In honor of Halloween later this month, today’s recipe is from Reader’s Digest and it’s for FAKE BLOOD & GUTS, lol.  I am only presenting the fake blood part of the article because the rest is too out there even for me.  But there are many, MANY videos on how to make your own intestines if you really want to know how.

Many years ago, I worked as a celebrity makeup artist. And for a while there, I trained in special effects makeup—you know, the gooey, gross, and oozing stuff that makes you gasp or peek through your hands as you’re watching a scary movie. If you’re opting for an easy Halloween costume this year and trying to figure out how to make fake blood to accent your creation, we’ve got you covered. Literally.

Making fake blood is both creative and easy, depending on your needs. The king of modern splatter makeup, Greg Nicotero, who’s best known for his work on The Walking Dead, once told CBS News that creating fake blood was “kind of—oddly—a weird art form.” He’s not wrong. And Nicotero’s creative zombie art has inspired countless Halloween costume ideas and Halloween makeup ideas.

So why should you whip up your own fake blood? Well, what is Halloween without a little gore? Plus, it’s easy, inexpensive, and really fun to make. And let’s not forget about bragging rights. You can reference it in your Halloween Instagram captions, or share a TikTok of yourself scrolling through Halloween face paint ideas and scary Halloween costumes and then pan out to an image of you stirring up a batch of fake blood.

These fake blood recipes are total no-brainers, but keep in mind that a lot of these ingredients will stain your skin and property. And remember: Don’t sacrifice safety for fun. Fake blood that comes in contact with your skin or mouth needs to be edible.

So, what should you expect from this creepy crafts experiment? The DIY fake blood should be slightly runny, like the fake blood in movies. Think Dexter and his blood spatter, and you’ll have an idea of what the texture should look like. Ready to create your own (make-believe) blood? Here’s how:

Ingredients:

3/4 cup corn syrup (if you’re trying for the look of old blood, consider using a few drops of maple syrup as well)

1/4 cup water

1/2 teaspoon red food coloring

5 drops blue food coloring

2 drops green food coloring

1 tablespoon cornstarch

Step 1: Combine the water and corn syrup. You’re trying for runny, but not so runny that it drips off your face or body and just leaves stains.

Step 2: Slowly add the food coloring until you reach your ideal color.

Step 3: Slowly mix in the cornstarch. You can add a drop of water to the cornstarch first to keep it from clumping.

Step 4: Let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before use.

Note: This is going to stain your skin and clothing.

The food coloring proportions are optional; only you know the exact color you’re trying to create. That said, using green and blue makes the color more realistic. Bear in mind that red and blue create purple, and green will give your fake blood the sickening look you’re trying for.

How to make fake blood for clothes

If you’re hoping to make your clothes look bloody, you’ll need to create blood that is thicker and darker. The fake blood recipe below is nontoxic and made with edible ingredients. Ideally, you’ll make a bigger batch of this fake blood so you can thoroughly soak your costume.

This fake blood recipe uses a ratio of corn syrup to water, versus exact measurements, so you can make as little or as much as you like. If you and your friends are batting around group Halloween costume ideas, consider making a single batch of blood for everyone to use.

Ingredients:

Corn syrup

Water

Red food coloring

Cocoa powder

Step 1: In a large bowl, combine three parts corn syrup with one part water. Mix thoroughly.

Step 2: Add a couple drops of red food coloring into the mixture while stirring continuously. Keep adding more drops of food coloring until the blood is your desired color. Stir for at least five minutes to distribute the food coloring evenly.

Step 3: Add 3 tablespoons cocoa powder to the mixture and stir. This thickens the blood. Keep adding cocoa powder, a tablespoon at a time, until the blood reaches your desired consistency. The blood will be thick but not lumpy, so it can sit on your clothing and absorb without running.

You can also try using old red paint and water, blending in blue and green paint until you have the right color and texture of dried blood.

  1. Morning All! boy i could have used this recipe in my younger days. i loved trick or treating and then when i passed that age where i would go, i would dress up and scare the trick or treaters that came to our house. then later i scared my own kids…
    yup, I’m THAT person…lol

    1. Morning, Pat! Friday the 13th….what will happen today, I wonder!!! Still raining…sigh…gettin’ pretty water-logged here! But at least the temp is still at 54 – tonight a possible freeze so I’ll be gathering the bigger of the lopes to see if I can ripen them inside.

      GT never did show up yesterday and I kept calling off and on thru the day – na’ar a sign of her. This morning, I went out at 5 am to prop open the doggie door and what do I see but two gray-striped legs….I said good morning and turned to grab her food dish and set it down in front of the doors. As I was coming back inside, she climbed thru the opening and commenced to chowing down, with Jake watching again – only one plaintive meow before he went and sprawled on the living room rug to get my attention.

      When that didn’t work, he came back to the door to meow at her again. She left the dish and was sitting by the patio door grooming herself before going over to sniff all around the doggie door, looking outside, then doing some more exploring on the patio. Meanwhile, Jake sits and watches….too funny! When I looked out a minute ago, I couldn’t see her so I went out to see if she had left. She was over on the east end exploring and scooted over and out the doggie door, then sat down right outside it, and continued grooming herself. As long as I don’t get any other cats out there, I’ll leave the doggie door open for her.

        it was 34* when it finally got light enough out to see the thermometer!
        the howling and caterwalling went on for about 15 minutes before it ended.

