For Cleaning

So, you forgot about that baking powder you bought last year and now it’s expired. Don’t throw it away just yet! There are actually a few surprising uses for expired baking powder that might come in handy. And for me, the best way is to use expired baking powder to clean!

Baking powder can be used as a natural cleaner for various household items. It can be mixed with water to make a paste and used to scrub away stains on sinks, countertops, and stovetops.

Use it to soak for pots and pans – Stuck on foods making pots and pans hard to clean? Soak them in a mix of hot water and baking powder and you won’t have to scrub so hard!

As a Crayon Mark remover -Did little one decided to use the wall to make a master piece? Use a mix of hot water and baking powder and gently scrub the marks off with a toothbrush.

As a Cleaner for your Microwave – Put 2 tbsp of baking powder and 2 cups of water in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 minutes. This will loosen any stuck on food and make it where you can easily wipe it clean!

Deodorizer

Baking powder can be used to absorb unpleasant odors in refrigerators, closets, and shoes. Simply place an open container of baking powder in the area and let it absorb the odor.

You can sprinkle some baking powder on your carpets and then vacuum it up to suck up some of those set in odors.  The same can also be done for car seats (fabric, not leather)!

As a freshener for your shoes:Fill a pair of socks with baking powder and tie off the ends. Stick them in shoes you want to keep fresh!

Natural Deodorant

Baking powder can be mixed with water to create a natural deodorant. Apply it under the arms to absorb moisture and neutralize odors.

Detergent Booster

Put a tsp of baking powder in with your clothes and it will help remove odors in the wash.

Degreaser

Got a grease stain on your shirt? Sprinkle some baking powder on the spot and leave it to soak up the grease, wash as usual and the grease spot will be gone!

As a Way to Keep Out Ants

Ants invading your house? Mix an equal amount of baking powder and salt and sprinkle around the outside of doors and windows to deter them.

As a Gas Blocker

A tsp of baking powder in water while cooking dried beans will lesson gas and bloating that comes from eating the beans!

As a Drain Opener

Have a partially clogged drain? Pour in 1/2 a cup of baking powder followed by 1/2 a cup of vinegar and let bubble. Wait a few minutes and follow up with some hot water and the clog should be gone!

Homemade Playdough

Baking powder can be used as an ingredient in homemade playdough recipes. It helps the playdough to rise and become soft and pliable.

Fruits and Vegetables Wash

Baking powder can be used to help remove pesticides and other chemicals from fruits and vegetables. Soak them in water with a teaspoon of baking powder for 10-15 minutes before rinsing them off.

So there you have it, 10 uses for baking powder that you may not have thought of before!

    1. Morning, Pat! I’m sitting at 23 this morning but w/bright sunshine and clear skies. Saw on yesterday’s news that No. Platte got over 14″ of snow! Only the southern part of NE got any moisture, none here at all. Kea posted a bunch of horse videos @ M’s and I’ve been enjoying them this morning. I’ll change my clocks by mid-afternoon…otherwise, if I wait, I’ll probably forget.

  8. head of Chicago teacher’s union demands $50BILLION in the next contract…saying these are basically NON-NEGOTIABLE demands. she wants to eliminate school choice–her son goes to private school btw. She makes $300,000 a year and is in arrears on her utility bill by $6,000. besides expanding teacher’s healthcare–she now wants them to have rental assistance. (sounds like the program to entice foreign teachers to come to this country)

      rand paul is a budget hawk so that’s a strong point for…but Filly would give you better ideas about his stance on other things tbh

      1. Good morning, Miss Pat!
        Wanted to sew all day yesterday, but Sally’s caregiver leaves early on Fridays because her kids get out of school early. Then Sally Q had a tachycardia attack and her Dad and I had to give her extra medicine. Pacemakers control low heart rate, but controlling high heart rate is done by medication.
        My first attempt at making a pillowcase with an apron that tucks under the seat cushion and doesn’t move or fall out was a failure. The knit fabric was too stretchy and I sewed the apron on the short end and that made the pillow hang too low and drag the floor. This time, I’m making the pillow cover out of non stretchy rip-stop nylon and will sew the apron that tucks under the chair seat cushion on the long side so the pillow lies horizontally under her legs where it needs to be. The apron won’t be so deep and will only attach to the velcro on the front of the seat pan. I know it’s hard to understand all this, unless you have dealt with a power wheelchair. Hopefully my second try will be successful!

I worked with rip-stop nylon myself a few years ago. my son was training for his Iron man competition and his water bladder (a wearable water system that would keep him hydrated) had ripped and he thought i could do a better job making the outer nylon bag –the piece that ripped. sigh
          mom’s can do anything, right?

          1. Good ripstop nylon is what I used to make a new back and chest belt for Sally’s shower wheelchair. The old back had gotten so stiff and full of soap scum that it was scratching and causing lesions on her back.

            The nylon dries quickly and I can take it off and soak it a while in dawn and vinegar to get out the soap scum that accumulates.

    2. I’m 50/50 on him being the Leader but he won’t get it. It will be one of the top 3 with seniority – that’s how it’s done according to “House rules” – that’s all that matters to them. He also supported seating the electors as they were at the time and NOT accepting the challenges. He did say at a later date he thought the 2020 election “was stolen” and stated that voter fraud was a major issue as well. Here’s a clip of him speaking on the subject - it does NOT speak well of him at all! ALWAYS be cautious with him!

    Upon hearing this, I felt sick and my immediate gut feeling was that she was murdered. The police at the time said she died of an aneurysm. I found it highly suspicious that a seemingly healthy 28-year-old woman would drop dead from an aneurysm and the timing and death sure was convenient for Jay Z.

    Sources told me that Cathy had told Jay Z she was considering going public with Star via me after we talked. There were also online blogs that reported this too. I ran a small story on this that appeared in Star at the time. I wanted to pursue this story further, particularly, investigate if she was indeed murdered. However, I was discouraged from doing so. My boss was not interested in running a follow-up piece.

    There were blogs that reported that after I talked to Cathy, she reached out to Jay Z and told her she may go public about their affair.

    Years later, I met sources who knew both Jay Z, Cathy and inside information on her death. They strongly believe Jay Z had her murdered to silence her. One source told me Jay Z had law enforcement and even coroners in his back pocket. The source also said that there are corrupt coroners in New York City who will rule homicides as natural deaths for cash….”

    Appropriations Bills – comes more than five months into the fiscal year, is jammed full of earmarks and the left’s political priorities. Fails to move towards reducing national debt. This is not fiscal conservatism. Who in their right minds will be voting on yet another duplicitous bill with hidden earmarks?

    Hopefully more people will do more than gripe, to hold their local politicians’ feet to the fire!

    Hidden within the appropriations bills are:

       $3.5 million for Michigan’s Thanksgiving Parade;

       $1 million for an environmental justice center in New York City;

       $1 million for gardens in San Francisco;

       $4 million for a waterfront walkway in New Jersey;

       $1 million for an electric vehicle car share for public housing residents in Los
    Angeles;

       $4.1 million for a Fire Station in Quincy, MA – (a town of 100,000 with a
    median income of over $90,000); and

       $4 million for the Wright Factory Business Park attempting to turn the plane

So a military General was in on the 2020 coup d’etat!!! Too bad Milley will never be court marshaled because he should be!!!! Nothing will of this unfortunately!!!
