Philadelphia has a well-earned reputation as a great sandwich city. How many other cities, after all, can lay claim, as Philadelphia does, to the invention of three iconic sandwiches? According to Visit Philadelphia, the city’s sandwich trinity is comprised of the hoagie, the roast pork sandwich, and the Philly cheesesteak, with their respective creations most likely occurring in that order. The roast pork sandwich, for instance, had its genesis in Italy, but the Philadelphia version was created by Domenico Bucci in 1930 in a South Philly eatery that’s now named for his son: John’s Roast Pork.
The hoagie is the only one of the three iconic sandwiches without a verifiable origin story. One theory, related by Visit Philadelphia, credits its birth around the turn of the 20th century to Italian-American dock workers at the Hog Island shipyard who reportedly referred to their oversized sandwiches as “hoggies”; a name that evolved into hoagies. If this is true, then members of Philadelphia’s thriving Italian-American community were responsible for inventing all three of the city’s iconic sandwiches. Italian migration to the city spiked during the latter half of the 19th century, notes The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia, with many newcomers settling in South Philadelphia where at least two of the three sandwiches were born.
As for the Philly cheesesteak, its origin elicits almost no arguments. Just about everybody in Philadelphia — outside rival cheesesteak restaurants — agrees about who invented this comfort food masterpiece and when.

It all started in 1930, when Pat Olivieri began operating a hot dog cart near the Italian Market in South Philadelphia, Philadelphia Magazine relays its oral history of the city’s most famous sandwich. As the story goes, one lunchtime that same year, Olivieri was in the mood for something else to eat and sent his brother to a local butcher shop for meat. Olivieri cooked the chopped beef on his cart’s grill, scooping it into an Italian roll with onions, according to Pat’s King of Steaks website (the namesake restaurant that Olivieri subsequently established across from the old hot dog stand). A passing cab driver was intrigued and asked for the same thing. Per the restaurant’s site, the cab driver reportedly said, “Hey … forget ’bout those hot dogs, you should sell these,” after scarfing the sandwich down.
From this propitious incident, a legend was born … or was it? The origin story for the Philly cheesesteak is noticeably absent of one crucial ingredient: Cheese. As Philadelphia Magazine explains, the Philly steak sandwich didn’t include cheese until the 1940s when a boozy restaurant manager at Pat’s King of Steaks named “Cocky Joe” Lorenza decided to add some provolone. That’s when the authentic Philly cheesesteak was born.
Nowadays, observes Visit Philadelphia, there are several acceptable Philly cheesesteak cheese options, including Cheeze Whiz and American cheese. Each has its share of diehard partisans, but given the history, provolone remains the most traditional option.

Pat’s note: Hubby prefers a chicken cheesesteak and I prefer a regular one minus the cheese, sauce and onions…LOL. Plain Jane out.

Morning All!
when we went home last weekend, we met with my daughter and granddaughter for lunch on the way in at Mark’s–a little college town eatery. They too make amazing steak sandwiches–so full of meat, it falls out of the roll as you eat it. (of course forks are provided, lol)
Mark’s has also been there for many, many years–in a row home on Main Street. college kids man the place now and it’s ALWAYS busy. even in summer and on winter breaks–that place hums.
(and my granddaughter swears by their peanut butter milkshakes!)

Morning, Pat! Woke up in my chair, squinted at the clock on the MW and thought it said 9 pm…well, shit! OK, roll over, go back to sleep…but I was tossing and turning so I finally got up – well, hell! Of course you can’t sleep any more! It’s 5 AM!!! Duh! LOL – been going thru e-mails. As for Philly cheesesteaks, I’ve never been a fan of any type of roast beef sandwich except Arby’s, which I discovered later in life. We would have them occasionally when I was growing up but they were just leftover slabs of roast beef with ketchup! Yuck!
Once I got myself together, about 6:15 I went out to feed GT and there he sits, waiting. He is mewing slightly (w/that sleepy blink that generally signifies affection) but so softly I can’t hear him, and he’s staying a little bit closer all the time. Refill the jelly feeder again – remember that case of jelly I bought? I only have 2 jars left of the 12!!! I expect by early August, the Orioles will be on their way so I’m not buying another case this year – I’ll just pick up some extra at the local store if need be for now.
Never did get any rain last night – passed right on by – but it’s really dark in the west this morning and it has started raining lightly. News last night claims we won’t even hit 80 tomorrow but it will be warmer up here – always is. Late in the day, I looked out at the mower and noticed that Jerry had come by at some point and taken the mower tire. I expect the same will happen when he brings it back – he’ll just put it on the mower and leave, then call to tell me the amount. Since his wife died, they don’t appear to send out bills any more. They also sold a portion of their building to some people who are opening a hardware store, which we need desperately since ours burned down a few years ago. Jerry has now been relegated to the back corner of the garage and I think he basically keeps it up just to have something to do.

