What Shall We Bake Today?

Since this is March, I thought I’d bring a recipe for classic Irish Soda Bread.  I have not attempted this as of writing this open.  If I do before it posts, I’ll update it to let you know the results.

Ingredients

2 cups flour

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons cold butter, cubed

2 large eggs, room temperature, divided use

3/4 cup buttermilk

1/3 cup raisins

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°. Whisk together first 5 ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In another bowl, whisk together 1 egg and buttermilk. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened. Stir in raisins.

Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 6-8 times. Shape into a 6-1/2-in. round loaf; place on a greased baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, make a shallow cross in top of loaf. Whisk remaining egg; brush over top.

Bake until golden brown, 30-35 minutes. Remove from pan to a wire rack. Serve warm.

    I love St. Patrick’s day! For years, I made corned beef and cabbage and such.

    One thing we need to remember about St. Patrick was his holy boldness courage.

    After he was captured and enslaved by the Irish as a young man – he escaped and went back and evangelized that pagan island – !!!

    Years later, the Irish saved civilization on their Island Monasteries…hiding their precious Bible documents from invading moslem hordes during the Dark Ages of the Ottoman Empire.

        every Easter back home, the local bakery made a wonderful raisin bread–slightly sweet but not overwhelmingly so.

    we did lose internet somewhat last evening because the dish was covered–and it was sleeting too hard to go out and clear it. we got about 4 inches of just snow before it started sleeting. it’s still sleeting now, but hubby trekked out and cleared the dish.
    looks like an icy mess out there.

    2. I figured that was what happened….yuck! Sleet always sucks and makes everything more difficult! Another bright, sunny day in NE/Central flyover country….up to 37 now. Had to chase off those 2 nasty black cats again from my garden beds! And time once again to refill feeders….I picked up more suet yesterday.

      Excess deaths have spiked in the aftermath of the vaccination drive in the Philippines with hundreds of thousands of citizens dying unnecessarily and many more injured and maimed, according to prosecutors. The judge said Gates, as the founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is “wanted in connection with hundreds of thousands of deaths, a number which cannot be estimated at present and is certain to increase exponentially in time.”

      The Philippines had already banned Gates from entering the country in 2016, and has asked Interpol to relay the arrest warrant as a “red notice” to other police forces around the world, a request that has so far gone unmet.

      The Heinous Crimes Court in Manila issued the order for the arrest of Gates under article 248 of the revised penal code (RPC), which carries a minimum prison term of 20 years and one day. The state won a court order halting a UNICEF tetanus program that was using tetanus vaccine secretly laced with an abortion drug. Anti-hCG-laced vaccines had also been found in at least four other countries.

      A Gates Foundation spokesperson declined to comment on the arrest warrant on Thursday, telling local radio: “This is a misunderstanding that we are going to have ironed out.”

    2. OK, I can find absolutely NOTHING close to any of our usual sources, even the unusual ones, carrying this story – all somewhat off-the-wall, odd sites but nothing I feel is truly legitimate. I say take extreme caution with spreading this around for the moment. YMMV

    Two Mexican nationals, living in Connecticut, are accused of operating a labor trafficking scheme that brought illegal aliens to the Northeastern United States and forced them to pay sky-high smuggling fees in exchange for fake green cards and Social Security Numbers.

    Mexican nationals Maria Del Carmen Sanchez Potrero, 69, and Apolinar Francisco Paredes Espinoza, 56, were arrested and charged this week for allegedly running a labor trafficking scheme for illegal aliens that ensured they would be smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border and transported to Hartford, Connecticut.

    According to court records, Potrero and Espinoza allegedly would arrange for mostly Mexican illegal aliens to cross the southern border at a fee ranging from $15,000 to $20,000. The fee, 10 victims told federal investigators, would be paid after they arrived in Hartford.

    In a number of instances, victims said they were asked by Potrero and Espinoza to turn over a property deed to them as collateral before departing Mexico for the southern border. After arriving in Hartford, though, Potrero and Espinoza would allegedly require the illegal aliens to pay $30,000 in fees with interest and force them to pay for rent, food, and utility costs while living at the pair’s residence.

    In exchange, Potrero and Espinoza allegedly provided the illegal aliens with fake green cards and Social Security Numbers so they could work illegally in the U.S. Some of the illegal aliens allege they were required to perform house duties at the residence, without pay, in addition to holding their illegal jobs.

    Prosecutors allege that Potrero and Espinoza would threaten illegal aliens they had helped traffick to Hartford if they missed deadlines for fee payments.

    In some instances, Potrero and Espinoza allegedly would threaten to hurt the illegal aliens’ family members back in Mexico or turn them over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency for deportation.

