Pennsylvania: Humble Beginnings

From PENNLIVE:

History

The first English charter to colonize land in the New World that is today known as Pennsylvania was set forth by King Charles II as a way to repay William Penn, a member of upper-class nobility, whose father had lent the king money before his death. Penn was a supporter of the Society of Friends, or Quakers, a controversial religion at the time that rejected rituals and oaths and opposed war. Penn wanted to create a haven for his persecuted friends in the New World and asked the King to grant him land in the territory between the province of Maryland and the province of New York.

On March 4, 1681, King Charles signed the Charter of Pennsylvania, and it was officially proclaimed on April 2. The king named the colony after Penn’s father, Admiral Sir Penn. In October 1682, Penn sent a proprietor to Pennsylvania who visited the capital city Philadelphia, created the three original counties and summoned a General Assembly to Chester on December 4.

From those humble beginnings, Pennsylvania has made quite a name for itself.  Consider…

We have a famous groundhog

There’s a town named after a candy bar (Hershey)

There’s a town that’s perpetually on fire (Centralia)

A famous painting horse lived here (Metro Meteor)

We had a museum for famous people’s hair (at Drexel University)

And let’s not forget those memorable Pennsylvania town names:

Asylum

Blue Ball

Burnt Cabins

California

Climax

Coon Hunter

Crackersport

Egypt

Free Love Valley

Glen Campbell

Honey Pot

Indiana

Intercourse

    1. Morning, Pat! That article is taking a lot of liberties, I must say, with some of those names of towns in PA…..as for Nebraska, the town only had that name for 20 years. And Climax is an un-incorporated village so…..the “town” was in CO (now a mining ghost town) ala “hauling [steel] balls from Climax, CO to Intercourse, PA.” I’d never heard of the so-called “painting horse.” Well-trained with signals passed to the horse, no doubt – that is the only way that can happen. Good for a chuckle at least! And I expect his handler made some nice $$$’s on that scam!

  5. “Two more Texas school districts sued for electioneering by AG Ken Paxton”

By Bethany Blankley | The Center Square contributor

    Published: March 3, 2024 10:34p

EXCERPT: “More public-school districts are being sued for allegedly using taxpayer resources to instruct staff to vote against school choice candidates in the Republican primary election regardless if they are Republicans.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Huffman and Aledo independent school districts on Friday alleging they used state resources to influence political races through illegal electioneering. This is after Paxton first sued Denton, Frisco, Denison and Castleberry ISDs within one week “for illegal electioneering by using taxpayer-funded resources” to “stump for specific candidates during an election” and/or “promote certain political candidates and policies” related to school choice.

School choice is a top issue for Republican primary voters as Gov. Greg Abbott has endorsed candidates who he believes will support his school choice bill after multiple efforts failed last year during the regular and special legislative sessions.

After a Senate school choice bill failed multiple times in the House, a House education funding bill was proposed that included a school choice amendment. Twenty-one Republicans voted to kill the amendment, which would have allocated funding for an Education Savings Account pilot program for primarily disadvantaged and minority students. Five of the 21 Republicans retired; 16 are being challenged by pro-school choice candidates endorsed by Abbott and others.

In an effort to combat a growing statewide movement that supports school choice and is popular among the majority of Republican voters, public school officials waded into the primary election and are now facing the civil suits….”

  6. “Ron Johnson evades question about running for Senate GOP leader”
By Madeleine Hubbard, Just The News
    Published: March 3, 2024 12:54pm

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., sidestepped a question Sunday about whether he would run for Senate Republican leader after Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he would retire from the position later this year.

On “The Hill Sunday,” NewsNation host Chris Stirewalt asked Johnson whether he would consider running for GOP leader after he sent a letter to his Senate Republican colleagues urging a defined process to be created for electing a new leader, The Hill reported. Johnson said that the letter was meant to encourage his party to unite to define roles and goals.

“In terms of replacing the leader but what this letter is primarily about, you know — I don’t think people truly understand the profound dysfunction within Congress,” he responded. “What Republicans have not done is effectively counter the destruction of the radical left, the destruction of the Democratic Party. That’s what we need to do. So what I asked for in this conference is let’s discuss, discuss a mission statement. Let’s establish goals.”

Johnson also said: “We’ve had a leader that pretty well does things on his own, doesn’t tell the conference what he’s up to. By the time we find out it’s too late to reverse course.”

