WHO INVENTED BIRTHDAYS AND THE SAYING “HAPPY BIRTHDAY?”

A few minutes ago, I was contemplating the fact that my BD is a couple of days away. I had received more than one request for the date in order to host a little “celebration” for me on the blogs. I sincerely appreciate them thinking of me and wanting to do something for me.

The issue for me is this: birthdays mean nothing to me – I have literally forgotten it even WAS my birthday until my Sis called: “Oh, it IS my BD, isn’t it???” I had nothing to do with being born – I had no choice in the matter. In my eyes, it’s not a celebration of my accomplishments: how I’ve improved in various ways, good changes I was a part of bringing about, the people I’ve helped…..those are the kinds of things I believe deserve celebration.

Celebrating children’s birthdays, on the other hand, helps to instill confidence, let’s them know they are loved and appreciated, that they have value and are deserving, etc., etc. Kids NEED that – adults should not! Of course, it would be hurtful for a person to ignore their significant other’s BD – certainly you want your partner to recognize the day with you. Beyond that….whatever!

As with any of my editorials, this is my opinion only and YMMV. I’m sure having lived alone for so many years also has something to do with it but even if HB or the grands or anyone else were to forget? Meh – I might jokingly poke them but I wouldn’t really care much.

In any case, as usual, my mind promptly went to the “why and how” of the “Happy Birthday” tradition. Source: happybirthday2all.com

What Does Birthday Mean? Why We Celebrate Birthdays? What is a birthday?

A birthday is a tradition of marking the anniversary of the birth of a person, fictional character, or an organization. Birthday is the day when a person first enters in the living world. Birthdays are celebrated all over the world in different ways. Some people also celebrate the birthdays of their God, celebrities, and founders of their religion.

Wondering who invented birthdays?

Birthdays are a way to celebrate surviving one more year, sharing and creating memories with your friends, family, and loved ones. There is a lot of research performed to find out the origin of celebrating birthdays and cutting a birthday cake. However, the research remained inconclusive.

The 18th birthday of a person holds special significance in many cultures because at this age the person is considered to be transformed from a child to an adult. The 25th birthday is known as a Silver jubilee, 50th birthday means golden Jubilee and if you are lucky enough to celebrate your 100th birthday then it is known as Platinum Jubilee.

What does a birthday really mean?

Your birthday is a day to celebrate the time you have spent on this earth. You have successfully managed to live one more year, gained a lot of experiences, created memories, learned new things, met new people and many more things might have changed from your last birthday. It’s time you spend some quality time with your friends and family and make a plan to achieve more in the upcoming year.

Why do we celebrate birthdays? & Why is birthday special?

Birthdays are special because they provide you an opportunity to look back at the time spent you have spent from your birth until now. So, here are some reasons [excuses?] that make it fun and special to celebrate your birthdays.

  • Birthday celebration makes it easy to eat tasty birthday cake and get lots of gifts
  • A chance to thank God for keeping you safe, happy, and healthy for one more year
  • Birthdays give you the excuse to party like there is no tomorrow
  • Meet with your relatives, friends, and family
  • An excuse to get drunk without the consequences
  • An excuse to take a holiday from the office to celebrate your birthday
  • An excuse to dress up in your best dress and then show off to your friends
  • Clicking lots of funny pics and selfies and then posting them on social media to make your friends jealous
  • Go for shopping and having a big fat dinner at the place of your choice
  • Getting blessings from your elders and grandparents

So, to conclude, you could say that it doesn’t matter when birthday celebrations originated or why birthdays are celebrated. What matters is that you spend some quality time and enjoy the day of your birth. If you are going to celebrate the birthday of your loved one then you should get a gift, a beautiful greeting card, a lovely birthday wish, and maybe organize a small party to make him/her happy.

    1. Morning, GA! Here ya’ go!

“Birthday cakes have been a tradition since the Ancient Romans were around, and celebrating someone’s birth with a delicious pastry seems pretty logical. But have you ever wondered who the first pyromaniac was to light a cake on fire?

There are a few theories about the origins of birthday candles.

Some believe that the tradition of birthday candles began in Ancient Greece, when people brought cakes adorned with lit candles to the temple of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. The candles were lit to make them glow like the moon, a popular symbol associated with Artemis.

