The Hope Diamond

The History of the Hope DiamondThe Hope Diamond was originally unearthed in the mines of Southwest India along the Kistna River. It was viewed as one of the most unique stones ever pulled from the Golconda mines. So how big is the Hope Diamond? It is believed to have been around 112 carats originally and was placed in the brow of a temple idol. The next time it was mentioned in texts was when it was stolen by a French merchant who then sold it to King Louis XIV in 1642 at a substantial profit. Shortly thereafter the merchant died a wicked death. After the court jeweler cut it down to 67 carats it was named “the Blue Diamond of the Crown.” During the French Revolution in 1792, it was stolen from the royal family after King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were beheaded.

In 1812, the Hope Diamond resurfaced in the hands of London diamond merchant Daniel Eliason but only weighed 45.52 carats. It is said that King George IV acquired it but his debts were so enormous when he died that it was sold. A 1839 gem catalog noted that the next known owner was Henry Philip Hope who gave the stone its name. It transferred to several other owners in the succeeding years.

Properties of the Hope Diamond

The Hope Diamond is classified as a type IIb fancy dark grayish-blue stone that contains a strong phosphorescence of reddish-orange. When it is exposed to ultra-violet light in a darkened room then the lights are turned off, the diamond continues to glow like a hot coal. The strange phenomenon simply adds to its mystery.

Colored diamonds, especially blue ones, have electrical properties that are semi-conducting. Unlike other diamonds, blue ones are renowned for their hardness, thermal and optical properties and chemical resistance. Natural diamonds contain defects or impurities. In the Hope Diamond, the impurity is boron, which gives it its unique color.

The Hope Diamond and others in the Aurora Collection underwent intense scrutiny by the Naval Research Laboratory’s Chemistry Division in 2005 in collaboration with NOVA Research. The objective was to identify the similarities and differences between the gems which included the Hope and Blue Heart diamonds among others. It became immediately apparent that all the diamonds studied had phosphorescent bands that centered between 500 and 660nm wavelengths. What they determined was that the phosphorescence in each gem studied could appear pink, aqua, red or orange.

Myths Surrounding the Hope Diamond

Historically, diamonds had myths surrounding them both good and bad as far back in history as 3500 BC when they were first discovered. Here are a few interesting facts that have been recorded over time:

In 3000 BC, the Egyptian hierarchy wore diamonds to represent the sun, courage, truth, and as a symbol of power.

In ancient India, Hindus wore diamonds as a symbol of invincibility and clarity.

The ancient Greeks and Romans believed diamonds were actually the tears of the gods. Plato once wrote that diamonds embodied the celestial spirits of living beings.

In ancient times, the breast plates of Kings were studded with diamonds because it was believed they had magical superpowers. Wearers were seen as invincible, strong and would have good fortune.

Between the 5th and 15th century, diamonds were referred to as “miracle stones” because it was believed they had magical healing powers. Unfortunately, they also discovered that swallowing powdered diamonds resulted in death.

Jewish high priests utilized diamonds to determine guilt or innocence. If the diamond sparkled the individual was considered innocent and if not, they were guilty.

As for the Hope Diamond, its popularity is partially due to the myths surrounding it:

Legend has it that in India the Hope Diamond was originally found embedded in an idol. It was ripped out of the idol by a French merchant and the Hindu priests became so angry they cursed it. A gruesome death was foretold to all who possessed it and anyone that dared touch it. The original thief, for example, was torn apart by wild dogs.

In 1715 King Louis XIV of France bought the Hope Diamond and died of gangrene. Almost all of his children and grandchildren died, so he was succeeded by his five year-old great grandson Louis XV.

In 1792 King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were beheaded during the French Revolution. It is said that it was because of the diamond’s curse.

King George IV of England owned the Hope Diamond next and died completely destitute.

It was said that the Titanic sunk in 1912 because the Hope Diamond was aboard.

American Evalyn Walsh-McLean came into possession of the Hope Diamond after which her life was beset by tragedies and debt.