    Potrero, according to prosecutors, even threatened one male illegal alien that she would call local police and claim that he had raped her.

    Potrero and Espinoza are each facing 50 years in prison for human smuggling, labor trafficking, and extortion. Both are being held in federal custody.

    The Daily Wire also published an ad for Jeremy’s Chocolate featuring Boreing and Daily Wire hosts Brett Cooper and Michael Knowles. Several Twitter users were astonished at the speed with which The Daily Wire was able to launch Jeremy’s Chocolate.

    “That was fast,” journalist and podcaster Tim Pool tweeted.

    One user imagined a conversation between Boreing and a company investor:

    But Boreing confirmed that he worked through the night Thursday to get the product off the ground. “We did not know,” he tweeted. “We just stayed up all night for the love of the game. And the country. And chocolate. ihatehersheys.com.”

    Another tweet from a Daily Wire producer, retweeted by Boreing, confirmed what he said. “Not only fast we were rewarded with mad scientists bbq for an 8 hr turn around on the production of the ad!” Kevin Burnes tweeted.

    The Daily Wire has built a reputation for big responses to woke corporations and institutions. In January 2021, the company signed Gina Carano to produce and star in “Terror on the Prairie” after she was fired from Disney.

    In March 2022, the company launched Jeremy’s Razors — which sold 100,000 subscriptions in its first year — after Harry’s Razors pulled its ads from The Daily Wire, citing “values misalignment.” And, in the same month, The Daily Wire announced a $100 million investment into kids’ entertainment after leaked videos from inside Disney revealed a producer bragging about their “not-so-secret” gay agenda.

    A few years ago, A Second Enlightenment was heralded. It was based on realizations on the limitations of knowledge due to fallacies and foibles of reasoning and was that being considered as evidence that, along with increases in the faults of human cognition due to how we are hard-wired. Here’s a good essay by a then-student at the time (From 2012: Skepticism And The Second Enlightenment, Nature.com).

    However, the pathway toward knowledge via science was becoming increasingly obscured. Schools have begun teaching that science is a comparison of explanations of the data, which in philosophical terms is positivism, rather than Popperian falsification and hypothesis testing. Challenging cherished (i.e., most profitable) scientific or medical consensus – even with rigorous data – has become taboo.

    From where I sit, this philosopher of science is witnessing nothing less than the second enlightenment. I say this is as an active participant but also as an observer: the downfall of Fauci, the discrediting and downfall of the “public health authorities”, the public’s increasing awareness of the massive cost of entrusting elite “scientists” with their health and public safety is leading us inexorably to a new bright day in which citizen scientists contribute in a truly meaningful way toward understanding the fundamentals and the complexities of reality.

    Not because they get to… but rather, because they must.

    The reluctance of the public to trust centralized scientific authority is well-placed, appropriate, and long overdue, but it came at nearly an unacceptably high price. The factors are now in place for Enlightenment 2.0, which will end The Crisis of Meaning for many, and cause many to discover that they can engage in asking questions – and getting answers – previously only addressable by the scientific elite. I see the following important contributing factors in place, and at play, right now, in our time:

    1. Far less reliance on trust in authority as a basis for assessment of the value of an idea, thought, hypothesis, or line of evidence.
    2. An increased emphasis on the value of generating knowledge or the sake of knowledge.
    3. A hardline taboo against science conducted with direct or indirect conflicts of interest involving massive profits.
    4. Far more decentralization of the funding and conduct of important research, especially research on the factors that are harming and killing people, animals, and productive activities like learning, healthy socialization, agriculture, and community dynamics.
    5. Decentralization of higher learning.
    6. Far more participation by the public in the consideration of, interpretation of, and evaluation of the contributions of specific scientific studies……(7-12)

    Number 4 is why I say the public MUST engage in the interpretation of science. Number 11 is the means by which this can be made eternally possible.

    Cincinnati fire crews are on the scene of a large fire on Arlington Street off of Spring Grove Avenue. First responders tell WLWT that the fire is coming from the Reliable Castings building. Officials confirmed to WLWT that it is a six-alarm fire.

    We’re almost certainly going to learn nothing else about this fire, at least nothing pertinent. That seems to be standard operating procedure for the previous three suspicious fires in the state.

    On today’s episode of The JD Rucker Show, I talked about this fire and three possible reasons they seem to all be happening in Ohio at the same time. The first option is that it’s all a coincidence, which I clearly do not believe. Option two is that it’s arson of some sort, perhaps even with multiple players or copycats. The third option, that I detailed during the show, is that this is part of a plot by the globalist elite cabal to get different chemicals into the air at around the same time to create some destructive chemical cocktail.

    I have no evidence of this. It’s all just a hunch.