Many ancient cultures also believed that smoke carried their prayers to the heavens. Today’s tradition of making wishes before blowing out your birthday candles may have started with that belief.

Others believe that the tradition of birthday candles started with the Germans. In 1746, Count Ludwig Von Zinzindorf celebrated his birthday with an extravagant festival. And, of course, a cake and candles: “there was a Cake as large as any Oven could be found to bake it, and Holes made in the Cake according to the Years of the Person’s Age, every one having a Candle stuck into it, and one in the Middle.”

The Germans also celebrated with birthday candles during Kinderfest, a birthday celebration for children in the 1700s. A single birthday candle was lit and placed on the cake to symbolize the “light of life.”

Now that Ron DeSanctimonious is finally admitting he’s in the Race by beginning to fight back, and now that his Polls have crashed so he has no other choice, let me explain the facts. He is, for a Republican, an average Governor, he got 1.2 million less Votes in Florida than me, he fought for massive cuts in Social Security and Medicare, and wanted Social Security minimum age to be raised to 70-years-old, or more. He is a disciple of Paul Ryan, and did whatever Ryan told him to do

Florida has been successful for many years, long before I put Ron there—It’s amazing what Ocean & Sunshine will do! Surprise, Ron was a big Lockdown Governor on the China Virus, sealing all beaches and everything else for an extended period of time, was Third Worst in the Nation for COVID-19 Deaths (losing 86,294 People), Third Worst for Total # of Cases, at 7,516,906. Other Republican Governors did MUCH BETTER than Ron and, because I allowed them this “freedom,” never closed their States

Remember, I left that decision up to the Governors! For COVID Death Rates Per State, Ron, as Governor of Florida, did worse than New York. In Education, Florida ranks among the worst in the Country and on crime statistics, Florida ranked Third Worst in Murder, Third Worst in Rape, and Third Worst in Aggravated Assault. For 2022, Jacksonville was ranked as one of the Top 25 Major Crime Cities in the Country, with Tampa and Orlando not doing much better…

On Education, Florida ranks #39 in Health & Safety in the Country, #50 in Affordability, and #30 in Education & Childcare, HARDLY GREATNESS THERE! The fact is, Ron is an average Governor, but the best by far in the Country in one category, Public Relations, where he easily ranks Number One—But it is all a Mirage, just look at the facts and figures, they don’t lie—And we don’t want Ron as our President!

As of 12/22: “How much U.S. land is actually owned by investors from countries with often adversarial or choppy relations with the U.S.? The answer is: not many.

To determine which foreign countries own the most U.S. land, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed data from a report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Foreign Holdings of U.S. Agricultural Land through Dec. 31, 2020. Countries are ranked by the total area of agricultural land, in acres, held by individuals and entities from that country. All data is from the report

Nearly 55% of all foreign-owned land parcels in the U.S. are owned by interests from just six countries, all of which are close U.S. allies like the Netherlands, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Canadian investors lead this pack, by a long shot, with nearly 9.4 million acres of U.S. land — more acreage than 44 of the top 50 foreign landowners combined, according to the report. (These people own the most land in America.)

Investors from countries with less friendly relations also hold agricultural land in the U.S. These include China, with 194,179 acres, Venezuela with 28,058 acres, and Saudi Arabia with 18,586 acres. Compare that to U.S. land ownership from investors in Germany (1.2 million acres), France (643,710 acres), and Switzerland (313,122 acres).

Still, in some cases, investors who own the largest amount of U.S. land could use companies incorporated in third party countries like the Netherlands or the Cayman Islands to mask their country of origin.

When looking at the value of the agricultural land owned by foreign interests, Chinese investors rank among the top 10 with $1.9 billion worth of U.S. land. Investors in the six countries with more valuable U.S. land holdings than China hold U.S. land with a combined value of nearly $29.3 billion. (This is the most expensive place to buy land.)”

    Rep. Matt Gaetz:

Today I will be introducing the “FBI Washington Field Office House Arrest Act.” It calls for the House of Representatives to halt all spending allocated towards the FBI’s new proposed headquarters outside the District of Columbia.

There are still good men and women in the FBI whose task and purpose are to defend our country, but the FBI’s weaponized Washington Field Office is rotten to the core.

Through our investigations in the Select Subcommittee on the @Weaponization

of the Federal Government, we have uncovered extremely disturbing testimony from FBI whistleblowers that the Washington Field Office is targeting Americans who oppose their corrupt political agenda.

