    Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I came down this morning to see 2 hummers and 2 orioles on the deck railings. the hummers we on the front railings–very far apart and the orioles were on the side deck railings–both males–also far apart. I took the hummer feeders out first…and they flew right to them. the orioles just scolded till i got the jelly feeder out…lol

it is CHILLY out there tho…only 40* and damp at the moment.

    1. Morning, Pat! Demanding little shits, aren’t they??? LOL – 41 here so, yeah, a little nipply! Clear skies and sunshine, tho – looking like a pretty nice day. Wheezer ate during the night – no birds yet this morning. My Trump 2024 flag is flying again!

I plan on getting my cantaloupe seeds in today. I gave Michael a cantaloupe last year – he was stunned at the difference in flavor – and explained how to save the seeds; now he has gotten the planting bug. He called me yesterday for advice on the best way to go about it.

He lives right off the highway, across from the Cowboy Trail, with open fields behind him and trees on both sides, so he has to guard against the wild critters. He has an old 4′ water tank with the bottom all busted out that he’s going to fill with soil and wanted advice on placement, such as the benefits of morning vs. afternoon sun. All-day sun is best.

Since it’s raised off the ground, he won’t have to worry about rabbits. I’ll have to warn him about the feral cats using it as a litter box – some netting over the top should take care of that.

We also discussed me taking a ride with him on his new M/C. He still has his wife’s helmet, body suit w/armor plating, and riding boots and said he thinks it will fit me. Might be a little big but we’ll see.

      1. Morning Filly!
looks like we’ll have rain today–cloudy and damp outside. Mom always said that about any home grown vegetables or fruit–the taste is so much better than bought.
that’s kind of cool that you’re influencing Michael! I would definitely go on the ride!!
we’ve been discussing trading our motorcycle in on a tryke–more stability at this stage in our lives. we’ll see…

  3. so students at these colleges where protests occur don’t believe there were “outside agitators” …but his one student has direct knowledge.

    FTA

“I really struggle a lot with the whole narrative of outside agitators because I see it as a means through which to justify violence,” Soph Askanse, a junior at the neighboring Barnard College,  said in an interview. “And to claim that because individuals are not students, they are thus deserving of police brutality.”

Rory Wilson, 22, a Columbia senior who did not participate in the protests, offered a different take.

After midnight on Tuesday, Wilson and a friend placed themselves outside a Hamilton Hall door for several minutes to prevent the protesters from barricading it shut. Video footage released by the city showed a 63-year-old activist named Lisa Fithian at the center of the action, directing the protesters on how to barricade the doors and referring to Wilson and his friend as “assholes.”

“She was right in the middle of it, instructing them how to better set up the barricades,” said Wilson, who has Jewish heritage but is not a practicing Jew. “Given that the barricades were a pretty central part of the plan of how to take over Hamilton, I’d expect that she would have been pretty central in the logistics planning.”

Fithian, who has not responded to requests for comment, was not among those arrested on Tuesday.

    1. The jock on the Japanese horse should have filed a foul claim, especially considering the close finish. It is generally filed as soon as he gets off the horse, at or before the post-race weighing in. Sierra Leone was lugging in all down the stretch, bumping Forever Young 3-4 times – FY’s jockey even lost his whip – it got knocked out of his hand as he was trying to avoid hitting SL. It’s up to the jockey to make the claim but, for whatever reason, he chose not to. They need to use a heavier lugging bit on that horse.

“The most common type of lugging bit is the traditional snaffle bit, which has two metal rings that fit together to form one piece. Other types of lugging bits include the eggbutt bit, the full cheek bit, and the Dee bit.”

      https://www.winnerswire.com/what-does-a-lugging-bit-do-for-a-racehorse/

      Full cheek snaffle bit:

      Eggbutt snaffle:

If a foul claim is upheld by the Stewards: The horse will lose their position and the trainer will be fined; the jockey will be fined as well and possibly set down for a period of time. IOW, not be allowed to ride or even be present at the track – there are varying degrees, depending on how serious or blatant the action was – IOW, Sierra Leone would have gone to 3rd or –depending on the severity – all the way to the back of the field. There are bigger punishments for bigger infractions.

