Gruesome Anniversary

Today, June 12th, is the 111th anniversary of gruesome murders in Iowa.  Eight people, including 6 children were bludgeoned with an axe.  Worse yet, the murders remain unsolved. I found this article on allthatsinteresting.com website.

The Gruesome Story Of The Unsolved Villisca Axe Murders

By Katie Serena | Edited By John Kuroski

Updated September 29, 2022

On June 10, 1912, all eight people inside the Moore family’s house in Villisca, Iowa — including two adults and six children — were murdered by an axe-wielding assailant.

At the end of a quiet street in Villisca, Iowa, there sits an old white frame house. Up the street, there are a group of churches, and a few blocks away is a park that faces a middle school. The old white house looks like many of the others that fill the neighborhood, but unlike them, it lies abandoned. The house emits no light or sound, and upon closer inspection, the doors are found to be tightly boarded up. A small sign out front reads: “Villisca Axe Murder House.”

Despite its ominous air, the little white house was once filled with life, life that was harshly stamped out one warm summer’s night in 1912, when a mysterious stranger broke in, and viciously bludgeoned its eight sleeping inhabitants to death. The event would come to be known as the Villisca Axe Murders and it would baffle law enforcement for over a century.

The Brutal Story Of How The Villisca Axe Murders Unfolded

On June 10, 1912, the Moore family was sleeping peacefully in their beds. Joe and Sarah Moore were asleep upstairs, while their four children were resting in a room down the hall. In a guest room on the first floor were two girls, the Stillinger sisters, who had come for a sleepover.

Shortly after midnight, a stranger entered through the unlocked door (not an uncommon sight in what was considered a small, safe, friendly town), and plucked an oil lamp from a nearby table, rigging it to burn so low it supplied light for barely one person. On one hand, the stranger held the lamp, lighting the way through the house.

In his other, he held an axe.

Ignoring the sleeping girls downstairs, the stranger made his way up the stairs, guided by the lamp, and a seemingly unerring knowledge of the home’s layout. He crept past the room with the children, and into Mr. and Mrs. Moore’s bedroom. Then he made his way to the children’s room, and finally back down to the bedroom downstairs. In each room, he committed some of the grisliest murders in American history.

Then, as quickly and silently as he had arrived, the stranger left, taking keys from the home, and locking the door behind him. The Villisca Axe Murders may have been quick, but as the world was about to discover, they were unimaginably horrifying.

The Horrors Of The Villisca Murders Come To Light

The next morning, the neighbors became suspicious, noticing that the usually rambunctious home was dead quiet. They alerted Joe’s brother, who arrived to take a look. What he saw after letting himself in with his own key was enough to make him sick.

Everyone in the house was dead, all eight of them bludgeoned beyond recognition.

The police determined that the Moore parents had been murdered first, and with obvious force. The axe that had been used to kill them had been swung so high above the murderer’s head that it gouged the ceiling above the bed. Joe alone had been hit with the axe at least 30 times. The faces of both parents, as well as the children, had been reduced to nothing but a bloody pulp.

The state of the bodies wasn’t the most concerning part, however, once the police had searched the home.

After murdering the Moores, the killer had apparently set up some kind of ritual. He had covered the Moore parent’s heads with sheets, and the Moore children’s faces with clothing. He then went through each room in the house, covering all of the mirrors and windows with cloths and towels. At some point, he took a two-pound piece of uncooked bacon from the fridge and placed it in the living room, along with a keychain.

A bowl of water was found in the home, spirals of blood swirling through it. Police believed that the murderer had washed his hands in it before leaving.

By the time the police, the coroner, a minister, and several doctors had thoroughly perused the crime scene, word of the vicious crime had spread, and the crowd outside the home had grown. Officials cautioned the townspeople against going inside, but as soon as the premises was clear at least 100 townspeople gave in to their gross fascinations and traipsed through the blood-spattered home.

One of the townspeople even took a fragment of Joe’s skull as a keepsake.

Who Committed The Villisca Axe Murders?

As for the perpetrator of the Villisca Axe Murders, the police had shockingly few leads. A few half-hearted efforts to search the town and surrounding countryside were made, though most officials believed that with the roughly five-hour head start that the killer had had, he would be long gone. Bloodhounds were brought in, but with no success, as the crime scene had been fully demolished by the townspeople.

A few suspects were named over time though none of them panned out. The first was Frank Jones, a local businessman who had been in competition with Joe Moore. Moore had worked for Jones for seven years in the farm equipment sales business before leaving and starting his own rival business.