The cancer at the Washington Field Office has metastasized so large that the entire body is in critical condition. Gifting the FBI a new headquarters larger than the Pentagon would condone, reinforce, and enable their nefarious behavior to levels we have never seen before.

  8. “What is the State Dept. Hiding from the Senate? Senator Paul confronts Secretary of State Blinken about clandestine coronavirus research.”
    Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH™
    By JOHN LEAKE

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Secretary of State Antony Blinken just testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, during which he was confronted by minority committee member Rand Paul. As Senator Paul states, leaked State Department cables sent years prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic expressed alarm about lax security in Chinese Biosecurity Labs. As it turns out, the State Department was (yet another federal agency!) involved in coronavirus research projects, components of which were conducted in China.

As Senator Paul emphasizes, the grant proposals and papers he has repeatedly requested are NOT classified. The trouble is not the legality of divulging them to the Senate, but the State Department’s refusal to divulge them.

Senator Paul’s questioning of Blinken caught my eye because it reminded me of something that Senator Ron Johnson told us when we visited him at his office last summer—namely, that various federal agencies simply refuse to fulfill his requests for information. It wasn’t the time and place for me to query him about this, but I was astounded by his statement that executive branch appointees and bureaucrats apparently feel no obligation to respond to requests from an elected representative of the People.

Has the Legislative Branch (provided for in Article I. of the U.S. Constitution) become generally weaker than the Executive Branch, or does this lack of power only afflict minority members?

Madison warned about the danger of an “overgrown executive,” but I don’t recall what exactly he proposed as a remedy to this problem that has recurred throughout history. I wonder if there are any Constitutional scholars among our readership who could shed light on this.

Back to Blinken’s testimony: Why does the State Department feel compelled to conceal its coronavirus research documentation from the Senate? Antony Blinken’s dodgy answers to Senator Paul’s questions are reminiscent of Anthony Fauci’s dodgy answers to the Senator’s questions.

Until recently, I would have suggested that the matter be referred to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation, but that increasingly strikes me as the historical equivalent of the Roman Senate asking the Emperor Nero’s prefect of the Praetorian Guard to investigate suspicions of corruption in the imperial household.

    1. if you think about it, the executive is prone to growth. they keep inventing agencies and then give them “regulatory” authority which that agency determines to be law and then they issue decrees and fines and whatnot.
the legislative branch needs to reclaim THEIR authority and reign in those agencies.

  11. Hmmm….this is an unusual perspective, altho not unheard of….that the COVID virus never existed in the first place. Long article.

EXCERPT: “Consequently, no other conclusion is supported by the facts than that it’s a huge crime, extensively planned. In itself, that rules out a natural emergence of a pathogen, unless divine providence occurred. Logically we’re left with a leak or, as I argue, a lie plus a PsyOp. The former may or may not be possible, but what isn’t arguable is that something like this could be done and would be likely to run smoothly, with a real pathogen. Almost any outcome but the one presumably wanted is likely if a pathogen is released. I can reach no other conclusion than that it’s fake.

In closing, I’m not saying people weren’t sick or that they didn’t die in huge numbers. I’m arguing only about the causes of illnesses and deaths. People were made sick and some killed by all the pre-existing causes, amplified by fear, resulting in immunosuppression and then a host of revolting actions. Note even the official overlap of signs and symptoms of ‘Covid-19’ and existing illnesses. Notably, they chopped antibiotic prescriptions in the US by 50 per cent during 2020. They ensured large numbers of frail elderly people were mechanically ventilated, a procedure which, in such subjects, is close to contraindicated. Some were administered remdesivir, which is a poison for the kidneys. In care homes, they were given midazolam and morphine, respiratory depressant drugs which in combination are all but contraindicated in patients with breathing difficulties. If used, close monitoring is required, most usually automated alarm systems attached to vital cardiorespiratory monitoring, including fingertip monitoring for blood gases. That didn’t happen in care homes.

I believe the main reason for the lies about the novel virus is a desire for total predictability and control, with the clearly articulated intention of transforming society; beginning by dismantling the financial system through lockdowns and furlough, while the immediate practical goal of lockdown was to provide the causus belli for injecting as many people as possible with materials designed not to induce immunity, but to demand repeat inoculation, to cause injury and death, and to control freedom of movement. I’m sure they’re pretty content with getting at least one needle into 6,000,000,000 people.