The Stewards make any such decision after reviewing the video of the race – they can call it themselves but if it’s THAT blatant and egregious, the jockey would have already claimed the foul. If the horse does it bad enough and often enough, they can “rule him off the track.” Generally, that only applies to that particular track; if it’s bad enough, he could be banned from running at all tracks.

  4. awwwwww…cry harder. suspended students and faculty filed a lawsuit to have their suspensions lifted and a judge said no. they claimed their 1st amendment rights were violated.

    FTA

A judge in Arizona has rejected a motion to lift the suspension of twenty students arrested during anti-Israel protests at Arizona State University (ASU). The U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona denied the students’ request on Friday, as reported by local outlet ABC 15.

The defendants, who filed a lawsuit against the Arizona Board of Regents, argued that their suspension from ASU was causing “irreparable harm” by preventing them from enrolling in classes. They also claimed that the suspensions violated their First Amendment rights.

Approximately 72 individuals, including both students and faculty, were arrested on Apr. 26 and taken into custody for continuing protests on the ASU campus. The Old Main lawn area was cleared overnight by police officers.

  5. these “kids” are definitely out of control…wanting to hang college administrators? chop off their heads? sounds like terroristic threats and these students should be arrested. if the colleges do nothing and someone DOES get hurt–it’s all on them.

At the George Washington University Gaza Solidarity Encampment today, the protesters held a “People’s Tribunal” where they put President Ellen Granberg, Provost Christopher Bracey, the Board of Trustees, @GWPolice
, and many others on trial.

Is it normal for students to want to hang their provost and chop the heads off of the Board of Trustees?

    “Guillotine, Guillotine, Guillotine, Guillotine”

“Bracey, Bracey, we see you. You assault students too. Off to the motherfucking gallows with you.”

“As you already know where I am sending her [to the guillotine], her and her fuckass bob.”

    When will @GWtweets
finally do something? If the students hurt any of these people in any way, the university will be completely at fault.

  6. Just The News: “Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg called former President Donald Trump’s then-communications aide, Hope Hicks, to the witness stand in the so-called hush money trial in which she offered testimony that may have actually benefited the 45th president.

Trump’s attorneys argued that his motivation to silence the accounts of former Playboy model Karen McDougal and porn star Stormy Daniels wasn’t to help his 2016 campaign, but rather to protect his family, specifically former First Lady Melania Trump, according to Politico. Both women claimed that they have had sexual encounters with the former president.

When Hicks took the stand, she took the position that while Trump preferred that the Stormy Daniels story came out after the election instead of before, his main interest in keeping these allegations buried was to shield Melania from hearing about it.

“Absolutely…I don’t think he wanted anyone in his family to be hurt or embarrassed about anything on the campaign. He wanted them to be proud of him,” she said, according to Fox News.

Bragg has claimed that Trump paid Daniels to be quiet to benefit his campaign, resulting in allegations that he was unlawfully attempting to influence the election.

“President Trump really values Mrs. Trump’s opinion, and she doesn’t weigh in all the time, but when she does it’s really meaningful to him,” Hicks said, arguing that Trump’s main concern was Melania.”

  7. I got holes drilled in the bottom of my buckets to put over the cantaloupe hills. I didn’t have a drill last year so I just used an ice pick but the holes were too small to let in enough rain/water. Now they are! I’m all prepared to attempt to put up the feeder pole with the slinky on it – especially since I had to chase that bitch off the seed feeder 10 minutes ago! It’s going out on that pole with the WP seed block but it’s still a bit nipply outside, with the wind picking up now.

I’ll wait a bit but I’ve got all the parts and pieces ready on the patio, with my new tilling fork. Now that I see the tilling fork, I can see the difference from the old potato fork: the tilling fork has slender tines with a very sharp point whereas the potato fork has much wider tines and a blunt bottom so as not to pierce the potatoes as readily.

I’ve decided to p/u a cheap exterior patio door – the bungee holding the door closed is ok thru the winter but waaaay to much of a PITA in the summer. I’ll have Jason install it for me and he can moved those danged huge barrels while he’s at it!