Morning Filly!
at Roy Rogers restaurants, they used REAL ROAST BEEFS…not the pressed stuff. we came in at 6 am to get the roasts started for the lunch shift. arby’s is pressed beef so yeah, not the same taste at all.
i didn’t put out the jelly feeder today because I didn’t see a single bird there yesterday. But we are full of wild berry bushes this time of year…the bears LOVE them. i guess the birds do too. I figure if they get hungry, they will show up at the hummer feeders. if that happens, I’ll put the jelly back out.
awesome about GT!!!!!! he’s starting to trust you!

https://ca.style.yahoo.com/70-house-republicans-voted-cut-215132928.html
● Rep. Matt Gaetz offered an amendment to the annual defense bill to cut off all military aid to Ukraine.
● The measure easily failed — but 70 House Republicans voted for it.
● It offered the clearest sign yet of which lawmakers support ending all aid to the besieged country.
The amendment easily failed by a 358-70 margin, with all Democrats and a majority of Republicans opposing the measure…
Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, the sponsor of the amendment, acknowledged during the floor debate on the measure earlier on Thursday that the purpose of offering the measure was primarily to put lawmakers on record.
“My amendment is going to lose overwhelmingly when it is put up for a vote,” said Gaetz. “But the American people will see who wants to represent them, and who wants to represent Crimea.”
At the link is a graphic showing the 70 Repubs who voted to cut off military aid to Ukraine. (I’m not able to post it here.) A lot of them are Freedom Caucus members.

–An amendment that prohibits the DoD from funding travel to get abortions was adopted.
–Amendments prohibiting DoD funds toward transgender surgeries PASSES
— amendment to prohibit funds for DoD from being used to promote CRT PASSES, 227-201
Some bad ones passed too, unfortunately…mosting concerning the Ukraine war.

How the migrant crisis is sparking an American civil war: TODD BENSMAN’s dispatch from a militarized Texas farm – where Biden’s federal agents are sabotaging the state’s desperate border enforcement
U.S. Border Patrol leased a private pecan farm, at taxpayer expense, to help them process illegal immigrants entering America through Eagle Pass, Texas

The BEST EVER beef sandwich in the whole wide world – is the BEEF PO BOY – with onions and lots of garlic and brown ROUX gravy that was served at the little roadside restaurant in Thibodaux, LA.
The ROUX – carefully slowly browned flour – cooked in bacon fat or butter until it’s dark reddish brown – makes the best ever gravies, gumbos, beef stews, jambalayas, etc. The beef was a good thinly sliced roast beef – not too fat, not too lean – just right.
And the Po Boy should be served on a real French Bread Baguette!
And it should be accompanied by a bottle, can or glass of good beer.

and then there’s Milley—note the sentence WORDS TO THE EFFECT OF…those are Milley’s words—he’s making that up–he said/she said is NOT evidence

NEW: House Oversight member, Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, has confirmed that the “unnamed” foreign national who allegedly bribed Joe and Hunter Biden with $10 million, was none other than Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky.
The now infamous FBI FD-1023 form provide by Wray had redacted Zlochevsky’s name but detailed a $10 million bribe to the Bidens with someone connected to Burisma.
Putting it all together…
We know that Zlochesvsky was already paying Hunter an exorbitant sum, $83,000/mo, to sit on the board of his Ukrainian energy company.
We know Zlochevsky was facing a corruption investigation in Ukraine by prosecutor Viktor Shokin.
We know then-Vice President Joe Biden accused Shokin of corruption.
We know that then-VP Biden successfully threatened to pull a $1 billion US loan guarantee as leverage to push for Shokin’s removal.
We know Shokin was replaced by Yuriy Lutsenko, who cleared Zlochevsky and Burisma of criminal charges in 2019.
We know that Zlochevsky and his associates were eventually charged in 2020 for attempting $6 million in bribes to halt the ongoing investigation (the guy has a history of bribes).
And we know that Zlochevsky was a rich, corrupt foreign oligarch who needed the type of help only connected, corrupt DC cronyism could deliver.
And it all points to one conclusion: Joe and James and Hunter were willing to sell out American interests to keep the Ukrainian money flowing.
And now hundreds of billions of your taxpayer money is flowing back to Ukraine.
Get it, now?

