Weird Fruits: Cherimoya

I found this article on inthekitchenwithmatt.com!

Where does the Cherimoya come from and where does it grow?

The cherimoya (Annona cherimola) also spelled, chirimoya, chirimuya also goes by the name custard apple although the custard apple is a different fruit belonging to the same family (Annona reticulata.) It is closely related to the sweetsop and soursop fruits which all belong to the family Annonaceae.

It is native to Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, and Bolivia. However, it is cultivated all around the world in Central America, South America, Southern California, Florida, Hawaii, South Asia, Australia, North Africa, Portugal, Southern Spain, in the Mediterranean, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, India, Thailand, to name several of them. There are other places and countries that grow it as well. Cherimoya trees thrive in the tropics at higher elevations, between 4000 and 8000 feet but do not like frost and snow. It is believed that it originated first in Central and South America, then it spread to other countries. As explorers returned back to their homelands with this amazing fruit.

It doesn’t grow very well in the Phoenix desert where I live, after a few years of struggling in a pot, my sapling died on me. The Atemoya, which is a hybrid between the Cherimoya and the sugar apple is a little better suited to growing where I live.

What are the nutritional benefits of the Cherimoya?

The cherimoya is loaded with nutritional benefits. Below are a few of them:

Rich in vitamin C

High in fiber

Moderate amount of lutein

May reduce inflammation

Support the immune system

Moderate amounts of potassium and magnesium

How to eat the Cherimoya?

The cherimoya is a fairly good-sized fruit that is green with hints of brown and black. The shape is very similar to a heart. The outside skin is somewhat smooth and has a scaly look to it. It kind of reminds me of a dragon’s egg.

How do you know when it is ripe?

You will know when it is ripe when you gently squeeze it with your palms it should give to the pressure, similar to avocado and pear. There should not be too much black or brown coloring on the skin. They are normally picked before being fully ripe so they can last longer before they are sold. Most likely when you buy it at the supermarket you will want to let it sit at room temperature for a few days to soften up and ripen more. To eat it, just cut it in half with a knife.

Then you will seed smooth black or dark seeds. Use a knife or spoon and scoop those out. They are not edible, do not eat them. They may be poisonous. The skin is not edible either. Inside you will see a beautiful white custard-looking flesh. It should be soft, if it is too hard the fruit is not ripe yet. Cover it with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for a few more days to soften more. You can cut it into chunks and eat it that way. Or a lot of people will just dig the flesh out with a spoon and eat it. The Cherimoya or custard apple is commonly eaten fresh/raw or put in smoothies, ice cream, and yogurt.

What does Cherimoya or Custard Apple taste like?

When ripe the flesh will be soft and custard-like. The texture will be similar to custard as well with a little bit of stringiness to it. To me, the texture is extremely pleasant. Taste is very subjective, but it has been described by others as tasting like a mix between a pineapple, banana, strawberry, papaya, and peach. I am inclined to agree with them. The Cherimoya tastes very similar to that to me. And since those are some of my favorite fruits, that puts this fruit in my top favorite fruits category right up there with the mangosteen. The strawberry has long since been my favorite fruit of all time, but the mangosteen, pineapple, mango, are a very close second place.

    1. Morning Filly!
      you’re up early!!!
weekend was exhausting. Mom’s memory is going–she’s 85–so we hear the same stories 5 or 6 times during the weekend. but she was in the mood to clean house, so I was moving boxes, throwing out bags of trash while hubby was tending to her to-do list.
it’s always good to visit though

      1. I got a pleasant surprise yesterday – a text from Piper asking if she can come up for a few hours on Oct. 6 – IDK why that date but, of course, I replied “Absolutely!” I also added that it was best if it was just the two of us…..I’m not going to say it unless she asks me point-blank why. I will also try to be somewhat diplomatic when I explain that her Dad is no longer allowed in my house.

          1. Sis just sent me a pic from FB yesterday – Piper and apparently her BF for homecoming. Kind of crazy hair on the BF, skinny, bespectacled; she was dressed appropriately, if not particularly festive, w/long black hair.

our granddaughter went to homecoming this past weekend too. we got to see pictures of her in her dress. gees…it was very pretty but dang! my mother would never let me out like that at 15!
lace back that crisscrossed and a low front. low enough that our daughter said she wore dress “tape” to keep it in place.
if i needed to wear tape to keep it closed? my mom would have sewn it shut!

              1. Thankfully, she wasn’t wearing anything at all revealing – it was a more casual outfit: denim jacket over a mid-thigh length green knit dress, white strappy sandals.