        1. Yep – he’s taken to going to the door periodically to look for her. That howling would get on my nerves fast! It’s a really eerie sound! I expect my thermometer will be saying something similar soon – possibly tonight….

          1. it’s always dark out when they do it, unless there’s a fresh kill. and then when the sun comes up, it stops. at first i thought it was an owl–it was faint. so i opened the front door a crack and then they all started in…that’s creepy

      Do your coyotes howl when they hear sirens?
      We can go weeks without evidence of their presence but sirens at night seem to be irresistible to them. Then they howl & do their characteristic yipping. We used to see them occasionally but our neighbors see them more regularly when walking their Lab. In the last few years it seems like there are way more dogs living around here & maybe that has made the coyotes more discrete.

        we live so far out in the woods, that sirens don’t reach us–there would have to be a fire in the woods for them to hear sirens. most likely a kill or since it’s archery season, a hunter left the gutted remains and they were discovered.

    This Trophy was given to me by Deutsche Bank because they were so proud of the Loan they made. They had the best Lawyers, the smartest Loan Officers, and were thrilled to do business with “TRUMP.” Interest was fully paid every month (no payment ever missed!), never received a default notice, and if Interest came due on a weekend, I paid it on a Friday. If I had a Jury, I would win easily, but regardless, this is a case that should never have been brought. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!

          1. Brrrr…imagine the vet bills!!! He has had no vaccines and no healthcare in all the years I’ve had him – hasn’t needed it – so I can’t take the chance of exposing him to any diseases and he is declawed in front so….nope!

              1. Well, yeah, but that was back in 2015, when Mom first got him from the shelter. He hasn’t been out of the house, except in the yard and on the patio, since I brought him up here.

              3. Oh, he loved it. The problem was that even tho he is declawed in front, I discovered he can still climb trees. I looked out once and saw him way up the ash tree at the back fence line – it would have been a short jump for him to get over the fence and head out into the field – one place he ALWAYS wanted to go since the gray/white neighbor’s male cat hunts out there. Another reason I think he was a street cat at one time and a scrapper. Then it got so that every time I let him out, the first place he would head was the spot where the fence line butts up against the house – there is a small gap there, on both ends of the house. He was fully intent with getting out of the yard so that was when I put a stop to letting him outside. He has been satisfied since then with having the patio to wander around and sitting on the windowsill looking out over the yard and watching the birds.

Their goal is to arouse panic and fear as part of a psychological warfare [campaign] accompanying the occupation’s aggression against us.”

      Another message was posted on October 8 to a different Telegram channel: “”An important note: The occupation has been randomly sending audio and recorded messages to the phones of Gaza residents demanding that they leave their homes. We call on civilians to ignore such messages, which are aimed at arousing panic and fear and in the framework of a psychological warfare [campaign] accompanying the occupation’s aggression against our people.”

Still I hear nothing on Fox about overall fundamentalist Islam, just Hamas specifically or other specific terror groups, like ISIS….when are these people going to get their heads out of their asses about Islam???? THIS IS ISLAM – period!!! I know – I’m always the first to bring up those I’ve known personally that I also know are not jihadists. But the time is long past for them to fish or cut bait!       At the University of Pennsylvania, where I sit on the Wharton School’s Board of Overseers, leaders have for too long allowed this kind of anti-Jewish hate, which sanitizes Hamas’s atrocities, to infect their campuses. There must be consequences.

      I call on all UPenn alumni and supporters who believe we are heading in the wrong direction to close their checkbooks until President Liz Magill and Chairman Scott Bok resign.

      It took less than two weeks to go from the Palestine Writes Literary Festival at the University of Pennsylvania to the barbaric slaughter of innocent civilians in Israel. Foreshadowing Hamas’s massacre, speakers at the gathering—hosted by various university departments and affiliates—advocated ethnic cleansing of Jews, referred to them as “European settlers,” and repeated various blood libels.

      UPenn President Elizabeth Magill and Board Chair Scott Bok permitted UPenn to sponsor this conference and failed to condemn its hate-filled calls for violence. This is not a matter of free speech, but University-sponsored hate speech.

      Words and ideas matter. They mattered in the motivation of Hamas terrorists slaughtering more than 1,000 innocent civilians and kidnapping more than a hundred in their goal to annihilate Jews. In our viral, online world it is especially dangerous when once-fringe ideologies receive a stamp of legitimacy—especially from our elite academic institutions, which hold a special place in our society. By sponsoring the spread of the violent ideologies expressed in the Palestine Writes conference, they normalize and give their imprimatur to what would otherwise be considered morally reprehensible.

      UPenn is not alone in allowing this culture of hate to become mainstream. It is true for universities across the country. And it’s long past time for donors to take notice. Ultimately, the direction of these institutions is the responsibility of its president and its board of trustees.

