Everyone knows about Paul Revere’s midnight ride, but this patriot did a lot more to help America gain its independence. Here are 11 little-known facts about the Founding Father.

His father was a Huguenot.

Revere’s father, Apollos Rivoire, was a French Huguenot refugee who fled his country as a result of religious persecution. He was born in Riocaud in 1702, but with time he lost most of his connection to France—he could not read or write the language. The Frenchman later changed his name to Paul Revere, “on account that the Bumpkins pronounce it easier.” He married Deborah Hitchbourn, a member of a very old Boston family, and passed the anglicized name, Paul, to his eldest son.

As a teen, Revere worked as a church bell ringer.

When he was around fifteen, Revere would ring the bells at the Eight Bell Church near his home. The young patriot and his friends set up a bell ringers’ association. They drafted a document that detailed the rules and guidelines for membership. Members could only be allowed into the group through a unanimous vote, members could not beg for money, and a moderator was chosen every three months to delegate work and changes within the group. The simple document focused on the fundamentals of public duty, majority vote, and community.

Revere made some interesting items in silver.

Revere’s father came to Boston as an apprentice smith. He worked for a man named John Coney for several years and purchased his freedom for forty pounds. After Revere was born, he apprenticed under his father and learned how to craft things from gold and silver. Some items include a chain for a pet squirrel, an ostrich egg snuffbox, and sword hilts. You can tell an item is made by Revere by his maker’s mark—either his last name in a rectangle, or his initials in cursive.

The silversmith was also a dentist.

When dental surgeon John Baker moved to town, Revere happily studied under him. He learned how to create false teeth out of ivory and insert them using wire. Revere became so confident in his abilities that in 1768, he placed an ad declaring he “can fix [teeth] as well as any surgeon dentist who ever came from London, he fixes them in such a manner that they are not only an ornament but of real use in speaking and eating.”

He made a lot of money. Literally.

During wartime, Revere used his smithing skills to engrave printing plates to print money in Massachusetts. He was also commissioned to design the Continental currency, money used to pay the rebel army. The new bills strangely ranged from one-sixth of a dollar to 80 dollars.

During the war, Revere accidentally engaged in some super early forensics.

After Dr. Joseph Warren was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, he was buried like others in an unmarked grave. Ten months later, the bodies were exhumed and examined. Revere was Warren’s dentist, and recognized him by his teeth: Revere had given Warren a false tooth fastened with wire. This was the first body identification done by teeth in recorded history.

He had a large family.

Revere had two wives, Sarah Orne and Rachel Walker, and he had eight children with each of them. Revere was a doting father who referred to his kids as his “little lambs.” Ten of Revere’s children perished at a young age, but he still managed to acquire 52 grandchildren.

Revere was unfailingly polite and dapper.

The patriot even dressed well on his famous midnight ride. Impressed by his garb, his captors saluted him as one of equal rank (before threatening to shoot him in the head). Even with a gun in hand, the redcoat politely asked, “May I crave your name, sir?”

He was not drunk on his midnight ride.

This urban legend took hold when the media was eager to discredit the Founding Fathers during the tumultuous era surrounding the Vietnam War. One Boston newspaper ran a story in 1968 claiming that Revere drank some rum early into his midnight ride. Revere’s drunken yelling apparently roused the patriots accidentally. While Captain Hall, a patriot stationed in Medford, did own a distillery, there is no evidence suggesting that Revere’s booze-fueled yelling truly occurred. Regardless, the unfounded accusations caught on and are often still suggested as truth.

He wasn’t the only one to go on a midnight ride.

Paul Revere and William Dawes originally planned to carry news of the invasion to Concord, where military supplies were stored, and then warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams, who had been targeted for capture. On the trip there, the duo would ride through Somerville, Medford, and Arlington, warning patriots as they passed through. They ran into Samuel Prescott (who was just leaving a lady friend’s house at one in the morning) in Lexington, and asked him to come along.

Revere was captured about halfway through the ride, but the others managed to escape and keep going. Revere had his horse confiscated but still managed to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The true hero was Prescott, who actually went through with the plan and reached Concord.