University presidents everywhere need to embrace this simple statement by Ben Sasse, President of the University of Florida:

“At the University of Florida, we have repeatedly, patiently explained two things to protesters: We will always defend your rights to free speech and free assembly—but if you cross the line on clearly prohibited activities, you will be thrown off campus and suspended. In Gainesville, that means a three-year prohibition from campus. That’s serious. We said it. We meant it. We enforced it. We wish we didn’t have to, but the students weighed the costs, made their decisions, and will own the consequences as adults. We’re a university, not a daycare. We don’t coddle emotions, we wrestle with ideas.”

  10. Good grief, was that ever hard work! Sheesh! There is gravel/stones underneath my lawn next to the driveway at least 1′ deep! I had to dig and dig and dig to get deep enough that I could put the feeder pole in the ground. I finally had to get a chisel and hammer it into the ground to make clearance for the pole, and hammer the pole itself until it was deep enough. But it’s done now, with the slinky attached, and both feeders hanging on it. Try to get to it NOW, bitch squirrel!!!

I also pulled all the grass in my north garden bed, as well as the weeds outside the bed and in the asparagus bed – no more seed feeders over the garden beds! I may have to grab another packet of CA Poppies to fill in since I most likely pulled a lot of them up too. Planted the purple petunias out in front. Asparagus is up and all 4 Honeysuckle vines are popping. The SE one is a slightly different style and always takes longer but it’s showing new leaves finally.

Those plant hangers I bought work beautifully! Lift the basket slightly to release it, pull it down to waist-height and water, then push it back up! Easy-peasy! Another PCH purchase that worked out well!

I’ve got to take a break before I tackle planting the cantaloupe seeds….

  11. all this talk about mail in ballots…and then this…USPS employees stealing mail

    FTA

In New Orleans, more than a few U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employees have stolen mail to enrich themselves.

Unfortunately, this is part of a nationwide pattern.

Theft among postal workers is pervasive. So much so that staff at the USPS Office of Inspector General’s (USPS-OIG) office announced last month they will audit whether postal managers are doing enough to stop it. They plan to publish that report in September.

Among only a few recent alleged or confirmed examples of mail theft in the greater New Orleans area:

    • In March, the Department of Justice indicted Gretna resident and USPS employee Randy Brown Jr., on four-counts, including unlawful delay of the U.S. Mail by a postal employee. Brown allegedly stole and embezzled other people’s checks.

RELATED: Above New Orleans, Spirit Airlines Flight Attendant Made This Shocking Remark

    • Also in March, U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance sentenced New Orleans resident Coi Morris for stealing items from the mail he was entrusted to handle as a postal employee. Morris worked as a mail handler at the processing center in New Orleans when he was apprehended.

    • Kenner resident David Rayford was indicted last month on mail theft charges. Rayford allegedly stole a greeting card that contained a Visa Gift Card and $100.00 cash.

    • In March, New Orleans resident Timothy McMillan, Jr. pleaded guilty to Theft of Mail by a Postal Service employee. USPS-OIG officials received complaints that the New Orleans Main Office Delivery Unit had delivered open parcels. USPS-OIG Special Agents placed a greeting card containing $100 in the mail for McMillan to process and deliver on his route. The card was addressed to a fictitious person and address from another fictitious person and address. McMillan opened the package. Shortly after, USPS-OIG Special Agents stopped his vehicle and observed the opened card in the rear of his vehicle and found marked bills on him.

For each person, a conviction on these charges can bring between three to five years in prison.

As RVIVR reported last year, former USPS employee Dazmon Dyer pleaded guilty in federal court to delaying and stealing the U.S. mail.

In June a USPS clerk in Maryland used her position to obtain other people’s private information. She then stole thousands of dollars.

