These Strawberry Pretzel Dessert Jars are perfect for picnics!

Ingredients

2 cups crushed pretzels (about 8 ounces)

3/4 cup butter, melted

3 tablespoons sugar

FILLING:

2 cups whipped topping

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1 cup sugar

TOPPING:

2 packages (3 ounces each) strawberry gelatin

2 cups boiling water

2 packages (16 ounces each) frozen sweetened sliced strawberries, thawed

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°. In a small bowl, combine pretzels, butter and sugar; spread onto a baking sheet. Bake until crisp and lightly browned, 12-15 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack; break into small pieces.

For filling, in a small bowl, beat whipped topping, cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Refrigerate until chilled.

For topping, in a large bowl, dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Stir in sweetened strawberries; chill until partially set, about 1 hour. Carefully layer pretzel mixture, filling and topping into 4-oz. glass jars. Chill until firm, at least 2 hours. If desired, serve with additional whipped topping and pretzels.

    1. Morning, Pat! Dang! Even I could make something like that. You’re right – graham crackers would be the norm but I would think pretzels would bring the salty flavor.

Ooooh, that one about wearing cheap clothes…when we first moved back to Madison, NE in 1988, I enrolled HB in the Christian school (she was 8), which was only a couple of blocks from our house. We’ve always been strapped for $$$ so clothes were bought at K-Mart back then. WalMart hadn’t yet taken them out of the game. The kids at that school teased her unmercifully about that….at a Christian school….one kid followed her home and took her bike from her, throwing it into the street. I spoke to the Principal and he facilitated a meeting between myself and the kid’s parents. He apologized – obviously begrudgingly – and agreed to leave her alone. But the other adults all tried to pooh-pooh it, with the “Kids will be kids” BS. After that, my nephew started walking her home.

          We had none of that when we moved to Stanton – again, I enrolled her in the Christian school – this time only a block from our house – and the atmosphere was TOTALLY different. Much friendlier and more welcoming. There’s not but about 20-25 miles between the 2 towns and both churches were WELS! That’s also where she would go out to play and roam the neighborhood, and talked about her friend, “Jim,” a man she had met whose wife gave her cookies. Hmmm….who was this man? Where does he live? Shrug: “I don’t know!”

          A few days after that, she came home with a kitten she had found and wanted to keep. Nope – we were into the dog phase then – so I told her no. She got all huffy and stomped off, saying “Jim will help me!” Nothing more was said – went thru our normal evening routine of supper, bed time, etc. I had just settled down on the couch for MY “relaxation” when I hear a knock at the front door. So I answered the door and who do I find? The Chief of Police….oh, shit!!!! The one who still walked the downtown streets every night and checked every door on every business to ensure it was locked.

          When he asked for HB, I told him she was in bed and he said to give her this message: “Tell her Jim found a home for the kitten!” Holy crap! Her friend!!!!

When I turned on the TV to Newsmax earlier, they were interviewing people about DOJ going after Trump – as we expected, just makes him MORE popular – but one black gal suggested Trump running with RFK as VP…..that would bring some dems on board but…how dangerous would he be in that position? I don’t like his oh-so-willing participation with the Hollyweird crowd – that wife of his!!!! Not to mention his being on-board with climate change….but IDK how far he goes on that. Does he also believe CO-2 is a bad thing? Is HE worried about cattle farts and burps?? He is dead on-target about the pollutants in our environment but….how far would he take that? Where does he stand on the UN, NATO, Ukraine/Russia, etc., etc.? The Kennedy clan….well, just look at the history.

    1. The milestone listed is 400K – sales are at 386,518. But it’s too early for the Norfolk theatre. I called them when this came up a month or so ago and they don’t plan that far ahead, allegedly. But they are part of a chain so….we’ll see…

    The news: House Oversight Chair James Comer and Rep. Jamie Raskin, the panel’s top Democrat, met with FBI officials on Tuesday to review two documents mentioned in a 2020 document, known as an FD-1023, that is now at the heart of the GOP’s Biden family investigation.

    The 2020 document relates to a conversation a confidential human source had about an alleged bribe Ukrainian gas company Burisma offered to then-Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden.