Note that though an estimated 10-15million have been killed with poisonous ‘vaccines’, these are the but first of many mRNA injections to come. The indications are that ways to force you to accept ten more have been anticipated, because that’s the number of doses your government has agreed to purchase. Purchasing what? Well, it’s already been mooted that all existing vaccines are to be reformatted as mRNA types. If this happens, I don’t believe anyone injected ten more times is likely to escape death or severe, life-limiting illnesses. Inducing your body to manufacture non-self proteins will axiomatically induce an autoimmune attack by your own body. Your disease will be related to where the injected dose goes and of course the consistency of that injected product. They’ve been horribly erratic so far. It’s not certain they ever could have been made and launched if they had been subject to the usual quality requirements and not granted ’emergency use’ authorisations. Of course, as we now know, the regulators played an important role beyond lying for the US military, the organisation which made the original orders for ‘vaccines’, and set all the contractual conditions for companies such as Moderna and Pfizer.

The chickens are coming home to roost right now in the banking system.

As I always say, I cannot know much for sure. I don’t have a copy of the script of this, the greatest crime in history. But, whatever Covid actually is, I don’t believe that what was called influenza disappeared conveniently in early 2020. It’s another lie. It’s what they do. It’s all they do.

To those who sense that all is not well but are unwilling to make the psychological leap to the diabolical world I believe we’re now living in, I point out the asymmetry of risk. If you follow the official narrative and I’m right, you and your children will lose all your freedoms and probably your lives. If you believe what I’m saying and I’m wrong, you’ll be laughed at. These options aren’t faintly balanced. A rational actor should cease believing what we’re being told. It’s not a safe position, keeping your counsel and your head down. It’s the most dangerous thing you could do.”

During an appropriations hearing on university funding, Pennsylvania state representative La’Tasha Mayes (D.) demanded that Pitt disinvite Cabot Phillips, Riley Gaines, and Michael Knowles from upcoming campus events. All three speakers have a history of “targeting transgender students,” Mayes claimed—especially Knowles, whom she accused of saying that “transgender people should be eradicated.”

Mayes called on university chancellor Patrick Gallagher, who was at the hearing to request additional funding from the state, to “cancel the speakers who are coming to campus”—implying that she might vote against his request if he did not. Mayes did not respond to a request for comment.

The exchange alarmed Speech First, a legal nonprofit focused on First Amendment issues, which called Mayes’s remarks an “abuse of power.”

“The state is saying that if the university doesn’t violate its students’ First Amendment rights, then their funding could be at risk,” Cherise Trump, Speech First’s executive director, said in a statement on Wednesday. “Lawmakers shouldn’t be using veiled threats to hold funding over universities simply because they don’t like a person who was invited to speak.”

The over-the-counter drops by EzriCare and Delsam Phama, first recalled in February, have now been linked to cases in 16 states across the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in an updated alert Tuesday of a tally from March 14, meaning it could now be higher.

“The American public deserves to see the last 50 pages of communications between Anthony Fauci, Francis Collins, and Jeremy Farrar related to the origins of COVID-19. Refusing to provide Congress with unredacted emails is a cover-up, plain and simple. What are they hiding?”

“The format of books just won’t interest them. Social media, video games, and quick online videos are all tough competition for the experience of reading a paper-and-ink book. Kids need adults to help them slow down a bit and set aside time to read, but parents – for the most part these days – think it’s someone else’s job to teach and care for their kids.

Kids who don’t like to read probably haven’t experienced the joy of getting lost in the magic of a story or learning something new about a favorite topic. So reading may feel like a lot of work for no particular reason. Also – at the core of the problem is this – They’re struggling with basic reading skills. The process of learning to read isn’t easy, and some kids have more trouble with reading than others.”

“Another one bites the dust. Chevrolet announced Wednesday that production of the Camaro will end in January of next year. The move follows Dodge’s plan to discontinue the Challenger at the end of 2023 and replace its V8 muscle car models with a vehicle based on the all-electric Charger Daytona SRT concept.

