DIY: Recycled Suncatcher

Today is National Crayon Day, so I went looking for crafts using broken crayons…there are a lot of them!  From lip gloss to room candles, if you’ve got broken crayons, you can recycle them.  I found this particular craft at TheSuburbanMom.com website. She made the craft, then provided additional tips afterward to make your experience better!

After removing any paper from the crayons. Sharpen crayons with a manual sharpener. Since we were using old broken crayons, while my daughter sharpened the crayons she could, I used a knife to chop up smaller bits.

TIP – The first one I made I used a LOT of shavings, like 5-6 crayons worth. That’s overkill. You only need one crayon for each piece of wax paper. Otherwise, it is too thick and you will lose the translucent sun catcher effect.

For the first few sun catchers we made, we mixed colors. But we discovered that when the colors melted, they became one dark shade of red. So we decided we liked the look of a single color best.

Once you have your shavings, place them on a piece of wax paper – approx 12 x 12 inches. Fold the wax paper in half and then double fold the edges to create an envelope that will contain the shavings. This is very important. Make sure you double fold over your edges or wax will run out when you iron.

Using a low setting, place your wax paper envelope between a large piece of folded parchment or kraft paper. Wax will ooze out — do not skip the parchment or kraft paper. (At first I tried using a rag as a drop cloth, but it got messy. The parchment works well because it contains the melted crayon.)

As you iron, let the melted crayon run in the wax paper envelope filling it with color.

When the melted crayon is more or less evenly distributed, set it aside to cool (just a couple of minutes).

Once cool, use a pencil to draw large hearts on the wax paper envelopes, and then cut out hearts. (I was surprised how easy it is to cut the wax paper with melted crayon inside.) Initially, I was going to trace perfect hearts, but I decided to freehand them and let my daughter cut them out.

Punch a hole in your hearts and hang in the window.

Super pretty, right?

(Pat’s note: This can easily be used to make patriotic suncatchers using a star template or a Halloween/pumpkin one, or whatever.)

‘Chinese Collusion’? Rapper Found Guilty in Illegal Foreign Influence Scheme to Fund Barack Obama’s 2012 Campaign — Why wasn’t former President Barack Obama accused of a “Chinese Collusion Scandal” during his time in office?

    KYLE BECKER
    APR 29, 2023

EXCERPT: “A founding member of the Fugees hip-hop group, Prakazrel Michel, also known as Pras, was found guilty in federal court of orchestrating an extensive international conspiracy that involved millions of dollars in foreign money for illegal lobbying and campaign contributions to former President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign, according to the Justice Department.

Prosecutors alleged that Michel accepted $865,000 from Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho and used it to fund a network of straw donors who made campaign contributions to former President Barack Obama in 2012. In addition, Michel was accused of attempting to convince the Trump administration and the Justice Department to drop federal investigations into Low, who was accused of embezzlement, as well as assisting China in its efforts to bring a Chinese dissident back to China.

Michel, who received millions of dollars for his role in the schemes, was found guilty of 10 criminal charges, including money laundering, illegal lobbying, witness tampering, and campaign finance violations. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
    ———————-
Harry A. Lidsky, a special agent with the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General, said in a statement that Michel “played a central role in a wide-ranging conspiracy to improperly influence top government officials.” Former President Barack Obama was never accused of a “Chinese Collusion Scandal” during his time in office.

This is quite the contrast with his successor in office, President Donald Trump, who was relentlessly and baselessly accused of a “Russian Collusion Scandal” that had no basis in fact.”

My cousin, a PhD who used to work for the UN, paid her way and gave her a whirlwind tour of the gorgeous parts of whatever city they were in – NW somewhere. He also started sending her $$$ and schmoozing her – she came back TOTALLY flipped and is ALL ABOUT Larry now! SMH – she’s oh-so-worried about him since he is in the hospital….yet not once has she even asked how my tooth removal went…..or how I’m doing…..money counts with her these days!

  2. “The Age Old Battle Between the Khazrian Mafia and True Christianity Nears Finality — Is there now an age old battle between the Khazarian Mafia and the Russians being fought on Planet Earth that now coming to an end point?”
By Jonas E. Alexis, Senior Editor -April 27, 2023

EXCERPT: “According to an unconfirmed report yesterday, Israel sent troops into Ukraine to fight the Russians for Zelensky’s army, and they were soundly defeated in short order. This kind of action seems to be a hopeless endeavor as the Russian Federation’s apparent complete weapons superiority (so far) seems to assure RF victory in the Ukraine.

