DIY: Uses for Apple Peels

Since we’re beginning apple season, I wanted to share an article I found on ways to use up apple peels.  This was written by Brittany Davies on the tastingtable.com website:

Apples are delicious, versatile fruits that can be enjoyed fresh or cooked, sweet or savory, on their own or as a tasty addition to anything from oatmeal to salads to baked goods. After making a batch of applesauce, preparing a flaky pie, or peeling apple slices to appease a picky eater, you have probably found yourself with a pile of apple skins on the brink of being tossed in the garbage. In addition to making the most of your produce, reducing food waste by utilizing every part of the apple contributes to positive outcomes for the environment and the food supply. The USDA estimates between 30% to 40% of the food supply goes to waste with 31% of food loss occurring at the retail and consumer levels. Valuable nutrients and resources used to produce, transport, prepare, and store wasted food are all lost in a landfill. To combat this problem, the United Nations suggests consumers get creative to reduce food waste at home while speaking up in their communities and local governments.

Although food waste is a big problem, small actions daily such as finding ways to reuse apple peels are easy opportunities to minimize your impact. Wash your apples before peeling them to eliminate any residual pesticides, then enjoy the peels as a nutritious snack, transformed into baked goods, and even as a natural cleaner. Save money and the planet while making the most of your produce with these ways to use up apple peelings.

Turn them into a crunchy snack

Eating apples provide a variety of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, (via Harvard School of Public Health). However, much of the fiber and beneficial flavonoids are found in apple skins. Finding ways to incorporate the entire apple into your meals, whether eating it whole or finding innovative ways to consume the peels, is the best way to reap the most benefit from the fruit.

Using an oven, air fryer, or dehydrator, you can transform apple peelings into a crunchy, nutrient-rich snack. Environmentally-minded snack producers like RIND are already doing this with dried fruit products, all with skins intact. Meal kit service HelloFresh also offers suggestions for reinventing fruit peels as chips, candy, seasoning, and tea. To make crunchy apple skin chips in the oven, preheat to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and place the apple peels on a lined baking sheet. Season with a dash of cinnamon or get creative with your favorite blend of spices. Bake the peels for about 30 minutes, tossing halfway through to get them nice and crisp. Enjoy these crunchy snacks on their own, or as a way to add texture to salads, sandwiches, and wraps.

Stay hydrated with fruit infused water

Soak up the benefits of fruit-infused water by adding apple peels to your reusable bottle. In addition to keeping you hydrated, Dr. Danielle Hairston-Green of Prairie View A&M University, explains that infusing water with fruit and herbs offers flavor. The nutrients from the fruit can also support healthy skin and digestive systems.

Enjoy the refreshing flavor of apple skins on their own, or enhance them with other fruits, herbs, and spices. For a fall-inspired flavor, add orange peel, ginger, and cinnamon sticks to your water along with the apple peels, or give your water a bright, refreshing boost with apple peels, cucumber, and lemon. Infused water is a fun, versatile way to get the most out of produce scraps such as apple peels and cores, citrus rinds, mango peels, strawberry tops, herb stems, and even celery leaves. Check the produce for mold, then add scraps to the bottom of a pitcher or water bottle, stir, and let sit for at least an hour or up to overnight in the fridge, giving the fruit and herbs time to release their flavors.

Make tea

Apples are the perfect complement to chilly autumn evenings, especially paired with cinnamon and served hot in a cute mug. Apple peel tea is a quick way to warm up on a cool autumn day. Simmer apple peels and spices such as cinnamon and clove with water for about 10 minutes, add some lemon or orange zest and cook for an additional minute, then strain the peels and spices before serving the cozy drink with lemon slices and a drizzle of honey. You can also use dried apple skins as the base of a spiced tea mix that is ready to brew whenever you want it.

For those in search of a cool and refreshing apple beverage, try transforming leftover apple peels and cores into an herbaceous iced tea. Apples pair naturally well with robust herbs such as sage, rosemary, and thyme to create a unique flavor profile. To make apple peel and herb iced tea, boil herb leaves with one part maple syrup to one part water for herbed simple syrup. Combine your favorite loose-leaf tea, herb stems, apple peels and cores, and cold water in a pitcher. Stir and press down the scraps, making sure they are covered by water. Let the ingredients steep in the refrigerator overnight. Strain the scraps and serve the brewed tea over ice, sweetened with your homemade simple syrup.

Boost a smoothie

Packed with important nutrients, apple peels are a great way to boost your favorite smoothie. If using apples in your smoothie, save prep time by setting aside the peeler and using the whole fruit. If you’re debating whether to peel or not to peel prior to blending, know that apple peels, even when blended, might leave bits and pieces in the mixture. If you don’t enjoy the texture of the blended peels, consider making some homemade dried apple powder as a way to boost the flavor and nutrients in smoothies, oatmeal, and more.

With its many health benefits, it is no surprise that apple peel powder is a sought-after supplement that can be purchased in health stores to increase fiber and other nutrients in your food. According to research in the National Library of Medicine, dried apple peel powder has been associated with increased joint function and range of motion, among other benefits. With leftover apple peelings, you can make your own fiber-rich smoothie booster at home. Use an oven or dehydrator to dry the apple pieces, then pulse the dried peels in a blender until they form a powder. Condition the powder in a low-temperature oven for 15 minutes, then store in an airtight container.