at every level…corruption. 3 TSA officers in Florida steal from passengers
FTA
Three TSA officers at Miami International Airport were arrested last week for allegedly stealing from airline passengers, including swiping hundreds of dollars in cash from a man’s wallet.
Josue Gonzalez, 20; Elizabeth Fuster, 22; and Labarrius Williams, 33, were charged with organized scheme to defraud, according to Miami-Dade county jail records. They were booked into Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center.
The arrest affidavits state that Miami International Airport authorities began investigating several reports of theft at Security Checkpoint E, where the officers were stationed.
Gonzalez, Fuster and Williams were captured on surveillance footage working together to steal from passengers as they went through routine TSA screening checks, arrest reports show, according to NBC Miami.

Security footage at the checkpoint reportedly showed that while some of the officers attempted to distract passengers as they went through screenings, the others would rifle through passengers’ belongings in search of money.
In one instance, the three culprits managed to steal $600 from a single passenger’s wallet. Cameras reportedly caught them engaging in multiple other instances of theft.

startling? anonymous dark money isn’t startling, it’s sinister
entire article
The former chief investigator for the Department of Education said the agency noticed a “startling” spike in Chinese donations to the University of Pennsylvania after President Joe Biden opened his think tank at the school in 2017.
“It was extraordinary,” said Paul Moore, who served as the agency’s chief investigative counsel during the Trump administration, in congressional testimony on Thursday. UPenn raked in over $100 million from China-based contributors between 2017 and 2022, the Washington Free Beacon reported earlier this year. This was a substantial increase from the four years prior to 2017, when the school received a total of $19 million.
Moore’s testimony comes as UPenn and the Penn Biden Center face scrutiny over the surge in foreign donations, many of them anonymous, that coincided with the think tank’s opening and President Joe Biden’s election. Watchdog groups have said the funding raises concerns about foreign influence-buying.
UPenn has said that no foreign donations were earmarked for the Penn Biden Center and that the think tank is supported by the school’s general budget. But Moore said that foreign contributions to UPenn’s general fund could have made their way to the Penn Biden Center indirectly.
“Those funds were co-mingled, and certainly went to the general operations, and may have gone to the Biden Center,” he said.
Rep. Jim Banks (R., Ind.) asked Moore if other universities saw similar increases in Chinese funding. Under federal law, schools that receive government support are required to disclose their overseas donations to the Department of Education.
“Not in that time frame. Absolutely not,” said Moore, adding that while other schools saw an uptick in China donations, none saw an increase to the same extent as UPenn.
“It was particularly startling to see with UPenn what they had received. That was very notable,” he said.
The former Education Department official told the committee that his office declined to investigate the donations because there was no evidence that UPenn was violating any of the agency’s laws by accepting the funding.
“Members of Congress wrote to us, urging us to open an investigation,” he said. “It would have been a very political thing, inappropriate, frankly, for the office of general counsel.”
Several high-profile Biden officials worked at the think tank before joining the administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who served as the Penn Biden Center’s director.
The National Legal and Policy Center, a government watchdog group, has said the donations raise concerns about foreign influence-buying and called on the Department of Education to release the names of the anonymous funders.
“The Department of Education’s policy of hiding the identities of foreign entities showering our universities with billions of dollars is promoting a toxic brew of dark money and corruption,” Tom Anderson, the director of the center’s Government Integrity Project, told the Free Beacon in January.

I have been saying this for many years, especially after losing my daughter partially due to this BS!!! The same doctor did the same thing to another mid-30’s woman I met here when I was working at SM. Got her hooked on fentanyl then dropped her when the insurance quit paying – next think you know, she’s lost her children and husband and is wandering the streets in the middle of the night in a meth haze! Despicable! AND HE IS STILL PRACTICING IN NORFOLK!!!! I had a little chat with her – it was less than a year after HB died and I wanted her to know there WAS a way out, that I didn’t want to hear that she had died, too. I like to think that helped her Father and another local friend get her straightened out. She got clean, repaired her marriage and was reunited with her children. She actually came into SM about a year later – made a special trip here from Norfolk – to come back and show me that she had done it! I was sooo happy for her and thought that at least SOME good came of all that heartache I endured!
“Study Debunks the Theory that Depression is Caused by a Chemical Imbalance in the Brain – America’s Problem with Criminal Drug Dealers”