This is almost unbelievable. Wall Street private equity firms are now buying up American mobile home parks and skyrocketing rents up to 60% on people

  4. Hmmm…and people wonder why I want nothing to do with churches!!!

EXCERPTS: “Mark Fitzpatrick is no stranger to controversy, after successfully fighting the leftist agenda machine when he hosted Heterosexual Awesomeness Month at his Idaho bar, Old State Saloon, this past June. However, his problems started months before he hosted the month-long event at his bar. Mark’s church was not happy about what he was doing at his bar, and they “canceled” him over it. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Fitzpatrick and he shared his story with me.

Fitzpatrick is a recent conservative Californian transplant to Eagle, Idaho. He is a strong and passionate conservative and Christian and is very active in his church, which he helped establish when he and his wife moved their family to Eagle approximately six years ago from Southern California. Mark quickly saw success in private real estate and other business ventures. One of those ventures was his acquisition of an established bar in downtown Eagle, which is a small suburb located approximately 23 miles northwest of Boise. The bar, then called “The Gathering Place,” was built in 1908, and after talking with the owner, Mark purchased the bar and opened it in February of 2023, renaming it “Old State Saloon.”

Originally intended to support his wedding venue business with a liquor license, Fitzpatrick quickly saw more potential in the bar and adapted it to serve as a hub where people could come and talk about politics, hot topic issues, current events, and more. He began hosting a weekly event dubbed “Braveritas,” which is a combination of the words brave and veritas (veritas being Latin for truth), now called “Old State Salooncast,” where guests were invited to present different topics, some of which were controversial, but nothing was off limits. Religion, specifically Christianity, was also discussed, and Mark used these discussions to spread the Christian message.

    ————

In April, just a few months before the June Heterosexual Awesomeness festivities, three of Fitzpatrick’s church’s pastors had emailed Mark, stating that they “were concerned about these events.” They went on to say that if he continued to host these events, they would have to “part ways” with him. Fitzpatrick noted that the pastors had also CC’d his wife in the email saying in part that she needed to be aware of these implications and the effects it could have on her and the family. Fitzpatrick viewed the email, not only as questionable, but as a threat because the pastors did not elaborate as to the exact violation of the Bible. All they could tell him was that his events were divisive and dangerous but could not definitively point to specific teachings of Christianity that Mark violated; rather it was a personal preference of the pastors.

    ————

Mark laments the fact that as a strong and passionate Christian, the pastors had decided that even holding strong to the Christian faith and loyalty to Jesus Christ, was not good enough for them. Telling the pastors that he agreed with most of everything they said about the faith, but the pastors felt that was not good enough. After the meeting, Mark and his family went to church as they normally would have but were told to leave and that he was no longer welcome at the church or on the property. The following week, the pastors made a public announcement at both services that Mark was an “unrepentant sinners” and that they should not associate with him…..”

Constituent update from Harriet Hageman (R-WY):

I Voted to Secure our Federal Elections from Illegal Voters This past week, the House voted on a continuing resolution (CR) to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month, keeping the government open through March 28th and pairing that extension of funding with the SAVE Act, an election integrity measure to ensure only American citizens vote in our elections. While I voted yes, the bill unfortunately failed, and the usual powers that be are rewriting a short-term CR through December with a number of unknown spending increase additions known as “anomalies.”

I have been as clear with House leadership as I have been with you; I will not vote for a CR unless the SAVE Act is included. CRs are bad fiscal policy, excluding Congress from implementing much needed spending reform. This last CR was only made palatable when it included a strategic chance to secure our elections. A short-term CR into December runs the risk of a full-year omnibus, which is even more dangerous than a CR, and undermines the options for the incoming majority that the People elected. Adding new spending in the form of anomalies also run afoul of the very purpose of a CR, which is to continue the previous year’s spending. No matter what the version is, without the SAVE Act, I will oppose any “clean” CR and keep you informed as this process plays out.

      More from Hageman

House Passes Bill to Overturn EV Mandates
On Friday, I voted in favor of H.J.Res.136, a Congressional Review Act resolution of which I am an original cosponsor, which would nullify the Biden-Harris Environmental Protection Agency’s tailpipe emissions rule that would require approximately two-thirds of all consumer vehicles to be zero emission by 2032. The rule effectively aims to eliminate consumer choice by mandating the manufacturing and sale of electric vehicles and forcing gas powered vehicles out of the U.S. market.

This rule is yet another example of an out-of-control bureaucracy that seeks to implement a radical environmental agenda which millions of Americans do not support and cannot afford. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous economic policies, countless Americans are forced to pay astronomical prices to afford groceries and fill up their cars with fuel. This rule will only serve to bankrupt America and force our country into energy poverty. I am proud to say that the resolution passed the House of Representatives, and it is my hope that the Senate quickly considers and passes this necessary legislation.

  6. Good mornin’ Y’all!

Never even seen, much less tasted a Cherimoya! Guess nobody has tried to grow them in FL.

Meanwhile in FL, the city has sent us a sand bag location notification email – a sure sign a hurricane or tropical storm is heading this way.