The current sixth-generation Camaro has been on sale since the 2016 model year and has fallen to a distant third behind the Challenger and Ford Mustang in the “pony car” sales race. Chevrolet, along with the rest of the General Motors brands, is working toward having an all-electric passenger car lineup by 2035. The brand hasn’t said if an internal combustion engine successor to the Camaro is in the works, but it did recently announce a $854 million investment in new V8 engines for its trucks and SUVs.”

    March 23, 2023
editor: REMIX NEWS author: THOMAS BROOKE
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “An asylum seeker who roamed freely across Europe before ending up in the Netherlands and stabbing his therapist to death had already murdered two people ahead of his voyage to Europe, sources from the murder investigation told De Telegraaf newspaper. In November last year, a Nigerian national was a patient at the Veldzicht Center for Transcultural Psychiatry in the eastern village of Balkbrug, when he engaged in a stabbing spree that left one staff member dead and two others seriously injured.

An investigation into the attack revealed the assailant locked himself in another room immediately after the attack where he attempted to start a fire before eventually taking his own life with the same knife used to attack the employees. A motive for the attack has not yet been established. The newspaper reported the reluctance of the Dutch Ministry of Justice and the Veldzicht clinic to disclose any details about the attacker’s background, although it has been widely acknowledged the man suffered from a serious psychiatric disorder.

However, sources close to the investigation have been able to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the incident. The attacker was known as 31-year-old Ambrose Joy Lucky, who was born in Nigeria but traveled to Europe in 2017. He first embarked on the Mediterranean migratory route from Libya to reach Italy where his asylum application was rejected.

Authorities, however, failed to deport the man who soon left Italy and traveled through Austria and Germany before arriving in the Netherlands where he attempted once more to claim asylum. Lucky was involved in a number of altercations during his residence in asylum reception centers, with the Dutch newspaper reporting that he was responsible for “a lot of nuisance and danger.” He committed several crimes including vandalism, threats, trespassing and arson before he was eventually detained at the Veldzicht clinic.

An investigation into the incident unearthed key background evidence revealing the Nigerian national had committed murder on two separate occasions before heading to Europe. The first in his homeland of Nigeria, where Lucky killed his own uncle after a dispute in 2014, and the second in Libya where he resided ahead of his migration to Europe, where he allegedly killed an employer with whom he had a pay dispute. It is unclear why this background information was not available to authorities reviewing his asylum applications in the Netherlands and prior to that, in Italy.

The incident last November led Dutch Secretary of State for Security Eric van der Burg to state the attack would never have happened “if Italy had adhered to European asylum agreements.” Strictly speaking, upon being received by the Dutch authorities, the asylum seeker should have been transported back to Italy for deportation in line with the Dublin Regulation; however, coronavirus restrictions at the time created issues with the process.”

  20. “EXPOSED: 23 Foods And How Ron DeSantis Eats Them”
    POLITICS · Mar 22, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

“Florida Governor and presumptive 2024 Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has faced increasing questions about his electability amid damning allegations that during a private flight in 2019, he found himself without a spoon and still proceeded to consume a pudding cup with 3 fingers. Horrifying! Here are 23 newly revealed DeSantis eating habits that may spell doom for his White House ambitions:

    1. String Cheese – chomps right into without even peeling off strings
    2. Raisin Bran – separates it and first eats one bowl of just raisins, then a bowl of just bran flakes
    3. Cheetos – crushes them up in his hands and licks them off
    4. Fish – tosses his head back and swallows it whole like a pelican
    5. Apple Juice – dips his shirt sleeves into the juice and wrings it out into his mouth
    6. Animal Crackers – pretends he’s a giant devouring all the helpless creatures of the jungle
    7. Oreos – licks the frosting off, puts the cookies back into the package
    8. Pop Rocks – leans over next to your ear and opens his mouth
    9. French Fries – cracks them open to eat the insides like crab legs
    10. Chicken Nuggets – meticulously peels the skin off first
    11. Bugles – sticks them onto his fingers and pretends he’s Wolverine
    12. Teddy Graham’s – names them all, makes up little bear adventures for them to go on in Bearland
    13. Fun Dip – snorts it
    14. Oranges – tosses it down the hatch whole and unpeeled
    15. Apples – same as oranges
    16. Pizza – picks the toppings off with chopsticks and then slurps the cheese off
    17. PB&J – uses the same knife in both peanut butter & jelly jars, licks off in between applications
    18. Hamburger – takes a bite then squirts the condiments in his mouth
    19. Sushi – politely uses a fork and knife
    20. Rice – raw, one grain at a time, chewed like sunflower seeds
    21. Chicken Wings – crunches down the whole thing, swallows the bone
    22. Subway – nothing weird here, just the fact that he eats Subway
    23. Alphabet Soup – rearranges the letters to spell out “President Ron DeSantis”

And that’s it. Before he could even get started, DeSantis was finished. It was nice knowing you, Ron!”

