DIY: Bottle Garden

This is a great little idea I found on the balconeygardenweb.com website.  It shows how to construct an easy to make, limited space herb garden!

From the website:

Where to grow herbs, if you don’t have space? Even a wooden plank is enough, with some plastic bottles, hooks, nails and hammer, you’re all set to grow your own herbs.
Nail the plank on wall, mount some cut bottles and insert something to clog the bottom so that it’ll restrict the soil from spilling out. Now plant seedlings of your favorite herb in them.

How easy is that?

There are also other quick and clever ideas for planters:

    1. Morning, Pat! Considering the heat coming for the entire NE, I expect your temps will warm up soon. Went out to fill Wheezer’s bowl and she was sleeping on the chair on the west end of the patio. She sat and watched while I filled the dish and put it back out, then tucked in before heading out for the day.

Temp is at 69 and cloudy but it’s supposed to clear up later – for a few hours anyway – temp could get into the 90’s, which will then generate more storms. I’ll be making my run to Norfolk before it gets too hot and after the mail is delivered, if there is any – I rarely get any mail on Fridays/Saturdays.

I think I’ve found the solution to my ant problem = baking soda and vinegar poured into the sink drain, followed 15 minutes later by boiling water…since the ant traps didn’t do the job. When I got up yesterday, they were swarming in the sink in my island; they apparently have nests in the drain and that mixture kills them, while the boiling water washes away the residue of the nests.

I kind of thought it wouldn’t work since my baking soda expired in 2016! LOL – but it fizzed up when I added it to the vinegar so I decided to give it a try. It appears to have worked! I’ve seen 2 or 3 since then but that’s it and not even one this morning! And yes, some fresh baking soda is on my shopping list, as well as more vinegar. I use it to clean out my coffee pot regularly so it will be put to use one way or another.

  1. Good morning, Miss Pat!

Joke’s on me – I read the link as Baloney Garden Web – no wonder I couldn’t find it!

    However, Balcony doesn’t have an E – https://balconygardenweb.com/

The Balcony Garden Web site is so cool – so many ideas for small spaces – It’s really therapeutic just to explore it.

      1. Sally Q has been stable for a while now, thanks to the pacemaker and a change of meds. It’s a progressive disease, but so far, her doctors have been managing everything very well. In addition to the mowing, edging, etc. – I’ve been home restoring the garden bed that had to be dug up to repair a leak – working when the heat is least likely to kill an old lady.
Still praying about whether to move her here or move over there. There are pros and cons to both.
How are you and your hubby doing? I enjoy reading about your and Filly’s homesteads and the critters and birds that visit.

    1. Fricking permits! Had to get a city permit to even fence in my back yard!!! When I first moved here and bought the 2 acres in back that was planted in alfalfa, I had plans to fence it in and put a barn there, with 2 separate pastures for horses. I also had to get my neighbors to agree to having horses there – they all had no issue with it and signed statements to that effect. Those 2 acres are still zoned agricultural and technically outside the city limits. When I realized the expense involved and the years I would have to wait for any grass to grow….I gave up on that plan and sold it.

While I have hundreds of long time trusted contacts between NYPD and LAPD, I am getting messages from LEOs across the U.S. that uniforms, equipment, cruisers (even a SWAT truck) have turned up missing in the past 6 months and no one seems to care. There has always been the occasional dry cleaner thefts, police vehicle burglaries, badges/ID, guns stolen from personal vehicles/home burglaries but this is different, targeting dozens of items at the same time.

    @TonySeruga

19 NYPD uniforms are missing from a New York dry cleaners. And last month, 200 NYPD complete police vehicle vinyl stickers went missing from a vendor.

Dozens of LEOs with experience in counterintelligence are pointing fingers at a rogue FBI working with DIA and CIA. The NYPD radios stolen were in a locked room. CCV were disabled and access card logs erased.

      1. Did anyone catch that the 911 system was offline for “several hours” on Tuesday across the entire state of Massachusetts? Officials have since blamed faulty software, but if it were a nefarious cyberattack or hack job, would they even tell us? I seriously doubt it.

