Other Uses for Bar Keeper’s Friend

From the FAMILY HANDYMAN’s website:

Learn how to use Bar Keepers Friend in ways you’d never thought of before, including cleaning rusty tools, removing a stubborn toilet ring and more!

Go-to cleaning product Bar Keepers Friend (BKF) has developed a cult following, and with good reason. The inexpensive powdered cleaner invented by chemist George William Hoffman in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1882, can do much more than polish brass bar fixtures — the job it was originally marketed to do.

What Is Bar Keepers Friend Made Of?

Bar Keepers Friend’s seemingly magic powers come courtesy of its main ingredient, oxalic acid. This natural substance attacks rust, lime, tarnish and other stains on a molecular level, breaking the bonds holding them together to eliminate all trace. It works on multiple surfaces, too.

“BKF powder has just the right blend of powdered oxalic acid and micro-abrasives to safely scour off even long-term mineral build-up without damaging fiberglass, chrome or stainless steel,” says Melissa Homer, chief cleaning officer with MaidPro.

And at a mere $2 a can, you can’t afford to ignore its cleaning power!

How To Use Bar Keepers Friend

Our cleaning experts suggest mixing the powder with water to create a paste, then wiping it off after a brief period. Extended contact can damage finishes.

Homer recommends creating a thick slurry of 1/4-cup BKF mixed with a little water. Smear the slurry onto the surface you want to clean, let sit for 10 minutes while the acids work their magic, then scrub. “Dampen, sprinkle, smear, sit and scrub, and you can clean virtually anything,” Homer says.

The manufacturer says to avoid using BKF on porous surfaces like cast iron, granite, marble, wood, fabric, leather or painted surfaces.

Ways To Use Bar Keepers Friend

Read on for a host of ways to put this hardworking, inexpensive helper to good use all over your home. A few caveats before you start: Wear gloves, don’t mix with other cleaning products, and always test in an inconspicuous spot first.

Refresh bathroom surfaces and fixtures

Homer recommends smearing a Bar Keepers Friend slurry on hard water spots, mineral deposits and rust stains on glass shower doors, fixtures, tubs and sinks. You can use it on toilet rings, too.

“Clean the toilet with your favorite bathroom spray, flush and pump the flusher [in the toilet water tank] to lower the waterline,” she says. “Sprinkle the powder on the ring, smear it around on the stains with your brush, wait 10 minutes and scrub.”

Remove rust on tools and more

Apply the paste directly on the trouble spot, let sit for a minute, then wipe away. This helps all kinds of items in your garage, including golf clubs, garden tools, ice skate blades and old bikes.

Pro tip: Use a cotton swab to scrub hard-to-reach spots. “I saved a dirty old classic Radio Flyer tricycle with rusty handlebars from the landfill with just a can of Bar Keepers Friend and the back of a kitchen sponge,” Homer says. “I had it looking like it just rolled off the factory floor in less than 20 minutes.”

Get rid of sticky labels

Use Bar Keepers Friend Spray Foam Cleaner to dissolve adhesive and easily remove the annoying residue left behind by labels. Simply spray and let it sit for a minute before wiping clean.

Renew a fireplace

Use Bar Keepers Friend to remove layers of grime and soot stains and from the fireplace door. Remove the insert and lay flat. Wet the glass and sprinkle with BFK. Wait 15 to 20 seconds, then lightly scrub with a wet sponge. Rinse and repeat until sparkling.

Clean kitchen surfaces

Sinks, cookware, appliances and more can benefit from a little BFK. For stainless steel, use a microfiber cloth or non-abrasive sponge and clean with the grain.

On glass cooktops, go with BKF Cooktop Cleaner. First, scrape off any food. Then cover the affected area with cleaner and let it sit, no longer than five minutes. Wet a sponge, apply more Cooktop Cleaner to the sponge, then wipe the stained area in a circular motion. Rinse the sponge and wipe cleaner from cooktop.

Scour siding

Give dingy vinyl siding a good scrub with a Bar Keepers Friend and water solution to help it look new again. Wet a section of siding, scrub the solution on with a wet sponge, then rinse well.

Detail your vehicle

BKF can cut through carbon buildup on your exhaust pipes and make dirty hubcaps shine. It can also turn cloudy headlights clear again — clean, then dampen before sprinkling with BKF. Gently scrub, let sit for up to a minute, then rinse with warm water. Repeat until sparkling.

Update dishes

To get rid of stains and scratches on mugs, glassware and porcelain servingware, sprinkle BKF on a damp sponge and wipe onto the scratched surface. Let sit for 10 to 15 seconds, then lightly scrub with a damp sponge. Rinse and wipe clean.

Refresh sneakers

Make a paste of BKF and water and start scrubbing to clean shoes. All surfaces except leather can benefit! Use a toothbrush to detail rubber soles and edges. Scrub until clean, then wipe off remaining cleaner with a damp sponge.