There was also a rumor that Joe was having an affair with Jones’ daughter-in-law, though the reports were unfounded. The townspeople insist, however, that the Moores and the Joneses harbored a deep hatred for each other, though no one admits it was bad enough to spark murder.

The second suspect seemed far more likely and even confessed to the murders – though he later recanted claiming police brutality.

Lyn George Jacklin Kelly was an English immigrant, who had a history of sexual deviancy and mental problems. He even admitted to being in town the night of the Villisca Axe Murders and admitted that he had left early in the morning. Though his small stature and meek personality led some to doubt his involvement, there were certain factors police believed made him the perfect candidate.

Kelly was left-handed, which police determined from blood spatters that the killer must be. He also had a history with the Moore family, as many had seen him watching them while at church and out and about in town. A dry cleaner in a nearby town had received bloody clothing from Kelly a few days after the murders. He reportedly also asked police for access to the home after the crime while posing as a Scotland Yard officer.

At one point, after a long interrogation, he eventually signed a confession detailing the crime. However he almost immediately recanted, and a jury refused to indict him.

The Case Goes Cold And The Villisca Axe Murders House Becomes A Tourist Attraction

For years, police looked into every possible scenario that could have culminated in the Villisca Axe Murders. Was it a single attack, or part of a larger string of murders? Was it likelier to be a local perpetrator, or a traveling killer, simply passing through town and taking an opportunity?

Soon, reports of similar enough crimes happening throughout the country began to pop up. Though the crimes were not quite as gruesome, there were two common threads – the use of an axe as the murder weapon, and the presence of an oil lamp, set to burn extremely low, at the scene.

Despite the commonalities, however, no actual connections could be made. The case eventually ran cold, and the house was boarded up. No sale was ever attempted, and no changes were made to the original layout. Now, the house has become a tourist attraction and sits at the end of the quiet street as it always has, while life goes on around it, undeterred by the horrors that were once committed within.

    1. Morning, Pat! Meh – what’s one typo?!? One of those weird murder mysteries…seems really silly to me to let a good house sit and go to waste but I’m not “sensitive” about such things. LOL

Mostly cloudy so far, with some fog/mist in the distance. 67 at the moment – last night’s weather predicts more rain and cooling temps – next Monday morning, I think, they’re saying a low in the high 40’s! Yeah, IDT that’s gonna happen but you never know here….

I took the 2 cantaloupe seedlings to Lois, suggesting she leave them in the buckets until they get nice and big – they have holes in the bottom for drainage. I also filled them in on all my health drama and progress. She had a good laugh – I think Oran can’t hear most of what is being said but he nods and smiles periodically. LOL – altho, he was quite interested when I first revealed what was in the buckets.

Later, when I get them in place, I’ll post a pic of a jimmyrig I came up with to protect the cantaloupe vines from the bunnies. They are growing fast now and will quickly outgrow those buckets; they also need the direct sunlight vs. filtered.

    Laura Loomer:

I literally am flying back from the West Coast to Miami early so I can support President Trump outside of the courthouse on Tuesday.

Every single GOP member of Congress, @SpeakerMcCarthy

, and every GOP candidate for President should be there on Tuesday as well to support President Trump.

It is an ABOMINATION what is happening in our country and I am disgusted that Republicans like @RonDeSantis

view this as an opportunity to campaign for President instead of dropping out and standing in solidarity with Donald Trump.

It is time to put pettiness aside for the sake of combatting the regime and weaponized government.

Let’s see who shows up on Tuesday to stand with President Trump.

    I know I will be there. #Trump2024

These photos were included in the DOJ indictment to allege President Trump was “careless” with his documents

First of all, where are the pictures of Joe Biden’s garage and Hillary’s home email server?

But more importantly, Mar a Lago is a locked down fortress

They have armed Secret Service at the entrance checking IDs, only club members and their guests are allowed, there are security cameras everywhere, and agents are stationed at almost every corner where people are allowed to go (which is less than 10% of the entire property)

If President Trump is in the area, the Secret Service presence increases drastically

No pictures are allowed anywhere on the premises by guests and that policy is strictly enforced

You can’t use the wrong bathroom without a Secret Service agent stopping you

These photographs clearly show either a) documents in transit to secure locations or b) their place in a secure closet

You can’t find a gum wrapper out of place in Mar a Lago, never mind boxes of documents strewn about

These photos are a blatant smear by the DOJ

I’ve carefully reviewed the indictment of Trump by his political opponents at the Biden Justice Department. (.@JudicialWatch
has nearly 30 years of experience litigating federal and presidential records issues, including the famous “Clinton sock drawer” case.) The document dishonestly ignores the U.S. Constitution, the Presidential Records Act, legal precedent, and the DOJ’s/Archives’ previous position that WH records a president takes with him when he leaves the White House are presumptively personal and not subject to review by partisan Biden appointees at DOJ or Archives. Under the Constitution, federal law and precedent, none of the documents are currently “classified” or “national defense information” that restricts Trump’s handing of them. They are ALL his personal records and, frankly, should be returned to him. If justice prevails, this indictment won’t survive scrutiny by honest, constitutionalist judges and will be thrown out.