Could terrorists dress like cops and go door-to-door à la October 7th while 911 services are down? Doesn’t seem that inconceivable to me.

Does anyone else still think about the missing ammonium nitrate? Sixty-thousand pounds of an explosive compound that somehow just vanished while in transit last year? Don’t worry though because CBS News said not to, just as long as the chemical’s disappearance was caused by a leak—and if it wasn’t something innocuous but malicious instead?

I have a lot of questions, and almost no answers.

  3. https://www.breitbart.com/2024-election/2024/06/20/biden-enters-debate-camp-with-advisers-ahead-of-1st-showdown-with-trump/

Our Take: So-called Ruler of the US Joe Biden is spending more than a week in debate prep at Camp David, which is hilarious because no amount of prep will fix Joe Biden.

President Trump is approaching the debate as just another campaign appearance, laughing at the idea that he would require anything resembling Joe Biden’s all-hands-on-deck approach to preparing for the contest.

This debate will be must-see TV, and is sure to produce viral and hilarious moments. Americans will recall that Biden’s team cancelled the remaining debate in 2020, claiming COVID as the reason when everyone knew it was because the future scrotus was getting destroyed in the heads to head.

Don’t forget the June 27 debate involves Biden’s hand-picked moderators and no live audience. There are also rumors that the candidates will be sitting.

And the world will be watching. — Ashe in America

  4. The fact is, if women want to be treated equally to men, then that should apply to EVERYTHING, not just the little pieces the “feminists” want to carve out for themselves! Yes, I am a do-it-yourselfer in many things but I’m not foolish enough to believe that I am as physically capable as men – that’s ridiculous! The vast majority of women do not have the body mass for it. And I have NEVER supported women being in combat arms’ MOS’s! But if you TRULY want real “equality,” eat the whole apple, not just a bite here and there!!!

  5. Presto Chango:  The Rockefeller Effect on the 2024 Election

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (U.S. Army, Ret.)

    June 19, 2024

    “Introduction

Mark Twain was said to have written:  “History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes.”  Today, we look back a half-century to see what precedents exist for how Democrat power brokers just might address the problem of keeping their party in power, without relying on either a mentally challenged President or an intellectually challenged Vice President.

Make no mistake about it.  There are powerful Democrat forces lurking behind Joe Biden’s throne who even now are plotting ways to shove him to the side.  His performance at the G7 conference in Italy, where Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had to take him by the arm after he wandered off from his colleagues, might have been the final straw.  The problem they face is how to avoid elevating to the Presidency the nation’s first female and first non-white Vice President without losing support from the Democrats’ most reliable constituencies.  With these people, no strategy is off the table in order to retain political power.  Let’s consider one approach that could be hatched in a smoke-filled room in the coming weeks that could turn the 2024 Presidential election on its head.

    The Rockefeller Precedent

Richard Nixon hand picked the little-known Maryland Governor Spiro Agnew as his running mate for his win in 1968.  Agnew turned out to be a forerunner of Trump, aided by the rhetorical skills of Pat Buchanan, in attacking the press as “nattering nabobs of negativism.”  Despite the flack he took for being Nixon’s hatchet man, Nixon stuck with him again for his landslide in 1972 — carrying every state but Massachusetts.  However, in less than a year, Agnew came under investigation by the U.S. Attorney for Maryland, pled no contest to a single felony charge of tax evasion, and resigned from office.

To fill the Vice Presidency, in October 1973, Nixon appointed House Minority Leader Gerald Ford.  It had only been six years since the states had ratified the 25th Amendment, which provided a new method to fill a vacancy in the Vice Presidency.  Under that Amendment, the President nominates a new Vice President who takes office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.  There are no restrictions on who the President may nominate — it need not be a person who has ever been in elected or appointed office.  Long a fixture on Capitol Hill, Ford was confirmed easily by both the Senate and the House and sworn in on December 6, 1973.