Sweeten a salad

With their subtle sweetness, apples work equally well when paired with sweet or savory dishes and are a great way to liven up an average salad. The best salad ingredients enhance the dish with color, variety, and texture. Adding a hint of sweetness along with a unique mouthfeel, leftover apple peels make a tasty and versatile topping for salads. Try incorporating apple peelings in a hearty spinach salad topped with walnuts, sharp cheddar, and dried cranberries, which also pair well with the apples.

Chopped leftover apple skins could make an interesting change to a classic chicken salad as well, offering a fresh element to balance rich and savory ingredients. Thinly sliced apple peelings can also help stretch out coleslaw while adding a subtle touch of sweetness to the mix. Whether using red or green apple peels, the vibrant skins are a colorful and nutrient-dense addition to the vegetable blend.

Bulk up breakfast and baked goods

Savory or sweet, there are many creative ways to cook with apples. Incorporating leftover apple peels adds texture, flavor, and nutrients to a variety of breakfast options and tasty baked goods. They can be included whole for the most texture as well as chopped or blended into a finer mixture. Apple peel powder can also bring a sweet and nutritious boost to your breakfast and baked goods.

Bulk up your oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, or yogurt with a handful of apple skins or apple peel powder for an extra dose of fiber in your morning meal. For a savory breakfast delight, try including chopped apple peels in your homemade sausage recipe to add a touch of sweetness to the mix. You can also enhance bread, muffins, pies, cinnamon rolls, marshmallow treats, and other desserts with leftover apple peelings. They work especially well in recipes featuring warm spices like cinnamon, cloves, or star anise for a fragrant, fall treat.

Upgrade your baking with homemade apple extract

Level up your baking with even more apple-forward flavor by transforming leftover apple peelings into homemade apple extract. Pure extracts made from scratch are easy to prepare and taste better than synthetic versions. You can make extracts of any flavor using a few simple ingredients that are free of artificial flavors, colors, and heavy corn syrup.

To prepare your homemade extracts, you only need vodka and natural ingredients such as apple peels, citrus rinds, or vanilla beans. A water and vegetable glycerin mixture can be used as an alternative to alcohol, or you can swap the vodka for bourbon for a richer flavor. It only takes a few minutes to combine the ingredients, but the process of extracting the flavor can take five to six weeks. If you have access to the sous vide machine, you can speed up the process and intensify the flavor using this helpful device. Extracts made with vodka or bourbon will keep for a long time thanks to the high alcohol content. The bottles should be stored closed and away from light and heat in a cabinet or cupboard.

Make apple syrup

Leftover apple peelings are made even more delicious with some added sugar. We suggest saving apple peels to make rich, homemade apple syrup by reducing the peels with maple syrup or brown sugar and water. The result will be a little thinner than traditional maple syrup, but not as runny as plain simple syrup, and can be further enriched with cream, honey, or butter. You can even make spiced syrup by mixing in cinnamon and other warm spices or create interesting and complex syrup flavors by incorporating ingredients such as citrus peels, herbs, bourbon, or berries.

Use your homemade apple syrup to sweeten coffee, tea, and cocktails. Drizzle your fruity syrup over yogurt or oatmeal, mix it into homemade granola, or pour some over French toast, waffles, or pancakes for an elevated morning meal. You can even use your homemade syrup to make a sweet compound butter to spread over bread, bagels, and muffins.

Reduce them into jelly

Pectin-rich apple peels are perfect for making a batch of homemade apple jelly. Science Direct explains that pectin is a carbohydrate and natural gelling agent found in fruits, particularly citrus rinds and apple peels. Pectin is used to solidify jams, jellies, or preserves and has been included in juices and other beverages to improve the viscosity and mouthfeel. Plant-based pectin mimics the effects of gelatin, which is derived from animals and has a variety of culinary uses from making a glaze for fruit tarts to firming up gummy candies.

Because apples naturally contain higher amounts of pectin, making apple jelly requires only a few ingredients including apple peels and cores, water, sugar, and lemon juice. The pectin in the peels will thicken the mixture as it boils, creating a delicious jelly that can be stored in the refrigerator to enjoy right away or processed in a water bath canner for long-term storage. You can also use leftover apple peelings to extract pectin for use in other recipes. The best type of apples for making pectin are very firm, green apples because pectin levels decrease as the fruit ripens. Use your homemade apple pectin for a wide range of cooking, baking, and canning projects.

Turn them into apple cider vinegar

There are many myths and claims attached to apple cider vinegar, but regardless of the purported health benefits, the tangy substance has a number of versatile uses in and out of the kitchen. Apple cider vinegar is a fermented product that can be time-consuming to prepare but is well worth the effort for its myriad of uses from making salad dressing to cleaning your home. Although it can be a long, laborious process, all you need to make apple cider vinegar are apple peels and cores, a little bit of sugar, and water.

In addition to whipping up homemade salad dressings, we suggest using your homemade apple cider vinegar as an all-purpose solution for just about everything from killing weeds and deterring flies to washing produce and enhancing your beauty regimen. In the kitchen, you can employ apple cider vinegar to make a quick buttermilk substitute by mixing it with milk or include it in marinades to tenderize meat. The sour liquid can be used in pickle recipes as well as to make salsas, homemade mayonnaise, relishes, and more.