Stirewalt said he “did not hear a no” from Johnson on whether he would consider being the next Senate Republican Conference leader. Republican Sens. John Thune, S.D., John Cornyn, Texas, John Barrasso, Wyo., and Joni Ernst, Iowa, are being considered as likely candidates for the position.”

“Gun Owners of America speaks out against John Cornyn’s bid to replace McConnell as Senate GOP leader”

By Madeleine Hubbard, Just The News

    Published: March 3, 2024 8:19am

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Gun Owners of America, a conservative firearm rights group, spoke out against Texas Sen. John Cornyn’s bid to replace Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell as Senate Republican leader.

“The Senate deserves a conservative pro-gun leader, and John Cornyn is not that person,” Gun Owners of America Federal Affairs Director Aidan Johnston said last week in a statement posted by the group on X, formerly Twitter. “Every time a gun issue comes up, he’s right there with a compromise. And that’s not leadership. That’s just capitulation to gun control.”

Johnston reiterated his group’s opposition in comments to Fox News Digital on Saturday. “In the eyes of gun owners and all those who treasure our liberties, the traitor from Texas’ record makes him wholly unfit to lead Republicans in the Senate,” he said.

Cornyn announced his bid to replace McConnell on Thursday.

“Sen. Cornyn is responsible for helping pass the so-called Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that, among other things, bribes states to enact ‘red-flag’ gun confiscation laws, creates a national de facto wait period for young adults to buy a gun, and creates a backdoor ATF rule to eliminate the private sale of firearms,” Johnston also said, calling the law’s provisions “gross infringements on the Second Amendment.”

The Safer Communities Act urges states to pass “red flag” laws that allow the public and law enforcement to petition courts to issue an order temporarily suspending a person’s access to firearms over concerns that person may pose a danger to themselves or others.

Johnston added: “The best thing Senator Cornyn could do for gun rights is join Mitch McConnell in retirement.”

McConnell is not retiring from his position as senator, only as GOP leader. Cornyn, however, has not faced public opposition from other major firearms groups. When he ran for reelection in 2020, before the passage of the Safer Communities Act, the National Rifle Association’s political action committee gave Cornyn an A+ rating for his defense of firearm rights.”

A change of pace toward levity….

Texas Declares War on the USA

President Barack Obama was in the Oval Office when his telephone rang.

“Hello, President Obama” a heavily accented southern voice said, “This is
Archie, down here at Joe’s Crab Shack, Houston, Texas. I am callin’ to tell
ya’ll that we are officially declaring war on ya!”

“Well Archie,” Barack replied, “This is indeed important news! Just how big
     is your army?”

“Right now,” said Archie, after a moments calculation “there is myself, my
cousin Harold, my next-door-neighbor Randy, and the whole dart team from
     Hooters. That makes eight!”

Barack paused. “I must tell you Archie that I have one million men in my
army waiting to move on my command.”

“Wow,” said Archie. “I’ll have to call ya back!”

Sure enough, the next day, Archie called again. “Mr. Obama, the war is still
on! We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment!”

“And what equipment would that be Archie?” Barack asked.

“Well sir, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Harry¹s farm tractor.”

President Obama sighed. “I must tell you Archie, that I have 16,000 tanks
and 14,000 armored personnel carriers. Also I’ve increased my army to one
and a half million since we last spoke.”

“Lord above”, said Archie, “I’ll be getting back to ya.”

Sure enough, Archie rang again the next day “President Obama, the war is
still on! We have managed to git ourselves airborne! We up an’ modified
Harold¹s ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys
from the Legion have joined us as well!”

Barack was silent for a minute then cleared his throat. “I must tell you
Archie that I have 10,000 bombers and 20,000 fighter planes. My military
complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And
since we last spoke, I’ve increased my army to TWO MILLION!”

“Oh Lord,” said Archie, “l’ll have to call you back.”

Sure enough, Archie called again the next day. ³President Obama! I am sorry
to have to tell you that we have had to call off this here war.”

“I’m sorry to hear that” said Barack. “Why the sudden change of heart?”

Well, sir,” said Archie, “we’ve all sat ourselves down and had a long chat
over a few beers, and come to realize that there’s just no way we can feed
     two million prisoners.”