He had boxes at the University of Delaware.

He had boxes in Chinatown, DC.

    He had boxes in Pennsylvania.

He had boxes in his wide open garage in Delaware.

    But no indictment.

The same people who indicted President Trump *again* are the ones telling you men can have babies.

They are radicals who said antifa peacefully protested while you watched buildings burn.

Since they don’t control the Supreme Court, they want to make it bigger by adding new Justices now while they are in power.

They told you Trump was a Russian spy, and all they needed was his taxes to prove it. So they got an IRS bureaucrat to leak his taxes – and we found out they lied again.

Joe Biden’s secret cabal are power hungry radicals who are on pace to topple the U.S. – and the media is cheering them on. Joe Biden can barely walk and the media helps hide his profound & increasing Alzheimer’s.
    Everyone sees it.

    They must be stopped –

Biden moved his Boxes all over the place, including to Chinatown and up to his lawyer’s office in Boston. Why isn’t deranged Jack Smith looking at that? Also, I supplied them openly, and without question, security tape from Mar-a-Lago. I had nothing to hide, nor do I now. Nobody said I wasn’t allowed to look at the personal records that I brought with me from the White House. There’s nothing wrong with that….

….Biden had records for years, totally unsecured, even stolen when he was a Senator. This is crazy! Just like Jack Smith, Lisa Monaco, and the man they sent to the D.A.’s Office, Matt Colangelo. It isn’t America anymore. Under the Presidential Records Act, I’m allowed to do all this. Under the Clinton Socks Case, the decision is clear. There was no crime, except for what the DOJ and FBI have been doing against me for years.

When the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, they wouldn’t let my lawyers or representatives anywhere near them. They wouldn’t tell us what they took. Knowing them, and based on past performance, they probably later “stuffed” in other documents. My lawyers had to wait outside, on a very hot day. The FBI took my medical records, birth certificate, and passports, and just about anything else they were able to get their hands on. What a group! They didn’t do this to Crooked Joe Biden or Hillary.

I’ve read the entire indictment. And I disagree @mitchellvii
    .

Let me explain something to everyone about how statutory interpretation works. (And it’s clearly a weak spot for Jack Smith, given his 9-nothing smack down in the Supreme Court on the honest services case against former VA Bob McDonnell and his failed prosecution against wealthy Dem trial lawyer and VP candidate John Edwards. As the Edwards case shows, Smith is particularly stymied by highly complex regulatory statutes.)

Here, Smith is totally ignoring the Presidential Records Act — but it’s on the field and cannot be ignored. When multiple statutes apply, they often must be harmonized.

One of the key principles of statutory interpretation is that the specific controls over the general. And the Presidential Records Act is the more specific statute given what the facts are at issue as alleged in the indictment. It controls here over the Espionage Act unless, perhaps, Smith could show that Donald Trump was acting as a spy giving national defense info to our Nation’s enemies. And of course, he can’t because Trump is so loyal to the US he sweats Americana on a hot day and on a cold day his soup is red, white, and blue.

So ironically, like many of the Left’s plays are really a form of psychological projection, the Espionage Act (as to China, Romania, and Ukraine) perhaps is in the Biden family’s tarot card reading — their fortune telling. But DOJ under Biden cannot simply wish away Trump’s defenses.

Sadly, the Leftist media in their breathless frenzy will not try to educate their viewers on how complex statutory construction works.

And truth be told, most of the relevant viewers wouldn’t get it even if CNN tried. Because they have something akin to immunity to deep rational analysis. To logic. To the law.

They are like paper people who can see in only two dimensions.

  17. “The ultimate lesson from the Trump indictment: No More Pretenses. There is the Uniparty and their Praetorian Guard, and then there’s everybody else.”

    JORDAN SCHACHTEL
    JUN 9, 2023

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “If you haven’t heard the news yet, the Biden Administration’s Justice Department announced Friday afternoon that they were indicting President Trump, listing 37 felony allegations against the former president.