Infuse your booze

No longer a mere garnish, leftover apple peels can infuse your booze with a boost of apple flavor. To make a simple, apple-infused liquor, pack a sterilized jar with apple scraps such as peels and cores and fill the container with liquor and seal it with a lid. Store the container in a cool dark place for several weeks, shaking the jar every few days. Strain the apple remnants and enjoy straight or creative cocktails. Customize your infused liquors with herbs, spices, and other fruits for unique, signature additions to your liquor cabinet.

For a boozy use for apple peelings that takes less patience, try adding them to sangria along with citrus peels for a fragrant addition to the fruity beverage. Creative connoisseurs might try infusing their homemade alcoholic concoctions with leftover peels. We suggest those interested in making their own wine consider adding leftover apple skins to the mix or incorporating them into a cozy recipe for hard cider.

Treat your pets

Many pet parents love to please give furry friends special treats. After talking with your veterinarian about your individual pet’s needs, you might use your kitchen scraps to create tasty homemade treats your pet will love. According to the American Kennel Club, apple peels are good for dogs and can help ease digestive issues and maintain a healthy weight thanks to the extra fiber. However, refrain from feeding dogs apple seeds or cores as they contain small amounts of cyanide and may be a choking hazard. The apple peels can be eaten raw in small amounts or baked into chips or dog-friendly cookies.

Apple peels are a great snack for other types of pets as well, such as chickens, goats, and pigs. Offer leftover apple skins in small pieces for chickens to peck to save the peels from going into the trash. Goats and pigs will likely also enjoy the sweet apple treat.

Remove stains from cookware

Leftover apple skins are versatile kitchen scraps with a range of uses beyond the culinary world with surprising applications throughout the home. Fruit and vegetable peelings have many benefits around the home, including as a natural stain remover. The acid in apple peels can help break down grease stains and restore the shine of aluminum cookware and utensils.

To harness the cleaning power of your apple scraps, boil the pieces of apple skin in water and let them simmer in the stained aluminum pot or pan for about half an hour. Let the cookware cool, then wash it with dish soap, rinse, and dry it as usual. After applying this process, the stains and discoloration should be gone and your cookware will be restored to its original glory. Thanks to the fragrant fruit, you can also enjoy a fresh, lovely apple scent in your kitchen and home.

Freshen up with potpourri

Along with warm spices, the cozy smell of apples is a signature scent of fall. Freshening up your space with leftover apple peels can be as simple as pouring boiling water over a handful of apple scraps in a bowl, allowing the scent to disperse throughout the room. You can also capture the autumnal aroma with a do-it-yourself potpourri featuring leftover apple peels.

Fill your home with fragrance using a stove-top version in which the ingredients are added to water and simmered until the aroma fills the room or break out the dehydrator to create a dried mix that can be utilized throughout the house, even doubling as a cozy decoration. There are a plethora of uses for potpourri at home, in the car, for bags and suitcases, or as gifts. Dried apple skins can be placed in a small cotton sachet and placed in drawers or linen closets for an easy way to freshen up fabrics.

Enrich compost

If you find yourself with too many leftover apple peels to use before they go bad, note that apple skins can be frozen for future use. If wildlife frequents your yard, you might put them out for the squirrels, chipmunks, or birds to enjoy. However, if you do not wish to save your peels, consider returning any remaining bits to the soil by using them to enrich your compost. Make sure the apples have been washed to remove any potentially harmful pesticides or chemicals and take off any non-biodegradable produce stickers from the apple skins.

There are multiple ways to create compost, even if you are living in an apartment or other small space. The USDA explains that composting benefits the earth by feeding the soil without the use of chemical fertilizers, keeping food waste out of landfills, and conserving water by creating healthy soils. Two popular styles of compost include backyard composting and worm composting, also known as vermicompost. Apple peels can be broken down using either method, enriching the soil with the many nutrients found in the scraps while preventing food waste.

    1. Morning, Pat! Busy, busy bee, you are! Skies are now clear & 69 – never did get any more rain – we supposedly might get some in the coming days but it will be mostly to the E/SE. Temps predicted to get into the 40’s at night over the week-end. Fall has come! I’ll bet that triggers the lopes to ripen faster.

Wheezer wasn’t around when I got up but 10 minutes after I turned the kitchen lights on, he popped thru the doggie door. I gave him his tuna and, after eating it, he hunkered down in front of the door as he usually does. I stepped out to pet him and, altho I had to dodge his front claws a few times, he arched his back into my hand, then flopped over on his side and rolled over, exposing his belly and purring. IDT he knows what he really wants! LOL – come on, come on, come on….NO STOP!

      1. this brings me to a question that bothered me for a long time.

we hear about black pride in their culture–and i get that–and i understand it.

so why do so many prominent black women style their hair in this manner^^^? are the women who do that NOT proud of their culture?

            1. Personally, I would consider it black culture but I’m not well versed on the subject. But when you watch how these people act, it becomes clearer which is which.

  2. more one the somali fraud in walz’s Minnesota. the theft of the money was used to BUY properties. i sincerely hope they confiscate those properties. they were bought with stolen federal funds (TAXPAYER MONIES)

    article

Glass ceilings get broken, then wallets get stolen. Only in America? No. Only in Gov. Walz’s Minnesota.

But first, let’s pause to celebrate the incredible historic moment of the first Somali refugee to run a public housing agency.

Sharmarke Issa was confirmed by the Minneapolis City Council to chair Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA). Issa is the first immigrant and first East African to serve as chair of the MPHA Board of Commissioners.

