What Shall We Bake Today?

Today’s offering combines chocolatey goodness with caramel and pecans—Turtle Bars! This recipe is quick and easy!

Ingredients

1 box German chocolate cake mix (any chocolate cake mix will do)

½ cup butter melted

¼ cup milk

1 cup chocolate chips (semi sweet, milk or dark, your choice)

1 cup chopped pecans divided

1 12 oz jar caramel ice cream topping

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°. Spray 9X13 with non-stick cooking spray.

Combine cake mix, butter and milk in large bowl and stir until well blended. Spread half of mixture in prepared pan.

Bake 7-8 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips and half of pecans on the baked crust. Drizzle with caramel topping. Drop spoonfuls of remaining batter over caramel, sprinkle with remaining pecans. Bake 18-20 minutes. Cool completely in pan. Refrigerate before slicing.

    Speaker McCarthy has informed Mitch McConnell that the House won’t be taking up the stop-gap government funding bill from the Senate.
    He says that he cannot support a bill that funds Ukraine but does nothing to fix the border:
    “NEW — MCCARTHY said he told MCCONNELL that he cannot take up a bill that funds Ukraine and doesn’t fix the border. In other words, if it wasn’t clear, the CR the Senate is taking up is dead on arrival in the House.   5. Sliding down before I read back – well, that was an interesting trip. Once again, in less than a mile, when I saw the fog bank I was headed into, I wished I had my camera…THAT was crrrrazy!!! For long stretches, I couldn’t see more than 100-200 feet in either direction! I almost turned around to get it, then got to the MG road and said, nah. Within 2 minutes, I saw the strangest thing I’ve ever seen!!!

    A stream had spread out into a pasture but it looked like snow. I did a double-take and then a third-take before I realized it was simply reflecting the fog above! Seriously!! IT LOOKED LIKE SNOW!! Oh, for my camera!!!! All along, I kept going thru patches of strange light from the sun shining thru the fog. VERY weird! Something you see on TV but never experience – well, now I have!!!

    Stopped to see Michael and had a nice chat. He has quit at the parts store – I knew it was a case of that or he’d get fired eventually! LOL – from what he was telling me, he lasted far longer than I would have! And he doesn’t HAVE to work so….while I was there, his landlord, Steve (whom I’ve met before) showed up to do some work on the land behind the house, and came over to tell both of us to go get a watermelon from his patch if we wanted one. I’m using the cantalope to lure Michael to get his ass up here so I told him he can bring me a watermelon at the same time! He is busying himself doing various renovation projects around the house.

    Chatted with people here and there at WM – had to get someone to help put the 40 lb. bag of bird seed in the cart! I had one of the cart guys load it into my truck. I had to p/u an ink cartridge for my printer and now, not only are they locked up, but you have to pay for them at that counter. When I got home and opened it, I could tell it was one that had been returned the way the wrapping was taped but it works so….it’s all good. Gas dropped to $3.89 in Pierce (was $3.99) but was $3.39 at the MG station. That’s Casey’s for you!!! Gouge, gouge, gouge!!!

    Jason, my new yard guy, called while I was at Michael’s to ask if I wanted him to do my yard today. I discussed my issue with his $60 charge, again reiterating that all I wanted was a quick-and-dirty mowing, nothing else; I laid out that if I was going to pay out $100/mo, it may as well be payments on a new mower, then I would have something in-hand for the $$$. He understood and we settled on $30 – I was thinking $25 but I can work with that. I explained that I was in MG and he said he would go ahead and swing by anyway – I warned him he would have to move the hose, and when I got home, it was all done! Nice and neat, with the hose up on the patio! I had asked about paying him and he said he’ll just swing by sometime and a check is fine. I’m thinking this will work out yet!!

      1. Yeah, I do but IDK how to transfer it to my computer….and IDW to use it for the internet either. It was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had! But these idiots on the road – big work trucks running with only their parking brake lights on – yeah, right – like THAT’S going to help!!! And some cars with no lights on at all – white cars that disappeared in the fog. But I can text it to Sis, who uses a smart phone and she can e-mail it to me. That crossed my mind but….I’m just going to make a point to drop my camera in my purse from now on.,

          1. I don’t want to connect my phone to the internet unless I absolutely, no way can avoid it. Just a “thing” with me….I’ve got a smart phone that Michael gave me way back in 2018….but IDK whether it’s 3G – if it is, it wouldn’t work anyway now.

  6. Ooops….went out for my daily melon check and one came loose that I know isn’t quite ripe enough yet. So I put it inside a paper bag and closed it – that will help it ripen faster. Haven’t a clue how long that will take so we’ll see – everything is an experiment these days! LOL