      At UPenn, the embrace of double standards and the unacceptable status quo, which privileges antisemitism, did not begin on President Magill’s and Chairman Bok’s watch, but they are the protectors of it. Now they are now leading a purge of dissent. They have created a culture of intimidation and fear of speaking out against this status quo. At present, they are organizing attacks on me and my Jewish fellow trustees for speaking out.

      The responsibility also rests with many of our alumni leaders and trustees, myself included, who have sat by quietly as the pursuit of truth—the ostensible mission of our elite institutions—was traded for a poorly organized pursuit of social justice and political correctness. Sitting on the sidelines has undermined trust in academia, hindered the production and acquisition of knowledge, and, most troubling of all, allowed for calls of violence and slaughter against a minority group across campuses. We can accept that no longer.

      While the moral and human cost for what we have done to a generation of students cannot be calculated, the picture is ugly. The financial cost of these policies is large and increasing. Much of this loss is kept silent as acknowledging it endangers the status quo and would encourage questions in the direction of the university from trustees, alumni, and students.

      University communities, UPenn included, should not wait for the broken status quo to change. They should call for change from the top: 4,000 of us have already sent a message to President Magill and Chairman Bok about their moral failure to condemn the Palestine Writes hate-fest, but that is only the first step. Ultimately, we must change the culture that allows this to take place, a culture that does not deserve our financial support.”

It’s actually scary,” Fetterman told the “The Late Show” host.

  41. I guess it’s been 4 years now since my friend, Marilyn left. She gave me several things that her hubby made from brass – they both used to do all kinds of crafting and sell it. His specialty was brass and wood. One of the things she gave me was this brass carriage house – you wind it up and the horses and carriage move thru the inside, around the back, and thru again, round and round and round. I talked about it on the blog at the time. I have had it attached to the ladder in my patriotic display in front ever since. As you can see, it is terribly rusted now. I had it attached with zip ties around the ladder rung and it would occasionally slip and fall over. I’ve always been able to get it back in position; it was really pretty amongst the Clematis leaves and blooms.

    I went out to bring in the rest of the remaining melons (pic below) and noticed it had fallen over again and one of the zip ties had broken. So I took it down and brought it inside. After clearing out the old wasp nests in the inside, I thought – what the heck! Let’s see if this thing will still work. So I wound it up….lo’ and behold, the horses and carriage started moving, slowly at first, then it continued steadily, every now and then speeding up and flying around! Imagine that!!! Outside in the weather, with all that rust and it still works!!! I had to call Marilyn and tell her! She got a big laugh out of that! LOL

      1. Oh, he made some of the neatest stuff – bird feeders, whirly-gigs (I have one in the Vinca planter – the wings go up and down in the wind), planters, etc., etc., all kinds of different objects.

      2. I’ve got some Brasso and I’ll try to clean it up a bit over the winter. I’ll put it back out next spring with a more secure method to attach it.

Nicholas Haigh, who served as a Deutsche Bank risk management officer when Trump was applying for the loans answered questions for the court and it really didn’t sound like he did much for the prosecution’s case. There was plenty of banking industry technical lingo being thrown around, but the claim that Trump was somehow whitewashing his worth and fooling the banks isn’t holding up under scrutiny. Sure, Trump’s team tried to fluff up his assets to get the best deal possible, but Haigh’s testimony demonstrates that Deutsche Bank isn’t stupid and they wouldn’t still be in business if they were. They examined Trump’s claims when applying for loans and even pushed back when something didn’t seem kosher. He also confirmed that all the transactions played out smoothly, just as they had expected. (Associated Press)

    Donald Trump obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in loans using financial statements that a court has since deemed fraudulent, a retired bank official testified Wednesday at the former president’s New York civil fraud trial.

    Trump’s “statements of financial condition” were key to his approval for a $125 million loan in 2011 for his golf resort in Doral, Florida, and a $107 million loan in 2012 for his Chicago hotel and condo skyscraper, former Deutsche Bank risk management officer Nicholas Haigh testified…

    “I think the phrase we used might have been ‘sanity checks’ on the numbers,” he said.

    Contrary to the prosecution’s claims that Donald Trump had somehow pulled a fast one on the banks, Haigh testified that they frequently gave “sizable haircuts” to the values that Trump’s attorneys assigned to his properties. That’s what Haigh referred to as “sanity checks.” When Trump claimed his total worth was $4.3 billion, Deutsche Bank trimmed it down to $2.5 billion. (That’s a rather hefty “trim,” isn’t it?) Of Trump’s financial standing, Haigh testified that the “representations of the assets and liabilities were broadly accurate.”

    When estimating the value of undeveloped property that Trump was seeking a loan to develop, Deutsche Bank knocked 75% off of Trump’s claim in one case. They similarly slashed Trump’s claimed value of his golf courses in at least one instance. In the end, both parties agreed to the terms. The loans were made and they were repaid on schedule.

    And that’s the major point of the trial, isn’t it? In order for Letitia James and her friends to claim that Donald Trump “committed years of fraud,” then someone must have been defrauded. There would have to have been “victims.” And Nicholas Haigh was a highly placed individual with one of the supposed victims. They made the amount of money they expected to make on the schedule they agreed to. They were “satisfied.”