“Having grown up in in Minneapolis public housing after coming to our city as a refugee, Sharmarke’s story of success highlights public housing as vital asset in Minneapolis,” said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. “Sharmarke’s life experience and background in urban planning are especially important to MPHA’s mission. At a time when the federal government continues to shortchange housing funding, he will be a skilled steward of our public housing infrastructure who understands and centers the needs of residents.”

Approximately one-third of Minneapolis Public Housing residents are members of the East-African community.

One third. 1 in 3 are Somalis. Just one of those little factoids about diversity being our strength. Kinda like Issa’s stewardship.

An Edina man who chaired the board of the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal wire fraud charges for his role in the Feeding Our Future nutrition program fraud scheme.

That was a $250 million social welfare fraud to help the Somali community.

Sharmarke Issa, 42, admitted to running entities that laundered federal funding for the scheme, including Wacan Restaurant LLC and a nonprofit called Minnesota’s Somali Community.

Issa was responsible for $7.6 million of the $50 million in fraud scheme money that the federal government says it lost,

Issa claimed to serve 2.3 million meals to children at his food sites. He admitted that some of the fraud scheme money instead went to properties he purchased in Edina, Minneapolis and elsewhere.

Everyone is now pretending to be shocked and outraged at water being wet.

When Sharmarke’s name first surfaced in 2022 as part of the case, Frey said the allegations against him were “appalling” and “run counter to the values that we are entrusted to uphold in the City of Minneapolis.”

    Forget it Jake, it’s Somalitown.

  3. she was the broadband czar–lol–and yet didn’t connect a SINGLE rural person or community with the internet despite spending the $42BILLION allocated for it???
    FTA
The letter further alleges Harris of misusing limited taxpayer dollars despite vowing that the administration’s $42 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program would deliver broadband services to unserved areas.

In 2021, you were specifically tasked by President Biden to lead the administration’s efforts to expand broadband services to unserved Americans. And at the time, you stated, “We can bring broadband to rural America today.” Despite your assurances over three years ago, rural and unserved communities continue to wait for the connectivity they were promised. Under your leadership, not a single person has been connected to the internet using the $42.45 billion allocated for the BEAD program. Indeed, Politico recently reported on “the messy, delayed rollout of” this program.

Instead of focusing on delivering broadband services to unserved areas, your administration has used the BEAD program to add partisan, extralegal requirements that were never envisioned by Congress and have obstructed broadband deployment. By imposing burdensome climate change mandates on infrastructure projects, prioritizing government-owned networks over private investment, mandating the use of unionized labor in states, and seeking to regulate broadband rates, your administration has caused unnecessary delays leaving millions of Americans unconnected.

Brendan Carr, Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, pointed out that after 1,038 days of the Biden-Harris Administration being in office, “Not a single person has been connected to the internet using the $42.45 billion.”

In addition, the Biden-Harris Administration has provided no information on how the $42 billion was spent. This has been the largest single investment in U.S. history for the Internet, and zero people, homes, and businesses have been connected.

  4. Good Morning, Ms. Pat, et al., Here, along the SE coast of GA, sun is shining through hazy skies, and predictions are for a mostly sunny day, with highs up to 84 degrees. I’ve been online for most of the morning, trying to follow the report referenced by Filly about the subversion of the original 13th amendment to the Constitution.

And, about apples . . . Johnny Appleseed was an American folk hero, but today’s apples are coated with a form of wax to avoid spoiling. Rotting apples emit ethylene gas. Hence the saying that “one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch”. So be sure that your apples have not been treated with the wax before using them for snacks. Maybe you can source unwaxed apples, where you are, but I must rely on the grocery stores.

    1. Aw, hell….I had a long comment typed out and when I tried to post it, my internet went out, of course! I’ve called OmniTech and they will be out sometime this week to check my antenna/reception. Every fricking day it goes out mid-morning and mid-afternoon – been happening for weeks and I’m sick and tired of it.

I’ve got tons and tons of links saved in various bookmark folders – been saving them since I woke up to reality in 2014. A lot of them are gone now, of course, but I’ve probably got close to 100 saved just in the Clinton folder!

Most of the fruit in grocery stores are coated with that crap these days.

      1. Filly, You are a worthy researcher, and I’m glad to be on your radar. I have similar problems with the internet at certain times of the day. I believe things get backed up, as in a traffic jam, when a lot of people try to send messages at the same time. I have similar problems with uploading my blog posts. Pictures, especially, take a long time. Too many bits of data to squeeze into the Information Highway. I’m learning patience like never before. The Clintons . . .I had a book about the murders associated with Bill’s presidency, published during or shortly after his terms. I lent it out and never got it back. Don’t remember the title. At the time, Hillary was busy taking over health care through bureaucracy. What later became Obamacare was Hillary’s baby.

        1. I have one book by a SS agent who served in the Clinton admin but I think that’s the only one specifically about them. I’ve got a bunch of other books, tho.

I have an antenna that pics up the signal from the radio on a tower a couple of blocks away. Occasionally, tree branches will interfere but that’s rare. I can see how many others are “on” in my surrounding neighborhood. It happens sometimes with only 2 or 3 other people on. Then again, it’s probably routed thru AT&T in this area so…..who knows what’s happening, it’s gotten soooo very complicated now. And, of course, Google has it’s tentacles literally everywhere so it’s kind of a pot luck as to the actual source.