So why were the more successful criers left out of the story? One very popular—but incorrect—poem is to blame. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s “Paul Revere’s Ride” starts with this very familiar stanza:

Listen, my children, and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five: Hardly a man is now alive Who remembers that famous day and year.

This poem is filled with intentional inaccuracies. Longfellow did his research, but took many liberties in order to properly convey his message. The poet wanted to create a folk hero by painting a lone man as the midnight rider. In order to do such, he removed the extra players.

We’ve all been misquoting him.

Paul Revere and his fellow patriots never shouted, “The British are coming!” That wouldn’t have made sense, since most colonists were British. The actual warning was “the Regulars are coming out.” This misconception is another result of Longfellow’s creative license—he found the real sentence to be too wordy for his poem.

    Revere had many talents and enterprises. I didn’t know he made the plates for America’s first money!

    My daughters and I still cook with Revere Ware, named for Paul Revere and have a pewter tea set made in Williamsburg after his simple elegant design.

    Back then, we were reared to be honest, hard-working and patriotic – in our homes, schools and churches – with weekly school gatherings in the auditorium, we saluted the flag, sang patriotic songs, The National Anthem, My Country Tis of Thee, America the Beautiful, etc. had prayer and preachers gave inspirational speeches or we watched movies like the one about Patrick Henry.

That’s in an upcoming open I have scheduled…..no sign so far of my GS……now, why am I NOT surprised?!?! The boy thinks with his dick!!!! To this day, the Met Office has refused to answer a number of Daily Sceptic enquiries about possible non-climatic causes of this widely promoted record.     Since leaving Washington, I haven’t heard much about Liddle’ Mick Mulvaney, perhaps the dumbest person, along with John Bolton, working at the White House. He was “Acting” Chief of Staff because I never would have named him to the permanent position. Merely a “backbencher,” who once gave a news conference that was legendarily bad, he is now with CBS Fake News, and should be grateful to the man who made him “famous.” This guy was uncharismatic, a born loser. No wonder they have No Ratings!

    People are finding info that it’s dangerous, will not wash off of fruits or vegetables. Some sort of plasticized application supposedly to preserve produce.

    They’re reducing the price of produce with Apeel on it to get you to buy it.

    The information on it appears to be intentionally sketchy.

    We all know if it has anything to do with Bill Gates and/ or WEF we don’t want anything to do with it.

    Then Kari Lake lost the Arizona governor’s seat to a democrat in an all-red state.

    And now Chicago has voted out the worst mayor they ever had, but replaced her with the male version of her.

    HOW CAN I EVER BELIEVE THAT THESE THINGS ARE BEING VOTED FOR when they defy all logic?

    Folks, I’m a patriot through and through but I can no longer just sit back and act like everything is fine here.

    Democrats HAD TO CHEAT to make their radical left agenda a reality.

    THEY HAD TO CHEAT to keep Gascon, a soft-on-crime Soros DA who everyone wanted out, on the job.

    THEY HAD TO CHEAT to put Katie Hobbs into the Arizona governor’s seat, when all the voting says she lost.

    And THEY HAD TO CHEAT to make sure Chicago keeps the same lax-on-crime representation it had BEFORE the election.

    A patriot who knows that his country is being demolished by the party in charge, and who wants to see the opposition party FIGHT BACK and end this charade.

    The document mentions that “1,000 arming lanyards” were approved for Ukrainian forces, suggesting that over 1,000 of the smart bomb kits will be sent.”

  28. “A drunk man broke into a police station in Florida and helped himself to the facility’s amenities. He took a shower, pooped on a bathroom floor, and walked out with a uniform and bulletproof vest without anyone noticing.

    Joseph Moulton, 36, jumped a parking lot fence at the Naples Police Department. He found an unlocked police car and sat in it for a few minutes until he noticed people walking out of the building.

    Moulton then hid in the bushes waiting for his moment to head inside. Before going inside, he shoved a water hose under one of the doors and turned on the water. This caused at least an inch of flood damage. That was just the beginning of his evening of fun. Fun that he doesn’t remember.

