While searching for something entirely different, I came across this article on How Stuff Works about some alternate uses for salt.
From How Stuff Works:
In the Garden
Kill poison ivy. A strong solution of saltwater can kill an infestation of poison ivy plants. Apply a mixture of 1 cup (236 milliliters) of salt with 1 gallon (3.7 liters) of soapy water to the leaves and stems with a garden sprayer.
Deter ants. Keep ants from congregating in your garden by sprinkling ordinary table salt in areas where ants tend to gather. This also works to keep ants from coming into your house. Sprinkle salt across the path where they’re coming in and they’ll be deterred from crossing.
Slug those slugs. Sprinkle slugs with a heavy dose of salt to kill them. Wait five minutes, then sprinkle them again.

Control cabbage worms. Cabbage worms eat garden cabbages, broccoli and cauliflower. To control them, dust their leaves with a mixture of 1 cup (239 milliliters) of flour and 1/2 cup (120 milliliters) of salt in in the morning or evening when they’re damp with dew.
Outdoor Gear
Deodorize canvas. Sprinkle salt inside musty-smelling canvas bags (or inside canvas shoes); zip up the bags and let them sit overnight. Dump out the salt the next day and let the bags air out.
Remove rust. Make a paste with 6 tablespoons of salt and 2 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice. Use a dry cloth to rub the paste on rusted bike handlebars, tire rims or other outdoor gear. Rinse and dry the areas thoroughly.
Health and Beauty
Exfoliate your skin. Salt makes a wonderful skin and/or face scrub. After you shower and while your skin is still moist, sprinkle salt onto your hands and rub it gently over your skin. The salt will remove dead skin and promote circulation. Sea salt is best.
Soothe itchy skin. Soaking in a tub of saltwater can be a great itchy skin reliever. Just add 1 cup (236 milliliters) table salt or sea salt to your bathwater to help soften your skin.

Cleanse and tone. Sea salt face toners are all the rage, but you can make your own by mixing 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon olive oil in a small bowl. Massage the mixture on your face and throat, being careful to avoid contact with your eyes. Follow by washing with your usual face soap.
Whiten your teeth. Don’t pay for expensive tooth whitener. Make your own with sea salt. It’s a natural abrasive, so it’s gentle at removing stains on your teeth. Just brush with it once a week.
Household Cleanup
Clear coffee stains. Add a mixture of 1 cup (236 milliliters) crushed ice, 1 tablespoon water and 4 teaspoons salt to your coffee pot and swirl the mixture. Rinse and wash as usual. Use the same method to get the stains out of your favorite coffee cups, too.
Deep clean oven and stove. Sticky spills are tough to remove from your oven and stovetop. Make it easier by sprinkling the spill with salt. Let it sit until the spill gets crisp and you can lift it with a spatula. You also can soak up liquid spills on the stovetop by sprinkling them with a mixture of salt and cinnamon. Leave it on the spill for about five minutes and then wipe away.
Sanitize the fridge. Just sprinkle equal amounts salt and baking soda on a damp sponge and wipe down the interior of your fridge.
Remove wine stains. Sprinkle kosher salt on the stain and let it sit for two or three minutes, then rinse with cold water.

Brighten your brass. Restore the shine to your brass and copper items by combining 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of flour with enough vinegar to form a paste. Rub the paste on any brass or copper piece and let it dry. Wash off with soapy water and buff to a shine with a microfiber cloth.
Erase watermarks. Make watermarks on wood disappear with a paste of 1 teaspoon salt and a few drops of water. Gently rub the paste onto the ring with a soft cloth until it’s gone. Follow up with a good furniture polish.

EXCERPT: “Michael Sanchez was setting up his new camera to capture a waterfall at Oregon’s Hug Point at sunrise when he spotted a little bird hopping around. He snapped a few photos, and didn’t think much more of it.
A week later, those snapshots have made him the star – and the envy – of the local birding community. Sanchez, who is from Vancouver, Washington, may have inadvertently captured the first images of an extremely rare blue rock-thrush in North America….”

Strange Sounds: “The “Patriot Front” is assumed by many to be undercover FEDs. Now, assume they are (probably the truth, but I have no evidence). What would they be signaling with all the upside-down flags?
Upside down flag means country in distress… It’s used in the military. If a fort or post is under attack or is in some other form of distress, they fly the flag upside down. So what are the freaking feds implying by flying the flag upside down?
My guess is to just sew more division in the country. Pretty much myself and a lot of my friends all know that the powers in charge are trying to pit us up against each other to distract us from the shitty and malicious tactics they are using to pull money out of our pockets and back into theirs…”

ABSOLUTE MADNESS: Monday evening, more than a hundred migrants invaded Seattle’s Central District and took over Powell Barnett Park, a popular play area for kids and dogs. There are now more than 30 tents set up on a grassy area and wooden pallets are scattered everywhere. Group leaders say they won’t leave until more money is provided for better living conditions. Sure sounds like extortion. The usual far-left activists were there to help orchestrate this massive move. Old friend Rosario Lopez Hernandez spotted me right away and chased me out of the encampment with a cardboard box. She’s facing charges for disrupting a Seattle council meeting in February. Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth and Mayor Bruce Harrell say there are no more city resources and state funds won’t be available for a few more months. So now what? I’m staying on top of this with