I’ll spare you the outrage or celebrations that you’re probably seeing proliferating through the media industry, depending on which side you stand on, because none of that is particularly consequential to the issue at hand. I surveyed some followers on social media to get a sense of what people were thinking, and the reactions varied from “I’m so sick of Donald Trump dominating the news for every day of my existence!” to “this is a witch hunt!”

Tyler Cardon, the CEO of Blaze Media, added some insightful commentary too. “Everyone’s stuck in an endless cycle of whataboutism,” Cardon replied. “There are no objective standards anymore. Probably never were. It just wasn’t as obvious as it is now. Politics is about power. Those who wield it punish their enemies and reward their friends.”

Indeed. I somehow find myself agreeing with all three sentiments expressed. Nonetheless, there’s a clear lesson from this debacle: no more pretenses. No more pretending that there is equal treatment in the United States under the current system. These indictments prove with absolute clarity that there is currently no such thing as equal treatment under the law here. It’s a sad state of reality for a country founded on the fundamental notion that all people are created equal.

The politically motivated indictment against a former president makes it crystal clear that there are two tiers of justice in America. There is a Uniparty in the United States that maintains special protections for virtually any and all crimes, and then there is everyone else.

Donald Trump falls into that “everyone else” category, despite having obtained the highest office in the country, because he did not ideologically conform strongly enough with Uniparty sentiment.

Crimes committed by Uniparty members always go unpunished. The president’s crackhead son can engage in a multi million dollar influence peddling scheme. The former Secretary of State can get caught destroying evidence of her criminal activity. Multiple presidents can get away with lying their country into a series of devastating wars, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans. They are truly untouchables.

And instead of acting as neutral representatives of law and justice, federal agencies are committed to their status as the Praetorian Guard of the Uniparty. They still pay lip service to American founding ideals, but they know that we know that they are actively making a mockery of it, and they still don’t care.

“We have one set of laws in this country and they apply to everyone,” Special counsel Jack Smith said in defending his indictment. “Adhering to and applying the laws is what determines the outcome of an investigation. Nothing more, nothing less.”

EXCERPT: “(Campaign Life Coalition) — As you know, Canada’s education system has become a cesspool of sexual propaganda and soul-and-body-destroying ideology. Worse still, a majority of elected school board trustees in most districts support the programming of sexual perversion into the next generation. But just when it has never looked darker, God casts a ray of light and hope. Let me tell you a story…

In late May, a Catholic mom in southwestern Ontario phoned Campaign Life Coalition and asked if we’d be able to recruit some parents in her local area to participate with her family in what she described as “a Walk-Out” on June 1st, to protest the raising of the LGBT “Pride” flag.

You see, this “momma bear” was sick and tired of LGBT propaganda targeting her young children at school. She wanted to protect her “cubs” from the sexualized “Pride” flag, the symbol of LGBT political power which would soon hang once again over her children’s heads at their Catholic elementary school.

We liked her idea so much so, that we told her, “Forget about just your city. CLC will take your idea on ourselves, and spread it Canada-wide! Let’s try to protect all the children!” And so, the first ever National “Pride” Flag Walk-Out Day was born. We whipped up a simple poster and a web page to promote the protest action, and began spreading the word to families in public and Catholic schools.

It was held on Thursday, June 1st, when most schools raise the gay “Pride” flag to kick off a full month of LGBT classroom indoctrination that aims to separate children from the religious beliefs of their families and to make them enthusiastic adherents of the latest sexual revolution: gender fluidity.

Stunning results — We would have been happy if schools had a 10% absence rate, but when the numbers started coming in, we were blown away because the participation rate far surpassed anything we could have dreamed of.

Depending on the area, absence rates were a staggering 30% to 75%! Northwood Public School in Windsor, Ontario, saw 600 out of its 800 students stay home on June 1st. That’s an incredible 75% walk-out. The really great part is that it wasn’t isolated to just one school.

The local President of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario admitted to the CBC that multiple Windsor area schools had greater than 50% absence rates.”

EXCERPT: “Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream, which previously gave the cold shoulder to police officers, is suing the City of Seattle for losses it alleges resulted from the decision by officials in the summer of 2020 to abandon the Police Department’s East Precinct in response to the George Floyd riots which led to the creation of a “government-authorized invasion,” the deadly anti-police Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), later renamed the Capitol Hill Occupied protest (CHOP).