Where Is the Hope Diamond Today?

The Hope Diamond is currently housed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in the Department of Mineral Sciences in Washington D.C. It was donated by Harry Winston in 1958 and receives over 100 million visitors a year. Unlike its previous history, the Smithsonian has always viewed the stone as a sign of good luck.

People often wonder about the value of the Hope Diamond. According to S.H. Zell & Sons Fine Jewelry in New York, New York the value of the gem is $350 million. According to the Smithsonian, however, it is priceless in that it is irreplaceable. However, in 2009 they insured it for $250 million. The thought most gemologists adopt according to Diamond Cutters International is “How can you set a value on the only one of something?”.

Summing Up

The history, curses and myths surrounding the Hope Diamond is actually a parable about the cardinal transgression of greed. The original thief died a horrendous death while later owners, even though unaware of the curse, went through tragedies and forms of suffering as well. It was only when a pure-hearted person, Harry Winston, donated rather than sell the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institution that the curse was broken.

So what is the Hope Diamond? It is one of the greatest treasures in the world that would have an enormous amount to tell us if only it could talk.

  1. What a chilling story about the legendary Hope diamond.

    1. Forgot to say – Good Morning!

My Sunday won’t be a day of rest – I’m packing, loading, traveling to the Village, unloading – and will be staying for several days – taking the sewing machine and all the wheelchair sewing supplies.

We have the wheelchair tech guy coming to work on Sally Q’s wheelchairs this week, replacing parts and hopefully getting all three up and running. She has to have two working chairs at all times and we have a third one in the hole just in case one needs to go to the shop.

I’m making a wide knee strap for her wheelchair (she lives in them 24/7) to go across her knees to keep them from frog-legging up and getting her feet out of position in the chair and being uncomfortable or getting hurt. That has happened several times, leading to slow-healing lesions. Complication – metal parts I ordered to attach the new belt were sent in insecure fragile paper envelopes – TWICE – and arrived empty. I asked for a refund and ordered from a different supplier…hoping for expedited shipping.

Lately – other shippers have been weird and careless – Example – I ordered an electric kettle that arrived in a thin mfg. box – with no tape – and – no cord or hot plate. Amazon had them send me another one and it came taped in the same thin box, but thankfully undamaged. Seems like the days of conscientious workers and quality control are long gone.

Her Dad is having surgery on Monday to inject the new-fangled superglue into two fractured vertebrae that were broken along with his cheekbone (they don’t recommend surgery on this) and teeth (already removed) when he fell off a ladder in Sally’s apartment. The repair is supposed to lessen his pain and make it less likely that a wrong move will render him paralyzed or crippled. We pray her Dad has good results and no complications and a safe return to the Village.

Hope we can get all the jobs done – and that Sally Q. doesn’t fire any caregivers this time around. Last time I was there for two months getting helpers arranged and trained, she and her main caregiver fired them and her Dad backed her. So, I have backed off from caregiver business and let them handle that. If she fires anyone – she and they will have to replace them. I’m confining myself to equipment, repairs and modifications.

I have noticed that myself with packaging lately…slightly thicker and sturdy boxes are gone. Altho i will admit, some of the tyvek envelopes fare much better than the thin cardboard stuff. But paper envelopes? what were they thinking?
I’ll keep you all in my prayers GA!!

  6. If Our Senior Leaders in the Military will not Fight Against Unlawful Mandates, Who Will?
The Biden Administration’s egregious destruction of military personnel’s constitutional rights.

    ROBERT W MALONE MD, MS
    APR 15, 2023

“Dr. Robert Malone, Ret. Army Major Gen. Paul Vallely and Ret. Lt. Col. Dave Trombly join The Constitutional Colonel Larry Kaifesh Show to discuss the Biden Administration’s egregious destruction of military personnel’s constitutional rights. The attack on our military was from the top down, starting with Commander in Chief Biden, all the way down to career military leaders who exposed themselves as spineless by allowing and promoting NON-FDA approved experimental vaccine products to be used in the government’s illegal and destructive forced mandates of our brave military people.