      1. “Pop Rocks are a cool candy that pops when you put them in your mouth. They make a sizzling sound as they dissolve, the tiny explosions feel interesting, plus (in my opinion) they taste good.

There was an urban legend that Mikey, the kid from the Life cereal ads who won’t eat anything, ate Pop Rocks and washed them down with cola, and then died when his stomach exploded. It’s completely untrue. If you swallow a handful of Pop Rocks and chug a soda, you’ll probably burp, but you won’t die. If Mikey barely tried Life cereal, why would he eat Pop Rocks anyway? How exactly do Pop Rocks work?”

Pop Rocks are a hard candy that has been gasified with carbon dioxide using a patented process. Pop Rocks are made by mixing sugar, lactose, corn syrup, water, and artificial colors/flavors. The solution is heated until the water boils off and combined with carbon dioxide gas at about 600 pounds per square inch (psi). When the pressure is released, the candy shatters into small pieces, each containing bubbles of pressurized gas. If you examine the candy with a magnifying glass, you can see the tiny bubbles of trapped carbon dioxide.

When you put Pop Rocks in your mouth, your saliva dissolves the candy, allowing the pressurized carbon dioxide to escape. It’s the popping of the pressurized bubbles that makes the sizzling sound and shoots pieces of candy around in your mouth.”

  21. “Grand Jury Canceled As DA Unable To Find Any Jurors Awesome Enough To Be Trump’s Peers”
    POLITICS · Mar 23, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

“NEW YORK, NY — The indictment of Trump by Alvin Bragg is in disarray this morning after the Manhattan DA was unable to find enough grand jurists awesome enough to be legally considered Trump’s peers.

“As a totally non-corrupt, Soros-backed District Attorney who respects the rule of law as applied to political enemies, It was important to make sure Trump was indicted by a jury of his peers,” said Bragg. “After searching high and low, we soon found out that Trump has zero peers. This is due to how beautiful, fantastic, and powerful he is. He has no equal. We’re honestly not sure what to do now.”

Sources confirmed the Manhattan DA office conducted a thorough search of the whole of New York City, and after several days was unable to find even one person who could match Trump in terms of raw, unadulterated power, intellect, and hand size.

“Frankly I’m not surprised by Little Alvin’s failure to assemble a jury,” said Trump in a statement. “All the smart geniuses left New York long ago, mainly me, and there’s no smarter genius than me, if we’re being honest. The only people left in New York are total disasters. They can’t even do a witch hunt properly. Sad!”

At publishing time, the DA claimed to have found a couple of qualified jurors but had to start his search over after they were killed on the subway.”

  22. school shooter’s parents charged with involumtary manslaughter after son kills 4
    entire article
The parents of the Oxford High School shooter will stand trial on four counts of involuntary manslaughter for the four deaths their son Ethan Crumbley caused in a November 2021 school shooting in what may be a precedent-setting case, the Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled.

The parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, have argued the charges have no legal justification and that they should not be held responsible for their son’s killings.

In a written opinion filed Thursday, a panel of judges for the state’s appellate court acknowledged the possible precedent-setting nature of this case – holding parents accountable for a child’s crimes – but called the situation unique and unusual.

“We share defendants’ concern about the potential for this decision to be applied in the future to parents whose situation viz-a-viz their child’s intentional conduct is not as closely tied together, and/or the warning signs and evidence were not as substantial as they are here,” wrote the panel.

The opinion said that those concerns are “significantly diminished” by the fact that Crumbley’s actions “were reasonably foreseeable, and that is the ultimate test that must be applied.”

In the opinion, the judges cited text messages in which Crumbley told his parents about experiencing paranoia and hallucinations, including his belief that a demon was in the house.

In a concurring opinion, Judge Michael Riordan also noted that the case was exceptional because of how clear it was that Crumbley was contemplating violence – and the fact that his parents provided him a handgun anyway.