Facing his own problem with the Watergate scandal, Nixon was forced to resign from the presidency on August 9, 1974, succeeded by Vice President Ford, for whom no American had ever voted for national office.  Less than two weeks later, President Ford nominated former New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller as Vice President.  He too saw swift Senate and House confirmation and was sworn in on December 19, 1974.

At that point, the nation had not only an unelected President, but an unelected Vice President.  And all those changes had occurred only 25 months after Nixon-Agnew took the election by storm, winning 49 states and over 60 percent of the popular vote.  Does that historical illustration give anyone ideas?

    If Past Is Prologue

In the last few weeks, talking heads have suggested that Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor should step down.  She is 69 years old and says she has diabetes, and Democrats could appeal to her to resign so her replacement could be chosen by President Biden.  A resignation would avoid the risk of vacancy occurring during a Trump Administration.  (No Democrat wants to repeat the scenario where Ruth Bader Ginsburg hung on until after President Obama left office, resulting in Trump nominating Amy Coney Barrett.)

Just who is there who might be able to fill what is now considered both a “female” and “minority” seat on the High Court?  Well, a minority female might be a good choice for a Democrat President.  And, after every recent Supreme Court decision that does not go Biden’s way, Kamala Harris seems to launch an attack on the Justices, indicating she would have done better.  Sounds like she might welcome an appointment where her clerks could write her opinions, and she would not be called on to deliver “word salad” speeches.  That moves her out of the way.

At that point, Biden could use that 25th Amendment to appoint someone.  Who might that be?  Could it be Hillary?  Lots of Democrat politicians would line up for that appointment.  Whomever it may be, after confirmation, that would be a great time for President Biden to decide that his health has taken a surprising, sudden downturn and to resign.  At that point, all that would be needed is for the new President to pick a new Vice President, and we are back to the 1970’s.  Someone like Gavin Newsom?  Presto Chango:  as the Republicans did in the 1970’s, the Democrats could do in the coming weeks, giving us an unelected President and Vice President on the general election ballot.

Let’s look back a half-century to see how that worked out for the Republicans.  With President Ford facing a tough nomination challenge from Ronald Reagan, Rockefeller (despised by Goldwater supporters) offered to step aside, and Ford eventually agreed.  At the 1976 Republican National Convention held in August, the delegates selected Senator Bob Dole for VP.  Four years after having trusted Nixon-Agnew, and having both candidates disappoint, the voters decided not to trust Ford-Dole.  The ticket was defeated by Carter-Mondale, 297 to 240 in the Electoral College, and 40,825,839 to 39,147,770 in the popular vote.

Rather than Joe Biden-Kamala Harris, could the Democrat’s Fall ticket be Hillary Clinton-Gavin Newsome?  Could this scenario play out again in the future?  It certainly is not impossible.  Actually, when you think about it, it sounds quite possible.”

  6. OK – I had to look this one up. Although the above quote is cut up, Fauci actually said this. But even more bizarre, Fauci “predicted” what probably happened with the release of the gain-of-function manipulated SARS-CoV-2 WIV virus. Here is the full quote and the link to his paper, with Fauci as a single author.

Putting aside the specter of bioterrorism for the moment, consider this hypothetical scenario: an important gain-of-function experiment involving a virus with serious pandemic potential is performed in a well-regulated, world-class laboratory by experienced investigators, but the information from the experiment is then used by another scientist who does not have the same training and facilities and is not subject to the same regulations. In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic? Many ask reasonable questions: given the possibility of such a scenario—however remote—should the initial experiments have been performed and/or published in the first place, and what were the processes involved in this decision?

Scientists working in this field might say—as indeed I have said—that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks.

The humidity is off the charts and I can see clouds building in the distance so I’m heading out. Drive safely yourself and enjoy your visit. Oh, and I just saw one of those crested WP’s you posted yesterday on the new block!

NEW — From Sean Davis: “In 6-3 decision issued today, the Supreme Court ruled that 1) a jury must be unanimous in its findings on criminal convictions, and 2) sentencing enhancements cannot be arbitrarily implemented by judicial fiat.