Dr. Robert Malone, an American physician and biochemist whose early work focused on mRNA technology, pharmaceuticals, and drug repurposing research, helped get the word out to the masses during the COVID-19 pandemic urging them to not take the experimental mRNA vaccines. Although many in the military did their homework and researched facts surrounding the sketchy vaccine products that were being forced upon military personnel through Biden’s unconstitutional vaccine mandates, a large population of the military personnel opted to cooperate with the government and take the experimental vaccines. One included a high-ranking military leader who recently outed himself as among those tragically vaccine injured, suffering debilitating symptoms following a second jab. When this high-ranking military leader alerted others above him of the injury, he was urged to keep his mouth shut because they still needed to mass distribute the vaccines to more military personnel.

The story is verified by Lt. Col. David Trombly “T-bone,” an Author, Grounded and Cured (Wellness Marketing Corps, 2021). 7. “Pfizer funded a CDC “behavior change” project that targeted vaccine critics with psyops”
Friday, April 14, 2023 by: Ethan Huff

EXCERPT: “(Natural News) A new report has shed fresh light on the connection between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and numerous private-sector drug, vaccine, and health care companies that have been working together to silence vaccine critics from speaking their minds.

The Public Good Projects (PGP), as it is benevolently dubbed, describes itself as a public health non-profit group centered around “large-scale monitoring programs, social and behavior change interventions.” The truth, though, is that it is a fascist public-private operation aimed at keeping a lid on the deadly truth about vaccines.

PGP is little more than a mass censorship operation that, especially at the height of the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) “pandemic,” kept itself busy de-platforming doctors and other medical specialists who tried to sound the alarm about the dangers of Fauci Flu shots.

In addition to the CDC and the FDA, other PGP partners include Kaiser Permanente, Rockefeller, and Humana, according to the Tennessee Department of Health, which identified these partners from the biography of PGP CEO Dr. Joe Smyser.”

Patel, a former federal prosecutor, said he does not believe “for a single second, this guy — a 21-year-old Air National Guardsman — ran this operation alone.”

Patel said, first, the suspected leaker, Jack Teixeira, would not have had access to the information without someone within the Department of Defense (DOD) or the intelligence community giving it to him, providing it to him, or telling him it should be put out there. “It’s just not possible,” he said.

He said even though he worked in information technology (IT), he still would not have had access to the information.

“You can be the biggest IT person in DOD, and you are still compartmented off of the actual information. Almost never does an IT person need to know, as we say, the substance of the intelligence. Their job is to provide the secure informations systems around it to protect any disclosures,” he said.”

  9. “That Kaiser Gun Study The Media Love Is Garbage”
    BY: DAVID HARSANYI
    APRIL 14, 2023

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ TheFederalist: “It’s become virtually impossible to find reliable data or polling on gun violence these days. A new Kaiser Family Foundation report being shared by virtually every major media outlet this week offers us a good example of why. The headlines report that “1 in 5 adults” in the United States claim that a “family member” has been “killed” by a gun. And, let’s just say, that’s a highly dubious claim.

There are 333 million people living in the United States, and somewhere around 259 million of them are over the age of 18. Twenty percent of those adults equals nearly 52 million people. There were more than 40,000 gun deaths in 2022, and around 20,000 of them were homicides — a slight dip from a Covid-year historic high that followed decades of lows. So, according to Kaiser’s polling, every victim of gun violence in the past few years had hundreds, if not thousands, of “family members.”

Now, to be fair, we can’t really run the numbers because Kaiser doesn’t define its terms or parameters. For example, what constitutes a “family member”? Is your second cousin a family member? Because if so, that creates quite the nexus of people. What about your stepbrother’s second cousin? Or how about your uncle who died in Iraq? Or how about that grandfather you never met who committed suicide in 1968? Kaiser could have asked people about their “immediate” relatives. The opacity is the point.