            1. Oh, I know the Clintons are included in some of my other books and, now that I think about it, I’m sure I do have at least 3-4 other books that cover them in one way or another. I’ve probably got 20-25 political nonfiction books. Since I knew next to nothing, was eager to learn, and was flush with cash after my inheritance, I went on a book-buying spree! LOL – can’t afford to do that any more! Unfortunately, my small, conservative library doesn’t have a wide selection of political books available.

  5. NF: This is where I stand on this issue, too!

    https://www.axios.com/2024/09/18/israel-detonates-hezbollah-walkie-talkies-second-wave-after-pager-attack

Our Take: So Israel detonates thousands of pagers on Tuesday, injuring thousands and killing several, including a few kids. They couldn’t possibly have known who, exactly, was in the possession of those pagers at the exact moment of detonation; they were merely operating off of a presumption (perhaps based on intel) that a number of them would likely be in the hands of Hezbollah members.

Then, the next day, during the funerals of the victims—some of whom were Hezbollah, but also the children who were collateral damage—walkie talkies are detonated in a similar manner, injuring and killing more people, including more children.

Objectively speaking, how is what Israel is doing any different than what Ted Kaczynski (“The Unabomber”) was doing between 1978 and 1995, when he mailed bombs to random people in an attempt to foment chaos and anarchy? (Only 3 people were killed and 23 injured over that 17 year period—a rather lackluster body count, compared to what Israel just achieved in a 24 hour period.)

Furthermore, considering the level of coordination that Israel has demonstrated here, it would be prudent to remind everybody that back on October 7th, 2023, it took the Israeli government SEVEN HOURS to mobilize a response to a violent invasion, despite the fact that their entire society (mandatory military service) is organized around the preparation of that exact scenario.

Simply put, the Israeli government/military has been preparing for that moment ever since its creation in 1948. Not only did it fail to meet that challenge, but we now have Israeli helicopter pilots and corroborating investigative reports that confirm that military personnel were ordered to fire upon Israeli citizens that day, killing hundreds of them.

Brian Lupo and I actually covered the helicopter pilot’s public testimony back in November, on Badlands Daily. At the time, CannCon—a marine who serve in Iraq—said that the devastation shown in the picture below (which shows the parking lot of the infamous Nova music festival that became the original target of the Hamas attack) was absolutely indicative of damage caused by hellfire missiles launched from helicopters, and could not possibly have been caused by Hamas infantry with rifles and RPG’s.

    (Video)

With this totality of evidence, let’s check in on the international response:

And here’s what Israel is saying:

I understand there are reports of Israel rigging these devices with explosive materials, possibly linked to Taiwan or Hungary, and we will discuss that more, in detail, in the coming days. But this “shift in military strategy” to “all out war” aligns with what Ukrainian President Zelensky said a few days ago in a media interview, when he said that the NATO Nazi strategy is now to target Russian civilians, in order to undermine support for Putin’s war effort.

(Video – Ukraine attacks civilians in Belgorod)

What Zelensky is describing is terrorism, just like what Russian Foreign Minister spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said of the IDF.

A few days ago, I mused that we were witnessing the emergence of a “supervillain,” referring to the Netanyahu regime, and that could easily be extended to NATO and Ukraine, but this is clear evidence that the world finds this conduct unacceptable, and won’t stand by and allow civilians to be treated as military targets.

Not only is the Netanyahu regime descending into madness, but its behavior is bordering on suicidal. Anytime you are killing children, and indifferent toward it, then it is impossible for you to claim to be the benevolent actors.” —  GhostofBasedPatrickHenry

  6. Here you go – all my coffee drinking is beneficial!

Our Take: Wine is bad, wine is good. Eggs are bad, eggs are good. Coffee is bad, coffee is good. Trust the science and the experts.

I love this new study because I love coffee, and I drink more of it than any other beverage. For example, I had seven cappuccinos yesterday but, in my defense, they’re tiny little shot glasses that, when combined, don’t even comprise one Starbucks ‘Venti’ by volume. Still, it’s seven shots of espresso, so that must mean my heart is in solid shape now, right? That’s how I’m taking it. This is not medical advice.

Of course, the science and the media are hedging and telling people not to trust this very appealing story, because they hate joy and delicious caffeinated beverages.

You really don’t hate them enough. — Ashe in America

  7. I just cut up the small lope I picked yesterday – even tho it didn’t look ripe, it certainly was! Clearly, I have to pick them much earlier!!! I learn as I go. Along that track – I’ve cut it up into cubes and have 2 small plastic containers in the freezer to test that out.

  8. I decided to try another much greener lope and found that 2 more had come loose on their own – took them over to Mark, who plows my d/w. I’ve cut the green one and I’ve got half on the counter in a ziplock bag to see if it will ripen any more after it’s been cut. I cut the other half into bite-size pieces and just tried it – nope – that does not work! Way too hard and almost no flavor. Another lesson learned! I’ll take all of this into account next year and plan accordingly.

    DACA recipients….

HHS states that DACA recipients are “lawfully present” in the U.S. and can enroll in Obamacare.

Medicaid and CHIP will be next for people who are “lawfully present”

We are not finalizing a “lawfully present” definition for Medicaid and CHIP at this time.

