What Shall We Bake Today?

Continuing with “apple month”, today’s offering is a simple Apple Bread!

Apple Bread

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 large eggs, room temperature

1 cup canola oil

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups chopped peeled apples (about 2 medium)

1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°. Line 2 greased 8×4-in. loaf pans with parchment; grease paper.

Whisk together first 6 ingredients. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, oil and vanilla; add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened (batter will be thick). Fold in apples and walnuts.

Transfer to prepared pans. Bake until a toothpick inserted in each center comes out clean, 50-55 minutes. Cool in pans 10 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool.

Apple Bread Variations

Add dried fruits: Ingredients like regular or golden raisins, dried apricots, or dried dates would be wonderful additions to any apple bread recipes. Just know, you may want to cut back on the sugar to compensate for the extra sweetness.

Use a different kind of sugar: Different types of sugar provide distinct flavors and textures that you may enjoy. For example, you can substitute brown sugar for the granulated cane sugar, using a 1-to-1 ratio.

ENJOY!

    1. Verizon is the only cell service that works at the Village – but I bet Starlink would be better.

If he puts Verizon out of business, Elon Musk would need to set up stores, sell and service cell phones if he puts Verizon out of business. He could hire the ex-Verizon techs, I guess…

So far not a sound from the Biden/Harris Administration offering Federal support for Floridians dealing with the Helene disaster. This has been a storm like none other for Florida. We are living without a functioning Presidency. But we knew that. Just astonishing that it’s so blatant. How hard would it be to just issue a statement?

“CNN fact-checks this answer from Harris about manufacturing jobs “Harris’ claim is false. Trump presided over a gain of 414,000 US manufacturing jobs, not a loss of “at least 200,000,” before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.”

    BREAKING:
Today, I accepted Rep. Ami Bera’s invitation to brief him and the House Intelligence Committee

on where and how I learned about the 5 assassination teams in the U.S. targeting President Trump.

Immediately after I broke the news that five hit teams, including Iranians, were targeting Trump, the Biden-Harris admin was forced to brief the Trump campaign about one of those threats. So it’s real.

Nevertheless, Democrat lies persist, and Rep. Bera, who sits on the Intel Committee, called my stating the facts “dangerous.”

I think it’s more “dangerous” that House Intel members don’t know or don’t care what intel is out there about assassins targeting Trump.

Comrade Kamala Harris just put up an Ad saying that I.V.F. was banned in certain areas because of me.

    That is another LIE,
just like her working at McDonald’s was a LIE!

I have been totally supportive of I.V.F., right from the beginning,

  7. Huh…there have been 2 other hurricanes named “Helene!”

    EXCERPT: “1958: Hurricane Helene, a would-be Category 4

The first signs of the 1958 Hurricane Helene were spotted as a tropical storm on Sept. 23, 1958. At that time, it was about 300 miles northeast of the Dominican Republic. After quickly growing into a hurricane, it moved towards the Carolinas.

At its peak, off the coast of South Carolina, it had maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. It dropped as much as 8 inches of rain in some areas in North Carolina. It never made landfall, instead coming within 10 miles of Cape Fear, North Carolina before going back to the sea.

Evacuations were ordered for the coastal islands in North Carolina preventing any deaths from happening in the region, but one severe injury was reported from the storm. The storm did cause power outages, and a weather station in Wilmington reported wind gusts of 135 mph.

At the time, the modern Saffir-Simpson scale was not in use to measure the strength of hurricanes, but had it been used it would have been classified as a Category 4, according to the National Weather Service.”

    ————

2006: Another hurricane with no landfall, but still a Category 3

The 2006 version was a slightly irrelevant hurricane, never making landfall in the North American mainland and ending up in the North Atlantic. It was the eighth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, according to NASA.

After being identified as a tropical storm in the North Atlantic, it developed into a Category 3 storm, much like the current hurricane before traveling further north. The 2006 storm has winds as high as 70 mph, according to the Tropical Storm Information Center.”