Then again, you can always spot a misleading firearms study by checking if the authors conflate suicides and murders. Kaiser does. The underlying problems leading to a homicide or a suicide are typically very different. So are the solutions. There are numerous countries with virtually no private gun ownership that have persistently high suicide rates. There isn’t any other societal problem in which Kaiser wouldn’t stress the distinction between criminality and mental health struggles.

But even if we count suicides, the claim is fantastical. As are many of the others. If we trust this poll, we would have to accept that around 50 million Americans were personally threatened with a gun. And that 54 percent of American adults — which can be extrapolated to mean 140 million adults — have personally or have a family member who has witnessed a shooting, been threatened by a gun, or been injured or killed by one. (Another 28 percent, or 72 million people, contend they have carried a gun in self-defense — which is also exceedingly unlikely.)

Kaiser’s “key findings” highlight many issues tied to anti-gun activist talking points. In the middle of polling, Kaiser conveniently switches up the definition of an “adult” from 18 and older to over 19, so it can regurgitate the claim that firearms are the leading cause of death among children. Kaiser wonders if your “health care provider” has talked to you about guns or gun safety. Did you know, Kaiser asks, that 6 in 10 parents with guns in their households say a gun is stored in the same location as ammunition?

What Kaiser doesn’t mention in its press-friendly “key findings” — and no media piece I’ve read mentions — is that 82 percent of those polled feel “very” or “somewhat safe” from gun violence in their own neighborhoods. Only 18 percent of Americans say they worry about gun violence on a daily or almost daily basis, while 43 percent say they worry about it “rarely” or “never.” So, you’re telling me, half of American adults have personally experienced gun violence themselves or toward someone in their family, but less than 20 percent worry about it often?

There are numerous other problems with Kaiser’s findings. Perhaps the most important, though, is the sample size. Granted, I’m no polling expert, but I suspect that the self-reported thoughts of 1,271 people — answering a bunch of poorly defined questions about a highly emotional and politically charged issue “online and by telephone” — should not be relied on with any certitude. And yet, there isn’t a single establishment media reporter writing about the report that exhibits a hint of skepticism.”

          1. IDK…..first article that popped up:
“WASHINGTON – Four people were killed and several others wounded late on Saturday at a teenager’s Sweet 16 birthday party in the southern US state of Alabama, local media reported.

Television station WRBL early on Sunday reported heavy police activity and crime scene tape around a building in Dadeville, Alabama, where it said white sheets could be seen covering parts of the floor.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the State Bureau of Investigations have launched an investigation at the request of the Dadeville Police Chief.

“This morning, I grieve with the people of Dadeville and my fellow Alabamians. Violent crime has NO place in our state, and we are staying closely updated by law enforcement as details emerge,” Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said on Twitter.

Law enforcement agencies have not publicly confirmed any injuries or fatalities, but local media and witnesses said several wounded people – the majority of them teens – had been taken to local hospitals for medical attention.

WRBL reported that in a preliminary investigation, police and sheriff’s office investigators suspected that an altercation led to a shooting at the party, which happened at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

The United States, a country of around 330 million people, is awash with some 400 million guns, and deadly mass shootings are a regular occurrence.

Late on Saturday, police confirmed that two people were killed and four others wounded in a shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, the same city where a gunman slaughtered five people at a bank on April 10. ”

  10. Lake Tahoe is clearing–but not because of anything MAN has done–nature is amazing on it’s own!
    FTA
But it is nothing that humans have done that has clarified the waters:

… a report from the Tahoe Environmental Research Center concluded that the change in zooplankton was the largest contributor toward improving the lake’s clarity.

Two notable zooplankton returned this past fall and winter – daphnia and bosmina. They had largely disappeared from Tahoe after invasive mysis shrimp were introduced in the 1960s. The shrimp were so abundant in the lake that a California nonprofit group was studying ways to harvest the shrimp and turn them into dog treats.

In 2021, the mysis shrimp population crashed unexpectedly, and a year later, daphnia and bosmina were thriving.