National Pulse, William Upton, Tuesday, April 30, 2024
“Trump: ‘I’d Consider Pardon for EVERY J6 Prisoner.’
Former President Donald J. Trump says he would consider a pardon for each of the January 6 defendants either currently imprisoned or being prosecuted by the Biden government. The former President made the commitment during a recent interview, lamenting what he sees as a ‘two-tier justice system.’
“[W]hen I look at Portland, when I look at Minneapolis, where they took over police precincts and everything else, and went after federal buildings, when I look at other situations that were violent, and where people were killed, nothing happened to them,” Trump said during an interview with TIME Magazine. He continued: “Nothing happened to them. I think it’s a two-tier system of justice. I think it’s a very, very sad thing.”
The former Republican President went on to note that the only individual who died as a direct result of the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol building was protestor Ashli Babbitt. Last November, the Black Lives Matter activist — John Sullivan, a.k.a Jayden X— who filmed Babbitt’s death inside the Capitol, was convicted for his role in inciting protestors to riot. The National Pulse previously reported in January that Babbitt’s family has filed a $30 million wrongful death lawsuit against Capitol Police Officer Lt. Michael Byrd.
Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA) recently claimed that his investigation into the events leading up to the January 6 riots suggests federal law enforcement may have played a more significant role in instigating the violence than previously stated. The Louisiana Republican said he’d uncovered evidence that federal agents were active in online chat groups with U.S. military veterans prior to their involvement in the protest that day.
Currently, the U.S. Supreme Court is weighing whether Biden’s Department of Justice has abused a financial crimes statute to enhance the felony ‘obstruction‘ charges against the rioters.”

“April Showers Rain on Jack Smith’s Lawfare Parade: A pair of discouraging Supreme Court hearings and a barrage of unsealed records in southern Florida just doused Jack Smith’s plans to prosecute Trump before Election Day.”
JULIE KELLY, APR 30, 2024
EXCERPT: “To hear NBC News reporter Laura Jarrett tell it, Special Counsel Jack Smith was downright jovial as he attended oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court last week. The nine justices were set to take up the question as to whether a former president is immune from criminal prosecution for his acts in office, a matter that originated out of Smith’s history-making indictment against Donald Trump for his alleged attempts to “overturn” the 2020 election.
“[Smith] was sitting at the counsel’s table, it was the first time I have seen him crack a smile, laughing, he was sort of jocular with this team,” Jarrett, daughter of longtime Obama whisperer Valerie Jarrett, enthusiastically swooned on MSNBC on April 25. “He was cracking jokes. Everyone sort of felt the weight of the moment but in that moment, Jack Smith was sort of, I think, trying to be as relaxed and cool as possible knowing that all eyes were on him.”
Suuure.
The special prosecutor may have put on a happy face for gullible reporters, but others admitted the proceedings signaled a fatal blow to Smith’s four-count obstruction and conspiracy indictment against Trump in Washington. Joshua Gerstein, legal affairs reporter for Politico, said “it had to be a dispiriting day” for Smith after a majority of justices express deep skepticism about the Department of Justice’s view that presidents can be exposed to criminal liability for their conduct in office.
Former federal judge and Trump antagonist Michael Luttig said he was “disturbed” by the court’s debate and unleashed a 19-post thread on X ranting about the proceedings.
Rubber room-worthy Laurence Tribe, a self-described Constitutional expert, lost (what is left of) his mind, frantically raging on X for days. Tribe accused Justice Samuel Alito of ‘living in MAGA World’ for dismissing the DOJ’s claims that built-in protections such as the grand jury system (LOL) and accountable prosecutors and attorneys general (DOUBLE LOL) would prevent a successor from vindictively prosecuting his Oval Office predecessor in the future.
But their red-hot fury at the justices masked the real source of rage: Trump’s trial in Washington very likely will not happen in 2024 as hoped.
Hopes Dashed for a Quick Decision…”

“Texas Fires Back at Pfizer, Asks Court to Reject Drug Giant’s Bid to Dismiss ‘Deceptive Marketing’ Lawsuit
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Monday contested Pfizer’s motion to dismiss the state’s lawsuit accusing the drug giant of “false, misleading, or deceptive” marketing of its COVID-19 vaccines and trying to intimidate critics who questioned those claims.”
By Brenda Baletti, Ph.D.
EXCERPT: “Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Monday contested Pfizer’s motion to dismiss the state’s lawsuit accusing the drug giant of “false, misleading, or deceptive” marketing of its COVID-19 vaccines and trying to intimidate critics who questioned those claims.
According to the lawsuit, filed Nov. 30, 2023, Pfizer’s claims about the efficacy, duration of protection and ability of its COVID-19 vaccine to prevent transmission violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
The lawsuit also alleged Pfizer cited misleading statistics, concealed negative data and made unsupported statements about the vaccine’s efficacy against variants like Delta, and that those actions negatively affected Texas citizens.
Paxton is seeking over $10 million in civil penalties, plus injunctive relief barring Pfizer from making claims about vaccine efficacy similar to those challenged in the lawsuit.
Pfizer denied the allegations last year when the lawsuit was filed, telling Reuters the case had no merit, and defending its claims about the vaccine as “accurate and science-based.”
Last month, Pfizer moved to dismiss the lawsuit. The company argued that under the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act), Pfizer was protected from liability claims regarding its COVID-19 vaccine “medical countermeasure,” authorized for emergency use under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).
In its motion to dismiss, Pfizer reiterated its claim that “since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic tens of millions of lives were saved by vaccination,” quoting a recent JAMA article by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Dr. Robert Califf and Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D.
Pfizer said that without the protection afforded to vaccine makers under the PREP Act, the company would not have been able to distribute its life-saving vaccine.
The company also argued that Texas can’t bring a claim under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act — which protects consumers — “because the so-called ‘consumers’ in this case received their vaccines from the federal government for free.”
‘Best piercing of the PREP Act I’ve ever seen’
According to Paxton, Pfizer’s claims and censorship scheme were misleading, deceptive and illegal under Texas law. Also, the consumer protection law is not preempted by the federal PREP and FD&C acts, as Pfizer contends….”