  10. “We Won’t Forget — Benghazi Exposes a Lot of Treason”

    Joe Lange, Sep 19, 2024

EXCERPT: “There is a good reason why I needed to do several articles before I wrote about Benghazi. There are so many things connected to Benghazi, and it was important to know some very important background on John McCain before we got to this article. He is at the center of it all. He was heavily involved, but you would never know that at the time, according to the news media.

McCain acted like one of Obama’s biggest critics over the Benghazi scandal, but it was all a ruse. He was heavily involved, but that would never be discussed because his criticism of Obama would shield him, then help him to set the narrative and focus of the investigations. All coordinated by the enemy in order to hide the truth.

This scandal was a major battle in the ongoing narrative war. We didn’t control the narrative at the time, so the bombshells that were revealed ultimately didn’t change anything. The two tier justice system ruled the day.

But Benghazi has not been forgotten, and we haven’t forgotten the Americans who lost their lives, either.

(Pics – Stevens, Smith, Doherty, Woods)

Trump and our military have not forgotten them. Here’s Trump from way back in 2012, when all the investigations were happening, and long before he was running for president.

Trump knew how important Benghazi was back then. Do you think that he’s forgotten about Benghazi? We won’t forget.

Most people still don’t know what Benghazi was really about. They still think it was just another terrorist attack, and the “scandal” was that the Obama administration didn’t send help or prevent the attack in the first place. Those were “red herring” arguments from the beginning and were encouraged by the enemy in order to hide the truth. The truth is absolutely infuriating. It would have been a massive red pill for the American people at the time, but unfortunately, the enemy controlled the narrative battlefield. The entire media argued and debated these two questions for years:

    1. Why didn’t the Obama administration send help to Benghazi when Ambassador Stevens was under attack?
    2. Why was the security in Benghazi so weak in the first place?

That is what the investigations focused on, too. Those are two good questions, but they also help to hide the truth about this attack. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton both took a lot of criticism during the investigations, but they were never in any danger of facing consequences.

Why? Those two questions don’t come close to revealing the real reason this attack happened…..”

    1. NF: I did not know about THIS guy!!!!

      “Do you remember Raymond Maxwell?

He was a whistleblower who testified before the House Select Committee on Benghazi. He had worked for the State Department under Hillary Clinton during the Benghazi attack, and during the coverup. He was the Deputy Assistant Secretary at the time, and came forward to give damning testimony about Hillary.

      According to the Daily Signal:

As the House Select Committee on Benghazi prepares for its first hearing this week, a former State Department diplomat is coming forward with a startling allegation: Hillary Clinton confidants were part of an operation to “separate” damaging documents before they were turned over to the Accountability Review Board investigating security lapses surrounding the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya.

So the Accountability Review Board investigation didn’t get all the documents they requested from the State Department? Hillary was hiding documents?

What a shocker! That doesn’t sound like Hillary at all. She has always been so open and honest. She’s also been so transparent and helpful when it comes to investigations. I’m sure this must be a misunderstanding, or maybe just “another mistake.”

Right? More from the Daily Signal:

According to former Deputy Assistant Secretary Raymond Maxwell, the after-hours session took place over a weekend in a basement operations-type center at State Department headquarters in Washington, D.C. This is the first time Maxwell has publicly come forward with the story.

At the time, Maxwell was a leader in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, which was charged with collecting emails and documents relevant to the Benghazi probe.

“I was not invited to that after-hours endeavor, but I heard about it and decided to check it out on a Sunday afternoon,” Maxwell says.

      Did you catch that?

Raymond Maxwell was in charge of collecting emails and documents that were relevant to the Benghazi investigation. He wasn’t invited to this secret gathering in the basement at the State Department on a Sunday to remove any Benghazi documents that implicated Hillary or Obama. Maxwell showed up uninvited anyway, and was there to witness what was going on. He testified that two of Hillary’s closest aides at the State Department, Cheryl Mills and Jake Sullivan, were overseeing the operation.

The fact that he witnessed this “cover-up” made him a target….”

I don’t care if this has been shared, Listen To Every Word

“The Attorney General Merrick Garland just vetoed charging Ryan Routh with attempted assassination. So I want you to think about what the thought process of Merrick Garland must be. He must somehow think that this man was in that bush on that golf course for some other reason.

Even though this man, Ryan Routh, has actually written and published a book where he calls for the assassination of Donald Trump. This man then went and camped out in a bush on Donald Trump’s golf course for more than 12 hours with body armor and a fully loaded SKS.

Like, sure, the rifle you could explain away, but the body armor, you only have body armor if you expect for rounds to be fired at you. And I don’t know any animals he’d be hunting with opposable thumbs, so I can only surmise that he was worried about people shooting at him.

There he was camped out in a bush on Donald Trump’s golf course, waiting on the 6th hole while Donald Trump was on the 5th hole minutes away from being within range of him. And thankfully, the secret service was able to notice the barrel of his rifle sticking out of that bush, and then they opened fire, he fled, and he was eventually apprehended.

But to not charge him with attempted assassination, that means that Merrick Garland has found some reason to think that Ryan Ruth was there for some other reason, wearing body armor and carrying a fully loaded rifle.

I’m just curious what other reason could that be? What other reason could a man who’s written and published a book calling for Donald Trump’s assassination, bearing body armor with a fully loaded rifle hiding in a bush on Trump’s golf course in a spot where Trump was gonna be within a couple minutes.