Looks like two possibilities and directions of attack toward FL – typical for this time of year – nothing out of the ordinary or suspicious.

  7. Just The News: “Ryan Routh, the suspect accused of attempting to assassinate former President Trump in Florida, apparently wrote a note months prior to the incident indicating he intended to kill Trump, according to a court filing released on Monday.

    Filing.pdf

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” said the handwritten letter, which federal prosecutors revealed in a filing in support of the pretrial detention of Routh on Monday.

According to the filing, law enforcement was contacted on September 18, 2024 by a civilian witness who stated that Routh had “dropped off a box at his residence several months prior” and after learning of the September 15 assassination attempt, the witness decided to open the box.

“The witness stated the box contained ammunition, a metal pipe, miscellaneous building materials, tools, four phones, and various letters,” read the filing. The handwritten letter about assassinating Trump, addressed to “The World,” was apparently found inside the box. In the letter, Routh said Trump is “unfit to be anything, much less a U.S. president.”

The filing shows the first page of what it appears to be a longer letter.”

This sounds sketchy as hell. Routh dropped off a box to a “civilian witness” MONTHS before the assassination attempt and this individual didn’t open it until after the near-shooting? Once again, Donald Trump very lucky to be alive. Wow

      Clandestine, Sep 23, 2024

“Biden’s DOJ just released this letter written by the failed Trump assassin, Ryan Routh, in which he offers $150,000 to anyone who “finishes the job.”

So the Democrats have a bounty out on Trump’s head, and Biden’s DOJ are loudly advertising it to the public. These are essentially marching orders to the MSM-brainwashed sheep. The Dems are hoping more blue-haired, Ukraine-loving, Trump-hating lunatics, try to kill Trump. They aren’t even hiding it anymore.

If the shoe were on the other foot, and Trump supporter did this, the world would stop. There would be wall-to-wall coverage, town halls, burning cities, collegiate encampments, mass protests, riots, civil uprisings, sweeping censorship against all Trump supporters, etc. The Dems would be losing their minds and foaming at the mouth.

There will be no coexistence. This is war.”

  9. My internet rep was just here (I’d guess in his late 30’s, maybe) and moved my antenna – my weeping willow tree was blocking it some – it is moving a little faster now. I’ll have to wait and see if the twice-a-day outage continues. I did ask him about my theory that a lot of the problems we are having posting Tweets are across the entire web and he said that is a definite possibility.

It always makes me chuckle when I talk to these younger tech guys. They think they know it all until I start talking about the original desktops with the 8″ floppy disks & mainframes; when I mentioned my use of the first portable computer ever produced, he said, “Oh, yeah! I learned about that in school!” ROFL

Level Four Threat to no travel to Haiti…Would that be because they are violent?

“Border Czar Kamala Harris Mocked Trump For Warning About “Pet eating” Haitians She Delivered To America—Biden-Harris State Dept Just Issued LEVEL 4 WARNING to US Citizens—Do NOT Travel to Haiti!”
    Excerpts:

In addition to the millions of immigrants from nations with high rates of crime, Kamala Harris has allowed millions of unvetted criminals from some of the world’s most notorious international gangs and violent drug cartels, many of whom were in prisons, to sneak across our border. Many of the immigrants from dangerous countries have been flown to America and deposited by our United States government into big cities, small towns, and, of course, your neighborhoods.

On June 28, 2024, the failed border czar and her boss gave special protection to citizens from the violent nation of Haiti by way of temporary protected status for Haitian citizens who arrived in America on or before June 3, 2024. The order shielded over 306K Haitian immigrants from being deported back to their homeland because of the extreme gang violence.

    Political Moonshine, Sep 23, 2024

EXCERPT: “It’s been binary for some time, now. Anyone thinking that we haven’t entered the KILL or BE KILLED phase of operations is misinformed and living in a false reality created by the Intelligence Community’s perception management operations more commonly known as “psyops.” Beginning in January 2009, the Obama Administration overlaid the U.S. Government Counterinsurgency Guide 2009-2017 domestically to begin what Obama promised, which was to “fundamentally transform” the United States of America.

Also under Obama came the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act, which authorized for the first time the legal lying [propaganda] to the American people by the Intelligence Community. For anyone still living under a rock, Obama’s transformation requires reorganizing the Republic under the CCP’s brand of Marxism as the mechanism to enforce Globalism, which manifests as One World Government.

The Godfather himself, George H.W. Bush, told us so himself in 1990; paying particular attention to the reasons he cited that are of the IC’s own creation via the Hegelian Dialectic or in other words, perception management operations:

Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective — a new world order — can emerge: A new era — freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice and more secure in the quest for peace. An era in which the nations of the world, east and west, north and south, can prosper and live in harmony.

