Today would have been Jeffrey Dahmer’s birthday. The serial killer was murdered in prison.

I was going to bring an expose on his life and crimes, but reading about his atrocities made me sick to my stomach. He was born on this day and his death befitted his crime. Enough said
The remainder of this post will be kittens, puppies, and baby animals.

Morning, Pat! We’ve had tons of rain overnight and high winds – I brought all the feeders and plants in last night so I was prepared at least. Only at 56 right now; the rain has stopped but not the wind. I can see all kinds of bark from the cottonwood tree in my yard again…..sigh….at least it isn’t branches/limbs coming down. There is another even bigger storm coming later in the day, altho it will affect those to the south and in IA more than my area. A lot of tornado/hail warnings for SE NE and IA.
All you smell at the front of my house is the Lily of the Valley – sooooo delicious!!! I sure wish they lasted longer! Wheezer was sleeping on the patio apparently – when I opened the patio doors to get my duck boots to bring in my trash bin, he had just gotten up, stretched and walked over and sat in front of his food dish. This time he didn’t immediately run away but stayed to eat.

Yep – in fact, the wind finally dropped enough that I could at least put the feeders out – the Orioles were flocking! I saw 6 birds at one time on the jelly feeder late yesterday – 5 Orioles and 1 Finch! But I’m not putting any plants back out yet. It’s easier to run out and grab the feeders if I need to.

good article about the way government had bloated itself and without accountability has metastasized into the blob
FTA
With all that accountability, how did our government reach a point where:
An agency founded to promote clean air and water (EPA) is addressing bovine flatulence?
An organization created to stamp out malaria by spraying mosquitoes (CDC) has dictated an eviction moratorium and is promoting gun control?
A law enforcement bureau (FBI) is instigating crimes to solve them?
An agency intended to gather information about national security threats (CIA) is using foreign intelligence assets to spy on a political party?
Those things and more are happening because our government has managed to break our systems of accountability, allowing radicals and miscreants to run wild. Whistleblowers are no longer protected by the DoJ. Criminal referrals from IGs are not prosecuted by the DoJ (e.g., Lois Lerner and Andrew McCabe). Congressional oversight is powerless without DoJ enforcement. (When Congress referred Eric Holder for prosecution, Attorney General Eric Holder declined to prosecute Eric Holder.) Political oversight of the bureaucracy fails when the swamp has more power than the elected leadership — as Chuck Schumer warned that it does. Voter oversight is undercut by DoJ collaboration with the media to promote propaganda and filing lawsuits against states to prevent fraud-proofing our election processes.
When Eric Holder declared himself Barack Obama’s “wingman,” he effectively redirected the DoJ from “equal justice under law,” to “guarding the six” of its political benefactors. The resulting corruption at the DoJ has undermined the systems of accountability throughout our government. Problems can be detected, but they are rarely corrected. Nobody serving the bureaucracy suffers the consequences of breaking the law.
Countless essays have examined the forces working to corrupt our government:
The communist march through our institutions,
Ill-advised social justice pursuits,
Mission creep in response to emerging global conditions, and
Political polarization of the electorate.
But those corrupting influences were only effective because the systems of accountability no longer keep our ship on state on its intended heading. Federal employees (2.9 million of them) aren’t held accountable for serving the needs of the citizens. Instead, they are focused on increasing the size and power of the federal government.
The federal government cannot be trusted to correct itself. Its solution to every issue is more government — rarely disciplinary action. When our national security apparatus failed us in the days before 9/11, nobody was fired for missing the clues. The federal government addressed the problem by creating the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and massively expanding the power of government. Yet now, we’re funding and equipping terrorist organizations and military-aged males on the terrorist watchlist are crossing our border daily — with permission.
The DHS didn’t improve our national security because it, like other departments, isn’t held accountable for serving us rather than the bureaucracy. Violations of the public trust — and even the law — are easily detected, but the guilty rarely face consequences. Federal accountability is broken. An intervention is desperately needed.

“Dali: Ship that hit Baltimore bridge on the move again”
By Mike Wendling, BBC, 19 hours ago
Video
EXCERPT: “The ship that slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was re-floated on Monday after being stuck for nearly eight weeks. The Dali was moved by tugboats “under favourable environmental conditions,” according to the US Army Corps of Engineers. Moving the ship is the latest step in clearing key shipping routes.
The Dali crashed on 26 March, causing the bridge to collapse and killing six construction workers. The ship lost power before veering off course and striking the bridge. The collision sent around 4,000 tonnes of debris into the Patapsco River and trapped the boat. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The 948ft (289m) ship had remained at the scene and was covered in scrap metal from the bridge, until a controlled demolition last week cleared some of the debris.
The Army Corps of Engineers said that it would take around 21 hours to move the Dali to a nearby terminal. Doing so first required that ballast tanks aboard the ship – which had been filled with large amounts of water to prevent it from swaying – be emptied, allowing the Dali to rise from the floor of Maryland’s Patapsco river.
At high tide around 0700 EST (1200 BST), five tugboats and several other vessels began moving the newly re-floated Dali 2.5 miles (4km) to a nearby marine terminal. Debris and parts of roadway are still clearly visible atop the ship, which remains heavily damaged.
Officials have previously said that the ship is expected to remain at the terminal for four to six weeks before being moved to Norfolk, Virginia for further repairs.
With the ship moved out of the way, deep-draft commercial vessels are now able to use a 400ft (121m) wide, 50ft (15m) deep portion of the federal shipping channel to enter and exit the port of Baltimore, even as cranes and other equipment remain in place to clear additional debris.
The clearing work will continue until the shipping channel is restored to its original width of 700ft (213m) and all steel is removed from the riverbed….”