“Our legal system does not, nor should it, criminally punish people for subpar, odd, or eccentric parenting, or require that children be deprived of any instrumentality that otherwise is legal to possess and use. Moreover, I suspect that parents do not reasonably assume, as a matter of course, that their children will commit violent crimes,” wrote Riordan wrote. “However, before us is the unusual case. EC was extraordinarily troubled, yet defendants nonetheless provided him with a handgun and, despite having discrete, disturbing evidence that EC contemplated harming others, did nothing when confronted with that evidence.”

Jennifer and James Crumbley can appeal the decision to Michigan’s Supreme Court, which previously ruled they should be bound over for trial.
James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of accused Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, have each been charged with four counts of homicide involuntary manslaughter.

What legal analysts say about charges against parents in Michigan school shooting
Parents were charged after 15-year-old son killed four classmates

Ethan Crumbley, 15 years old at the time, shot and killed four students and injured six students and a teacher at his Michigan high school in November 2021. He pleaded guilty in October to terrorism and murder charges. A hearing is set for May 1 where a circuit court judge will consider whether Crumbley, a minor prosecuted as an adult, can be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Crumbley’s parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were also arrested days after the shooting following a manhunt that led authorities to a Detroit warehouse. Accused of providing their son easy access to a firearm and disregarding warning signs, the pair were charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Prosecutors have argued the Crumbleys “willfully ignored the needs and well-being of their son and the threat he posed to others.” In a December 2021 court filing, they said that the parents knew their son was depressed and “fascinated” with guns.

On the day of the shooting, school officials held a meeting with James and Jennifer Crumbley after discovering disturbing drawings their son made featuring guns and the words, “The thoughts won’t stop help me.” The school advised the parents to provide counseling to their son within 48 hours. But the parents declined to take their son out of school and he returned to the classroom.

According to Ethan Crumbley’s statements in court, he retrieved a gun from an unlocked container in his home, hid it in his backpack, and pulled it out of his bag in a bathroom before opening fire on his classmates.

James Crumbley purchased the gun used by his son just four days before the massacre, according to prosecutors.

Attorneys for Crumbley’s parents previously indicated that they would want their son to testify in their defense should their case go to trial.

they need to charge them with something.
it’s not quite the same, but if your dog is showing signs of rabies and you ignore that and he bites someone and they die? i’d say you’re culpable.

  23. SERIOUSLY? TEN YEARS???? a $3.5 BILLION error????
    entire article
The South Carolina comptroller general, Richard Eckstrom, will resign next month after a $3.5bn accounting error in the year-end financial report he oversaw.

The state’s chief accountant, a Republican, will leave the elected post he has held for 20 years on 30 April, according to a copy of the resignation letter obtained by the Associated Press.

The revelation of the accounting blunder – which was undetected for nearly 10 years until its discovery by a staffer last year – placed Eckstrom under a harsh spotlight.

State house lawmakers called for an impeachment inquiry. A state senate panel investigated the error and issued a damning report last week, suggesting Eckstrom resign or face removal “for willful neglect of duty”.

The report rested responsibility for the error, that began during transition to a new internal information system, solely with Eckstrom.

State officials testified that Ecksrom ignored warnings from auditors of a “material weakness” in his office and flawed cash reporting.

“I have never taken service to the state I love or the jobs to which I have been elected lightly,” Eckstrom wrote in his 23 March resignation letter to the Republican governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster.

He had, he said, “endeavor[ed] to work with my colleagues, from constitutional officers to members of the General Assembly, to be a strong defender of the taxpayer and a good steward of their hard-earned tax dollars.

    “They deserve nothing less.”

According to the Post & Courier newspaper in Charleston, South Carolina, Eckstrom’s letter “did not mention the $3.5bn state budget overstatement”.

The error, the paper said, “never affected the state budget because lawmakers and state agencies don’t use the report generated by Eckstrom’s office, but the blunder may have misled Wall Street, which uses the report to assess the state’s financial health.

“Lawmakers were angry at being kept in the dark for so long.”

  24. even I know voting machines election computers should never be connected to the internet!
    entire article
A team of election experts in New Mexico uncovered an election system that is being used in that state and multiple other states that do not comply with election laws.