      1. I have no idea! I know nothing about baseball. OK, then – found this:

“When Jim Bintliff first heard that MLB wanted to standardize instructions for applying mud to its baseballs, two ideas came to mind.

The first was a little sad: He’s always appreciated that some clubhouse attendants have their own styles when it comes to preparing a baseball. These new instructions, Bintliff figured, would do away with those idiosyncrasies for good.

Because a brand-new baseball has a shiny, factory gloss that can make it difficult to grip, it needs to be rubbed down before it can be used in a game, and for decades, MLB’s rules have dictated that process involve just one substance—mud.

Now, in the interest of consistency, teams have been instructed to make sure their clubbies follow just one set of instructions for the process, too. Scoop two fingertips’ worth of mud. Paint it across the entire surface of the baseball. Rub the ball in between both hands for no more than 40 seconds. The memo MLB sent to clubs this week spells out all these steps and more….”

  9. GOOD MORNING, Pat and Filly!

Sally Q and I had apple raisin cinnamon bread pudding for breakfast this morning!

It was quite a night as the storm, the 3rd hurricane in 2 years, passed right over the Village.

No damage to my house, our daughter’s home or their Dad’s house at the Village.

Wind gusts got up to 99 mph at one point, thank’s to Arkcirc’s link he found for exact data at the Village – https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=2205W&hours=72

We don’t have power, but cell phones and internet are working. Yay!

It doesn’t look as bad as last year’s hurricane Idalia, but the trees have been ‘pruned’ twice. 3 hurricanes in a row over the Village – someone must have a storm magnet!

A large grove of longleaf pines near the nursing home was hit the worst. About 10-12 mature longleaf pines were broken off and brought down by the wind.

No roof damage to the main buildings and church – but they all got new roofs this year after Idalia.

No lives lost and they served a hot breakfast this morning…though it was mostly gone when I finally got to the cafeteria, having taken Sally’s Dad to check on his house and get his golf cart.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your concern, prayers, encouragement, advice and counsel.

      1. PS – FORGOT to tell y’all about this – !!!

Just before the storm passed by the VillagE – the eye just broke up – into many pieces. As it passed over, we never got a typical strong wind eye wall, then an eye, or anything like that.

The wind slowed down a bit – and never increased to its former strength again.

I believe that was a true mercy, blessing and answer to prayer!

        Thank you!

  10. Sorry Pat, but I’ve got another gorgeous day – up to 83, bright and sunny, w/ only the slightest breeze and low humidity. THIS is the kind of weather I could take forever! OK, with just a little more rain since we’re back in a drought stage, close to a critical drought area just to the west. But other than that – it doesn’t get much better!

FBI agent Nicholas Williams admits stealing silver during raid on Jan. 6 defendant Alexander Fan-

An FBI agent has pleaded guilty to stealing from targets during raids and arrests, including from a man who was part of the mob that invaded the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Nicholas Anthony Williams, who worked out of the FBI’s Houston office but is no longer with the bureau, admitted Monday to four thefts while serving search warrants.

One of those was a July 13, 2023, raid on the home of Alexander Fan, a member of Asians for Trump who breached the Capitol as part of the protest against the Electoral College count that confirmed President Biden’s win.

Williams made off with $2,729 in cash and some silver bars, which he later tried to sell.

He also stole $1,200 during a raid on another residence on Dec. 16, 2020; got $4,145 from a raid on March 15, 2022; and pocketed $1,574 from a raid on Jan. 12, 2023. The theft from Fan is the last one he admitted to and, according to court documents, appears to have led to the agent’s downfall.

EXCERPT: “As of this writing, there is no information as to whether Nasrallah was at the site or whether he was injured or killed in the attack. Cutting the head of this particular snake isn’t the worst goal Israel and the IDF could have, although he would no doubt be replaced by whoever Hezbollah and their masters in Tehran have waiting in the wings. However, operations like this, while tactically and strategically important, also have a psychological element to them; whoever would step up to replace Nasrallah now would know that the gloves are off, and the IDF will be looking to revoke the new leader’s birth certificate at the earliest opportunity.”