After the announcement, the prosecution, which rested its case on Monday, declined to call any rebuttal witnesses.
Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the trial, indicated that closing arguments would take place next Tuesday, following the Memorial Day holiday.
“I’ve considered all the permutation … at the end of the day, I think the best thing that we can do is to adjourn now until next Tuesday. At that time you will hear summations from the attorneys. Probably Wednesday I’ll ask you to come in … hear jury charge and then I would expect that you will begin your deliberations hopefully at some point on Wednesday,” Merchan told the jury on Tuesday, according to CNN.
After the closing arguments, the 12-person jury will begin deliberation and must come to a unanimous decision.”

The White House is once again walking back statements and actually changing the official transcript of the speech FJB gave at the NAACP dinner. This is after his horrific commencement speech at Morehouse College in which he told black graduates that “Democracy” has been terrible for Black Americans. Quite frankly, his speech at Moorehouse was spot on. “Their Democracy” has been terrible for ALL Americans. It’s time to get away from “their democracy” and back to our Constitutional Republic.
“White House Issues NINE Corrections to Biden’s NAACP Speech”
The White House has had to issue nine corrections to the official transcript of Joe Biden’s speech at the annual NAACP dinner in Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday.
Excerpts:The official transcript was edited for both factual and pronunciation errors.
The first correction came early in the speech when Biden referred to a “pandemic” while he was Barack Obama’s vice president. The White House edited it to say “recession.”
On my watch, more Black Americans have health insurance than ever in all of history. I protected and expanded the Affordable Care Act, saving millions of families $800,000 in prem- — $8,000 in — a year in premiums,” Biden babbled. This glaring factual error was corrected to say $800
Biden continued, “We have more African-American, we have more women, we have more minorities in our administration than any other administration in all of history. That’s why we’re doing so damn well.”
Hmmm
That Press Secretary is doing a bang up job.

National Pulse: “Alec Baldwin Seeking Dismissal of Involuntary Manslaughter Charge.”
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “A New Mexico judge is set to consider Alec Baldwin’s request to dismiss the grand jury indictment against him for involuntary manslaughter relating to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The hearing will be held on Friday. Hutchins was fatally shot during filming for the movie “Rust” on a film set near Santa Fe on October 21, 2021.
Baldwin, who served as lead actor and co-producer on the Western film, has pleaded not guilty. His legal team argues that the prosecution mishandled the grand jury process, neglecting to present exculpatory evidence and relevant witness testimonies. If convicted on the involuntary manslaughter charge, Baldwin could face up to one and a half years in prison.
The incident occurred during a rehearsal when Baldwin pointed a firearm at Hutchins. The revolver discharged, killing Hutchins and injuring the film’s director, Joel Souza. Baldwin maintains that he pulled back the hammer of the gun but did not pull the trigger. His legal team claims that the grand jury was misled by inaccurate and biased testimony regarding the condition of the firearm.
Prosecutors, however, contend proper protocols were followed during grand jury proceedings. Instead, they say that Baldwin’s motion to dismiss is a “shameless” attempt to escape responsibility for Hutchins’s death. The prosecutors point to contradictory statements made by the liberal actor to law enforcement, workplace safety regulators, and during media interviews in the aftermath of the shooting.
In April, the film’s weapons supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced to a year and a half in prison on an involuntary manslaughter conviction for the cinematographer’s death. Safety coordinator Dave Halls pleaded no contest to negligent handling of a firearm last year and was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation.”