  13. NF: IMO, I think the tech industry will be the most directly affected industry because of AI.

“An Absolutely Enormous Economic Shift Of Historic Proportions Is Now Taking Place Right In Front Of Our Eyes”

    May 1, 2024 by Michael

EXCERPT: “Can you feel it too?  Over the past few weeks, I have heard from so many readers that are deeply troubled about economic conditions where they live.  In some cases, sales are way down.  In other cases, it seems almost impossible to find a decent job.  It is almost as if a tremendous chill descended upon the U.S. economy as the second quarter of 2024 began.  Yes, economic conditions have certainly not been good for a few years, but it appears that an absolutely enormous economic shift of historic proportions is now taking place right in front of our eyes.  Other than the early stages of the pandemic, we haven’t seen anything like this since 2008 and 2009.

Let me give you an example that will illustrate what I am talking about.  A reader that lives near Seattle recently wrote me about the horrible downturn that she is witnessing in the tech industry, and she said that I could share this information with all of you…

I live in the tech corridor outside of Seattle and practically no one can find a job in tech. Apparently the costs of AI processors and servers are so expensive that large tech companies are laying off workers to accommodate for the increased infrastructure costs. I would estimate that 50 percent of the people I know in tech are unemployed including myself and my spouse. In addition they are laying off both FTEs and contractors and not backfilling the positions. The problem is exacerbated if you’re over 40 because they don’t want to compensate for experience. In fact experience seems to be working against people. Not to mention AI taking over roles like technical writing and marketing communications. It’s getting really bad out there and the large companies play along with the media. I’ve met with several ex colleagues who have had their entire teams laid off and former FTEs who have had to take major pay cuts as contractors. I’ve also heard of more rounds of layoffs coming up. I went over to Microsoft the other morning to have coffee with an ex colleague and it’s a ghost town. No one in conference rooms or offices. Maybe people are working from home but it sure felt very different.

That email resonated with me so strongly, because she is right. Vast hordes of tech workers have already been laid off, and more will be hitting the bricks soon. But the tech industry is supposed to be one of our economic bright spots.

If things are this bad for the tech industry, what does this say about the economy as a whole? …..”

  15. Aaaannnd, Citizens United comes back to bite us on the ass yet again!!!

National Pulse: “Loony Left Media: Animals Should Be Considered ‘Legal Persons’”

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The left-wing media is now arguing that animals should be considered legal persons and that the “violence” of so-called “ecocide” should be a punishable offense in international law and civil and criminal codes. Writing in the far-left magazine The New Republic, Lydia Millet argues that the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United offers the legal precedent to enact such laws.

“Both domestically and internationally, species and ecosystems need to be endowed with legal standing to give local and native stewards the tools to save them from the depredations of industry in the short term and sustain them over the long,” writes Millet. “Accountability for the violence of what some call ‘ecocide’ should be embedded in international law and civil and criminal codes.”

“Luckily, bestowing legal standing on extra-human parties isn’t a fanciful idea,” she writes. “The U.S. Supreme Court did exactly that in the 2010 case known as Citizens United, when it declared that corporations were legal persons—a decision that hobbled American democracy but also set a neat precedent for extending legal personhood to nonhuman entities. And corporations are clearly more abstract and disembodied than animals.”

    A GLOBAL MOVEMENT?

Millet also points to the fact that other nations have begun classifying nature and animals as legal persons.

“In New Zealand, a river and a rainforest have been awarded personhood; the people of Ecuador, in 2008, voted to modify their Constitution to recognize the right of nature to exist and flourish; in the United States, the Yurok tribe gave personhood to the Klamath River under tribal law in 2019; and in 2010 Pittsburgh became the first major city to recognize the rights of nature. Those rights have also been enacted into law or invoked by courts in Bolivia, Panama, and India.”

What Millet fails to address is the inevitable implications of declaring animals and natural geographic features legal persons that could have catastrophic effects on human society. Were such blanket measures enacted, hunting, fishing, and farming as we know it might all become illegal. Indeed, current efforts by the Biden regime to “protect” the environment using already available means are predicted to impact energy costs dramatically and will have dire consequences for Americans’ standard of living.

Observers may also note the inherent irony of The New Republic, which appears to publish at least one article per day in favor of the “right” to abortion, arguing that animals are entitled to legal personhood protections while actual baby persons are not.”