What other reason did he have to be there? Like, somebody give me something. I’d love to hear Merrick Garland tell us why he thought Ryan Routh was there.

Because did not charge him with attempted assassination, that means that Merrick Garland thinks there is another good reason he was there other than to take a shot at Donald Trump. I’m just curious what that reason could possibly be.”

Both sides negotiating a legal settlement had ties to the Walz administration, sidestepping lawmakers and agreeing on controversial WPATH standards.”

    OpenTheBooks, Sep 19, 2024

EXCERPT: “Earlier this month, we took a deep dive into Minnesota’s state checkbook. Unlike the state budget, a broad plan to allocate funds, the checkbook contains every line-by-line expenditure the state makes in a given year. By comparing the paid vendors with those who donated to Governor Tim Walz’s reelection campaign, we found interesting examples of overlap but not enough information to identify confirmed conflicts of interest.

One particular headline-making case, though, begged a closer look. It demonstrates how policy can change without the taxpayers having much say in the matter.

By suing the state, a constellation of interests was able to negotiate a deal behind closed doors on the controversial topic of treating and housing transgender inmates. While taxpayers foot the bill, as always, their representatives in St. Paul were sidestepped in the policymaking process.

The bill came to $495,000, but updated policies mean Minnesotans can expect more costs in perpetuity.

    THE PLAINTIFF

Christina Lusk was an inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Moose Lake and identified as a transgender woman. Lusk had been working for several years to get access to what advocates call “gender-affirming” care. She wanted Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT), assessment for and access to gender reassignment surgery, and a transfer to a women’s prison.

She was also seeking damages, bringing a suit under the Minnesota Human Rights Act, provisions of which have already been the subject of media controversy this year.

    HELP FROM A CONNECTED NONPROFIT

Gender Justice is a nonprofit headquartered in St. Paul, Minn., focused on so-called “gender equity.” With policy education, advocacy and legal services arms, the organization lists among its mission “dismantling” legal structures that prevent equity. The group seeks to “create a world where everyone can thrive no matter their gender identity, expression, or sexual orientation. Central to this work is dismantling the legal, political and structural barriers to gender equity.”

The group is led by a Board of Directors that includes a member of the Walz administration. Gender Justice Board Treasurer EJ Dean, according to the website, also serves as Manager of Adult Mental Health Programs & Services at the MN Department of Human Services. In other words, Dean works as part of Governor Walz’s administration…..”

  14. Alaskan man arrested for making death threats against SCOTUS and a “former” president

    FTA

Washington — An Alaska man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly threatening to assassinate six members of the Supreme Court and harm two family members, the Justice Department said.

Panos Anastasiou, 76, is accused of sending more than 465 messages to the Supreme Court through an online portal, which included violent, racist, and homophobic rhetoric, according to court filings. Anastasiou allegedly threatened to assassinate, kidnap, torture, hang, behead and execute the justices, and encouraged other people to join him in committing acts of violence, the Justice Department said.

He faces nine counts of making threats against a federal judge and 13 counts of making threats in interstate commerce. Anastasiou appeared before a federal magistrate judge Wednesday and pleaded not guilty.

“We allege that the defendant made repeated, heinous threats to murder and torture Supreme Court Justices and their families to retaliate against them for decisions he disagreed with,” Attorney General Merrick Garland, a former federal appeals court judge, said in a statement. “Our justice system depends on the ability of judges to make their decisions based on the law, and not on fear. Our democracy depends on the ability of public officials to do their jobs without fearing for their lives or the safety of their families.”

The Supreme Court declined to comment on the charges. An attorney for Anastasiou was not listed in court records.

The targeted justices are not named in the indictment and identified only as “Supreme Court justices 1-6.” Charging documents state that some of the threats allegedly made by Anastasiou “were intended to intimidate” the justices and “retaliate against them for official actions” they had taken in their capacity as judges.

The messages were sent between January and July, when the Supreme Court ended its term, court documents.

In one of the messages, sent Jan. 4, Anastasiou allegedly threatened to murder one justice by saying he’d like to see the justice and an unidentified former president “hanging together from an Oak tree,” and said he would “gladly provide the rope and pull the handle.” The unnamed former president is likely former President Donald Trump, as a subsequent message included in court filings references him as a “convicted criminal.” Trump became the first former president to be found guilty of a crime when a New York jury convicted him on 34 state felony counts earlier this year.

Another message on May 10 included a threat to kill the same justice by “lynching” and included a racial slur, according to legal documents.

The administration was trying convince the public there was no threat at the border,” Heike said at a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing entitled, “A Country Without Borders: How Biden-Harris’ Open-Borders Policies Have Undermined Our Safety and Security.”

Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., chairman of the subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, said the Biden-Harris administration has presided over a “self-inflicted border crisis” and the country faces a “threat to the homeland from within the homeland.”

“By ending effective Trump era policies and programs that protected us, the Biden-Harris administration has intentionally left us vulnerable to potential attacks from terrorists and criminals who are freely moving around our communities,” he said.”

    1. Just The News: “Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz on Thursday claimed that a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security told him prior to the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump that the agency knew of five assassination teams targeting him.

“An official from the Department of Homeland Security in my office before the second assassination attempt, saying that what he has assessed is that there are five known assassination teams in the United States, three inspired by other governments, two that are here, that are known domestic assassination teams,” Gaetz said on “Human Events Daily.”