According to the federal lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington on Wednesday, the chain claimed that its constitutional rights were “overrun” when officials decided to “abandon” the 6-square block area of Capitol Hill to BLM and Antifa rioters. Molly Moon’s is accusing the city of supporting and encouraging “a hostile occupation of that neighborhood.”

“This lawsuit does not seek to undermine CHOP participants’ message or present a counter message,” the lawsuit stated. “Rather, this lawsuit is about the plaintiff’s constitutional and other legal rights, of which were overrun by the City of Seattle’s decision to abandon and close off an entire city neighborhood, leaving it unchecked by the police, unserved by fire and emergency health services, and inaccessible to the public at large, and then materially support and encourage a hostile occupation of that neighborhood. The City’s decision subjected businesses, employees, and residents of that neighborhood to extensive property damage, public safety dangers, and an inability to use and access their properties.”

The chain is alleging that the armed occupation, which included a lack of public safety, and the blocking of sidewalks and roadways, led to significant losses in revenue for its Capitol Hill franchise, located across from Cal Anderson Park, which was in the center of the zone.

According to the suit, the city violated Molly Moon’s constitutional rights and created a “government-authorized invasion” alleging that “The City acted with deliberate indifference toward the safety and property interests of Plaintiff” despite being aware of the situation.”

    1. Oh, cool! You got it! I figured you could put it to good use. It is called a “chiffon cake” mold….but it was too deep and not wide enough for my jelly feeder. I tried…oh, how I tried. I took a plastic lid from a coffee can, cut a hole in the middle and tried to fit it down around the center of the mold, hoping to stretch it enough…nope, that didn’t work – wouldn’t hold. So I went back to the 3/$1 aluminum foil pans! Sometimes, cheap really IS the best route to take! LOL

By golly, I think I’ve done it again! You’re right, Pat – I’m good at this shit! I was in a bit of a quandary as to what to do to keep the bunnies from eating the young cantaloupe leaves. They are getting big enough that they are touching the tops of the buckets…and they really need more direct sun. What might I have squirreled away in my shed….???

Well, lookie there! I’ve got 2 tomato cages…wait, if I turn them upside down – yeah, that’ll work – perfect size! But I need some kind of fencing around the bottom….the horse wire left over from the yard fence is too big – they slip right thru that, even the adults. But wait….there’s a short section of the plastic-coated fencing with 1/2″ squares – no way they can squeeze thru that, even the babies! Yesssss!!!!

OK, crap – not enough material to go all the way around one of them, much less two! I had already cut the section in half width-wise and had a piece left over. But I still needed more fencing….wait a minute! I used a part of that fencing on the trellis for the cukes! Sure enough – there it is! And a nice LONG piece, too!

OK, needle-nose pliers in hand, I started snipping wires….good grief, was THAT ever a job and a half!!! But, after a long stint of snipping wires, folding the edges over, and a shit-ton of zip ties….you know me, I got’er done and….voila! The perfect solution!!! Hot dog! We’re cooking now! Pic of one of my creations in place – I should patent these suckers!!! I’ll wait on the other 2 – they are the healthiest ones and I don’t want to take a chance on them until I see if it actually works.

I’m telling you, a blog about this stuff once word gets out would be really well received i think. with everything so expensive these days, gardeners, home owners and erbody needs to use, reuse, stretch and keep things going!!

        1. I was thinking about that, mulling it over – when you live your entire adult life short on funds, you learn to make do with what you’ve got, I guess. But my brain is naturally mechanically-inclined – mechanical reasoning is my strongest skill. Common sense looking at the possibilities, I guess! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing – people would find it useful, I think. But I just don’t know if I want to make that kind of commitment. I would feel duty-bound to keep up on it consistently and IDK if I want that kind of pressure. We’ll see. But I’ve kept pics of everything – you know how I am about pictures….ROFL

          1. it could be a once a month thing…even during the winter, there’s a need to properly store things or get them in shape for spring.

        1. There are….I also noticed the barrels still sitting here, full of soil….I love the taste of Cilantro (if I can still taste it now) and had some seeds left so I planted some in one of the barrels just for shits and giggles – again, old seeds. I looked the next day and something had been digging in it so I just kind of smoothed it all out, trying to cover as many as the green seeds as I could (they only get planted 1/4″ deep anyway) and put the cover on it – there is a hole in the center but it seems to have worked – nothing was disturbed today. If they come up, fine, if not, meh – no biggee! Don’t know unless you try, right?

    1. Oh, hell, no! Do I believe he actually knows what’s happening around him now? Not at all! However, that does not in any way absolve him, as you say, Pat! He has been evil since birth, I think!
