Watermelons baskets are a simple but gorgeous addition to any summer festivity!

I found this brief tutorial on Living My New Simple Life.com.

Are you going to a cookout, picnic, or family get together this Memorial Day weekend?

I thought I would share something fun and easy to do that always wows everyone!

A watermelon basket filled with beautiful, colorful, fruit.

Here are the 4 steps that are easy to follow.

Step 1 – Place watermelon width-wise on a flat surface.  Roll melon until it settles into a position where it remains stable or cut a thin slice from the bottom to provide stability.  As shown, use strips of masking tape to mark lines of handle and rim of basket.

Step 2 – With a sharp knife, cut outline of handle, using outside edges of masking tape as a guide.  To make a scallop template, cut out a paper circle with scissors.  (The size of the melon determines the size of the circle.  The watermelon shown is small so the circle used is relatively small.)  Fold circle in half and cut along fold.  Starting on either side of handle, place the straight edge of one paper semicircle on top edge of masking tape that forms rim.  With a sharp pencil, trace a row of scallops along rim, stopping just before reaching ends of melon.  At each end, draw remaining scallop freehand, connecting the gap.

Step 3 – Using a sharp knife, cut into the watermelon along the scalloped pencil lines.  Next, cut a large wedge from the area on both sides of the handle, leaving about an inch above the scalloped rim.  Remove wedge, inserting knife behind the scallops, cut straight down into the melon close to the rind, cutting deep enough to release top part of rim.  Lift and discard.

Step 4 – Remove masking tape.  Scoop out watermelon from rind.  For a fruit basket, add a mixture of fresh fruit combined with watermelon cut into one-inch cubes or melon balls. I have never been able to make the watermelon balls so I always cut into cubes.

The finished look is really awesome.

    we replaced the coffee maker last night–the cheapest Mr Coffee was $17 for a 5 cup one–might be good for a single person (no, not you Filly, you drink it all day!). the most expensive? $289–it did everything but clean the floors.
    everyone of them is now programmable–or at least the ones they had. we didn’t even look at keurigs–yuck.
    the one we got has a stronger brew setting…LOL…wth?
    we’re using the old one this morning till hubby has a chance to read the instructions…

I hate the new, more expensive coffee makers – they all have a timer where they go off automatically…you know, for those idiots who leave home for the day and forget to turn it off? It was ok back in the days when I actually used to go places more than once or twice a month. Now, it was driving me nuts! I used to have one that went 4 hours before cutting off; when that one quit, I bought another pricey one but it cut off after only 2 hours! During a blizzard a few years ago, when my truck was in the shop and my coffee pot quit working, I walked up to Family Dollar and grabbed a 10-cup MisterCoffee for $10 – it doesn’t go off until I turn it off so that is the one I use now. Coffee pots don’t last long since my water softener system is turned off. It would cost more than I can afford to get it up and running again.

        yeah this one has a 4 hour timer too.
        i never thought about Family dollar–we have one in the next town…maybe a haha Christmas gift for hubby…LOL
        he was frantic when he broke ours…hoping i saved the old pot…lol

        1. Good to have as a back-up, for sure! I bought this one a few years ago so IDK if you can still get one w/o a timer but it’s worth looking, IMO.

          1. this one we bought has a brew no or brew later feature so we don’t have to use that function, but the automatic shut off is still there. but we only drink our coffee in the morning and shut it off when we’re done drinking–which usually is an empty pot.

    Adam Schiff certainly DEFRAUDED the US government by running an honest-to-God disinformation op with federal resources to target a sitting President with…a hoax.

    And Schiff knew it was a hoax.

    It took Trump making Grenell DNI to declassify the transcripts that Schiff and Nanshee hid from the public – some of them for more than 3 years – for Schiff’s lies to be exposed.

    i make turkey breasts a few times during the year, so i watch the prices. the last one i bought was in February: it was $2.28 a pound. (Just breasts are always more expensive than whole turkeys.)
    Around Thanksgiving, some stores offer specials of $.99 a pound for turkeys and I will occasionally get one to put in the freezer.
    last evening, I priced the turkey breasts–Butterball, frozen, they were $3.22 a pound!
    Thanksgiving is going to be nuts this year!

    Reading Bill Barr’s comments this morning about the latest indictment of Trump being a legitimate case. He’s really grasping at straws here.

    There is something seriously wrong with Bill Barr. His father apparently was a pervert who wrote graphic sex novels that depicted children being raped! This is not a conspiracy theory. It’s true. His father was also headmaster at the Dalton School in New York when Jeffrey Espstein was hired to teach there, with zero qualifications. Birds of a feather…

    I think that Bill Barr’s adult obesity and clear obsession with staying on the right side of power ties back to childhood trauma. He likely witnessed or experienced very inappropriate behavior on the part of his father that he repressed. This has manifested in adulthood as a persistent eating disorder combined with an irrational fear of ending up on the wrong side of very powerful people.

  45. I decided to check into pruning cantelope vines; if you prune off the smaller vines, you will get fewer, but much bigger, melons. So I took my nippers to the first 2 plants and cut them way back, while leaving the other 2 plants alone. I’d prefer having fewer and bigger melons, with ripening spaced out – staggering the planting will take care of that next year. I should have thought of doing that before now!

    Ms. Habba says that, by bringing the latest charges against Mr. Trump, the government is taking a number of risks.
    “When you bring a lawsuit, you now open the door to subpoenas. You now open the door to us being able to ask you questions about the legitimacy of the 2020 election, for us being able to look at things like that.”
    “So, you know, it’s a dangerous proposition, and I’m not sure it was well-thought-through, to be honest,” she said.
    Ms. Habba called the indictment “sloppy” and said the repeated prosecutions of Mr. Trump have made federal prosecutors’ political motivations very clear. “It’s for the headline, not for the win,” Ms. Habba said.

          1. and then he can appeal is what i read. if she is hostile to him–he will ask for change of venue–highlighting her campaign contributions and the hostility she has allowing him to a proper defense given the seriousness of the charges.

    2. OK, I’m getting the impression that the judge is very much involved – who is to stop her from instructing the Court Clerk NOT to issue subpoena’s on the grounds of “…national security…?

          1. no, i meant if she denies him subpoenas…
            i believe the first one she denies, gets this case to appeal and sanctions. you cannot disallow a defendant from defending themselves. she could lose everything