  9. EXCERPT: “University of Maryland political science professor Thomas Schaller and op-ed writer Paul Waldman were in MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” studio to promote their new book titled, “White Rural Rage: The Threat to American Democracy.” They repeatedly called Whites in the countryside and across the land “racist” and “anti-democracy.”

“They are the most racist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-gay, geodemographic group in the country,” Schaller said. “Second, they’re the most conspiracist group. QAnon support and subscribers, election denialism, COVID denialism instead of scientific skepticism, Obama birtherism.” So all that… applied to an entire race of people living in rural areas.

The aforementioned commenter “Educated Hillbilly” further highlighted that this particular segment is notable for being “far more in your face and blatant.” He complained, “I have not seen anyone on TV say all black city people are XYZ this blatantly racist way and be accepted on a mainstream so and get support from everyone while saying it.”

The authors continued their rant, with Schaller saying further of White rural people, “They don’t believe in an independent press, free speech.” — ZeroHedge

  10. “During a speech to the U.S. Air Force, transgender Space Force Col. Bree Fram demanded everyone use pronouns in their emails as a way to enhance “winning war fighting strategies”.

    Yes, really.

“All too often, I hear leaders talk about providing everyone with dignity and respect like it’s an aspirational goal, that ‘s not good enough,” said Fram.

“Dignity and respect is the bare minimum, it’s the floor of where we can be, we must set our sights higher and focus on intentional inclusivity, because there are still far too many people out there, not just LGBTQ individuals, that feel marginalized, shut out or discriminated against,” he added.

“So for all of you out there, I ask you to set out your symbols of pride, share your pronouns in your email, particularly if you’re a person who doesn’t think they need to, initiate difficult conversations about racial and gender barriers, and share a bit of your vulnerability in a way that draws others in.”

“You all have the power to take intentionally inclusive action to ensure the multiple perspectives that we know make us stronger as we devise winning war fighting strategies get heard.” — Modernity News

    Supreme Court reverses…

“The Court holds that “[b]ecause the Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates, we reverse.”

“Justice Barrett concurs in part and concurs in the judgment. She agrees that states do not have the power to enforce Sec. 3 against presidential candidates but would not go further and address whether federal legislation is the only way that Section 3 can be enforced.”

“Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson have a (joint?) opinion concurring in the judgment. They too agree that Colorado cannot keep Trump off the ballot. But then, they say, five justices go further and “decide novel constitutional questions to insulate this Court and [Trump] from further controversy,” by announcing “that a disqualification for insurrection can occur only when Congress enacts a particular kind of legislation pursuant to Section 5 of the Fourteenth Amendment. In doing so, the majority shuts the door on other potential means of enforcement.”

  12. “Trump will be re-elected; hysterical progressives are right to be worried”
    By Charles Martel —— Bio and Archives–March 4, 2024

EXCERPT: “This is Charles Martel, coming to you from Florida and bringing down the hammer for the Canada Free Press. Donald Trump will be our next president. I’m making that point unequivocally, right now; if I’m wrong and get egg on my face then I’ll revisit this in November, and my critics can bathe in schadenfreude while I cry for the country that once was America.

    https://rumble.com/v4h5kf6-trump-will-be-re-elected-hysterical-progressives-are-right-to-be-worried.html

Bush, McCain, Romney, brought fingerless gloves to a fight in which their opponents sported brass knuckles. Trump will be our next president because a majority of people want him; how’s that for Occam’s Razor? That number will increase from now until November. I’m well aware that the GOPe, the country club silk panty wearing dubonnet sippers, the go along to get along, belly up to the trough crowd of the Republican Party doesn’t want Trump; I’m equally aware that they’ve yet to realize that the rank and file has not so much left them behind as it has abandoned them. They are orphaned and forgotten.

They have neither power nor influence; they will not choose our next candidate, but if they decide, as has Nikki Haley, to fight our democratic will, then they will have destroyed their chances for a political future in the Republican Party, and that, to my mind, is no loss at all.

Some of this flaccid faction on the right is nothing more than their twin example among liberals. Their hands are permanently in the pocket of their constituents. They like the power, perquisites, and privilege, but their principles, if they ever had any, were long ago erased. They are bereft of honor and couldn’t begin to define courage. We needed brawlers, and they are cowards and weasels.

