider exempting police officers, firefighters, active duty military and veterans from paying taxes, the Republican nominee’s latest campaign trail idea to deliver tax breaks to key groups of supporters.

“It’s something I would think about,” Trump said in response to a question about excluding first responders and military members from tax bills on an online show Maintaining with Tyrus that aired Friday.

“You’re like my tax person there, but yeah. I mean something has to be done,” he said. “It’s almost an incentive to where you can get people interested.”

The idea to exempt military members and first responders from taxation is the latest in a long list of tax proposals the former president has talked about while campaigning against Democrat Kamala Harris. He’s pledged to eliminate taxes on tipped wages, overtime pay and Social Security benefits. Trump didn’t give any more details about the service member tax exclusion. All of those ideas would require congressional approval in order to become law.

The no-taxes-on-military-and-first-responders idea could be among the largest new tax cuts he’s discussed to date, exempting more than 20 million people from federal tax payments. There are about 18 million living veterans in the US, roughly 1.3 million active duty troops, approximately 1 million police offers in the US and more than 300,000 professional firefighters, according to several estimates.

The US does offer some broad tax exemption to military members, but that is largely limited to people who are serving in active combat zones. — Bloomberg

  8. Just The News: “Members of the “Central Park Five” have sued Trump over his comments during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, claiming he knowingly misrepresented the circumstances of their case.

The men were all convicted in connection with a 1989 rape and assault, though their convictions were vacated in 2002. Trump stated during the debate that the group had pleaded guilty and that they had killed someone. All five pleaded not guilty and no one was killed in the incident.

“Plaintiffs never pled guilty to the Central Park assaults. Plaintiffs all pled not guilty and maintained their innocence throughout their trial and incarceration, as well as after they were released from prison,” their attorneys wrote, CNN reported. “None of the victims of the Central Park assaults were killed.”

The suit marks the latest defamation case against Trump and follows writer E. Jean Carroll’s multiple suits stemming from his denials of her claims he raped her in the 1990s.”

  9. OK, furnace repair completed. He replaced the gas valve and said it isn’t making that sound he was hearing…..that I couldn’t hear…..so it should be good to go. I did find out that it is just over 23 years old so I need to start planning for that. 20-25 years is the average lifespan.

    1. OK, then – a general search tells me it would cost from $4900-6500 to replace my current furnace. Not quite as bad as I expected but bad enough. The repair guy said the gas company would give me a coupon for some kind of discount since I’m on the maintenance plan but I have no idea how much.

LAWFARE: Big Fani Willis and her very special prosecutor Nathan Wade ALWAYS denied collusion with the Biden-Harris regime despite evidence that they both held multiple lengthy meetings with White House officials and even Kamala Harris. Now we learn that Nathan Wade admitted to multiple meetings with White House officials after being shown his own invoices that detailed the date, time, and length of multiple meetings. If there was any doubt that the Georgia RICO case against Trump and other Republicans was a blatant case of lawfare they disappeared today.