by Brian Shilhavy
Editor, Health Impact News
EXCERPT: “America has a huge drug addiction problem, where drug dealers are literally destroying this country. No, I am not referring to fentanyl, meth, crack, heroin, or any other “illegal street drug” and the people who push them. I am referring to the much larger drug addiction problem with drugs that are distributed by a much larger drug dealer network: FDA-approved and authorized prescription drugs.
This is, by far, the largest criminal organization in the world. The pharmaceutical drugs distributed by medical doctors and purchased in drug stores that are on the corner of every city and town in America, are what is destroying this country. These drugs are the leading cause of death in the United States, and their drug dealers are the largest class of criminal organizations in the world. “Nick Bryant’s Crusade To Expose Child Trafficking and Pedophilia: ‘The Franklin Network was around for about 12 years. The Epstein Network was around for about 25 years.’”
CELIA FARBER
JUL 13, 2023
EXCERPT: “The late 80s and 90s were rough years for people to make accusations of pedophilia. Media of the left and right alike were debunking an array of scandals involving nursery schools around the country (most notoriously the McMartin Preschool in California). The charges of child abuse were often bizarre as well as horrifying, and were ultimately dismissed in court as Salem witch trial hysteria and the accused exonerated. “False memory syndrome” entered the language as a new psychological disorder and proved useful for understanding odd claims of “recovered memory” in many areas.
…“But in Omaha during the first Bush presidency, with the nursery school scandals losing credibility around the country, almost the entire Omaha establishment closed ranks to discredit the accusers. By establishment, I mean the Omaha Police Department, Nebraska State Police, FBI, local and state judiciary, local and state and national media. Against them stood a few teenagers, most of them with drug problems, long rap sheets and traumatized brains. Their allies were some foster care supervisors and parents, plus a divided investigative committee in the Nebraska legislature. Under phenomenal pressure, the teenagers either retracted their testimony of sexual abuse or were crushed in court and sentenced to years in prison for perjury. Key figures in the case ended up dead in numbers that would astound any actuary but apparently interested no one in Omaha law enforcement.
“Many years after all this was seemingly resolved in court, my friend Nick decided in 2002 it was a story. I confess that I tried to discourage him. It wasn’t timely, I said. The pedophiles were still out there in the news today, he said. Nobody’s going to believe it, I said. But there’s been an injustice, he said. You’re going to end up dead in a motel room, I said. That’s not definite, he said.
“Nobody accepted his proposals for a magazine article, so he started making trips to Nebraska on his own dime. Nobody accepted the complete magazine article he subsequently wrote. He decided to write a book and made more trips to Nebraska.
“I told him that the best possible outcome would be that the book was completely ignored. Look what happened to Gary Webb, I said. The New York Times and Washington Post ran him out of journalism for exposing the CIA connection to cocaine smuggling. Webb committed suicide. There’s nothing a major newspaper hates more than a scoop, I said, unless it’s a scoop that exposes the major newspaper blew another story of grave importance. But the story is true, Nick said again, and the real villains are still out there.”

“This isn’t “conspiracy theory.” It’s one of the best investigative books I’ve ever read. “57 Banks and Financial Institutions Certified for FedNow Instant Payments – Fed President Admits Withdrawals Can be Limited”
by Brian Shilhavy
Editor, Health Impact New
EXCERPT: “57 “early adopter organizations” have now been certified to participate in the U.S. Federal Reserve’s FedNow instant payments program that will be rolled out later this month (July, 2023).
On June 29, 2023, the Federal Reserve announced that 57 early adopter organizations, including financial institutions and service providers, had completed formal testing and certification on the FedNow Service in advance of its launch in late July. Many of these organizations will be live when the FedNow Service launches or shortly after, with financial institutions ready to send and receive transactions and service providers ready to support transaction activity.
This group of early adopters is now performing final trial runs on the service to confirm their readiness to support live transactions over the new instant payments infrastructure. The early adopters include 41 financial institutions participating as senders, receivers and/or correspondents supporting settlement, 15 service providers processing on behalf of participants, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
In addition to the initial adopters, the Federal Reserve continues to work with and onboard financial institutions and service providers planning to join later in 2023 and beyond, as the initial step to growing a robust network aimed at reaching all 10,000 U.S. financial institutions. (Source.)
Here is the list of organizations that have completed certification in the FedNow Service:
————
‘Cleveland Federal Reserve President Loretta Mester stated yesterday that the FedNow program “should help ensure financial stability should bank stress arise,” by limiting withdrawals.” Cleveland Federal Reserve President Loretta Mester said on Wednesday that the U.S. central bank’s new real-time money moving system is being designed in a way that should help ensure financial stability should bank stress arise.
Mester acknowledged concerns that FedNow, a real-time, all-hours payment system the central bank is making available to banks, could exacerbate banking troubles by facilitating fast outflows from financial institutions, in effect super-charging a potential bank run. She said it will be up to the users of FedNow themselves to use transfer limits.
“Banks have tools they could use to mitigate large outflows of deposits,” including limiting how much money can be moved over a given period, restricting who can use the system, and firms can determine which direction money can flow in real time, Mester said in a speech to the National Bureau of Economic Research Summer Institute.