    After flooding the lobby, he made his way into the men’s locker room where he took a shower. He then put on a uniform shirt, pants, cap and a bulletproof vest. The police report then claims Moulton went into the women’s bathroom. Once inside, he threw a $1,000 police radio into a toilet and pooped on the bathroom floor.

    His evening of destruction inside of the police department lasted around 40 minutes and went unnoticed until after he left the building.

    An employee at a nearby 7-Eleven called the police around 1 a.m. when Moulton showed up, intoxicated, in an official police jacket. When officers arrived, he was already gone. They didn’t catch him until hours later after finding his wallet, with his ID, inside the police car. He had apparently dropped it during his night of fun.

  33. Fox has the heroic pizza delivery man on who tripped that guy for the cops….he had been on the job for only 3 months, delivering a half cheese/half pepperoni pizza, just another day…when did you realize something was going on?

    Pete: “Well, a lot of people find themselves in the movie and they step back! What is it about you, Tyler, that said ‘ok, I’m going to step forward and maybe play a roll in this movie?”

    Tyler: “Uh, yeah, nothing about me ever said that I was going to step back so that’s kind of what’s a little befuddling to me, is that I am….I feel like I just did what every other person would have done…that’s why I’m having a little trouble with this whole thing. I can’t really understand how it’s gotten to this point, to be honest, but then, I’m asking people, “Well, wouldn’t you have done that?” And they’re like, “To be honest, I don’t think I would have” and I’m like, ‘ok, maybe I am the crazy one. LOL”

    “99.9% of the responses have been extremely positive – we’ve gotten a couple of phone call threats that have come in claiming I did the wrong thing, how could I trip a kid….it’s tough for me, it’s making me second-guess it, but I’m like “I KNOW I did the right thing!”

    Smart, self-reliant guy – society and parents have failed these kids – that they should feel they were in a position to go steal a car at 17? I was working at 17 to buy a car – granted, it was a cheap one from my parents but I worked for it. I don’t understand how it’s gotten to “let’s just steal everything.”

He and his 2 brothers, who also helped on 9/11, are starting up the “Morrell Cheesesteak Company” to continue doing things like that, to help others.     so what can we DO about it. Why would Trump believe he has any hope of winning in 2024 with a nationwide election system that enables, easily and in multiple ways, massive election fraud.

    Over 50% of Americans do not believe our elections are authentic, honest. That is a serious crisis.

    1. WHERE and how are 10s of millions of ballots STORED for weeks on end b4 being counted?
    . WHO receives these mail-in ballots and then records their arrival and then SEPARATES the ballot from its identifying outer envelope? What is stored are unidentifiable ballots.

    It’s SO EASY for political operatives to enter these storage rooms and replace all those actual ballots with fraud ballots. Just need one corrupt, nicely paid election staff worker to get the key or code to the storage room.

    Senate Republicans are prepared to block Democratic efforts to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein on the powerful Judiciary committee, ratcheting up pressure on the 89-year-old California Democrat to resign or return quickly to allow President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees to be confirmed.

    Democrats would need 60 votes to replace Feinstein on the panel, but senior Republicans in leadership and on the committee made clear Monday that they would not give them the votes to do that. The result: At least 12 nominees — and maybe more — could be stalled if Feinstein does not return soon.

    The stakes are high for Democrats, who could see key agenda items thwarted – both on the committee and on the Senate floor – if they are unable to replace Feinstein and the California Democrat does not return to Washington soon.

    Many congressional Democrats have remained largely supportive of Feinstein’s decision to remain in office while absent from the Capitol as she continues to recover from shingles. But Feinstein has faced calls to resign from two House Democrats, and if Democrats are not able to replace her on the committee that number could grow in the days ahead.

    Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell outlined the GOP’s opposition on the Senate floor on Tuesday.

    “Senate Republicans will not take part in sidelining a temporary absent colleague off the committee just so Democrats can force through their very worst nominees,” he said.

    The comments were echoed by top Republicans, a clear sign Democrats lack the votes they need.
