What Shall We Make Today?

Peanut Butter Balls! This recipe comes from my namesake, so these are a no-bake treat.  I’ve seen different variations on these, including melting the peanut butter first—too fussy for Aunt Pat.  Or, melting an entire bag of chocolate chips and dipping the balls instead of drizzling the chocolate—oh hell no, she’d say!  TOO MESSY!  But the options are always yours.

Aunt Pat’s Peanut Butter Balls

Ingredients

4 cups powdered sugar

½ cup butter, softened

2 cups peanut butter, regular or chunky

3 cups Rice Krispies

2 cups chocolate chips: your choice, semi-sweet, milk or dark

Cream the powdered sugar and softened butter.  Add the Rice Krispies, mixing by hand.  Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.  (If you choose to dip the balls into the melted chocolate instead of drizzling the melted chocolate over the balls, refrigerate so they are firmer before you dip.)  Melt the chocolate chips in a plastic bag in the microwave for easier clean-up (a MUST for Aunt Pat’s recipes).  Snip off the tip of the bag and drizzle the melted chocolate over the balls.

Another variation is to put the melted chocolate right into the balls instead of drizzling it on or coating the balls

  1. “Turkey cancels energy cooperation with Israel—The move is the latest evidence of deteriorating relations between the countries as Turkey recently reiterated its support for Hamas”
    October 27, 2023
    editor: REMIX NEWS author: ZIARE

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “NATO member Turkey has suspended all energy agreements with Israel due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Ankara’s decision comes after a meeting between Turkish President Recep Erdoğan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly. The move could have monumental implications for both countries.

In stark contrast to their agreement on joint energy drilling in the Eastern Mediterranean and the operation of energy transmission lines from Turkey to Europe, President Erdoğan expressed his disappointment with Israel, claiming that Israel took advantage of Turkey’s good intentions.

The war in Gaza is sending shockwaves around the world, amplifying the multiple crises caused by Vladimir Putin’s conflict in Ukraine. The termination of energy agreements with Israel is the latest evidence of deteriorating relations between the two countries and follows Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar canceling his upcoming scheduled visit to Tel Aviv. The previously planned collaboration between Turkey and Israel involved significant energy drilling in the eastern Mediterranean and the operation of energy transmission lines from Turkey to Europe.

Israel, with proven reserves of 750 billion cubic meters of gas, has become a key player in the region and produced approximately 22 billion cubic meters of gas last year. The nation has prioritized gas exports to the EU, especially as Russia’s dominance of the European market has declined. However, with the recent U.S. withdrawal from the European gas pipeline project in the eastern Mediterranean, Israel has begun exploring alternative routes to export gas to Europe, with Turkey standing out due to its strategic location.

Adding fuel to the fire, President Erdoğan’s recent remarks about Hamas during the AKP party meeting stirred controversy, as he described the group, which is a proscribed terrorist organization in the European Union, the U.K., and the U.S., as a “mujahideen defending their lands.”

His sharp criticism of Israel and the cancellation of his planned visit to the country further exacerbated already strained relations. The suspension of energy agreements between Turkey and Israel could severely disrupt energy supplies, impacting the economies of both nations. The shockwave effects of the suspension of the energy deal have already begun to show in the Turkish economy.”

        1. This was one battle not worth fighting right now – there would have been a huge uproar in Congress and more in-fighting and squabbling!

              1. it’s like my promising my child i will buy them an elephant if we win the lottery (if i never buy a ticket)
it’s an easy promise to make to keep the child from thinking there’s no hope even though i know it will never come to fruition. but it keeps the child from having a tantrum in the middle of church,
johnson saying he will consider it only if we get an accounting is keeping the child (the left) from screaming and drowning out any kind of work from getting done.

This appears to be a major positive development for Americans.

“A judge in a landmark Michigan case, however, has now ruled that the PREP Act does not shield the Big Pharma companies from liability if their medicines are contaminated.

That’s it. The floodgates are finally open. If you were hurt by a COVID shot or if one of your loved ones died from it, you can now sue the Big Pharma companies.”

  5. I am adding a short daily prayer to the board. I would invite each of you, if you wish, to also add one or maybe two of your own liking. I do not want to stifle anyone but please limit yourself to one or two religious postings. here’s one I found that I liked.