    1. Morning, Pat! We’ve actually got a few really nice days ahead, possibly hitting the 80 mark – 62 and clear at the moment, with no wind, thankfully. I put the big hanging planters out last night, then went out to hang up the buckets this morning. Yeah, no – one of my jimmy-rigged hangers came apart – again – and the plant hit the ground – again. So no more on those hangers, which are now on the junk pile – and the buckets are now placed on the sill of the patio, safely on the ground….sigh…

On another note….I looked up from my plants to see Wheezer hunkered down nearby, just watching me. He didn’t come onto the patio until I went inside, then called to him before closing the door again. Only then did he come in and eat.

With all the rain and fertilizer, my lawn is exploding and looks soooo nice and lush….but that means it also needs mowing again already! There IS no winning here – I’m beginning to get that thru my thick head! But I am going to enjoy the next few days thoroughly!

      1. Morning Filly!
we’ve got thick clouds with brief peeks of sunshine…but it doesn’t look good.
the buck with the small horns already has taken over the spot in the shed…lol AND he’s taken the spot in front of the garden–where there’s shade in the afternoon.
hopefully he will still be here in fall so we can see how many points he has.

Biden’s FBI Justified Its Deadly Force Policy in Mar-a-Lago Raid Because of “Life Threatening” Kitchen Utensils, Resort Gym Equipment

Judge Aileen Cannon last Tuesday unsealed numerous motions related to Jack Smith’s classified documents case against Trump.

One filing revealed Biden’s FBI authorized the use of deadly force during their raid on Mar-a-Lago authorized by US Attorney General Merrick Garland in August 2022.

Armed FBI agents were prepared to confront Trump!!

“Should FPOTUS [Trump] arrive at MAL [Mar-a-Lago], FBI MM EM and OSCs will be prepared to engage with FPOTUS and USSS Security Team,” the document read. “Should USSS provide resistance or interfere with FBI timeline or accesses, FBI MM EM will engage with [redacted] and [redacted] will engage with USSS POC’s per existing liaison relationships.”

    …The goalposts have moved again.

Joe Biden’s FBI justified its authorization of the use of deadly force during their Mar-a-Lago raid because of “life-threatening” contraband in the kitchen and gym.

But wasn’t it just standard policy?

“Without no basis whatsoever, in the affidavit or otherwise, FBI agents searched the private bedrooms of the First Lady and President Trump’s youngest son. See Walter v. United States, 447 U.S. 649, 657 (1980) (“[A] warrant to search for a stolen refrigerator would not authorize the opening of desk drawers.”). The FBI’s photo log demonstrates that the agents took extensive photographs of those rooms—42 and 27, respectively—for no apparent reason. See Ex. 5 at USA01285293-300. There was no factual basis for the agents to rummage through rooms not specified in the warrant and, not surprisingly, they seized nothing from these other rooms,” according to Trump’s motion for relief relating to the Mar-a-Lago raid and unlawful piercing of attorney-client privilege.

“Nor was there any basis for the FBI to bring firearms into Mar-a-Lago. There were no threats and no risk to agents’ safety arising from their allegations relating to possession of documents at a premises already guarded by the Secret Service. But the agents appear to have done so, based on documents produced in discovery, in order to search for alleged contraband they pretended was life threatening in Mar-a-Lago’s gym and kitchen (five and four pictures, respectively),” the motion read.

I don’t understand this and am probably missing some details. If the FIB is justifying its bringing firearms to MAL because of alleged life-threatening contraband in the gym and kitchen, how would they have known, before the raid, that such things were present at MAL?

Additionally, “contraband” is not life-threatening unless it’s a poisonous substance that would harm one if touched. But people using “contraband” in a life-threatening way IS life-threatening. So the implication was that Trump or his family or associates were likely to endanger the lives of the agents.

Which brings me back to my original thought: This was not a standard raid, so standard operating procedure was not only not appropriate, but it was dangerous. It made Trump out to be someone who would endanger the lives of agents, opening him to the use of deadly force.

    1. originally President Trump met with agents before hand–showing them Mar-a-lago. He was cooperating. It is my suspicion that when they dreamt up the dangerous situation for which they might need to be armed, they remembered the knives in the kitchen and the dumb bells in the gym and used that so they could arm themselves to recover documents–hoping for someone to flinch.

I sincerely hope Mar-a-lago security swept the residence for bugs after, because i cab think of no other purpose to extensively search Melania’s and Barron’s bedrooms.

This is why Dan Bongino was so angry. LINK HE KNOWS and TAUGHT the protocols.

THIS is the law Dan should have brought up. It gives SS the PRIORITY in such a situation and therefore the FBI had to ASK permission of the SS and the FBI certainly WAS NOT ALLOWED TO BRING GUNS as Dan pointed out.