I wonder how the Federal Reserve is defining “customer type”?”

“Dark to Light–Q, Anons and the End of the Beginning”

BURNING BRIGHT
JUL 14, 2023
(Author’s Note: This piece represents a thematic follow-up to two of the most popular features yet at Burning Bright, ‘We Are Q,’ and ‘The Darkest Path,’ and while it stands alone in the current context of the Info War, it may be best read in conjunction with that deeper dive on the Op that started it all for many of us. Additionally, I’d like to point readers new and old to a series written by friend and peer Chris Paul entitled, ‘A Story About Reality,’ which explores the same Op in the way only our favorite moderator can.)
EXCERPT: “The Great Awakening is a framed narrative.
We knew the end of the story from the outset, even if challenges of faith and seven years of psychological warfare by a deeply-entrenched, increasingly desperate satanic cabal has put that framing into question for each of us at times.
And yes, in case you couldn’t tell, this feature is going to be a bit more direct than some of my others—at least, as direct as a stream of consciousness writing can be—because the subject matter demands it, and because, as argued in many recent features, posts and appearances, we must always strive to argue from a position of strength, both of belief and of logic, and reject enemy framing wherever possible, especially where it concerns the core of their subversive empire, and the pillar that must be chipped, cracked and eventually—perhaps soon—shattered en route to bringing the whole corrupt, diseased temple down upon their heads.”

Dayum! They’re going mobile now!!!
NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Welcome Center on Interstate 95 was shut down and evacuated on Thursday afternoon after the Florida Highway Patrol discovered what is believed to be a mobile methamphetamine lab during a traffic stop, according to News 6 partner WJXT-TV.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office posted photos just after 2 p.m. that showed hazardous material crews surrounding and pulling materials out of a silver car in the parking lot.”

oh yeah…the interstates are notorious. and it’s just a coincidence that the bridge in Philly that caught fire? wasn’t that I95? and gees what explodes and causes fires? could it be meth labs?
when i was in local gov’t, the police chief always went on this state sponsored meth lab detection seminar. lasted 3 or 4 days, borough paid for. his family member lived nearby so we didn’t pay for housing–but all meals and such were paid for the family in exchange. oh and nearby was a local casino the officer frequented.
one year a meth lab exploded IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD. $$ spent well, right?

I think the bridge collapse was a tanker truck – I guess they could outfit one with a meth lab. I just don’t know diddly squat about meth nor do I want to – haven’t since I tried it in ’82 or ’83 and I literally thought I was going to die!!! O.M.G!!! THE worst reaction I’ve ever had to any drugs! I do know the bad reaction was partially because the guy who gave it to me was a friend of my hubby’s in the Army and he wanted to impress me. I hadn’t clicked with him – at all – so he gave me more than he should have, not considering my weight. Oh, it was really bad! I couldn’t eat for weeks, I couldn’t stand up w/o getting faint for weeks….I want nothing to do with it or anyone who uses!!!

one small female hummer. the others constantly team up to prevent her from landing and feeding. so I’ve been going out when i see her land on the railing outside the window. I hold the feeder and she sits on my thumb and feeds. the others won’t come near me–they fly at my head–but I’m bigger…lol
she gets a good long drink and then flies away.

Me: How much does the military spend on Viagra each year?
Director of Defense Contracts: I don’t have that figured out.
Me: about $41.6 million.
Do you know how many bridges in my District of Pittsburgh could be repaired with that amount?
Military boners are ruining Pittsburgh, indirectly. https://t.co/56KJaDFhu9

needs to happen! taxpayers’ should NOT be on the hook for that!
someone mentioned bankruptcy and i opposed it. however it does mean they will have that in their history–and will have to work hard to get that off their credit history…who knows?
i want the freaking colleges on the hook–they’re the ones benefiting!!!
and how about an AUDIT of how your previous semester’s LOAN was used—if not for tuition, food or housing, then you don’t get ANOTHER loan. these kids using it for clothes, vacations, cars–that’s bullshit!

Children from rich families, who can CLEARLY afford their insane tuition, should be barred from ANY school loans – period! I might even consider requiring US citizenship….but that wouldn’t fly, I expect.