There is a second element on the right that, seemingly, has not realized they’ve been excommunicated. I respect the honor and decency of the Bush’s, John McCain, and Mitt Romney, but they brought fingerless gloves to a fight in which their opponents sported brass knuckles. They lived and are living in a time long past.

To not, at this point, realize that has to be an instant disqualifier because it’s a guarantee of electoral humiliation. And losing honorably is simply no longer an affordable luxury. Peers are owed a degree of honor; barbarians are owed an alley fight with a promise of every degree of ruthlessness imaginable….”

      1. From past experience…since I LITERALLY live in sweats…

I have 4 pairs of sweat pants that had wide elastic waist bands that were just too tight for me at the time. Marilyn removed the elastic for me and replaced it with shoe laces – the trick is to use boot-type laces that are extra long and put double or triple knots on top of each other at the end to keep them from sliding inside. I also make sure to tie the laces together tightly when I put those 4 prs. in the washer. They always come loose anyway and I re-tie them before I put them in the dryer. I’ve not had any get lost so far and that was years ago. I also always buy boys’ sizes – the male sweat pants have MUCH longer laces! And pockets! I MUST have pockets and a lot of women’s sweats don’t have ’em! LOL

When you want to re-string them, put a super large safety pin on one end to thread it through the waist band.

right off the highway. we were watching them build a new warehouse/store (?) for months wondering what it will be. turns out it’s a fireworks place!

it used to be further down the highway and they were leasing that building. this property became available and it’s right off the highway and cheaper than renting, so they bought it and built their own.

we were wondering if there was that much of a business for fireworks outside of the fourth of the July-and now the mystery is solved. there are numerous large farms around.

Did you know that the courts keep blocking any and every state effort to verify the citizenship of voters on the grounds that Congress must change the federal form? Now that we have 10M+ brand new Biden illegals living here, many of them criminals, it is hard to imagine a more vital priority for Congress than requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

Appearing on CNN after the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 for 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump to remain on the ballot in Colorado and other states, Rep. Jamie Raskin said he is working with other Democrat Congress members to remove Trump from the ballot through legislation.

“I am working with a number of my colleagues including Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Eric Swalwell to revive legislation that we had to set up a process by which we could determine that someone who committed insurrection is disqualified by section three of the 14th Amendment.

“And the House of Representatives already impeached Donald Trump for participating in insurrection by inciting it. So, the House has already pronounced upon that,” he added.

The statement comes as the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that Trump can remain on the ballot in a case out of Colorado. That ruling will effect other states, such as Maine, that have said they would bar Trump from the ballot depending on the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The Court stated that “if States were free to enforce Section 3 by barring candidates from running in the first place, Congress would be forced to exercise its disability removal power before voting begins if it wished for its decision to have any effect on the current election cycle. Perhaps a State may burden congressional authority in such a way when it exercises its ‘exclusive’ sovereign power over its own state offices.”

“But,” they continued, “it is implausible to suppose that the Constitution affirmatively delegated to the States the authority to impose such a burden on congressional power with respect to candidates for federal office.” The Court further stated that the petitioners on behalf of Colorado were unable to identify any “tradition of state enforcement of section 3 against federal officeholders or candidates in the years following ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

    BREAKING 🚨🚨

GA Prosecutor’s Proposed Testimony Offered to Reopen #FaniWillis Disqualification hearing

From in or around August of 2023 through January of 2024, Ms. Yeager had numerous, in-person and other conversations with attorney Terence Bradley in which information relating to District Attorney Willis and Mr. Wade was discussed””

    🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

“Mr. Wade had definitively begun a romantic relationship with Ms. Willis during the time that Ms. Willis was running for District Attorney in 2019 through 2020”

“Ms. Yeager heard District Attorney #FaniWillis tell Mr. Bradley:

“They are coming after us. You don’t need to talk to them about anything about us.”

“Ms. Yeager watched Mr. Bradley’s testimony before the Court and became concerned as a result of the fact that what Mr. Bradley testified to on the witness stand was directly contrary to what Mr. Bradley had told Ms. Yeager in person”

I cannot emphasize enough how significant this is.

The judge will be hard pressed to ignore the proposed testimony of another Georgia prosecutor who is coming forward to correct what she perceives as a fraud perpetrated on the court by Fulton DA #FaniWillis