    What Comer (R-Ky.) said: “This time in the in the SCIF with the FBI was a complete waste of my time because so much of the documents were redacted and they didn’t have the right dates that match the footnote in the original document. So we’re gonna expect the FBI to come back with the correct dates and the non-redacted version,” Comer said.

    Comer said based on the 2020 document the FBI should have brought a document from 2017 and a document from 2018. Instead, the Kentucky Republican said they brought two 2017 documents that were more than 50 percent redacted.

    “All I know is it mentioned, Hunter Biden, Burisma and there was some type of investigation with respect to fraud taking place, but there was so much redacted,” Comer said about the documents he viewed Tuesday.

    What Dems said: After the briefing, Raskin (D-Md.) said the two documents “are even further afield” from the GOP’s Joe Biden investigation.

    “They don’t add anything to the claims of corruption,” Raskin said.

    Raskin declined to say what the memos were about, if they were not about corruption. But he did acknowledge that “there was a brief non-relevant mention of Hunter Biden as a member of the board of Burisma, and identified him as the son of Joe Biden.”

    In other investigative news: Both Comer and Raskin said they did not get an explanation of U.S. Attorney David Weiss’s Hunter Biden investigation, the plea deal or what in the probe remains “ongoing.”

    Four children living in squalid conditions while being hidden from first responders were found in an apartment filled with “alcohol, drugs, sex toys” and a dead man, according to an incident report and outraged officials.

    “This is sickening,” said At-Large City Councilor Michael Flaherty. “I was informed by people at the scene that there were drugs, alcohol, sex toys all around the apartment as well as a dead body on the floor.”

    That fire department report, obtained by the Herald and confirmed by police response, states that a BFD crew was sent to Old Colony Avenue Saturday morning for a call that a man had gone into cardiac arrest and required medical attention. That address is the Mary Ellen McCormack Housing complex run by the city.

    However, according to the incident report, firefighters found more than just a routine medical emergency.

    “The apartment was in extremely unsanitary conditions. Approximately 6 adults, who appeared to be males, were seen in the apartment,” they wrote, saying they subsequently found “four children in the back bedroom being hidden by an adult male from first responders.”

    According to the incident report the children ranged from ages 5 to 10.

    “All of the adult parties were being uncooperative and did not provide helpful information. All adults present denied having children inside the apartment,” they wrote.

    Fire crews say they filed a “51A form with the appropriate state agency.”

    A 51A form is available for download from the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families and is titled “Report of Child(ren) Alleged to be Suffering from Abuse or Neglect.” (snip)

    Multiple sources tell the Herald some of the adults were dressed as women when first responders arrived at the scene.

    Both people and institutions in healthcare want to do right by patients, but they cannot. The masters they serve are government bureaucrats and insurance executives, not sick people.

    Your doctor doesn’t choose your medication; a pharmacy benefits manager does. You don’t choose your doctor; a health plan does. The patient gets the authorized procedure, not necessarily what is judged medically best for that patient. The hospital schedules (effectively delays) your operation based on what the insurance company process dictates. And patients wait interminably for care because of provider shortages created by low federal “allowable reimbursement schedules,” AKA payments for services rendered. Death by queue — dying while waiting in line for care not delivered in time — has become commonplace in the U.S.”

    If an investigation isn’t ‘pending’ any longer then the #DOJ can’t stiff-arm those looking for more information as the case isn’t an ‘ongoing investigation’.

    Perhaps that was the point all along. Yes, Hunter is a complete degenerate. But what if he’s been working with white hats for some time now.

    I reckon what we think we know and what’s actually going down are rather different things – the question is by how much?

        1. Well, as with everything with the VA, that got fubarred! Turns out, they sent the scans from here immediately after they were done and they’ve been sitting in my file in Omaha. They simply filed them and didn’t tell Norfolk that they were ready. So now the doctor will look at them and they will call me NLT tomorrow afternoon….

            1. Since this particular test has to be ordered out of Omaha, that’s where they sent the results. Had they been sent directly to Norfolk, I most likely would have heard from them by the next day! But Omaha didn’t even notify Norfolk they had arrived.

    You could make a version of this recipe with caramel sauce, vanilla pudding, and toasted chopped pecans to accent that pretzel sweet/salty taste. Add chocolate to that for another variation.