  6. Your rice crispy balls look yummy, Miss Pat!

Date-rice crispie balls were popular for the holidays when I was a little girl.

    Ingredients
1 (8 ounce) package pitted dates, chopped
    1 cup white sugar
    ½ cup butter or margarine
    3 cups crispy rice cereal
    1 cup chopped pecans
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup confectioners’ sugar, or as needed

    Directions
Place dates, sugar, and margarine in a large saucepan over low heat; cook and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and fold in crispy rice cereal, pecans, and vanilla extract until evenly mixed.

Roll date mixture into 1-inch balls using lightly greased hands; allow balls to cool.

Spread confectioners’ sugar into a shallow dish; roll date balls in confectioners’ sugar to coat.

    Tips
Store date balls in a plastic or glass air-tight container. If the weather is warm, keep them in the refrigerator.

  7. copying a comment I shared at the Q-Tree ❤ Blessings on a great weekend! ❤

    Wow you guys…this is a personal blurb…

My son Josiah has been staying with us most of this month as he’s been wrestling w/ heading back to his wife’s family home. He usually splits time between the households, most weekdays with us & most weekends with them & often trading off on Monday’s & Friday’s after work w/ his respite care worker providing the transportation,

Anyway he had been quite reluctant to go back to his wife’s & we couldn’t figure out what the issue was. Finally he revealed/discovered that this was the time of year last year when things with his in-laws began to go significantly downhill & he got so overwhelmed that he ultimately came to stay with us to escape from some toxic issues developing over there…at one point he was even feeling suicidal as he was so overwhelmed 🙁

So God has been very good & has continued to do a healing work in my son’s heart & life & He has helped to heal some of the wounds inflicted in the marriage & in-law scenario. We had a breakthrough conversation last weekend that ultimately included his wife by speaker phone as he likes to update people on his status. We ended up having a Very Powerful prayer time too. We Are the Church–even when we very rarely attend A church!

Anyway, the other day Josiah asked me to help him write a book about his medical journey (I’ve never written a book). I encouraged him to consider using a word press blog in a private format & to make me an editor or administrator so that I could help him in the development of the “book”. Well it turns out that he really didn’t want to do the kind of work that writing a book likely entails (DP & PAVACA could speak about this process!) & instead ended up wanting to tell his story in his own voice in a blog format.

So over the last few days we’ve ended up having hours of conversations as he’s wanting to tell about his medical journey chronologically. Starting at his birth, & even slightly before, means that he has no personal memories of the early events…so he keeps asking me to recount things, sometimes w/ input from my husband who has overheard aspects of our discussions.

Anyway, what’s taking place is very good…but also Very Exhausting. Please pray for Josiah, and me, as we plow through some painful & intense chapters of the saga that Josiah’s presence in our family created.

God is being glorified, & Josiah is doing some major internal work as he faces these unread but intensely lived chapters of his life. It’s also stirring up my memories which are sometimes fairly painful. A number of times I’ve been speaking louder & more intensely than what is my “normal” voice…sigh…

I’ll share a link to his new blog at some point when a few more posts are under his belt, in case his/our journey might be a blessing to anyone here, or to someone you know.

So my husband went Up North, bringing my dad with him, this afternoon for bowhunting. Tomorrow the twins & our dog head up to The Shack. Sunday Michael & the dog will return & the twins, bringing my dad with them, will come home on Tuesday. So I’ll get slightly more than 24 hours of solitude here to regroup LOL 😊

I went searching for an image of the The Shack on my main blog only to discover the link is broken since I apparently didn’t upload it properly to the media file…sigh. This is a one room tar paper covered woodstove heated building that’s been in my family for nearly a century now. There is a hand pump for water & a couple outhouses out back. I gave some more info on that place in a prior post here, in case anyone is interested 😉

  8. That looks like a Great Recipe that would likely sell very well in my family. It reminds me a bit of my mom’s chocolate covered peanut butter rice crispies treats, which I think I shared the recipe with you on a prior post a while back. Also there is some resemblance to peanut butter “buckeyes” or “buck nuts” but those don’t have rice crispies just a soft doughy center & incomplete chocolate coverage…