    18 U.S. Code § 1752 – Restricted building or grounds

(c)In this section—(1)the term 👉“restricted buildings or grounds” means any posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area— [like the private living quarters or SCIF of POTUS Trump.]

    (A)of the White House or its grounds, or the Vice President’s official residence or its grounds;

“Islamic Leader Declares Muslim Domination of U.S. Politics Imminent — Vows to ‘Rule’ America from Congress to White House”

Osama Siblani, a prominent Arab-American community leader and publisher, announced that Muslims are poised to take control of key political positions across the United States, including the Congress and the White House.

    Excerpts:

During his speech earlier this month at a dinner honoring former Lebanese security chief Abbas Ibrahim, who has known for ties with Hezbollah, Siblani said,

”We have the best we can offer to the United States of America – not only in Michigan but across the country– and we [have] offered our best… The best is yet to come. I can be very confident to tell you that we are on the road to the White House, to Congress, to decision-making everywhere in the United States,” he said.

Radical Muslim activist Tarek Bazzi spoke to Muslims in Dearborn.

Tarek Bazzi: We’ve been asked in the past, why are our protests on the international Day of Quds, why are they so anti-American? Why don’t we just focus more on Israel and not talk so much about America?

Gaza has shown the entire world why these protests are so anti-American. Because it’s the United States government that provides the funds for all of the atrocities that we just heard about.

This is why Imam Khomeini, who declared the International Day of Quds, this is why he would say to pour all of your chants and all of your shouts upon the head of America!

    1. This might help a little bit….

Just The News: “Federal Judge Aileen Cannon on Tuesday denied Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith’s request to impose a gag order against former President Donald Trump in his federal classified documents case.

She said that Smith’s request was “wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy.” Cannon warned Smith that “failure to comply” with the requirements she has outlined for “non-emergency motions” could result in sanctions.

Trump is already under a gag order in another criminal trial, the ongoing one in a Manhattan courtroom in which he faces 34 counts related to allegedly trying in 2016 to falsify business documents for a hush money payment to porn start Stormy Daniels for alleged sexual encounter about 11 years earlier, to prevent the matter from interfering with his ultimately successful bid to become president.

In the classified documents case, Smith asked Cannon on Friday to limit the comments Trump could make about the law enforcement officers who searched his Mar-a-Lago resort, in search of classified documents from his presidency.

The former president faces allegations that he illegally retained national defense information, that he took part in a conspiracy to obstruct justice, and that he made false statements, according to Yahoo News.

Trump’s trial was initially scheduled to begin this month. However, Cannon on May 7 postponed the trial indefinitely, saying  the original date didn’t work because of the number of remaining pre-trial motions, the news outlet also reports.”

Paul Ingrassia: 12:49 PM: BREAKING: BLANCHE RAPS UP REMARKS — [Trump attorney] Todd Blanche has so far been extremely thorough in his summation…He restated time and again, reinforcing his argument with countless examples, of why Cohen is a liar, seeking every opportunity to benefit himself financially and professionally. “He is the human embodiment of reasonable doubt.” Blanche said “Cohen is the GLOAT: the Greatest Liar of All Time.” Stellar job driving that point home: He also explained how these allegedly erroneous filings were made while Trump was President, not before the 2016 race. And so it was impossible that these filings had any fraudulent intent, let alone had anything to do with affecting the results of the 2016 election. He explained cogently that any campaign is a “conspiracy” to win an election. However, Trump had no knowledge about these filings. In any event, there’s absolutely nothing fraudulent or criminal about marking legal expenses for what they are, namely, legal expenses. He also explained how the other alleged crimes linked to the alleged record keeping error — tax fraud, FEC violation, and a books and records crime have absolutely no basis. Trump accurately reported this filing to the IRS, to a government ethics office, and on social media platforms like Twitter. “This is a very easy non guilty verdict,” Blanche ends his scorching closing statement. President Trump should be proud of Todd Blanch’s terrific work this morning.

Paul Ingrassia: 12:51 PM: BREAKING: Prosecutor griping over Blanche saying President Trump shouldn’t be sent to prison over the non-crime that is the basis for this cases Bragg’s prosecutors are visibly fuming over Blanche’s very effective, logical summation. They are currently appealing to Merchan to have Blanche’s comment stricken from the record.

Paul Ingrassia: 12:53 PM: Merchan is IRATE now that Blanche made a quip about the Prosecution wanting to sentence President Trump! Merchan: Let me hear your comment about prison. Blanche: (Inaudible) Merchan: I think that statement was outrageous Mr. Blanche. A comment like that is highly inappropriate and simply not allowed, period! It’s hard for me to grapple that that comment was accidental in anyway!