And there are now confirmed reports that a secret Underground Base in the Ukraine near Kiev which was staffed by hundreds of NATO officers was hit and destroyed by a hypersonic RF missile fired from one of the RF fighter aircraft.

Zelensky had claimed that the Ukraine was set to launch a major counteroffensive against the RF that would crush them and retake Crimea. So far no such thing has occurred nor is it likely to occur at all. If the RF decides to it could remove all access to Kiev by highway and air in about 20 minutes and turn Brussels and NAT0/Gladio/DVD to ashes in less than an hour.

Supposedly the RF has not even deployed their most secret weaponry in the Ukraine which involves scalar frequencies and time warping technology of their advanced particle quantum physics.

After 8 years of restraint while Russians in the Donbass were repeatedly attacked, sniped and terrorized by the efforts of the RKM Cutouts inside America’s State Dept who paid for an deployed a Coup d’état, the RF decided enough was enough and they could no longer tolerate the aggression of NATO against innocent Russians living there and their very RF borders as well as the violation of the Minsk Agreement. Obviously Crimea and Donbass were historically Russian and most citizens there spoke Russian and wanted to become part of the RF.”

    1. Oh, gas….I wanted to mention that from my trip to Norfolk yesterday. It was $3.49/gal in Pierce – I didn’t look here – and $3.43/gal in Norfolk. The other day, when I went to Creighton, I saw it was $3.14/gal and I thought about getting some, then figured nah, I’ll wait since I’m going thru Meadow Grove on Saturday. Should have listened to my gut!!! It was $3.19 at MG – still, much better than Norfolk, Pierce or here! It’s really interesting how our government has somehow managed to approve price fixing even tho price fixing is illegal! All the gas stations in Norfolk coordinate their prices, as they do here. It’s a quasi-non-compete agreement. MG is a small, locally-owned store, with only 1 or 2 other stations, whereas the others are the big conglomerates, like Casey’s. There are a couple of stations that are a little bit lower than Norfolk proper because they are located outside the city limits, I assume.

Image search shows this is not the DC memorial – but the one in Venice CA that was defaced in 2016 by a single individual:

“In July 2016, a 24-year-old “graffiti artist” named Angel Castro was arrested on charges of defacing the wall just before Memorial Day that year, according to the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press.
Castro, who is nicknamed “Liter,” was sentenced in 2017 to four years in state prison for vandalism, to which he had pleaded no contest. He was also ordered to pay $38,000 restitution. He was one of four “taggers” – nicknamed Noner, Pheb, Snake and Liter –who defaced the wall, according to the AP.
The wall was restored in May 2017 and was treated with a protective coating that allows any graffiti to be easily washed off.”

  5. “Federal Judge Enjoins Illinois’ Assault Weapon Ban”

    Jonathan Turley, April 29, 2023

EXCERPT: “In a major victory for gun rights advocates, U.S. District Judge Stephen McGlynn has granted a preliminary injunction of Illinois’ ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines. The decision comes after two other district courts ruled in favor of the law — sending this issue to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and potentially the Supreme Court. These long-awaited challenges will test the Democratic calls for removing all AR-15s and similar weapons, including calls from President Joe Biden.

I have previously raised doubts over some of these laws, which are based on questionable factual claims and distinctions between weapons. Indeed, President Biden has made dubious constitutional and historical claims about the Second Amendment and AR-15s. Illinois and New York have previously supplied gun rights advocates with huge victories by drafting facially unconstitutional laws. Moderate efforts at gun control are often ramped up in the legislative process to become more and more sweeping.

McGlynn recognized that gun bans are popular in states like Illinois but noted that “even legislation that may enjoy the support of a majority of its citizens must fail if it violates the constitutional rights of fellow citizens.”

The court tackles the argument made by many gun control advocates that states can ban “non-essential accessories” like magazines because they are not themselves “arms” under the Second Amendment.”

Lt. Dan Bressler of the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department says with tougher laws regarding the sale of chemicals used for the manufacture of methamphetamine, addicts are stealing copper wire because it provides them with quick cash in order to buy meth. Copper wiring goes for about $3.50 a pound.

Recently several spools of #12 copper wiring were stolen from the Columbia Elementary School construction site. Sierra Rock in Jamestown has been victimized for several cases of brass and copper wiring over the last couple of years.

In Fresno a pair of thieves, over a couple months time, stole 32 miles of copper wiring valued at $300,000. Total street lights disabled; 800.

Should you have knowledge of any copper wiring theft, contact the Sheriff´s Department immediately at 533-5815.”

It probably only amounted to a couple hundred $$$’s but better than nothing. They have since closed down, at least at that site.