“And with that, this individual was coming to me, concerned that the force protection around President Trump, even prior to that second assassination attempt, was not sufficient for what it needed to be, and the coordination at that level, at the dignitary protection level is like the bare minimum that we have to do to keep our presidents, our presidential candidates, safe while they’re on the trail,” he went on.

“Five teams that we know are targeting Trump,” he clarified. “And so that raises real questions about why certain teams were being pulled off of the Trump deal detail and put on, for example, the Jill Biden detail.”

“Now we don’t want anything bad to happen to Joe Biden, but at the same time, the threat envelope for her was substantially different than the threat envelope around President Trump, and it would not have necessitated pulling assets away from the Trump detail for the Joe Biden detail or the John Bolton detail or any other details that were beefed up at the same time, the requests from the Trump detail and from the Trump campaign for more security, were going unanswered, frankly,” he concluded.”

    5. “Was Trump Attacked With an Infrared Laser, Sending 20+ People to the ER?

The weapon is compact and the light is invisible. Nobody would feel anything until later. Is there a better explanation for what happened?”

      JD Rucker, Sep 19, 2024

“Tinfoil hat time. At an Arizona rally last week, around 20 attendees who were seated in bleachers behind and to the left of Donald Trump had to go to the emergency room after the event. Most complained of pain and swelling in their eyes and even partial blindness. According to the Arizona Globe:

While the rally drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, it ended with an unexpected turn of events. Approximately 20 attendees, primarily members of the “Latinos for Trump” group who had been onstage, reported becoming ill with mysterious symptoms shortly after the rally concluded. All those who reported falling ill were seated on the side of the stage where Trump made his entrance before approaching the podium.

Pastor Eli Moreno, who opened the rally with prayer, and his wife, Francesca Moreno, were among those affected. Pastor Moreno said that he experienced mild discomfort, but his wife’s symptoms were far more severe. On their drive home, Mrs. Moreno’s nose began to run, her vision blurred, and her face swelled up. They stopped at a Walgreens and encountered another rallygoer with similar symptoms. Mrs. Moreno stated that emergency room doctors flushed her eyes earlier and referred her to an ophthalmologist. Five days later, she was just beginning to feel better.

Mayra Rodriguez, another attendee, also fell ill 30 minutes after leaving the rally, experiencing burning eyes and a severe headache. By the time she arrived at the emergency room, she could no longer open her eyes. After performing a dye test, the doctor informed her that she had suffered a chemical burn. Days later, she continued suffering from blurry vision and light sensitivity.

Several other attendees shared similar stories with The Arizona Globe. The reported symptoms, including blurred vision, severe eye pain, and facial swelling, appeared roughly 30 minutes after the rally ended. One attendee used milk to ease the burning before heading to the hospital, while another reported his face turning red and peeling. They stated that the emergency room staff told them they were not alone—multiple patients from the rally had come in with the same complaints.

As of yesterday, Tuscan Police had not indicated they were investigating the possible crime.

After posting the story on The Liberty Daily and America First Report, I received an email from a reader:

My first take on the eye injuries at the latest Trump Rally is likelyhood of an infared (non-seeable) laser was aimed at Trump but injuring those behind him.

These injuries were common during the Gulf War (1992) when infrared targeting lasers swept the desert battlefield day and night. One cannot tell immediately when exposed but later when the eye inflammation starts.

The laser-eye injury threat was largely why desert soldiers wore protective eyewear day and night. At night the iris is more open and allows more eye damage.

      See Military Aerospace.

I then looked into multiple sources regarding infrared laser weapons and it all jibed. IF someone was positioned in front of and to the right of Trump and IF they had some sort of device that emitted infrared lasers, it’s possible that the people behind Trump would have been hit. The results would have been exactly what we’re seeing reported… though not nearly reported enough since very few outside of The Gateway Pundit and a handful of others are touching the story.”

by Beyond Pesticides, September 19, 2024

      bee with pollen near flower

EXCERPT: “A literature review in Trends in Analytical Chemistry analyzes scientific articles from the last 10 years from around the globe that identify more than 300 pesticides in bee pollen.

Bee pollen, often used as an edible dietary supplement, is not regulated for pesticide residues, which sparks concern for human exposure due to contamination with pesticides, heavy metals, metalloids and mycotoxins.

      The Spanish authors stated:

“Bee pollen is a food supplement that is receiving increasing attention for its nutraceutical and therapeutic properties. However, several uncertainties on the safety of this beekeeping product still exist. The present work addressed this issue through the critical evaluation of 61 studies, published over the 2014–2024 period.”

Bee pollen is produced by honey bees. After they forage on flowers and gather pollen on their hind legs (in pollen baskets or corbiculae) to transport back to the hive, it is moistened with nectar and salivary secretions to create bee pollen in the form of pellets.

While the composition of bee pollen can vary between geographical locations with different flowers, the studies reviewed all utilize mass spectrometry to pinpoint pesticides, as well as mycotoxins (created by naturally occurring mold spores), that threaten human health.

“Pesticides are chemicals designed to control agricultural pests, hence preventing product losses, but their toxicity can also affect non-target species, including humans, causing various disorders such as metabolic syndrome, inflammation, and nerve injuries,” the researchers said.

These effects have been widely documented in peer-reviewed scientific journals. See more coverage from Beyond Pesticides here.