Election experts in New Mexico established that the post-election canvass reports in all 33 New Mexico Counties are being illegally prepared. Complete election records are being uploaded to an uncertified, centralized software under the control of the Secretary of State (SOS) called SERVIS, which is then used to create the official election results.

Use of any uncertified software for this part of the election process is a violation of federal and state law. And according to state law, the SOS is not to have access to the complete election record from any county until the election has been certified.

According to the experts, when the illegal canvass process is complete the SOS is having counties download election data from internet-connected SERVIS onto their “secure” election computers. At the same time, in New Mexico, Dominion voting systems have deleted the original election data from their system. This is a blatant violation of state and federal law that requires all election records to be kept for 22 months after any election with a federal candidate on the ballot. Also, without paper ballots, the original results for the election are eliminated.

A South Dakota company by the name of BPro “gifted” their TotalVote software to New Mexico, in exchange for a series of what would turn out to be very lucrative, sole-source contracts to develop a customized interface between the SOS, clerks, and TotalVote that they called “IRIS.” IRIS was renamed “SERVIS” (Statewide Elections, Registration and Voting Integrity System) in 2017.

According to the BPro website, TotalVote is a “centralized voter registration and election management system that securely captures and manages voter, candidate, and all election information. It is the only software system that encompasses the entire election process into one system.” (emphasis added).

TotalVote has no Election Assistance Commission (EAC) certifications whatsoever. Meaning it does not comply with the Help America Vote Act and it has never been tested by any accredited third party. However, as previously established, it is certainly touching parts of the election that require certification.

To date, New Mexico has paid BPro a total of $2,722,939 for the development and upkeep of SERVIS necessary to utilize their “gift” of TotalVote.

From reviewing the contracts, it appears that SERVIS took several years to fully develop. Online voter registration was launched in 2016, but the integration with the Motor Vehicle Department wasn’t functional until 2018. It is unclear when SERVIS began handling the entire post-election canvassing process.

Internal training documents indicate that limited election night data is uploaded on Election Day, but all of the election data from the electronic tabulators is uploaded the day after the election. Then SERVIS is used to create the canvass documents against federal law, and the SOS is given full access to the entire state’s data before any county has certified, against state law.

Further, state and federal law requires that only aggregated data—and not data from individual ballots—be used for election night reporting that appears on the SOS’s website. Also, there can be no access path from the election night reporting to any storage device used for official data.

The most disturbing discovery by far was this slide, titled “Protecting the Dominion Server Air Gap,” from internal training documents. It shows the clerks how they are to transfer their data from their Dominion Server to the SERVIS system and back again:

As the figure shows, USB memory sticks in “read-only” mode are being used to move data from the Dominion server, which houses the official digital election results for each county, to the internet-connected “SERVIS” computer. As soon as the results are uploaded into SERVIS the day after the election, the entire statewide results are accessible by multiple parties and could be manipulated and changed.

The instruction for downloading data from the “SERVIS Computer” back to the “Dominion Server” is to use USB memory sticks in “read-write” mode. This instruction is mind-blowing, and literally the opposite of “protecting the air gap.” What data does the SOS need to transfer to the counties since she is not supposed to have any part in finalizing a county’s election?

The obvious vulnerability? If election results needed to be changed by the SOS or anyone with authorized or unauthorized access to SERVIS, they could be. Then those corrupted results could be loaded onto the county’s servers, overwriting the original data and no one would ever know.

    IS SERVIS COMPROMISED?

The SERVIS program is internet-connected, uncertified, and accessible by all county clerks, the SOS’s office, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and potentially others such as ERIC, VIP, and “registration agents” according to the BPro contracts.

The public, who has paid for its creation, has no way of knowing whether SERVIS can be trusted since it has never been tested to EAC standards, even though it handles parts of the election that are subject to federal oversight.

    WAS BPRO A TROJAN HORSE?

The SOS’s custom software SERVIS is being used outside state and federal law meant to protect our elections from bad actors.

Facts would suggest that the “gift” of BPro’s TotalVote software could be a Trojan horse that is being used to subvert New Mexico’s elections. And this issue affects more than just New Mexico. The BPro platform is used in at least 15 other states, including Arizona and Nevada – two states that “stopped counting” in the middle of the night and took days to report their election results in 2020, with Arizona repeating the exercise in both the primary and general 2022 elections.

Americans must demand that their election data be held entirely within their counties as the law requires.