Webb said this brought diversity to the county council. In his statement, he wrote, “I’m just glad that this is now possible so ANYONE can be ANYTHING or ANYONE they want.”

One day earlier, Webb posted that being transgender was a mental health disorder and such people “need treatment, not affirmation.”

“With his facetious claim that he identifies as a woman of color,” she said, “he has made a mockery of his constituents, as well as his elected position and this council.”

In response, Webb says he has never claimed to be transgender and this is how he sees his own sense of gender.

“You don’t get to question me,” he said directly to the audience. “You do not get to require proof from me. You were part of the movement to help establish these rules and set the bar. Okay? You don’t get to come later when someone else joins your club that you don’t want in.”

  12. this is sooooo depraved. woman (whose picture is NOT included so i’m guessing she’s a protected class) worked at a mortuary and sold parts to a man…he is a doozy.
    FTA
Candace Chapman Scott, 36, a former mortuary worker, is accused of selling 20 boxes of body parts to a man she met through a Facebook group about “oddities,” according to the April 5 indictment unsealed Friday in federal court in Little Rock.

Scott pleaded not guilty to 12 counts, including conspiracy to commit mail fraud, mail fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen property.

She remains in jail as she awaits a hearing scheduled for Tuesday on whether she will be released on bail.

The man who allegedly purchased the remains was not named in the federal indictment. But he was identified as Jeremy Lee Pauley in separate state charges.

Scott worked at Arkansas Central Mortuary Services, a funeral home, and part of her job included transporting, cremating and embalming remains. According to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, the funeral home is where the medical school sent remains of cadavers that had been donated for medical students to examine.

In October 2021, Scott allegedly approached Pauley and began offering to sell him remains from the medical school that the mortuary needed to cremate and return.

“Just out of curiosity, would you know anyone in the market for a fully in tact, embalmed brain?” Scott wrote to Pauley in her first Facebook message, according to the indictment.

In the next nine months, Scott sold Pauley fetuses, brains, hearts, lungs, genitalia, large pieces of skin and other body parts, the indictment alleges. The indictment claims that, in one incident, Scott sold the remains of a fetus at a discount because “he’s not in great shape.”

In another message from Dec. 2, 2021, the indictment said Scott offered to sell Pauley “2 brains, one with skullcap, 3 hearts one cut, 2 fake boobies, one large belly button piece of skin, [one] arm, one huge piece of skin, and one lung” for $1,600. Scott received a payment from Pauley through PayPal that same day for $1,600.

Scott collected $10,975 in 16 separate PayPal transfers, the indictment says.

  13. she refuses to resign
    entire article
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner attended a rally Saturday to confirm she will not resign amid what she calls “a witch hunt.”

“I ain’t leaving. I ain’t resigning,” the George Soros-backed Gardner said during a round table discussion on youth and violence at Central Baptist Church. “I ain’t doing nothing. You gonna have to remove me.”

Gardner made the unusual move to speak publicly, claiming she would be brief because she knew there were members of the media that “want to capture every word I’m saying so they can use this as a sound bite for criminal contempt or a vehicle to try and take me out of office.” The second-term circuit attorney also accused the media of trying to silence her.

“What you’re seeing is a witch hunt,” Gardner said.

Gardner has faced a series of accusations that she has failed to do her job. She found herself in trouble again earlier this month when her team failed to appear at a murder trial. Judge Scott Millikan, who is overseeing the trial of Jonathan Jones, an 18-year-old accused of shooting a man in 2021, filed a motion declaring Gardner was in contempt of court for her failure to appear.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey gave Gardner the opportunity to resign back in February, but when she refused to do so filed a quo warranto, the legal action allowing him to remove a prosecutor under state law, on Feb. 23. The filing included evidence from the very beginning of Gardner’s first term of absences in court, hiring a suspended lawyer, and mandatory non-disclosure agreements in her office among other things.

Gardner’s quo warranto hearing was held on April 18 to protesters in favor of the circuit attorney. She is up for reelection in 2024.

….It will allow dirty Voter rolls to get dirtier, weakens transparency, and is a total mess. It’s simple, all we want is a Free and Fair Election, and an honest count.”

  16. Well, I spent some time with my hands in the dirt. The new flowers I bought dry out so fast in those tiny containers so I brought the pots inside to go ahead and pot them. Well, at least the petunias and pansies (one light yellow, one dark) – the impatiens (pale purple to complement the vinca) needs to wait since it’s going in the big bowl out front in the wood stove – can’t bring that inside!!! But I should be able to get them all outside by the end of this week. Then I have to look at getting the vinca’s planted – still need to hit Menards for the fencing piece I need first.