The ruling and the rhetoric in the opinion have obvious implications for both the illegal Bragg witch trial against Trump in New York City and the bogus J6 1512(c) charges and sentencing enhancements that corrupt federal judges have announced they will implement if the Supreme Court nukes 1512(c).”

“Fishing crew rescues 38 dogs treading water in lake — The crew loaded 27 dogs into the boat for the first load and took them to shore. They then went back and rescued 11 more.”

By Hannah Wallsmith and Andrew McMunn

Published: Jun. 19, 2024 at 7:13 PM CDT

GRENADA, Miss. (WMC/Gray News) – A fishing crew in Mississippi went out to catch fish, but came back with dozens of dogs instead. Bob Gist, of Arkansas, and his friend Brad Carlisle, of Tennessee, decided to meet up in Memphis and travel down to Grenada Lake for a quick fishing trip.

The two met up with local fishing guide Jordan Chrestman and started what turned out to be a very adventurous day. Gist said they hadn’t been on the lake very long when they noticed something in the water. It turned out to be dogs, a lot of dogs.

As they got closer, Gist said they discovered dozens of hound dogs, all wearing expensive radio collars and white paint, and all treading water. The dogs were at least a half mile offshore, and Gist said he could tell by the way their heads looked in the water that they couldn’t see the shore and seemed to be lost.

Chrestman pulled the boat up to each dog, and Gist and Carlisle loaded them one at a time into the boat. Gist said they loaded 27 dogs into the boat for the first load and took them to shore. They then went back and rescued 11 more. A total of 38 dogs were rescued.

Gist found out the dogs were a part of a fox hunt that day in Grenada and had continued to chase a deer that went into the lake. Gist said he didn’t know any of the dog owners and none of the owners had a boat to rescue their dogs.

According to Gist, the dogs may have all died if he and his friends hadn’t come along. He said he believed the dogs had been treading water for at least 45 minutes to an hour.

Gist said the dog owners tried to give the fishing crew money for saving their dogs, but they turned it down. They said they just happened to be in the right place at the right time and did what they had to do to jump into rescue mode.”

  10. Hmmmm…..I am wary of McCullough, tbh – he is a little bit too invested in the financial side of things, IMO, but YMMV. There’s got to be a $$$ catch for him, seems to me….

“Groundbreaking Study Discovers ‘Off-Switch’ for mRNA COVID-19 Injections– There was never thought to be a way to “undo” the shots—until now.”

THE VIGILANT FOX, JUN 21, 2024

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Contrary to initial claims that the “vaccine” stays in the arm, it spreads throughout the body, prompting serious safety concerns. Now, there is hope for approximately 5.5 billion people to “inactivate” what they put into their bodies.

In a recent preprint study, Dr. McCullough and his team presented a novel approach using small interfering messenger RNA (siRNA) and ribonuclease targeting chimeras (RIBOTACs) to bind and deactivate the mRNA from these vaccines, allowing the body to clear it out.

“We use these small interfering RNAs already in practice,” McCullough stated. “There’s one called Patisiran, the other one, Inclisiran. I use them in my practice. They only last in the body a few days. They bind up messenger RNA to inactivate it.

“The longevity of the encapsulated mRNA along with unlimited production of the damaging and potentially lethal Spike (S) protein call for strategies to mitigate potential adverse effects,” the study’s abstract declares. Dr. McCullough’s proposed solution—targeting and degrading residual vaccine mRNA—could prevent uncontrolled spike protein production and reduce toxicity.

With Moderna’s mRNA vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus and influenza now approved, the urgency for an “off switch” becomes even more pressing.

McCullough warns, “Without any way to turn off the messenger RNA, we think every single messenger RNA shot, because it’s been made synthetic and resistant to human breakdown, is going to make people progressively sick. We have to find a way to get this out of the body.”

“We hope that some molecular technology companies can pick this up and consider this. We’re gonna need an off switch for this.”