“Note to Readers: That Eerie Silence — Getcha popcorn ready.”
MATT TAIBBI, MAY 21, 2024
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Racket readers may have noticed it’s been a bit quiet in here of late. That’s because I’ve been spending the last few weeks on an investigative series in cooperation with another site. What seemed like a cut-and-dried report turned into a bit of a rabbit hole on us; hence the delay.
When I first started publishing the Twitter Files in 2022-2023 along with Michael Shellenberger, Bari Weiss, Lee Fang, David Zweig, Paul Thacker, and others, there was an emphasis on speed. Once we saw phrases like “flagged by DHS,” I knew the project was temporary, and guessed we’d probably need to stay ahead of the news cycle in order to avoid seeing material drown in blowback. So, we set aside some explosive bigger-picture storylines to focus on things that could be confirmed and published quickly. There were also topics we didn’t fully understand at the time.
Some of those broader stories will begin coming out now, hopefully starting this week. There’s a reason for working back through this material now. Sources tell me at least two different active groups are working on political content moderation programs for the November election that tactically would go a step or two beyond what we observed with groups like Stanford’s Election Integrity Partnership, proposing not just deamplification or removals, but fakery, use of bots, and other “offensive” forms of manipulation.
If the recent rush of news stories about the horror of foreign-inspired AI deepfakes (“No one can stop them,” gasps the Washington Post) creating intolerable risk to the coming “AI election” sounds a bit off to you, you’re not alone. This is one of many potential threats pro-censorship groups are playing up in hopes of deploying more aggressive “counter-messaging” tools. Some early proposals along those lines are in the unpublished Twitter Files documents we’ve been working on. Again, more on this topic soon.
Also: beginning around the time we published the “Report on the Censorship-Industrial Complex,” Racket in partnership with UndeadFOIA began issuing Freedom of Information requests in bulk. The goal was to identify inexcusably secret contractors of content-policing agencies like the State Department’s Global Engagement Center. The FOIA system is designed to exhaust citizens, but our idea was to match the irritating resolve of FOIA officers by pre-committing resources for inevitable court disputes, fights over production costs, etc. Thanks to UndeadFOIA’s great work, we now have a sizable library of documents about publicly-funded censorship programs (and a few private ones scooped up in official correspondence).
We’ll be releasing those, too, focusing on a few emails per batch, and publishing the rest in bulk. There’s so much material that a quick global summary here would be difficult, but suffice to say that the anti-disinformation/content control world is much bigger than I thought, enjoying cancer-like growth on campuses in particular, in the same way military research became primary sources of grants and took over universities in the fifties and sixties. Some of these FOIA documents are damning, some entertaining, some just interesting, but all of them belong to the public. We’re going to start the process of turning them over, hopefully today.
In any case, thanks to Racket readers for their patience. I’m very appreciative of the commitment every subscriber makes, especially in this narrowing media environment, which is why I want to make sure readers understand what’s usually going on when things go dark around here. My idea of a vacation is one or two days. If you don’t hear from me for six, I’m working on something. Back soon, and thanks again.”

FBI Authorized Use of Deadly Force During Mar-a-Lago RaidNewly unsealed documents in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s espionage case against Donald Trump demonstrate the FBI’s plans to use deadly force–even if the former president arrived at the scene.
JULIE KELLY, MAY 21, 2024
“An exhibit filed today by Donald Trump in a motion to suppress evidence seized during the FBI’s August 2022 raid of Mar-a-Lago revealed shocking new details about the bureau’s plans to use deadly force and even engage the former president and his security detail that day if necessary. The document is just one of many court filings recently ordered unsealed by Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over the matter in southern Florida.
In an August 3, 2022 operations order for “Plasmic Echo,” the FBI’s code name for the government’s investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of national defense material, FBI officials furnished instructions on to proceed with the unprecedented raid. “FBI [Washington Field Office] and FBI [Miami] agents and [Evidence Response Team] will effect a search of designated locations within Mar-a-Lago (MAL) to locate and seize classified information, NDI, and US Government records as described in captioned search warrant,” the document read.
The raid involved 25 Miami FBI agents, four Washington FBI agents, one unidentified individual from FBI Headquarters, one DOJ attorney, and the assistant U.S. Attorney from the Southern District of Florida.
But according to the operations order, law enforcement was not preparing a routine search for presidential papers. One section of the plan described how agents should handle the potential for use of deadly force:
The FBI also considered various scenarios should the former president unexpectedly arrive at his residence during the raid. Agents were also prepared to go door-to-door to terrorize Mar-a-Lago guests if staff refused to turn over room keys:
In addition to lock-picking equipment, FBI agents were armed with “Standard Issue Weapon, Ammo, [and] Handcuffs” as well as “medium and large sized bolt cutters.”
Perhaps most shockingly, the FBI team included a medic to tend to anyone “injured” during the raid. The operations order identified a nearby trauma center with directions how to get there:
Additional exhibits in the unsealed motion today also indicate agents ransacked the bedrooms of Melania and Barron Trump
.The head of the Washington FBI Field Office at the time was Steven D’Antuono. In addition to spearheading the criminal investigation into the events of January 6, which included his inability to identify and charge the so-called pipe bomber, D’Antuono led the Detroit FBI Field office in 2020 when the FBI manufactured an entrapment scheme to make it appear that Trump supporters plotted to kidnap and kill Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020. D’Antuono retired in November 2022.
Attorney General Merrick Garland approved the FBI raid of Mar-a-Lago.”

Medics pronounced Chorman dead at the scene. The cow moose left the area, Alaska State Troopers said in an online post. In 1995, a moose stomped a 71-year-old man to death when he was trying to enter a building on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Witnesses said students had been throwing snowballs and harassing the moose and its calf for hours, and the animals were agitated when the man tried to walk past them.”