The waters of Lake Tahoe are clearing up because God made creatures that clean it up. They are not clearing up because of the radical green agenda or because we are being forced to drive flammable, polluting electric cars instead of efficient affordable gasoline powered vehicles. The Sierra Nevada mountains also had record snowpack that occurred cyclically and naturally. This came after years of warmists enthusiastically predicting that drought was future of California thanks to our CO2 emissions.

EXCERPT: “So yesterday, I spent two hours getting thoroughly depressed reading about trans legislation and court actions across the country and around the world. The intent had been to do some sort of summary (pro and against), but…

Frankly, I am having a hard time processing it all. In the end, I feel like there is so much more to just explaining how the world got to this point. Because making sense of this mess is going to require a deep dive into some ugly history.

In 2018, Psychology Today published an article summarizing trans research and what was happening in the culture that is truly shocking. That is, a large minority of kids have developed a belief system whereby they, as a group, espouse that being a normal biological female or male is akin to being immoral and evil. This bizarre concept has spread across social media and has infiltrated even down to elementary schools. This is a set of cultural beliefs which have morphed from groupthink and rebellion on social media to going viral throughout an age cohort which is vulnerable to new concepts being permanently instilled into their mindsets.”

    A MIDWESTERN DOCTOR
    APR 14, 2023
Note: This article was initially published on Mercola.com. Since publication, recent events compelled me to add another section to the end of the article.

EXCERPT: “One of the most significant challenges I have faced throughout my medical career is having watched physicians on so many occasions push dangerous and unnecessary treatments on patients, assuring them that they are safe. Some of these treatments inevitably injure those patients. When this happens, if the patient asks about causation, the doctor will tend to insist that the injury had nothing to do with the doctor’s therapy and instead attribute it to some other cause, like pre-existing anxiety.

This dynamic is commonly referred to as medical gaslighting (summarized here). One of the most perplexing things about it is that most doctors who gaslight their patients are intelligent individuals who sincerely want the best for their patients. Since this profound contradiction is so systemic throughout the medical field, the problem transcends the individual doctor, and the root causes must be examined to understand why it happens. For example, a significant issue is that physicians go through a medical training process that does not provide trainees with the capacity to be able to recognize most medical injuries.

Medical Education and Medical Ethics —

Medical education is currently structured so that medical schools are primarily judged by their ability to prepare students to get good scores on board exams. As a result, pre-clinical curriculums are geared towards maximizing board-relevant content, of which there is a lot—leading to the first two years of medical school commonly being analogized to the student drinking from a fire hose. This focus, in turn, prevents a significant amount of material (which many believe is vital for becoming a competent physician) from making it into the pre-clinical curriculum (which is a problem since the structured component of one’s medical education largely disappears after the pre-clinical years conclude).

One largely neglected subject in our medical training is medical ethics. Presently, medical school accreditation bodies require this subject to somehow be taught within the curriculum, and the medical board exams provide a few questions testing the subject. This results in the medical ethics education typically consisting of a few lectures that are geared mainly toward learning the concepts tested on boards.”

    1. if and when the doctor wants to prescribe something new, I ask for the name/generic name and dosage he’s thinking. I always tell him, I will research it and if i feel comfortable with the side effects and what i learn about the drug, I’ll let him know. If not, he should suggest something else

  19. so the postal system should install EV charging stations and make them available to the public–because it would enhance their environmental reputations—are you kidding me?
    FTA
USPS told the GAO that its retail employees “may not have the capacity or skills to plan and operate public charging programs” and they “would likely have to respond to charging equipment problems while also being responsible for carrying out their normal job duties.”

USPS said it is prohibited from earning revenue from non-mail services, so there would be “no potential financial benefits” for operating public chargers.

But “stakeholders” interviewed by the GAO—which included the Department of Energy, electric vehicle companies, and advocacy groups—argued that the plan would benefit the USPS by enhancing its “environmental reputation” and increasing its “community relevance.”

The GAO report still urged USPS to install private EV chargers at its facilities for its workforce, saying this would help the agency “plan for potential future needs in a financially responsible manner.”