    -George H.W. Bush / 10 Sept 1990 / Washington Post

“A New World Order” is One World Government and the people in that backdrop are the Globalists and the oligarchs who fund them. The driving force behind it situates the Intelligence Community at the tip of the spear of operations.

Who is the mouthpiece for the IC? WaPo.

What was the date of the GHWB publication? 10 Sep, the eve of 11 Sep or in other words, 9/11.

9/11 was the first big piece of timber to be felled and the geopolitical landscape was fundamentally shifted into what we have today, which is authoritarian and tyrannical rule by fear, chaos and terror.

What was borne out of 9/11 but in reality, was waiting around in advance as already written?

    The Patriot Act…..”

  12. Just The News: “Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe on Monday ordered that alleged would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh be held without bail as he faces trial.

Routh was arrested in mid-September in connection with an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident saw a Secret Service agent engage with an armed suspect after noticing the barrel of an AK-47 protruding from the bushes where he was hiding. Trump was golfing at his Palm Beach, Fla., course at the time and was roughly 400-500 yards away.

The order to keep Routh detained followed a Monday hearing in U.S. District Court during which prosecutors confirmed they planned to bring additional charges against Routh, CNBC Reported.

Routh currently faces federal gun charges for allegedly possessing a firearm while a felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Also on Monday, prosecutors unveiled a note Routh wrote months ahead of the alleged assassination attempt in September.

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you,” the letter read. “I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.”

  13. Just The News: “Former President Donald Trump on Monday issued a scathing statement against the FBI and Department of Justice, accusing them of “mishandling and downplaying” the second assassination attempt against him.

Trump became the subject of an apparent assassination attempt in mid-September while golfing at his Palm Beach course. During that incident, the Secret Service engaged with an armed suspect after an agent noticed the barrel of an AK-47 protruding from the bushes where he was hiding. The suspect fled and authorities subsequently arrested Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, in connection with the incident. Routh currently faces gun charges for possessing a firearm while a felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

“The Kamala Harris/Joe Biden Department of Justice and FBI are mishandling and downplaying the second assassination attempt on my life since July,” Trump said. “The charges brought against the maniac assassin are a slap on the wrist. It’s no wonder, since the DOJ and FBI have been coming after me nonstop with Weaponized Lawfare since I announced my first Historic Campaign for the Presidency.”

Trump further accused the DOJ and FBI of a “conflict of interest” and insisted the agencies were obsessed with “getting Trump.” He then insisted that state authorities would bring a more rigorous prosecution.

“If the DOJ and FBI cannot do their job honestly and without bias, and hold the aspiring assassin responsible to the full extent of the Law, Governor Ron DeSantis and the State of Florida have already agreed to take the lead on the investigation and prosecution,” he added. “Florida charges would be much more serious than the ones the FBI has announced. The TRUTH would be followed, wherever it leads.”

The court ruled that the PREP Act barred the family’s claim against the hospital because the act grants immunity from liability for any “covered person” for any claim of loss “caused by, arising out of, relating to, or resulting from the administration to or the use by an individual of a covered countermeasure.”

    by Brenda Baletti, Ph.D., September 23, 2024

informed consent paper and bottles of remdesivir

EXCERPT: “Nevada’s Supreme Court last week dismissed a lawsuit against a hospital and two of its doctors who stopped treating a COVID-19 patient with ivermectin and replaced it with remdesivir and other drugs. The patient, Hal de Becker, was released from the hospital soon after and died in May 2021.

According to the lawsuit, the change in treatment was made against the family’s explicitly expressed wishes and without consulting them.

The family sued the hospital and doctors for negligence and wrongful death, alleging the doctors and hospitals were aware of scientific evidence supporting ivermectin’s effectiveness, but instead made treatment decisions influenced by politics and the media.

They also alleged that by failing to consult with de Becker’s family or his family physician about the treatment decisions, the doctors and hospital violated their right to informed consent.

The court ruled that the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act barred the family’s claim against the hospital because the act grants immunity from liability for any “covered person” for any claim of loss “caused by, arising out of, relating to, or resulting from the administration to or the use by an individual of a covered countermeasure.”

A “covered countermeasure” includes drugs, vaccines, devices or other products authorized to treat people during a declared medical emergency or security threat.

The court ruled that because the PREP Act makes it impossible to sue doctors and hospitals for failing to provide informed consent when they administer a covered countermeasure, including remdesivir, the plaintiffs had no grounds to sue.

It also made a more technical ruling that even if the PREP Act hadn’t prevailed in this case, the plaintiffs hadn’t provided the correct, specific legal documentation necessary in their expert affidavit to show the doctors engaged in professional negligence — and they were not allowed to amend their filing.

The affidavit did provide sufficient documentation for the negligence claim against the hospital, the court ruled. However, the court dismissed the case because the PREP Act takes precedence over any state laws governing informed consent….”