Paul Ingrassia: 12:56 PM: BREAKING: Let me get this straight: so it’s fine for Merchan to toss Trump in jail every single day for violating his ridiculous gag order, but when Blanche makes reference to Trump going to jail, he enters into a nervous meltdown, admonishes Blanche, and screams at the top of his lungs “YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN TO MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THAT IN MY COURTROOM!”

REPORT: Secret Service Has Met With Local Jail Officials to Discuss Preparations for President Trump to Go Behind Bars

…What is possibly even more alarming is that corrections officers will be responsible for protecting agents assigned to Trump. Recall what that Jeffrey Epstein died under suspicious circumstances after guards were assigned to watch and stop him from getting killed.

This means that Trump being thrown behind bars will put his life at stake, a fever dream for Democrats and Never-Trumpers.

No doubt the SS prepares for any contingency, including possible jail time.

If Trump were convicted, would he be incarcerated immediately, even while appealing?

  10. Just The News: “The Democratic National Committee plans to nominate President Joe Biden virtually before the party convention amid the Ohio state legislature’s deadlock over a bill that would allow him to appear on the November ballot.

The Democratic National Convention, where the party usually chooses its nominee, is scheduled for Aug. 19-22. However, Ohio’s deadline for political parties to certify their nominee is 90 days before the general election, which is Aug. 7 this year.

On Tuesday, DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison announced that a virtual roll call will be held by the party to ensure Biden is on the ballot in all 50 states, The Hill reported. “Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree,” Harrison said. “But when the time has come for action, they have failed to act every time, so Democrats will land this plane on our own.”

“Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy through incompetence or partisan tricks and that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice,” he continued.

In an initial attempt to ensure Biden would be on the November ballot, both the Ohio House and Senate introduced separate bills to make the nominee certification deadline more flexible, but the latter included a prohibition of foreign funds for state ballot measure campaigns, NBC News reported. The House adjourned without considering either its own or the Senate’s bill.

Last week, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) warned the state Democratic Party that Biden would not be on the ballot in the November election unless the party’s nomination date was changed to comply with state law.

On Thursday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) called a special session of the General Assembly to pass legislation to ensure Biden would be on the November ballot for the general election. The special session began Tuesday.

Alabama had a similar issue with its ballot access deadline, and the Republican-led state legislature passed a bill earlier this month to ensure Biden would be on the state’s ballot, which the governor signed into law.

Washington state also had a ballot deadline issue but told the DNC that it could be resolved if the party submitted a provisional certification of nomination by Aug. 20, ABC News reported.”

Exclusive: I accuse United States Senator Tammy Baldwin of criminally laundering $27,850,750 into her campaigns since 2017, including the current one. She is committing illegal Smurfing, i.e. structured money laundering. We have documented this in extreme detail using state and federal government data. Baldwin has numerous campaign committees, PACS, and other sources funding her campaigns. This is pure election fraud by Baldwin and all those participating with her. She is stealing from the elderly their identities to use in laundering money into her campaign. Baldwin is committing identity theft and elderly financial abuse. One specific example is Baldwin using the name of a real person called Sonia (so are many other liberals using this same person), where Sonia has been making 69,433 contributions since 2017. This means Sonia – who is in assisted living, as confirmed by her daughter – has made 7.5 contributions per day on average, every day of the year, for 7.5 years. But, Sonia did not make these contributions. It was ActBlue and its former corrupt founders Ben Rahn, Matt DeBergalis and Jonathan Zucker. Zucker is now running the very corrupt Democracy Engine – a PAC also committing Smurfing on a massive scale to fund liberal campaigns. Joe Biden is protecting this entire racket, and yes his campaign is into smurfing big time. Late last year Biden put Dara Lindenbaum on as a Commissioner of the FEC (federal election commission overseas campaign finance). Not long after we broke the whole smurfing scheme with James O’Keefe. Dara was an attorney on Stacy Abrams campaign, the Abrams campaign was into Smurfing big time. This is all election fraud, on a massive scale. This is why campaigns have skyrocketed in spending to unreal heights. The money is coming in from China, from the US Treasury and other unlawful places. Yet no attorney or law enforcement will step up to bring justice.

“On May 3, two Jordanian nationals who were here illegally attempted to enter a Marine base in Virginia. Both were arrested. We’ve just learned that something else happened on May 3: Two Chechen nationals who were here illegally were caught skulking around the home of a special forces Army officer. The officer killed one. The other was arrested…and released. Ian Fleming wrote in Goldfinger, “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time is enemy action.” Call me cynical and paranoid, but I’m going to assume that we’re long past happenstance and that what happened on May 3 may well have been enemy action.

However, the way I see it, it’s a little more complicated than that. You see, despite the Russian-language phones, when I think of Chechnya, I think “Islam.” That’s because 95% of the population practices Sunni Islam. When I combine that with Jordanians in Virginia, I wonder if we’re looking not at Russian reprisals but at jihadist action.”
